POV 1 Yusaku
"I can inform you that I joined a group of duelists SOL has hired to guard the empty are of Link VRAINS.", Futaba said.
"That means you can help us out without reducing the strength of your deck, so it's great news.", Shoichi said, "provided that we can avoid dueling you as well."
"Going for Hanoi first is enough of an excuse.", Futaba said.
"At least it should suffice for the time being.", I said.
"Then, what else is there to prepare for the coming battle?", Yuya asked.
"Since Hanoi has more members and can cover more ground, we probably have to split up as well.", Mayoi noted, "any way to deal with that?"
"Actually, I do have an idea. We could create a program that allows us to teleport to any team member, this would not only allow us to quickly alter routes, but to get a tag partner so we can outnumber Hanoi's duelists despite having the objectively smaller team.", I suggested.
"A great idea, but how can we be sure it works in that area and doesn't backfire?",Shoichi wondered.
"We have to use it there and try out. No way around that, unfortunately.", I answered.
"Yeah, I thought so too...", he sighed.
"But 4 duelists, one of which, despite being the strongest can only aid us in limited circumstances is still a really small team.", Mayoi sighed.
"Yeah, but if they don't find out unintentionally, and are not affiliated with Hanoi, who could we let join?", Yuya replied.
"Maybe we should consider Naoki or Blue Angel.", Mayoi said.
"From what we know about the former's dueling skills, he'd be dead weight and I won't use an unrelated person for that purpose. But since he seemed to be a fan, maybe I could convince him to stay on the sidelines and not cause problems. Apart from telling people.", I pondered.
"Also, Roget specifically said that any suprising new allies won't help us. Isn't there a small chance that either of them are secret members? Not that either one is particularly likely.", Yuya mused, "Or maybe he just wanted to ruin our mood if there were any coincidences in our favor. Geez, I have no idea."
"I think you're missing a candidate in this room.", Futaba pointed out, "We could hand Kusanagi the Subterror deck. We'd have to do some smaller enhancement on each of our decks anyway. If that Ttam teleporter works, he could still work from behind the scenes and join in whenever all other teammembers are busy with a duel of their own."
"I haven't dueled much of my own, so you shouldn't have to much hopes in my skills. However, if the program works, I am on board with the idea.", Shoichi answered, "no harm in an additional duelist."
"Then we have a solution for that, let's start right away!", Mayoi said excitedly.
"No. You should watch the upcoming Charisma Duels SOL is holding.", Futaba said, "It might be the last calm you have before it gets serious. You'll end up with a barely finished programm and unedited decks anyway if they make an attack today. And remember SOL has to have their ways of telling me when Hanoi attacks."
"She's right, your mental state is very important in your upcoming duels.", Kusanagi said.
"Heh, Yugo said something about you acting like the annoying parents he never had.", Yuya said, "but is Kusanagi gonna be able to close down the Café when the duel is going to happen? Are you really going to have the time to work on the teleport programm?"
"I could multitask with a Laptop while we watch.", I suggested, "not the best practice, but I've done it while waiting for news about Hanoi attacks and/or watching them in the past, so recreational purposes should be less distracting. Or we could resort to truancy. Oddly enough, apart from leaving class a few times, my attendance rate at Den Academy hasn't suffered that much by the fight with Hanoi."
"Even without Futaba here, I would have to disagree, Yusaku. I'm gonna put some work before opening up Café Nagi tomorrow if completing it after the duels doesn't suffice. That should honestly be enough. If the destroyed area doesn't make it impossible, a location changer would be in fact among the easiest things to programm", Kusanagi said.
"Or, since we have thursday, maybe we're lucky and Hanoi waits until Saturday and we don't have to worry about it at all.", Yuya joked.
"I think we've discussed everything there is to discuss. Futaba can go to any official duels she has to attend to for the day and before the first of the Charisma Duels start you three should look up online how you can improve your decks for your upcoming duels.", Shoichi said.
So then we started doing exactly that.
As potential improvement, I've expanded my Extra Deck with some much-needed variety, while my main deck was relatively untouched, since I considered ist options sufficient, except for some anti-banishment cards, which all of us could use against Chihiro and Roget, though Mayoi, since her deck revolved around banishment itself, chose a card named Provisional Iron Wall, which would only lock down her opponent.
Yuya and co. chose cards for both their main and Extra Decks, expecially the Extra Deck as their cards originated from a world without Link Summoning.
Mayoi was a bit hesitant at first to choose more cards than the one-sided banishment counters, but then decided, that since we all had to wait for Futaba's approval before ordering anything and she as a professional could easily pick out the best cards among the oversized order list so we all ended up with a much bigger list than we needed.
Then some of the usual practice stuff until the first of the duels was about to begin.
"A grave strike has struck our beautiful Link VRAINS yesterday.", the announcer said in a sombre tone, "but we're not going to be shaken by this! Hanoi will not destroy the joy of dueling-"
"As expected, they're turning this into anti cyberterrorism symbol... *sigh* this is going to be great.", I muttered, thinking about what the Sagess said, about revealing the truth about the outside world.
"Uh, let's not dwell on our all our troubles?", Yugo said, "We're watching this specifically to avoid that."
"-so to showcase that zhese monsters have nothing on us, let's begin our first, celebrational duel, we have Tadakawa and Ashihei Yukawa the duelists TheSimplechemics and his Partner TheSimpleAlchemics. Against the fans Crystal Princess and Green Jackpot!"
TheSimplechemics outfit simply was a labcoat, but with the artworks of cards from the Chemicritter all over it, Alchemics looked... I assume like a modernized Version of the typical Alchemist, but I am not familiar with depictions of those. And he had an aura of what looked like noxious fumes around him.
Crystal Princess was, as the name said, had a dress made out of jewels, while wearing a venecian mask for a Masquerade ball.
