Levi stared at Marlo for a moment. Marlo gulped nervously.

"No," said Levi. Marlo looked like he was going to protest when Levi continued, "I don't know if you have the guts to turn the whole society into your enemy."

He turned to Sasha and Connie.

"Take them and release them when you get far enough."

Just then Jean spoke up.

"Let me do it, Captain."

Lyla tilted her head. Levi stared at him blankly, then, nodded his head.

"You think he's got something, Captain?" Lyla asked.

"Perhaps. He may be foolish at times but he's not a total idiot," replied Levi.

...

...

Lyla was right when she guessed whether Jean had something for he came back with the two MPs. He pulled a little stunt of his and proved that Marlo and Hitch were actually ready to help them out. Truthfully said, Lyla was a little bit surprised about Hitch. Marlo, he was a lot like Eren so there was no surprise there but Hitch? To Lyla she looked like a girl who would go the easy way. But then she saw how the two interacted and understood. Maybe she too was once a soldier who wanted to change the world. To make it a better place. But she couldn't do it and gave up. Seeing Marlo trying to do what she tried to do might have ticked something within her. Really Lyla didn't know for sure because after all, she wasn't Hitch.

Levi and his squad followed the two MPs until they found a post where the guard was loose.

"It's there." Marlo turned to Levi. Levi nodded his head and said,

"You two should return before you're missed."

The two saluted and went away.

"So, what's the plan Captain?" asked Lyla. Levi seemed to contemplate for a moment.

"We'll just smash through with the wagon."

Lyla huffed out a laugh but stopped when she saw Levi's serious face.

"Wait, you're not serious, are you sir?"

"Can you tell me, in what part did I seem like joking?" said Levi with a blank face. Lyla dropped her jaw.

"It would look threatening if you put Sasha in the front," stated Levi matter-of-factly.

"In what sense do you think like that Captain? Please elaborate."

"Well, she looks like a rabid animal than a human sometimes," said Levi. He glanced at Lyla who continued to stare at him in disbelief. Levi smirked.

"I followed your crazy idea. It wouldn't be a bad idea to follow mine."

"I thought you were more like the cold, calculating style, sir."

"I thought so too. Perhaps you're rubbing off on me."

The whole squad listened as Levi explained the plan. This time Mikasa said,

"Is this Lyla's idea?"

Mikasa didn't want to call her sister's plan 'stupid' twice in a row. Levi stared at her and said,

"No, it's mine."

"Then it's stupid."

"What an objective point of view you got."

"Thank you, sir."

Levi shot her a glare which Mikasa matched with her own. Lyla buried her face in her hand. Mikasa always had this sort of dislike toward the Captain. Did she admit and trust his abilities? Yes. But that didn't mean that they got along well and it was times like this when the tension got thick that Lyla felt highly at unease. Actually, Lyla was surprised that Levi hadn't made any punishment yet. Mikasa tended to act out of order when Eren was involved and does occasionally disobey orders not to say that she outright insulted her superior. Lyla cleared her throat.

"Now Mikasa, it's not that bad. They're only a few MPs so it would be easy to breakthrough."

"Can't we wait till night? When there's less chance in being spotted?" Armin spoke up.

"We don't have time. I think all of us know that Armin," said Levi.

"Well then, let's get on with it. Sasha, you take the reins, Connie and Jean, you get inside the wagon. With enough weight and speed the wagon would be enough to knock out the MPs. The rest of us would wait up over at that hill where we can hide ourselves and secure a good sight," said Lyla. Sasha obeyed as she sat in the driver's seat. Levi boarded on the wagon along with Connie and Armin. Lyla took Mikasa and Armin to the hilltop and hid behind the trees and bushes.

"Let's just hope that Levi doesn't break his neck while jumping off the wagon," muttered Lyla. Mikasa snorted.

"I was hoping the opposite."

"Mikasa!" Lyla whisper-shouted.

"What?"

"It's getting late anyway. Plus, we should get hold of the Squad Leader before it gets dark and they could sneak away."

Lyla just rolled her eyes as she watched the wagon crash through the gate. As she expected, the MPs were knocked off and Levi jumped out of the wagon to get hold of the Squad Leader. Sasha drove the wagon up a little further and got off. She and Connie walked up the hill where Lyla and the rest were hidden.

"Well done Sasha, Connie" said Lyla. They both saluted and sat behind a bush.

Soon enough night fell and only the moon shined through the woods. The whole squad stayed on alert as the time passed. Finally, they heard footsteps approaching. Lyla signaled to the members and readied her gun.

"Relax, it's me."

Levi appeared dragging a man behind him.

'Well, that's an ungraceful way to bring a Squad Leader,' thought Lyla.

"Did you have to drag him by the hair sir?"

At Lyla's question Levi shoved the man against a tree and replied, "He wasn't cooperative."

Levi then pressed the man's arm against his back.

"Now then, let's start talking."

After that, the air was filled with gruesome cries which made Lyla want to cover her ears along with Armin and Mikasa's. They were soldiers, but to her, they were also 15-year-old young teenagers. She wanted to block them out from such noise if possible. But that seemed difficult since they were in the military.

