MariPOV:
How can bathrooms be this disgusting?!
I scrub my hand clean before using a paper towel to open the door. I sigh and readjust my skirt.
I turn around the corner back to the car. The group of teenagers stand around the front of the store.
"Was that your boyfriend?"
I turn around to face the boy from the store.
I swallow my tongue. The english language begins to clean itself from my mind.
"If he isn't, can I have you number, or snap or something?" He extends his phone towards me.
"Uh…" I try to build a sentence. The girls behind him giggle.
AdrienPOV:
I watch Mari from the car. I clench my jaw before trying to relax. I trust Marinette. Andrea sits in the front seat doing her makeup.
The door opens and Marinette slips in.
"Adrien comment dit vous copain en anglais?" She looks panicked.
"Boyfriend." I stare at her amused.
"Ok ok, I'll be right back again. In a second. Just wait." Marinette shuffles out. I hear her muttering the word under her breath before running back to the guy. I smile. I can't hear her but I know what she's saying. I watch her wave bye. Andrea starts up the car.
Marinette saunters back and slips into the car next to me.
I watch her intently as she draws the seatbelt across her body. Jake sends the drink back her way and Mari takes another sip. The car wheels begin to turn and Mari leans against the window.
Andrea and Jake sit next to me as Mari and I set up the beach umbrella. Andrea has already begun tanning. I hold up the umbrella Marinette is struggling with.
"Thanks," She stakes the umbrella into the ground before opening it.
I lay down a towel for us and we both sit down.
"What a great idea Mari, today is a great day for beach photos." Andrea smiles.
Marinette nods and rubs some sunscreen on her arms and then uses the excess on mine. She rubs it in gently before tying her hair up into a loose ponytail.
"Je veux nager." Mari turns to all of us.
The water is tolerable, but still slightly cool. I wince as I walk in deeper. Marinette and Jake are already much much deeper. Andrea stays with me.
"I was never really a fan of the ocean," She smiles friendly.
"Me neither." I smile back.
"My brother seems to have taken a liking to Mari." Andrea crosses her arms over her chest. I can't tell if she meant it as a jab to me or if she was just teasing her brother. I shrug it off deciding it would be better just to leave it. Although she is telling the truth, I can't help but see a new intention behind her words.
I watch Mari splash Jake. She giggles and my heart aches for a moment.
I wade farther into the water, leaving Andrea by herself. Marinette hears me coming and turns around. Her eyes meet mine.
"Finally decided to join us?" She teases.
"It's so cold." I grin at her.
"Huh," Jake shrugs. Mari dunks her head underwater. I watch as she swims beneath the surface. She comes up for a breath. He wet hair curls in loose spirals on her face. The thin strands frame her face and dangle beneath her head.
She takes my hand. "Smile for the cameras."
I stare at her for a moment before I see the paparazzi. Andrea has finally caught up, she looks fairly annoyed, but Marinette seems to be having a good time. She poses with Jake. Andrea smiles at Mari's optimism before deciding to throw the cameras a bone.
"Come here," Mari turns to me, still with her smile. She places a hand on my cheek and guides my lips to hers for a quick peck. My face flushes red. She laughs and leans into my ear.
"Will that...satisfy your dad?" She whispers.
"Uh-huh," I nod.
"Guys aren't you cold?" Andrea shivers. "Besides there are better places for pictures than in the water."
MariPOV:
I lie on the towel soaking up the sun.
"Thanks for bringing me to the beach," I mumble to Adrien, who is reading next to me.
He sets his book down before lying down next to me.
"I'm really glad you came with me." He grins and rolls onto his back. I stare at his side profile. Modelesque.
"Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I have to go get ready for the party. You guys mind if we leave?" Andrea stands up and brushes the sand off her legs.
"Of course. I'll help pack up the car." I rise to my feet.
I sit up and roll my towel up. Adrien helps me fold up the umbrella.
"I'll take it to the car." He takes it from me. I nod and continue packing the towels into our tote bag.
"Mari I don't mean to alarm you but," Andrea nods her head at the car.
I turn to look and catch the sight of a girl about my age talking to Adrien. I'm about to shrug it off but I realize I can't. I shouldn't. I watch as Adrien smiles at something she says. I stare for another moment.
"Are you going to do something?" Andrea raises an eyebrow.