Green Jackpot had a green armour resembling… wait is that Naoki Shima under it?
"So, you're thinking the same thing I do?", Mayoi asked.
"He's the guy with the Bomb Spider.", Yugo said, "the silly one. And Yuri tells me like I'm one to talk."
"It clearly wasn't selected too well.", Yusaku said, "It wouldn't be too good for SOL if one of the challengers lost as easily as Naoki did last time against us."
"DUEL... begin!", the announcer yelled.
Double-sized semi-shared field, can attack using partners monsters and summon to Partners Extra Monster zone, and use their cards for costs, combined and double starting Life Points
TheSimpleChemics and TheSimpleAlchemics (8000lp) vs Crystal Princess and Green Jackpot (8000lp)
"My turn, I begin by summoning Lucky Flora Crapsgrass! (ATK: 500)"
Everyone, even the announcer went completely silent, looking very stumped.
"Uh, why is everyone thinking 'you've gotta be kidding me', right now? It's not like they've seen his usual deck that's much different.", Yugo asked.
"I have to admit, I am not familiar with infamous archetypes either.", I said.
"How do I say this? Lucky Flora is known to be the stupidest archetype to exist. Even if there a lot of other weird ones.", Mayoi said.
"Do you plan on embarassing yourself and the audience?", Crystal Princess asked, "or is this about keeping the expectations for the next duels low?"
"I'll resume the grade for later.", TheSimpleChemics noted, "but you will need an exceptional presentation."
"Just you wait for the dice roll! I mean, Coin Toss!", he said and a coin with a 1 and a Kuriboh face appeared, he flicked it into the air and it landed on heads, "I have to do that for every normal summon. And unlike Arcana Force, Lucky Flora & Fauna, just bring you different Advantages!
In this case I get an additional normal summon since I have more in the column, I summon Slotgrove, I got heads, but that effect doesn't matter.
Open yourself circuit of Risk and Favor! The Summoning conditions are two Lucky Flora monsters! I set the conditions with crapsgrass and slotgrove!
LINK SUMMON! Come forth, Lucky Fauna Roulettiger (ATK: 1000 Markers: Maybe Top-left, Top-right, Bottom-left or Bottom-right)."
"So, for one thing, they are better Arcana Forces, but with a much sillier theme, which was controversial since most people wanted retrains.", Mayoi began explaining, "and the concept of variable Link Markers was wasted on them and as far as I remember the only monster with a disadvantage.
And there's another thing that caused people to especially make fun of this one, but Naoki will probably do it at one point."
"For the Fauna's I roll a dice! And, Yeah, a five, so he gets a marker Bottom-left and Bottom-right, also I can revive Slotgrove in Defense Position.
Now I activate Resounding Connection! This turns a Link Monster into a tuner with a Level equal to its Rating plus four.
Then I tune Crapsgrass and Roulettiger! SYNCHRO SUMMON! Lucky& Nordarts! (ATK: 3600)"
"They took the '&' part and made it into a part of the deck?", Yugo said.
"Yeah, that combined with the previous stuff and it being added to the archetypes with too many cards and then 'Internet happening' as I'd like to call it and you get- I'll wait for the announcer."
"Ah, yes, there are many reasons this deck is not particularly liked, but here is the main point. Green Jackpot seems to have an unhealthy desire for controversy.", the announcer commented.
"there are many bad things about the Commons, but not being on the Internet often wasn't one of them.", Yugo said bluntly, "never thought, I'd say that."
"Heh, this deck may be stupid and everyone hates it, but it isn't weak and I'll show you! Nordarts requires me to both roll dice and toss coin when summoned! I got heads and a 3, now I can change a Dice roll result once per turn and attack twice each turn. I set two cards and end my turn.
Mocking me is easy, but defeating me won't be!"
"While I agree with everyone that it could be better used, your courage to play this reviled deck is still admirable.", Alchemic said, "My turn, draw! I begin by activating Alchemic Kettle Chaos Distill, now all of my cards will be banished instead of going to the graveyard, but effects concerning Exile and grave will be one and the same, you see.
I activate Tin Spell Circle, this card allows me to add Alchemy Beast Aretos the Tin to my Hand or summon one with a different name from my deck, but as Long as Kettle is on the field, this dynamic will the reversed. I summon Aretos the Tin. (ATK: 500-1000) This increase stems from his effect wich gives all Alchem Beasts 500 additional ATK for every beast on the field, but this effect only applies if summoned with the specific Spell.
Also, all Alchemic Beasts have an effect that is activated when they banish themselves from the Hand, but those will be explained when they apply."
"Do we talk this much too? That explanation was a bit long for two moves.", Yugo complained.
"That's part of his act, just as GO is a Wrestler, those two are two different kind of teachers, so they will often do explanations, but explaining the whole basis of their archetype is something they only do during big events when the number of first-time Viewers is more likely.", Mayoi explained.
"Then I play Silver Key to summon Alchemy Beast- Moonface the Silver (ATK: 500-1500 Aretos ATK: 1000-1500), if summoned properly, he can reverse the outcome of any battle when I attack, so summoning a strong Monster like this and exceeding nor negating the power-up ability of Aretos might prove insufficient if he survives your turn, then I will conduct the Black Process Negledo, this card allows me to draw a card if I control the Kettle, if I also summoned 2 Alchemy Beasts this turn, I can add one card mentioning Kettle to my hand.
I choose Bronze Compass to summon Ouroboros the Bronze. (ATK: 500-2000 Aretos and Moonface ATK: 1500-2000)"
"Well...", Naoki said, "That's gonna be a lotta damage. And if you can use your partner's monster's from the next turn onward..."
"We will not be using our partner's cards.", TheSimpleChemics said, "not until you're proven yourself."
