Chapter 25: … the wrath of a father god I (I forgot to add this ^^;)
Island of Berk
Thunder roared across the sky, lightning threatening to rip apart the veil between the realms of humans and gods.
GRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
A inhuman roar following each lightning strike as they fell on the ocean and around the village.
Berkians scared with the sudden thunderstorm ran panicked to the great Hall for shelter.
"Hurry! Quicken the pace you fat loads!" Yelled Gobber as he guided everyone inside.
Hiccup was helping by carrying the smaller children inside, despite their parents angry shouts of protest. Once he placed them inside he would bolt outside again to get others inside.
Once Gobber thought everyone was inside he went to close the doors but Hiccup beat him to it, pulling the doors closed, while he stayed outside
" 'Iccup! What are you doing lad?!" Gobber got worried, what was his apprentice thinking
"I haven't seen Astrid make it inside" Hiccup said stopping for a brief moment to talk, this made everyone realize that indeed the girl wasn't there and her parents started telling her name "she's probably at the forest and she wouldn't make it alone. I know a place in there, a cave, that she can take shelter until Thor's calm." With that Hiccup closed the door not listening to his mentor's protests and he quickly bolted before a lightning fell exactly in front of the great Hall doors
'alright…. Time to look for Astrid' he thought and ran straight towards the forest knowing exactly where Astrid would've been "I just hope I'm not too late" he said to himself as he ran
Back at the great Hall
Gobber tried to open the door the moment Hiccup closed them, but a strong light and a loud 'BOOM' prevented him from doing so
Stepping back a couple feet, the blacksmith looked at the people, all scared despite being Vikings, and all with reason
"Why is Thor so angry?" A villager asked and another lightning fell soon after
"What did you do?" A wife yelled at her husband when slapping him across the face
"Were we doing something wrong?" Another woman asked as she tried to calm her scared baby
More and more people went on talking and trying to make heads and tails of what was happening
"You all know!" A voice yelled making them all quiet down and everyone looked at who spoke
A old wrinkled man supporting himself on a staff as he walked towards the back of the room, where the chief's table was located with everyone's eyes fixed on him, as he approached it Gobber grunted out of indignation and tiredness
"the gods are angry because of-"
"SHUT IT YOU, OLD FRIGGIN' FART!"
before the elderly man could finish his phrase Gobber snapped making everyone look at him; he could tolerate the man while Stoick was on the island because it was the chief's job to deal with things like that and he would as well in any other occasion but he wasn't having any of it in THIS particular situation.
" 'm ain't havin' ya barkin' today of all days! if this was just another any other day a 'ould' 'ave just let ya do as you please but today isn't that day, now keep yer trap shut or else a'll personally shut it ma 'self" Gobber snapped out of irritation and anger, marching towards the chief's table and pointing his hook at elder man's face "now go back to yer corner Mildew or a'll throw ya there"
out of fear and submission Mildew withdrew himself back to his corner at the hall and was joined by his grandson, who was glaring daggers at Snotlout for the punch he received the other day. everyone was expecting him to say something but Mildew stayed quiet, which surprised everyone not as much as seeing Gobber snaps but was impressive as well
" 'lright…" Gobber started and everyone turned to him " a don't know why the gods are angry but, whatever it is, elder Gothi knows" the villagers started talking among themselves, sure if anyone in the village knows anything about the will of the gods, it was elder Gothi.
then a elderly woman, maybe even older than Mildew, walked pass the villagers and stood at Gobber's side near the table, she picked a pouch from which she poured some sand on the ground and began writing symbols in it. many didn't know but elder Gothi only spoke in a language very few speak as of today, but it is a language that is taught to the lineage of shamans that serve the gods. the villagers were feeling anxious as the elder kept writing and when she stopped they all unconsciously held their breaths as Gobber went on translating
"she said 'I had a wave- *THWACK* ouch! Vision. she said 'I had a vision a few years ago." gobber translated, although a bit wrong, but precisely and went on " in the vision I was at -" Gobber stopped to take a better look at the runes to make sure he was reading it right "ya can't be serious about this *THWACK* ouch! 'lright 'lright ya are"
many began questioning among themselves what had she seen and why she kept this from everyone, but then Gobber went back to translate it
" 'I was at the great halls of Valhalla, directly in front of Odin Allfather himself." this made many assume it was a good thing, but others weren't so optimists about it, with the mad storm outside and all "but when I was trying to understand what was this all about the gates of Valhalla were smashed down by the greatest and terrifying dragon I ever seeing in my whole life." this made many grab their children in fear of what was to come " 'the beast was a walking mountain-' even greater than that? are you kiddin me? *THWACK* ouch! fine, fine, keep that damn staff of 'eyers away from me, a'll stop!"
now everyone was baffled, a dragon bigger than a mountain invaded the home of the gods? what was the meaning of this. Gothi stepped on the sand to clear what was written and then wrote more runes
" ' the beast was a walking mountain, perhaps ever greater than that, and the only thing I was sure of was: that dragon was no Níðhöggr. it was something far more, ancient and not foul nor profane, but somehow, divine and good. but as it marched through the halls several gods and einherjars came to fight it, Thor amongst them."
now things were sound strange but with Thor already smithing the beast it would mean only that their war with the beast was coming to an end, right?. gothi repeated the process again
" ' the beast just barreled through the gods and einherjars like they were nothing and Thor, whose hammer was flying towards the beast, was simply ignored and the beast went ahead towards the Allfather and when it was close to him. the beast impaled it horns at the Allfather's throne and started speaking-' Yes you all heard this right, the dragon was SPEAKING, ' but I could not understand a word of what the scaled monstrosity was saying, but the allfather could. he spoke with the creature in the same language, which I can only speculate to be the language of the gods. and as their conversation went on the beast became more and more restless and is eyes became more and more furious. soon the beast unstruck its horns from the throne and started walking outside like it lost its interest on attacking the gods. but as the beast neared the gates it stopped and turned to the allfather a last time and this time I could understand it's words' "
now the storm was gone but nobody noticed, they were far too absorbed in the vision that was been translated to notice.
