Chapter Twenty-Three:
"Do we have to dance?" Maddie groaned looking at Alec.
He had on black fitted trousers, a white buttoned up crisp shirt and added a red bow tie. Maddie had never seen him wear anything other then the black cloak he always wore. Maddie herself had been given a light grey, she had grinned when seeing Felix had one too. Her and Felix would parade around in them, much to Alec snarls at them. Maddie and Felix had become fast friends, enjoying the modern world together.
"No, but I would like to."
Maddie sighed. She was a terrible dancer and she knew without a doubt she would embarrass herself.
"Madeline, where are your thoughts?" Alec asked her, gliding over to her, putting on her heels for her.
"I am not a good dancer."
"This does not surprise me." Alec chuckled.
"The last time I danced I had squashed the poor guy's feet."
"I think I can handle that." Alec mused at her.
Maddie shook her head, muttering she had warned him. as they entered the throne room, Maddie could see there were a lot more vampires then she had originally thought there to be.
"There are more, this is just shy of half, my love." Alec answered the question Maddie was just about to ask. She looked at him, clutching onto his hand, she heard him chuckle.
"You are ok."
"There is a lot of…emotions." Maddie said, trying to focus herself but failing.
Alec cupped her face, kissing her lips and then pulling away.
"Just focus on mine. Do you think you can do that?" he asked.
"I can try." Maddie answered, nodding her head. Alec had been training her with her gift. Trying to get her to focus on just one emotion and not suffocate with them. Felix, Demetri, Markus and even Jane had agreed to help. She could feel Jane's dislike for her. she had not shared that with Alec, knowing it would cause a rift between the twins.
"May I?" Alec asked for her hand before twirling her around to the music. Maddie furrowed her brow's trying to concentrate on her feet.
"Is there something more interesting down there?" Alec teased.
"I…..am…concentrating." Maddie replied through gritted teeth. Alec chuckled at her, twirling her and bringing her body closer to his.
"Master Alec. May I be introduced?"
"Master Alec…" Maddie snorted under her breath. She could feel Alec's own amusement at her. she glanced up, coming face to face with the vampire who had attacked her when she was human.
Maddie's hand had tightened her hold and Alec, had an arm wrapped around her waist. His eyes narrowed at why his mate had suddenly displayed fear and remember she had met this vampire once when he had tried to attack her.
"Madeline, this is Santiago."
"Hello." Maddie gave a nod of her head, watching his every move. Santiago bowed his head to her.
"My apologies for our first meeting. I do hope you would change your opinion of me over time." Santiago had vanished into he crowd of vampires. Maddie had felt he meant the words he spoke. She looked up at Alec who watched her carefully.
"Did I do something wrong?" she asked hesitantly.
"I would advise not to show fear. You are a newborn and you are my mate. Some may wish to harm you in order to harm me." Alec spoke. Maddie's eyes glanced around, she noticed a few vampires had turned to watch her, access her. She moved her eyes to that of Felix, feeling herself relax at seeing someone who didn't wish her harm. She focused on his emotions and found herself smiling.
"Are you not focusing on my emotions, my love?" Alec asked. she heard the sharp undertone.
"Sorry, I just needed someone besides you to focus on. Felix said I can spy on his emotions anytime." Maddie grinned.
Felix had taken her under his wing, he had said she reminded him of someone he knew long ago.
"Maddie, may I have this dance?" a silky voice asked.
Maddie scowled to the voice.
"Why does no one believe me when I say I am a terrible dancer?"
"I do not mind."
Maddie had been spun into Demetri's arms, she glared at him. feeling his amusement.
"Why are you so amused for?" she saw his brow rise before a smirk fell on his lips.
"Well, you my dear are a breath of fresh air. I also believe Alec should share you….I mean for a dance." Demetri amended, seeing Maddie's face morph into disgust.
"You are doing this to get a rise from him." Maddie accused.
Demetri shrugged his shoulder's smile on his face.
"If I am?"
"You shouldn't. That isn't very kind."
"You have much to learn about our world. I for one am very excited to watch how you handle it."
Maddie frowned, not liking what he was getting at. She found herself spun into the arms of Felix.
"He means no harm. Demetri likes you. He would not harm you." Felix assured her. Maddie cocked her head to the side.
"Why does he want to annoy Alec?" She asked. Felix smiled.
"We all want to annoy Alec, before you it was hard to get more then a brow raise. Now we get death glares and it is very amusing." Felix laughed, spinning Maddie around to see Alec's lip curled up into a snarl. Maddie smiled at Felix.
"You do remember it is me who has to deal with it."
"But you are much stronger than you look. Believe me, I think Alec fears you."
Maddie laughed, before feeling the strong fingers her body melted into.
"Can I have you back now?" Alec asked.
"I don't know, you force me to come and mingle, now I am mingling." Maddie replied.
"Do you not miss me?" Alec asked, lifting her fingers to his lips and brushing them lightly.
"Yes." Maddie answered, feeling her body move closer to Alec's. Her eyes locking with his. Alec had pulled them out the throne room and into the abandon hall, smashing his lips to hers. Maddie found her hands clawing to bring him closer to her. Alec's lips moving from her mouth, trailing kisses down her neck. Maddie moaned.
Alec pulled away, forcing himself to stop.
"I must apologize."
"Why?" Maddie whined.
"I would rather us be in our room and not in a hallway." Alec answered. His eyes burning with need. Maddie grinned wickedly at him.
"Can we not go to our room?"

Maddie felt Alec's fingers trace patterns on her bare back. She smiled, feeling the afterglow so many people had told her happened after sex. Now she understood. Alec had been gentle the first time, wanting to know which parts would cause her sweet moans. The second time he could not control himself any longer, he had bitten, leaving a few marks of his own on her delicate skin. When he had felt her own teeth bite him back, it had pushed him over the edge.
"I think we need a new bed." Maddie commented, feeling a laugh leave her.
"I would agree with you." Alec kissed the top of her head.
"Were you jealous?" Maddie asked, leaning up to look him in the eyes. Alec sighed.
"Yes. I do not like how you smile with Felix. It is a different smile then what I get." He answered her truthfully. Maddie pondered on his words. Her heart melting.
"It would be different….." Maddie felt Alec's hurt, he masked it from her, and she reached up and brush his hair from his forehead. He leaned into her touch and she smiled.
"Felix is more like family, I guess. Like you and Jane. I know Felix and I aren't related but it feels like we are. I just see him as a brother. You on the other hand, get the sooky Maddie. The Maddie that misses you even if you are gone for a few minutes. Your touch, I know it instantly. Your voice, it is the only voice I would pick out anywhere. I love you, more than words can say."
Maddie furrowed her brow and pushed out the love she felt so Alec would understand. Alec's eyes widened before his lips crashed onto hers. This kiss was one that had both their souls joining. Maddie could feel a bond snap into place, one that tied her to Alec forever.