"Please. Are you preemptively trying to cover-up any mistakes your hubris might cause? This kind of attitude just begs to be punished.", Crystal Princess countered.
"We have pro-duels where I come from, but they usually don't act in these weird roles and, uh, isn't arguing with a teacher usually bad?", Yugo asked.
"I assume Crystal Princess is playing a role of my own, not that I myself would have expected the non-Charisma Duelists to do so.", I said.
"Ah, I see. So, this Naoki dude intentionally went for the joke character.", Yugo concluded.
"Now, while I could revert the outcome of a battle, I choose to maximize damage for the beginning, to keep you on toes. I attack directly with all of my Alchemy Beasts!", Alchemic ordered.
"I use Scrap-Iron Scarecrow on Aretos the Tin! It sets itself again, so my partner can use it next turn." (Green Jackpot and Crystall Princess LP: 8000-6000-4000)
"I set two cards. While it is nice to take care of your partner, your card has only stopped 2000 out of 6000 points of damage, you may want to reconsider your protective options."
"If those two act like teachers -with one of them being the jerky one-, do they duel beginners a lot more than others?", Yugo asked curiously.
"Actually, the indeed do that.", Mayoi answered.
"My turn, draw! I begin by activating Crystal Tree, then I activate Crystal Bond, this card allows me to put Crystal Beast Sapphire Pegasus to my Hand and Diamond Snake into my Spell and trap zone, this also causes my Tree to grow one Crystal Fruit.
But I'll be rather impatient in the harvest, I send Tree to the graveyard and put Crystal Beast Selenite Shark into my Spell and trap zone.
Show yourself, circuit of shimmer and Beauty! The Summoning conditions are two Crystal Beasts, either both as monsters or both as Continous spells.
I set the Link Markers with Selenite Shark and Diamond Snake! LINK SUMMON! Be born, Crystal Beast Opal Centaur (ATK: 2500 Markers: Down, Bottom-right)"
"Oh, that one's interesting, not that the Alchemy Beasts were boring, though you can't really defend yourself with a huge set of traps unless you link them away immediately. And funny how the Body of this horse guy is made out of Crystal.", Yugo commented.
"Actually, that's not even the original purpose of this deck, but I won't spoil that suprise either.", Mayoi said.
"As a crystallized beast left the field, I can Special Summon Shungite Urchin from my Hand, then I Link Summon once more, using Sapphire Pegasus and Shungite Urchin! Come forth, Crystal Beast Howlite Werewolf (ATK: 2100 Markers: Top-left, Right) If I don't have any crystallized beasts, he allows me search a supporing card. I choose Crystal Blessing, putting Shungite Urchin and Sapphire Pegasus back into my spell/trap zone.
But they will leave right away. This time, I summon Crystal Beast Kunzite Giant (ATK: 3000 Markers: Up, Left)
I'm not done, I use Green Jackpot's Limit Reverse, to revive Shungite Urchin for a second time, then I perform an Extra Link, by using it to Link Summon Lodestone Lich!"
"That's possible!? Why hasn't anyone told us this?", Yugo gasped.
"Then to explain, it requires a chain of consecutive co-links, it doesn't matter if it comes from your opponent, so if you take out both of the monsters, you can use monsters with the right up markers.", I said.
"Okay, but why didn't the Sagess ever tell us?", Yugo asked.
"Maybe that part was a rare mistake.", Mayoi said, "or she thought it was unneeded, but since Crystal Beast, not especially over- or underused could perform one so easily it- actually that still counts as mistake. Then again, it's probably not something she can repeat anytime either."
"It is impressive to create an Extra Link, and still have 2 cards remaining in your hand, it is a step into the right direction."
"I enter the Battle Phase, and now Kunzite Giant can either attack your monsters he Points to or at the cost of destroying a crystallized beast in my backrow OR instead of battling make all Beasts immune to effects while they attack. I choose the latter."
"However, I won't permit you to attack with Nordarts, as I activate Fiendish Chain on it. Unlike Scrap-Iron Scarecrow, it stops more than a single attack, assuming the targeted monster doesn't leave the field, but more importantly, it negates all effects your monster had, and an effect only gained upon summoning won't return, unless you destroy this card before it even can resolve.", Chemics countered.
"Before attacking, I use Magic Planter on the remaining Limit Reverse, then in my Battle Phase, I start of by attacking Aretos, with Howlite Werewolf. (TheSimple(Al)Chemics LP: 8000-7900)"
"Oroboros renders them indestructible by both battle and card effects, even when attacked", Alchemics said.
"Then I attack Oroboros with Opal Centaur. (TheSimple(Al)Chemics LP: 7900-7400) I place Crystal Vanguard in my pendulum zone, so you can't target my monsters with card effects anymore and Crystal Keeper now you can't destroy them that way one per turn, then I set a card and end my turn."
"My turn, draw. Neither of your monsters in the Extra Monsters have markers pointing upwards yet, so I commend you for that detail. But in the end, this formation is incredibly fragile, even if Opal Centaur protects what he Points to and Lodestone Lich protects itself.
You shouldn't perform an Extra Link just as a Fashion Statement, you're degrading it that way.
And on the thematical part of your deck, your Avatar costume would match up more with Gem Knights, and internally, Kunzite and Lodestone barely fit the Definition of 'beast'. That would be a C on the grading."
"I'll take that lesson into consideration once you've disassembled my extra Link, after all you have to conduct your grading properly.", Crystal Princess responded calmly.
"I'll let that cockiness slide, since you merely asked for a proper procedure. I start my turn by activating the Field Spell Catalyst field, this allows me to conduct an additional normal summon as long as it's a gemini Monster, it also allows me to summon gemini monsters of any level without a tribute.
I'll explain the third effect once it matters.
