Neeks didn't catch me.
Hell; I didn't even get to the ground.
I know you'll be thinking; "So you're writing from the underworld? That's so cool."
Writing from the underworld would've made a ton more sense.
Still closing my eyes, I felt something catch me mid fall.
'Jesus?' I asked. 'Is that you?'
'Can we please not talk about Jesus in my presence?'
I opened my eyes and saw the last person I ever wanted to see.
'Let me go!' I screamed.
'If you say so.'
Pothos dropped me.
'Hellllllllp!'
And he caught me again.
'Show off.' I muttered.
'One question; why did you want to kill yourself?' Pothos asked.
'I wasn't going to kill myself.' I said. 'Neeks was going to catch me.'
'So you planned your suicide?' Pothos asked.
He cannonballed to the surface. 'I do not need to be a god to see that without my help, you would have been like Helle when Chrysomallos, ah, messed up big time.'
'Well; you're a god now. And I think you know I know nothing about myths.' I sat comfortably on the park bench.
'What's the jig?' I asked. 'Why did you save me? I thought I was annoying, ill mannered, secretive, dishonest, and difficult.'
'I never said dishonest.' Pothos said. 'And this is your fault. Your promise; my punishment.'
'What promise?' I asked.
'You forgot what you made me do?' Pothos asked.
'As far as I can remember; we made you give us info, a prophecy and a hell lot of Hades.'
Pothos sighed, obvi trying to restrain himself. 'You made me promise to help you. Unfortunately; I was not very specific about how much help.'
'You've helped us. We got our shit together because of you. That's enough. Thank you; Next.' I said.
'How I wish it were that easy.' Pothos said.
'It's not?' I asked.
'If things were easy, we would not have gods.' Pothos sat down. 'Mortals would not depend on us and we would still have to un -simplify the world. So it is somewhat good things are not simple.'
'Your point is?'
'My vow was not clear; and I made my help extend all the way to the minute you face Eros in your final battle.'
I frowned. 'Wow.'
'Yes; wow.' Pothos said. 'What was wrong with me?'
'You Chrysomallosed.' I was surprised I pronounced it properly. 'This is terrible.'
'You tell me.'
'Disastrous.'
'Yes.'
'I left my iPod with Neeks.'
That did it.
'Is that what you are so concerned about?' Pothos snapped. 'I will be stuck helping you because of your mistake; and you worry about your iPod?'
So yeah I was shocked. But my expression must've been horrible.
Pothos sat again. 'I'm—'
'Can we fix it?' I asked, quickly recovering from my burn.
'Fix what?' Pothos asked.
'I don't want you here either.' I said. 'Is there a way we can release you from your promise?'
'No.' Pothos replied. 'You cannot release me. Unless... No. It is too dangerous.'
I smirked. 'Oh. I see what's happening here.'
'What?'
'It's all coming together.' I paced around the park bench. 'There's a way you're not telling me; but you don't wanna say it.'
Pothos frowned. 'If I knew a way; I would tell you.'
'Promise on the river Styx?' I asked.
Pothos didn't say nothin'.
'What'd I tell ya?' I asked. 'Spill.'
'The only way for me to be released is if I break the oath.' Pothos said finally.
'Then break it.' I said. 'You don't wanna help us; I don't want you to help us. It makes sense.'
'Your brother knows how risky it is to break oaths on the river Styx.'
It finally hit me.
'Ohhhhh!' I exclaimed. 'Now I get it!'
'What?' Pothos asked, looking kind of tense now.
'I finally see why you're doing this.' I said. 'Why didn't I see it coming?'
'Tell me what you are thinking.' Pothos said.
'You know what it is.' I said.
'No I do not.' Pothos said
'You had the guts to fall in love with my brother?' I asked.
Pothos scowled, trying to hide a zillion emotions at once. 'No.'
'I saw it in your face.' I said. 'As the greats, Nico and Vinz said; am I wrong?'
'You are very wrong.' Pothos said.
'If you tell me I'm wrong, I don't wanna be right.' I said. 'You got a crush on Nico.'
'I do not.' Pothos protested.
'You got a crush on Nico! You got a crush on Nico! You got a crush—'
Pothos shut me right up.
'I am helping you because my master wants me to.' Pothos said. 'That's the truth. I did not want you to find out about it because I was told to keep it a secret.'
I nodded slowly. 'Kay.'
'And you have ruined everything; as you always do.' Pothos said, turning.
I knew he was hiding something. Just didn't know what.
'Just when I thought you'd be nicer to me.' I said.
'It was only a kiss, Tymborchos.' Pothos said. 'That will not change my attitude towards you; you are still the most astounding, ludicrous, and impertinent person I have ever met.'
'I'll pretend I understood what you just said.' I said.
'Your iPod has a dictionary. Look it up.' Pothos said. 'You are also very— pulchritudinous.'
My mouth freaking dropped. 'Say what now?'
Pothos disappeared.