"..." Gobber looked at Gothi for confirmation that she actually meant that, when she nod, he resumed the translation "the beast's words were the following: ' You may not care about the humans, Odin, but I Draco Draken-Hearteron, father of all dragon, care about my children and since you don't show a single bit of care for the humans, I hereby declare, with Yggdrasil and the nine realms it holds in it's branches and roots, that from this day onwards the humans are now MY CHILDREN as well and WILL BE UNDER MY PROTECTION EVEN WHEN THE END OF THE TIMES, THE RAGNAROK, COMES TO SWIPE ALL LIFE OF THE REALMS!' with those words the dr- Draco turned his back to Odin allfather once more and spoke yet again with finality in his voice 'I will chose a human as my champion, a human to unite BOTH the humans AND the dragons as one united family against all the threats you and any other unworthy god may throw their way!' with those words my vision ended. at the very day this 'god of the dragons' chose his champion" Gobber finished his translation.
many wished to just laugh of but the look on Gobber's face told them all that this was no joke and they could not even dare treat this lightly, as well as Gothi's stern glare leveled at all the villagers, who thankfully (for them) understood this was strictly no joke. all but one of them took this matter seriously
"Hah! what a joke, a very elaborated joke!" all eyes fell on snotlout, who was on top of a table and was showing a very arrogant and boastful facade "do you ACTUALLY want us to believe in this yak crap?" some nod amongst themselves "how can there be anything that can actually breach through the gates of valhalla. no scratch that, How can there be a dragon that is a god and it actually CARES about a damn thing!"
by now many where rising and taking Snotlout's words in a higher stand (A/N: no pun intended) than Gothi's vision.
"It's a dragon, for Thor's sake! they are just stupid and heartless creatures that kill without reason or care and you said that he chose his champion to 'unify the families' and where has this champion of his been this whole time? hiding like a coward but we, we are vikings and what we do best? I'll tell you what we do best, we-" he reached for his mace and raised above his head with every other viking (that was not Mulchtongue, Gobber, Gothi, Tuffnut, Ruffnut, Boarskin, Rex and Fishlegs) raising their own weapons "SLA-"
*THRUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMM!*
A thunder echoed through the sky as the great halls doors came opening, sunlight passing through it.
this made everyone stop and lower their weapons to look to the doors. there they saw something that was strangely yet good to see; there at the great halls doors was Hiccup carrying an unconscious Astrid in his arms, with her axe at his back and a sword strapped over his shoulder, his face soaked, his hair a mess and his face hardened like he fought a war with the gods themselves and won. this scene was somehow 'talking' by itself, as if answering Snotlout's mocking question from before. 'where had this champion of his been this whole time?' was what Snotlout asked, 'I was right here all along' Hiccup answered without words. and as they were; Snotlout on top of the table, above everyone as some sort of leader to an army, and Hiccup, with the sun shining behind his back coating him in a hero like aura, facing him as a hero ready to take down a tyrant and his goons, a mysterious sword over his shoulder and a viking most trusted axe over his other shoulder. nobody said it but it looked like they were seeing a vision from a far away future, one were many would suffer and their people would know of a better world for them all
but the magic of that moment suddenly dissipated as Hiccup walked inside and placed Astrid on a table, improvising it as a bed.
"She's cold because of the rain, we need to heat her up and fast." Hiccup said in a matter-of-fact tone of voice "bring her as many spare furs you have-"
"Since when do you give us orders?!" Mildew yelled from his corner and this made a small green light shine in most everyone's eyes.
but before a word could be said
"SILENCE" Hiccup yelled to the top of his lungs (and that shout could've been heard all the way across to berserker and outcast Islands) (A/N: damn… where did this kiddo learn to shout like that?)
before anyone could understand what just happened, Hiccup marched to Mildew and pulled both the sword and axe from his back and used both to impale the walls around Mildew, who fell on the ground scared by the sudden aggressive behaviour
"I can order you ALL around because I'm the next in line to be chief, but I don't give a damn to it. but as of right now, I am acting as an ACTUAL chief since one of our own is sick. Now you, Mildew, will shut your gods accursed and forsaken mouth or I'll personally throw you at the jail for all your crimes against the tribe, and don't you think for a second that I don't know about them. now shut UP!" Hiccup screamed the last part as he sliced the walls with shear strength and rage as he pulled both weapons from out of it and went back to Astrid
"What are yer maggots waiting for? grab any furs that aren't been used and give it to the girl!" Gobber yelled to snap everyone out of their shock.
and since it was an actual order everyone went and did as Hiccup ordered.
this was just a small chapter but now I'm taking this story back.
FenixX13… logging out….