But before I summon two gemini monsters, I activate Link Outburst, you now have to choose a Link Monster in the Extra Monster zone, its markers will be increased to eight, then I loose 500 Life Points for each markers that Monster gained."
"He is really showing off, not using one of his partner's zones first, I thought they'd make an exception at least for that .", Yugo commented.
"Actually, he is not. He might waive chances of defeating them, but he wouldn't make intentional mistakes while trying to hold back. In other words, he wants to summon two monsters from the Extra Deck, making this card necessary if he can't Link Summon or defeat one of Princess' monsters.", I said.
"While you aren't showing your full strength yet, I won't hold back yet. I choose Lodestone Lich. (Link 1-8, TheSimple(Al)Chemics LP: 7400-3900)"
"Sheesh, she really has the snobby parts of a princess down.", Yugo muttered.
"However, I will not let this one slide. Just like you, I use Magic Planter on Fiendish Chain, afterwards, I summon the Poly-Chemicritters, Dioxogre and Hydragon, then I activate Tossed Test Tube, this spell's effect allows me to send a gemini Monster from my deck to the GY for each gemini Monster on my field, plus one.
Then I overlay both of my monsters! Essence of water, coal and air, realign your microscopic instances into the liquid of Madness! XYZ SUMMON!
Come forth, Vola-Chemicritter Methydraco! (ATK: 3000)"
"Is that an alcohol reference?", Naoki asked, confusedly.
TheSimpleChemics ignored him and proceeded with his turn: "When Methydraco is Xyz Summoned he can revive any gemini monsters.
I choose Poly-Chemicritter Carmonorcside. Then I activate Double Summon, gaining another additional normal summon, this allows me to turn Carmonorcside into an effect Monster. Also, any gemini Monster can be normal summoned while on the field to gain its effect, but this written down on all of their cards.
At this point, since I just normal summoned a gemini Monster, I detach an Xyz material for Mehtydraco's effect, now Green Jackpot has to choose one of his cards and send it to the GY."
"I won't let you break our Extra Link so easily, so I sacrifice Scrap-Iron Scarecrow I hope you have a goo defense cards."
"That will cost you quite a few points. I use Carmonorcside's effect to revive any gemini with its effect, but halving its own ATK as a cost (ATK: 3000-1500)
My choice is Oxy Ox, he can summon Poly Chemicritter Chlorybdean from my Hand using his effect. And as side effect, every gemini Monster now has the Level of Chlorybdean, which is 8. I overlay all of my gemini monsters once again!
Air and Water that surround us, tenth element of the universe, reconstruct into the invisible destruction! XYZ SUMMON! Come forth, Rank 8, Vola-Chemicritter Sulfurious Acidaemon. (ATK: 3500)
Despite the threatening announcement, this Monster is more of an aide, someone that prepares you tearing your opponent's field apart."
"Kind of like DestrucTalon.", Mayoi commented.
"Yeah, but if their Xyz monsters are this strong and they are holding back...", Yugo noted, "do you think there are other Charisma Duelists fighting in that void? And sorry for bringing it up right now."
"That is a possibility. Maybe we can convince them as well to attack the Knights of Hanoi first too.", I said, but maybe I should change the topic, since this was intented as a brief rest for the real fight, "also, you know, for some reason the announcer has been awfully quiet."
"When Acidaemon is summoned, he allows me to draw a card for every gemini I summoned this turn so far. And in every other turn that he is till on the field, he can repeat it at the cost of an Xyz material. But I can also use the xyz materials, to gain another additional normal summon."
"Seriously, how many cards like that does he have?"
"And remember, viewers at home, this effect is just the beginning, while he intends to punish Crystal Princess for her cockiness, he hasn't announced that he intends to be serious yet!", the announcer said.
"Speak of the devil.", I said.
"Now I use two of Acidaemon's overlay units to summon Carbo Crab to the field and on the field. I use Carbo Crab's effect, milling a gemini and add another to my Hand, I summon the searched Hydron Hawk, and overlay Carbo Crab and Hydron Hawk, into Moly-Chemicritter Dichlormeleon. (ATK: 1500)"
"Why doesn't this one have a chant? Just because it's weaker?", Yugo asked.
"Yes, and also it is a molecule made of only a single element, not multiple different ones.", I explained.
"This card can detach an overlay unit to give a gemini Monster its effect and while it is on the field, you have to attack it before my other monsters.
Then I use the last card in my Hand, Xyz Burst, since with Methydraco, I have an Xyz Monster with a rank over six, all of your spell and trap cards are destroyed."
"And in one instant, all methods of defense, except their monsters ability and raw strength is gone!", the announcer said.
"Step 1: I attack Lodestone Lich with Dichlormeleon. Step 2 and 3, repeat with your other monsters, since he cannot be destroyed while pointing to Kunzite Giant. (Green Jackpot and Crystal Princess LP: 7400-7000-4700-1900) While this does inflict you more damage, it keeps your monsters alive for your Partner to use. I end my turn with that."
"You did that twice in a row, and it's time to prove how wrong you are with that!
My turn, draw! I activate Advance Draw, tributing Nordarts to draw two cards. Then I activate Dicephoon, I roll and depending on the result, I destroy 1 or two spell/trap cards or take 1000 damage. I rolled a five, which means I can destroy Kettle and Catalyst field.
I activate Aurora Draw. Then I activate Power Vacuum! Since I tributed something with 3500 or more ATK, I can summon monsters with a total of less or equal to 3500 ATK Points, And since we share a field I can summon eight Lucky Floras now.
And you can think of what I would summon using those, can't you?"
"Oh, so apparently Naoki can do an Extra Link too. I'm wondering why he always just used a machine deck.", Mayoi noted.
"Or he could have played the machine deck better. Really strange...", I said, but I will not truly consider him an additional ally.