"I- uh no. It's okay." I shrug. I watch Adrien for a moment longer. Something within me doesn't sit right, watching him with another girl and all. I mentally smack myself. I remember that Adrien has every right to talk to whoever he wants. So be it. If he finds another girl then I'll be free to go home to Chat, and my relationship won't feel the repercussions it does now.
"He seems to be getting quite friendly with her." Andrea picks up a bag.
"Don't mind her Mari." Jake takes the bag I'm carrying. I chuckle and Andrea joins me by my side.
"I like you Marinette. You're very, easy going." Andrea smiles and walks onwards. I think for a moment before following her.
I sit in the car next to Adrien. He seems content. I feel happy for him. If he's found a lovely girl for himself. I stare out the window, somehow unable to do anything else. Even though I've forced the ideas of happiness into my mind, I feel, jealous?
Is that what I feel?
Andrea and I meet eyes in the mirror.
I smile awkwardly trying to hide my confusion.
"Marinette do you get sea sick?" Andrea asks.
"I, don't know." I admit.
"Maybe you should take a ginger pill, the party won't be enjoyable if you're throwing up all night." Jake chimes in.
"What do you mean." I perk up.
"The party is on a yacht." Adrien finally says something.
"Oh." I turn back to the window.
We arrive at Andrea's in silence. I help unpack the car before thanking Andrea and Jake. I wave as they go get ready for the party.
"Are you alright?" Adrien appears in my peripheral vision. I turn away from him.
"Yes, yes of course I am." I lie. "We should go get ready."
We walk across the beautifully decorated grounds until we get to the garage. I climb up the stairs after Adrien. We get ready in a stale silence.
I wait for Adrien, kicking my legs back and forth over the pool. I sit on the tall ledge where the waterfall fountain flows gently down into the water. My hair is tucked back and my makeup is done. My shoes rest at my side.
"You're ready?"
I turn around to Adrien. His hair is roughly gelled back. Very few curls hang in front of his forehead. I smile.
"Yes."
He stares at me happily.
"Did you make it?" He extends a hand to help me stand up.
"Kind of?" I shrug.
"How so?" He grins.
"I bought the dress and sewed on the skirt and bandeau." I explain. Adrien tucks my baby hairs away. I slide my heels on.
"Do you know if Andrea is ready?" I ask Adrien as I fix the collar on Adrien's shirt.
"Just about." He nods.
"Perfect."
I toss my bag into the limo and crawl in after Adrien. It's fairly crowded.
"These are some of Andrea's friends." Adrien says to me. He doesn't have to lean very close he's practically right up against me.
"Maybe she should've ordered a party bus." I joke.
I scooch closer to Adrien and away from the drunk teen next to me.
"Adrien I don't feel like this is the right place for me." I lean away from the girls beside me.
"I'll introduce you to them when we get to the party." Adrien says louder over the music. I don't know if he heard what I said or not. I just nod. The boy sitting across from me seems pretty wasted.
I thought we were going to a party. It seems like they've already been to one.
I try to find a comfortable way to sit on the cushioned bench seat.
Andrea is sitting next to two girls, they all seem to be talking about something exciting. I don't quite understand what they're saying. A couple of the other guests are staring at me. I guess it's because they never met or seen me. I smile politely. It feels like the limo has been moving forever and I'm starting to sweat a bit.
"Have a drink." A girl passes me a bottle of vodka.
"I, um, not old enough." I say in english.
"Neither am I." She laughs and holds the bottle out to me.
I shake my head.
"Come on." She smirks. I turn to Adrien who is busy talking to the boy next to him. I tug on his sleeve. He turns to me, still with a smile on his face.
"Why does she keep giving me the bottle?" I ask him.
He smiles again before saying, "She wants you to have a drink."
"I know, but I already told her I'm under age." I stare at him.
"I don't think she cares." He chuckles.
"Can you tell her I don't want a drink?" I ask Adrien.
"Of course." He proceeds to speak to her. The conversation goes on for longer than I'd expect. I watch Adriens bright eyes as he talks to her. The car comes to a stop before they can finish their conversation.
People start cycling out, crawling over each other.
Once the car is pretty empty Adrien takes my hand and leads me out. We're at a building.
"This is the boat club. The yacht is around here." He pulls me to where the rest of the teenagers are going.