"You better start talking since there're still a lot of bones to break."

The man's nose was already broken and he was missing some teeth.

"You're insane!" He cried out. Levi merely looked down at him emotionlessly, then stated dryly.

"Maybe."

That's when Lyla heard something. It was a voice. A voice like a soothing lullaby, a beckoning. Lyla slowly turned her head. It was far away, the voice. She slowly walked toward it as if entranced. Nobody noticed as she slipped away as they were too concentrated on interrogating the MP. Lyla was a good distance away when Mikasa first noticed.

"Lyla!" Mikasa whisper shouted. Everyone was alerted by Mikasa's alarming tone. Levi whirled around only to find Lyla far in the meadow. And worse, people were sneaking up towards them. Levi gritted his teeth. If he called, they would find out where his squad was. He just hoped that the unanimous figures didn't notice Lyla wandering off as he slowly walked towards Lyla.

In the meantime, Lyla was totally unaware of the people in the meadow as she was to focused on the voice that was singing for her. She could feel it getting stronger, the longing to follow the voice, to lose herself into it. She was almost on the verge of breaking into a run when she bumped into someone.

"Huh?" Lyla turned her head and found a Survey Corps soldier.

"But I thought…?"

The soldier handed over a scroll.

"To Captain Levi from Squad Leader Hange."

Lyla stared down at the scroll when Levi showed up.

"Lyla," he narrowed his eyes at her. "I thought I told you no more weird trances or wandering off."

"I'm sorry sir. It was just that… Never mind. Sir, there's a message from Squad Leader Hange." Lyla handed the scroll to Levi. Levi was still glaring at her but nonetheless took the scroll from her. He read the scroll.

"You can go. Go tell Hange that we got the message and that we found out where Eren and Krista is."

The soldiers left with a salute. Levi pulled Lyla along to where everybody was at. Mikasa was holding the MP in place against a tree.

"We're free of charges."

Everybody's eyes widened.

"But… but how?" Armin stammered out.

"It looks like Erwin pulled off one of his stunts again. He actually overthrew the throne. Anyway, we now know where Eren and Krista is so the next step is to go to the Underground Chapel.

Everybody moved quickly and they set course towards the Underground Chapel. On the way there Lyla fell deep in thought.

"You said that Commander Erwin overthrew the thrown," said Lyla quietly.

"I did," replied Levi.

"Then I presume that we would need a new King… or Queen." Lyla fell silent for a moment. Krista's face flashed across her mind.

"Is it her?"

"I suppose so," was Levi's answer. Lyla let out a long sigh. To be weighed down with such a heavy weight at such a tender age. Lyla wasn't sure if Krista could handle it. Was it the life that Krista wanted? Probably not. But she didn't have a choice. Nobody asked nor cared if Krista was up for the position or not. They needed a new Ruler and Krista happened to fit in certain requirements, like being part of the royal family, even if she was a child born out of wedlock.

"When are you planning to tell her?" asked Lyla.

"After we rescue them," said Levi.

...

...

They went to Mitras to report to Erwin and soon enough he organized a rescue mission and as soon as they arrived at the Underground Chapel Levi explained the plan he devised on the way.

"Finally, we have a plan that actually has some sense in it," huffed out Mikasa. Levi shot her a look but didn't say anything.

They waited in front of the door for Levi's command. Levi looked at Lyla and nodded his head. Lyla broke the door and Connie threw in several barrels of gas. Sasha shot an arrow into each barrel and it exploded, emitting colorful smoke.

The whole squad flew in and Levi started counting off the number of MPs. Lyla glanced around and was surprised that such a large area could be made underground. It was like a vast hall made of crystals, more like the hardened skin of a titan to be precise. Lyla evaded a bullet and surged forward. She sliced through the MP's neck and hid behind a pillar. That's when she spotted Levi single handling Kenny. She saw a blonde woman flying towards him as well. The blonde woman shot a bullet toward Levi but Lyla quickly blocked it with her blade. The bullet changed direction and Lyla changed her broken blade into a new one.

"It's not nice for two people to pick on one at the same time!" she shouted out. The woman shot another bullet that Lyla again evaded. She swiped her sword and the woman blocked it with her gun. That's when another soldier showed up.

"Jesus, is like bullying one soldier your strategy or something?"

"No, it's called being cautious when met with a difficult opponent."

"Happy to know that you think so highly of me," said Lyla with a grin.

"You are the Second in Command of Squad Levi."

Another soldier swooped in, wielding a blade that narrowly missed Lyla's neck. Okay, now three was a little too much.

"Whoo-hoo!"

Hange flew down.

"Need some help?"

"Certainly."

The blonde woman gritted her teeth and flew away. Hange went after her.

"Looks like I met another reckless soul!"

That's when something disastrous happened. The blonde woman shot a grappling hook into Hange's shoulder. She flung Hange right into a pillar

"HANGE!" Lyla shouted out in dread. The MPs used this moment to retreat into a cave and they sealed the entry with an iron net.