"Unbelievable! It looks like our young challengers are both bringing out an Extra Link to fight against the power of the Charisma Duelists!", the announcer gasped.
"It is commendable that you are able to do this, but I hope you're not doing this just to annoy my partner.", Alchemic said.
"First, all of my summoned monsters, it's Dice Rowan, Black Cherry, Wylottaria, Bingoak, Rafflesia, Solifir, Quodlarch and Sprucekings.
Since they're not normal summoned, they don't gain their effects, but I Link Summon, in the following order: Link 1, Lucky Fauna Lotterier, the Link 2s Black Jaguar, Pokerberus, Jackpossum and Link 1 Bacarat. (ATK: 200, 900, 1100, 1000, 300 and Markers: Down; Up, Right; Left, Right; Left, Up; Down. All respectively)"
"I admit, I have gravely underestimated you up to this moment.", Crystal Princess said.
"Yeah, I didn't think highly of him either.", Yugo said.
"Not even I did think he could actually do that until the very last second.", Mayoi said.
"And technically, despite using what is a gambling deck, the only coin toss that mattered here is the one from this very first Monster. But he did get a Little lucky with Advance Draw.", I noted.
"And now for their Dice Rolls! Okay, so Lotterier gets the effect where he can heal me while Extra Linked, Black Jaguar makes it so that you cannot save yourself from battle destruction, Pokerberus, allows me to shuffle stuff from the GY back to the deck, depending on the number of cards around him, Jackpossum allows me to choose YOUR attack Targets and Bacarat lets me negate one normal summon per turn.
And since TheSimpleChemic somehow neglected to comment on the gambling nature of my archetype, always remember that Lucky Flora & Fauna have almost no disadvantages only something that would be good for a different situation at worst.
Anyway, I use Lotterier's effect to gain 500 Life Points for all of the monsters we have. It's 9, so we gain 4500 (Green Jackpot and Crystal Princess LP: 1900-6400) What's your comment on this?"
"So you know the obvious problems with your deck and don't care? That is, in some ways, even worse than being completely unaware of your weaknesses, or trying and failing to fix or overcome them.", TheSimpleChemics said.
"In the commons we had between zero and very bad teachers, but they were never this harsh on us.", Yugo commented.
"But then why were coin toss and dice roll cards even made if it's bad to use them!?", Naoki said, visibly frustrated with Chemic's unpleasable nature.
"Please, would you justify a crime with the fact that your human body is capable to perform it? The same goes for minor things, like dishonorable fighting tactics."
"I'm not sure if that logic makes sense, even if he added the second part.", Mayoi said, "isn't it just a 'because I said so'?"
"Yeah, and he's not even checking their skills at rhetoric.", I said.
"...was that supposed to be a joke?", Yugo wondered.
"...yes.", I admitted, trying to stay as calm as usual, "back to the duel."
Maybe I shouldn't... no doesn't matter
"As you are all seeing right now, TheSimpleChemic, despite this name, isn't a challenge one can overcome or satisfy easily.", The announcer commented.
"While I am never as harsh as my partner, there is another disadvantage to Gambling decks, as they can ruin your game when you're close to victory as easily as the luckiest draw of your opponent can and even this deck is not completely safe from that."
"*sigh*, you know, maybe this is actually a lesson about not wasting your time appealing to others, but anyway, I set a card and attack Alchemic's protector guy, with Centaur, then I attack Aretos with Howlite Werewolf and then the remaining one with Pokerberus. (Each Alchemy Beast's ATK: 2000- 1500-500 TheSimple(Al)chemics LP: 3900-3400-2800-2700) I end my turn.
And you know, it's kinda strange how you haven't used your second face-down yet.
Maybe you two don't want to go fully serious, but I find it hard to believe that neither I or Crystal Princess didn't do anything that could be countered by it.
Considering what you said about my Scrap-Iron Scarecrow it cannot be too specific of a card."
"Impressive Guesswork. You're right, It was a bluff. So, after I draw, I reveal my second Kettle to you. Then I use Xyz Treasure, drawing a card for each of my Partners XYZ monsters. Then I activate Steel Lamp, Lead Compass and Mercury Hourglass to summon Salamandra the steel, Ekenas the Mercury and leon the Lead. Salamndra destroys one Monster for every GY or banished Alchemy Beast, but if it took out everything the opponent had, Salamandra will be destroyed at the end of my turn. Ekenas lets me draw 2 cards If I have more banished than you and finally Leon the Lead can copy the effects of Alchemy Beasts that are banished or in my GY.
"Hey, that also was an overly lucky draw from your friend just had!", Naoki complained.
"He is a teacher with different methods, not a student.", Chemics said.
"Anyone else thinking he's laying this jerkiness on a little bit too thick? How is he that popular?", Yugo said
"Maybe it feels very satisfying when he loses, and that's why he's watched that often. Also the nice/jerk couple aspect could be contributing here.", Mayoi theorized.
"Ah, yes, I know I would be tempted to watch another duel of him just to see if he gets knocked down.", Yugo said.
"Salamandra, destroys all of Green Jackpot's monsters in the Main Monster Zone, while my other two monsters allow me to draw a grand total of four cards. I destroy the monsters in your Extra Monster zone with Salamandra and Ekenas and attack you directly with Leon (Green Jackpot and Crystal Princess LP: 6400-5400)"
The announcer was about to say something, but Alchemics motioned him to to be silent.
"If you want to enhance the Impact of a moment, wait for this, I activate Quick Xyz to overlay all of my Monsters.
Founders of the Philosopher's Stone, let one of you grace our presence! XYZ SUMMON! Enter the field, Rank 3,Alchemy Beast's Scribe Zosimus! (ATK: 2500)"
"Incredible! It seems our challengers are finally going to see what is merely the beginning of their true power!", the announcer gasped.
