The broken glass was gone. The house was spotless, awaiting your arrival.
I looked awful. You looked exhausted. We were both in old clothes and borderline unclean. Your bag was hastily stuffed. The air was still tense on the doorstep and we didn't say a word until each other until later that night, daring to seek each other's hands under the covers.
'I'm so sorry,' I had said.
You said nothing and then, 'goodnight.' I squeezed your hand and echoed your words, turning off the light. There was still a lot to be said, but it didn't matter for now.