One of them says something to Adrien.
"This is Marinette." He introduces me.
"I'm Charles." He stretches a hand out. I take it.
Adrien wraps a hand around my waist.
"Hello." I smile.
I don't understand what Charles says next, but I understand the word French.
"Yes." Adrien smiles. He says something else before introducing me around the group. Eventually we shuffle onto a yacht.
AdrienPOV:
Even though Mari doesn't speak English very well, she's managed to make friends with almost everyone. I watch her dance in the middle of the floor.
I rise up off my seat and join her on the floor. She smiles when she sees me and grabs my hand. She spins herself around still holding my hands. I chuckle at her and spin her again. She lets go off my hands and places them on my shoulder.
"Danse avec moi!" She commands. He ponytail whips back and forth. She moves swiftly and elegantly. The way she moves is enticing. I gently rest my hands on her hips while she sways back and forth.
The people around us dance to the music.
I stay there with her until the song slows to an end.
"It's hot in here. Mind if we step outside?" Marinette wipes a bead of sweat from her forehead.
"Of course." I follow her out to the bow of the boat.
The wind passes through Mari's hair. She fans herself with her hand.
"The next song just started." Marinette looks back to where we came from.
"You're still flushed, why don't you just dance out here." I laugh.
"Fine but only if you dance with me, dancing alone is sad." She smirks.
"Anything for you." I take her hand. Marinette places her hands on my shoulders. I smile down at her.
"Don't be a stranger." She grins and steps closer to me. The song is most definitely not a slow song but we both move like it is. Her eyes are locked with mine.
"A-Adrien." She whispers under her breath. I don't say anything. I don't know what to say. It's been so hard to keep quiet. Everytime I look at her I just want to tell her I love her. She looks so beautiful. I'm scared if I open my mouth I'll say something she doesn't want to hear from me. I step closer to her. I wonder if she's been flirting with me, or if she's just being nice. And if she was flirting with me, how would I feel. I suppose I couldn't be mad. After all I roped her into this.
Marinette's hands squeeze my shoulders slightly. Her lips part like she's about to say something. Her eyes widen before she leans towards me.
I take a deep breath trying to hold back.
"Adrien I-" She seems like she's trying to find the right words.
"I'm sorry." I say before bridging the gap in between our lips.
MariPOV:
His lips are on mine.
My body freezes and I tense. Every inch of me is conflicted.
DO I PUSH HIM OFF?
This feels so wrong, but perfectly right.
I fight myself. I have to push him away, he's not Chat.
But something about this is familiar and fulfilling.
Maybe it's the fact that I used to have the most massive crush on Adrien, but I pull him closer.
My hand finds his cheek and my lips think on their own. My body presses against his. His lips kiss my neck. I roll my head back in pleasure.
"Adrien." I speak.
He steps back from me and looks me in the eye.
His eyes remind me of Chat. I let go of him and stumble backwards. My eyes well with tears.
HOW COULD I?
My cheeks feel hot and I can't speak. Adrien looks at me blankly.
"My boyfriend…" I stare at the ground.
Adrien suddenly comes to life again.
"Mari I-"
"No stop, I can't do this anymore. It's not fair to me or him." I put my hand out to stop him from stepping towards me.
"Mari please don't cry." He comes towards me anyways.
I feel angry, for the first time I feel angry at Adrien.
"You know I have a boyfriend, why did you-" I turn my head away from him.
AdrienPOV:
My heart sinks.
Why did I think it was a good idea?
"I'm so sorry, please don't be upset." I stutter.
"Upset! I'm more than upset!" Her hands curl into fists. "I did you a favor. And now-"
"Mari stop please!" I beg.
"Why'd you have to ruin it!"
"Marinette I need to-"
"Oh god who am I kidding, I'm at fault too." Tears flow down her face.
"I shouldn't have said yes, knowing how strongly I used to feel about you."
"M-"
Her tears turn into sobs.
"H-how could I?" She weeps. "He's going to break up with me!"
"No he won't." I hold her waist.
She stops crying for a moment.
"What." She wipes her eyes.
"He won't break up with you." I shake my head.
"What are you? Psychic now?!" She says through clenched teeth. I can't stand her feelings towards me. I can't see her upset like this.
"Plagg claws out."