"If the mere beginning is so impressive, then I'm starting to believe we got ripped off on Futaba vs GO.", Yugo muttered.
"Please, this announcer is a different one than last time, he obviously just worded himself very badly.", Mayoi said, sounding slightly annoyed
"First, Zosimus gains 500 ATK for everything that is currently banished! (ATK: 2500-11500) Then he banishes all cards in the GY. You shouldn't have forgotten to shuffle cards back into the deck. I attack Crystal Beast Kunzite Giant!"
"I still have a face-down of my own! Joined Links, we can't use this if we have lower Life Points, but it gives our Monster ATK equal to the ATK of the monsters he poins to! (ATK: 3000-5800) Also, Lodestone Lich halves the damage!", Naoki countered. (Green Jackpot & Crystal Princess LP: 5400-2550)
"And Kunzite Giant moves to the Spell and Trap cards zone.", Crystal Princess said.
"Impressive, I'll give you that, you turned a card normally used to create an unstoppable assault into a defensive tool.", Chemic said.
"Not being very familiar with those professional duelists, I don't know whether that was supposed to come across as backhanded
or if it was out of character.", I commented.
"The way I know him, he lied.", Mayoi said, "He does that to see if they're smart enough to see through it, though it's an aspect of him that doesn't often work as intended."
"I enter my Main Phase 2.", Alchemic announced, "I detach an overlay unit of Zosimus and halve my Life Points (TheSimple(Al)chemics LP: 2700-1350)
to use one banished spell card's power. I use Steel Lamp to summon a second Salamandra.
I detached an Alchemy Beast, so there are four banished cards now, which allows Salamandra to destroy everything Crystal Princess has left."
"They still go into the backrow.", Crystal Princess said, unimpressed.
"I use Stopped Process. Since I have no face-down cards, all your Continous Spells are sent to the GY. I set 2 cards. Since Salamandra took out everything you had, he is banished now."
"My turn, draw.", Crystal Princess said, "You think you are teaching us a lesson, by not using your full strength until we've proven ourselves. I'm not here to talk about teaching methods, but what if it is actually your own overconfidence, begging to be punished?"
"Bold to repeat those words, after my brother destroyed two Extra Links in one turn, proving everything I said about your dishonoring of it.", Chemics retorted.
"There is an old proverb, saying that fortune favors the bold. I summon another Crystal Master and Tribute him to add another Crystal Bond to my Hand.
The Monster I add to my backrow this time will be Rainbow Dragon, he Zenith Crystal Beast.
But before you gaze in awe, I banish Zenith, to summon Larimar Dragonfly from my deck and add the original Rainbow Dragon from my Hand.
Now I get to summon another Shungite Urchin. I Link Summon another Howlite Werewolf!
Now I have a total of 7 different Crystal Beasts on my field and/or GY, this means, I can summon this! Beatiful Spectral Dragon, grace us with your divine presence! Come forth, Level 10, Rainbow Dragon!"
"Amazing! What a rare sight to behold!", the announcer cheered.
"But remember, in this turn, he has nothing except a high ATK Count.", Alchemic reminded them.
"Now, I use Howlite Werewulfs effect to put the Chlorybdean he Points to into my spell and trap zone, of Course, Chlorybdean Counts as Crystal Beast now.
I could just take out your Life Points in one go, but that would be too easy, wouldn't it?
I attack Dichlormeleon with Howlite Werewolf! (TheSimple(Al)chemics LP: 1350-650) And then I attack MethyDraco with Rainbow Dragon!"
****ensure there is actually an intentional mistake here, retcon dd reverse
"I use D.D. Reverse. We have more than 5 cards banished, and just took damage, this allows us to destroy all monsters you have."
"W-why would you waste a 4000 ATK Monster like that?! You could have attacked first with him! Wouldn't this have proven what you said earlier, if they got defeated right now?", Naoki demanded, exasperated.
"I deserve a true duel, and I won't stop until I receive it. Your turn, TheSimpleChemics", Crystal Princess said.
"Okay, that's a Little more interesting, than her being like all those snobby rich people from the tops.", Yugo said.
"My turn, draw. I activate Gemini return, this revives 3 gemini monsters in defense Position, but I cannot normal summon or attack this turn. I revive Poly-Chemicritter Nitratiger, Ammoniargus and Auro Chlorgon. I overlay all of them into the Rank 6 Vola-Chemicritter Silver Sulfourthos. (ATK: 2400)
When summoned, I add a card mentioning gemini to my hand. I choose Catalyst Field. Unlike Acidaemon, I don't have to wait, until I can repeat it by detaching overlay Units. And for that, I add Dioxogre to my Hand. I end my turn.", he conducted a normal turn, but he seemed a little shaken.
"No comment on this? It seems his near defeat has sent TheSimpleChemic into a shock! Will they go serious the next turn?", the announcer wondered.
"What a drama queen.", Yugo said, "but that's the point here isn't it? I guess Yuya could do more with his entertainment dueling if it wasn't the default here.
"I'll wait for my partner to confirm or deny that.", Alchemic said.
"Okay, then uh, my turn! I use Black Hole to destroy all monsters. And then I end my turn.", Naoki said.
"I will simply use Tin Spell Circle to summon a second Aretos and attack you directly with his 1000 ATK. (Green Jackpot and Crystal Princess LP: 2250-1250) Then I end my turn."
"I use Aurora Draw. I summon Amethyst Cat (ATK: 1200), but not to the zone Kunzite Giant Points to, then I attack you directly with halved damage!"
"Wait, what would being pointed to by Kunzite Giant have done?", Yugo wondered.
"She could have banished Kunzite Giant regardless of that to double Amethyst Cat's attack points, but if he pointed to her, the battle damage would have been doubled in Addition.", Mayoi explained, "In other words, she's sparing them two times at once, kind of."
"Even I know that is not something that wouldn't look good on a professional duelist. She has punished Chemics for his cockiness, though not by winning against him. Yet.", I said.
(TheSimple(Al)Chemic LP: 650-50)"You, do do you know what you have done!?", TheSimpleChemics asked angrily.
"Ensured that your harsh teacher routine backfired.", Crystal Princess backfired.
"It's understandable for our Champions, but to think the challenger would not use a chance of immediate victory... several times. Is this duel a Farce?", the announcer grumbled.
"Uh, considering the circumstances of this event, maybe you shouldn't have done it.", Naoki said shyly.
"No, this is the perfect moment. In dire times like these, it is expecially important to remember what a true duelist is. Unfortunately someone didn't understand it without two mirrors of his actions.", Crystal Princess explained, "So treat us seriously, even if we're amateurs!"
"Unfortunately, brother, she is correct in her assessment.", Alchemics said.
"Sigh... We prevented the opening act from being a tough one to follow in all the wrong ways...", he grumbled, "but I shouldn't hand out failing grades like cheap candy especially not on myself. I may only have 2 cards right now, but I promise I will make the most of them, and my brother will too!"
"Then it's your turn.", she said, smiling about her success.
"Yup, we got seriously ripped off last time.", Yugo said.
"Grr, I have to admit, that moment turned a bad duel into a good one.", Mayoi said, "not sure what opponents mom is gonna get."
It's kind of sweet that she idolizes her mother like that. Then again, I probably have a screwed judgement for actually three reasons, maybe even more so you're free to disagree heavily with me on that.
"I activate my Catalyst Field and instantly summon Dioxogre and instantly turn it into an effect Monster. You might expect me to just straightaway attack you, but this face-down card could be dangerous, so I will use Catalyst Field effects to banish an effect gemini on my field for one turn to destroy a card you control."
"Then I use the face-down Crystal Raigeki, sacrificing Kunzite to destroy Aretos. Now there won't be any damage this turn.", she countered.
"Then it's Jackpot's turn. But Dioxogre Returns to the field."
"I use Cup of Ace!", he got heads, "I draw two and summon Lucky Flora Bingoak and for my coin toss I got tails, so I can destroy your Dioxogre!"
"While I will tone done my unreasable harshness, my disapproval of gambling cards does not fall under unreasonable. Also, I perform a release escape with the card Burnout, I banish this Dioxogre to summon a second one and Poly-chemicritter Hydragon (DEF: 2800) from my deck.
Should you attack, I could banish it to revive Auro Chlorgon with its effect which can negate any one of your effects before it's even used with Spell Speed 2 , meaning Amethyst Cat will be useless against us."
"Any of you remember Sixth Sense? A Gambling card, that if used in a deck with GY effects and Revival stuff basically had no downsides? 'cause there's one card that would be banned for a somewhat similar reason if there were more people with the guts to play this archetype. In Layman's Terms, this card is gonna make you angry. I only need one Lucky Flora here, so I use Bingoak and Amethyst Cat and summon Lucky Fauna Baccarmadillo. (ATK: 800 Marker: Up, Top-right)
First, I roll the dice, I got a three, so now Baccarmadillo destroys Kettle and both of the Chemicritter.
And then I end my turn and hope Alchemics doesn't draw anything good."
"I have to admit, Auro Chlorgon seemed like just a random throwaway card, but now he might be what prevents our victory. Unless they summon a defeatable monster.", Crystal Princess.
"I was going to say something similar.", Yugo said.
"This is their true power!", the announcer said, "they managed to turn their own near-defeat Situation into dominance! And I remind you, they merely have 50 Life Points left!"
"Heh, and unfortunately, my monsters don't have that much, though neither do Alchemic's", Naoki noted.
"My turn, draw. I normal Summon Ekenas. He could attack directly, but that would not finish this.
I Link Summon using him instead! Master of Quicksilver, that even as a small creature could hold back mighty naval vessels! Take back your original strength by force! LINK SUMMON! Rank 1, Alchemy Beast Ekenas the Thief (ATK: 800 Markers: Up)
As I summoned him to the up marker of Baccarmadillo, and used Ekenas' original Version as material, I take Control of it, place it at his left and redirect his Link Marker there.
I attack with Ekenas (Green Jackpot and Crystal Princess LP: 1250-450) and then-"
"Sorry, but I have this card. Gorz, the Emissary of Darkness, I had nothing on my field and took damage, so I summon him (ATK: 2700) then a token with 800 ATK and DEF in defense mode. Now Auro Chlorgon doesn't seem so scary anymore."
"I thought this was the end, but you managed to suprise me.", Crystal Princess said.
"I admit, I never assumed you would Play a card like this, but now I Link Summon, using both of my monsters treating Baccarmadillo as two materials.", Alchemic said, "Creator of the one Philosopher's Stone, descend onto us! Alchemy Beast's Mage Flamel! (ATK: 2700 Markers: Up, Bottom-left, Bottom-right) Upon his Link Summoning, if an Alchemy Beast was used, I can add a Process card to my Hand, then If I have no Kettle his name becomes it.
I pick White Process Albedo, since I have at least a replacement of Kettle now, I can summon Golden Homunculus from my deck.
He gains 500 ATK Points for everything we have banished." (ATK: 1500-12500)
"Not again...", Naoki whimpered.
"And that's probably not even their last card to gain ATK from a high number of banished cards.", I noted.
"However, since he would one-shot us anyway, there is really no Point in worrying about his ATK increasing. So it won't matter if he gets an actual second Kettle.", Crystal Princess said.
"But there is still the fact that he would one-shot them anyway. At least it's Main Phase 2 now.", Yugo commented.
"Before I forget it, while Flamel Points to Golden Homunculous, my banished cards are immune to your effects, it also has effects concerning the Evolution line of Helios the Primordial Sun, but again those are explained when needed. But I never had to use the in-hand effects of Alchemy Beasts so far.
It's your turn."
"Funny enough, I drew Pot of Desires, banishing 10 cards from my deck face-down to draw 2. I'll have to settle with setting a monster and a card.
But I turn Gorz to attack mode and mutually destroy him and Flamel.
Well... Auro Chlorgon definetly isn't such a big issue anymore, at least for the time being.", Crystal Princess admitted.
"My turn. Since that monster is unlikely to have absurd DEF, I destroy your face-down Monster with Flamel!"
"You managed to destroy my Ruby Carbuncle, but now I activate my Ultimate Crystal Magic. I sent Ruby Carbuncle and 6 other Crystal Beasts to the GY, to Fusion Summon! Come forth, Rainbow Overdragon! (DEF: 0) However, I tribute him to shuffle everything on the field, back into the deck!"
"I set one card. Now there is only one card on the field and nobody has cards in their hands. It will all depend on a single draw.
Green Jackpot, hope that your luck doesn't leave you now!"
"My turn, draw! It very much didn't! I activate Miracle Synchro Link, I pay half of our Life Points! (Green Jackpot and Crystal Princess LP: 450-225)
Then I banish all the material needed for my Ultimate Synchro Monster from my GY! And I summon Level 12 Lucky& Straightill Flush (ATK: 4200)
Now I toss a coin AND Roll a Dice. I got Tails and a Six.
This prevents you from attacking and your monsters from becoming immune to anything. I attack you directly!"
"I use Burnout! I revive Auro Chlorgon, who'll negate your monster's effect before he gets destroyed!", Chemics countered, "Now any regular Alchemy Beast could finish you."
"Ts, I end my turn."
"My turn, I activate Lead Compass, adding Leon the Lead to my Hand as I have no Kettle. I summon it.
A direct attack would be enough, but if you're having any ridiculous last chance counter cards, it would be more likely against battle than effect damage!
I Link Summon Leon the General (ATK: 800 Marker: Up) using my Monster and since he doesn't point anywhere and I lack any Kettle, he can once per turn launch one desperate last strike in the shape of 100 points of damage per banished card. (Green Jackpot and Crystal Princess LP: 225-2200=0)"
WINNER: TheSimpleChemics and TheSimpleAlchemics
"And they won! While this duel had its down, it had a SPECTACULAR Endgame!"
"I know I was the one who called attention to it, but let's not waste time dwelling on what this duel lacked, as that was not my intention.
What we should do is enjoy and give it our all in the upcoming duels!", Crystal Princess said.
"You've managed to teach one of the top 10 Charisma Duelists, one who IS a teacher a lesson. I look forwards to meeting you in a future duel.", TheSimpleChemics said.
"Maybe I'll try something different next time, but I'll change your view on coin tosses and dice rolls!", Naoki said.
"A bold statement. But you could change his view on First Turn Exodia Decks much more easily.", TheSimpleChemics said.
"Don't give him Ideas. Or anyone else in the audience for that matter, hehe.", Chemics said.
"Nah, maybe just some weird column shenanigans.", Naoki said.
"Who of them has a higher chance of a rematch?", Yugo asked.
"Since she is a little bit closer to the style of a Charisma Duelist, Crystal Princess does.", Mayoi said.
"Now, that this duel is finished, let's see who's on next!", the announcer exclaimed.
"Yes, I'm curious about the other Top 10 Charisma Duelists.", I said.
POV 2 Chihiro
After delivering Ai to Hanoi, the next day was quite uneventful, that means, I skipped school for D.E. training and I might not even go there again, unless there is Need to spy on the Yusacrew, but who knows? Around the time some Charisma Dueling event in Link VRAINS started, I decided to go watch it, but some time after the first one, during the second duel, Someone rang at my doorbell.
"It's Naoki I bet.", I thought to myself, as I went to open it. Lo and behold, I was right.
"I'll cut to the chase. You know about Yusaku, but don't use that knowledge about his secret.", he said.
"What.", I said and closed my door. I have no idea how he knew, but if he told Aoi and since she saw me in the duel, so she could have told me.
"Maybe it would be best not to ignore him.", Dusktopia buzzed from my duel disk, looking like a golden 'Ai'
"What, is he gonna do besides ring the doorbell non-stop?", I said
"I command you to follow him and you told me-.", he said.
"Technically it was for unethical means that don't kill, but fine, though can't you get access as to why he knows that? You knew about Yusaku's true identity.", I asked as I did it anyway.
"Not Cool!", he said after I opened the door.
"What are you gonna do if I don't listen?", I asked.
"I'll give that info to someone else who wants to defeat him.", he said.
"And why did you come here?", I asked.
"Aoi told me that you were a Hanoi member. She may have assumed it, but it doesn't matter which of his enemies you belong to."
"Isn't this a suicide threat by proxy, considering how much of a fanboy of him you are?"
"Call it that, if you will."
"What is your answer?", I asked Dusktopia.
"Duel him for it. Since he doesn't seem as irrelevant and stupid as I initially assumed, I want to see myself what he really has in store."
"I shouldn't ask, but even if he agrees what prevents either of us from breaking that bargain?"
"Oh, I'm going to agree, but show me the deck you used to fight Yusaku and defeat him.", Naoki challenged me, "but I warn you, I'm not going to use the deck I used against the teachers."
"So it was you. Are you longing to avenge Playmaker or something, because I just pointed out why you should not agree to this."
"Who knows? Let's simply go into the VRAINS.", he said, with mischivous grin.
POV 3 ?
"So this is the place where I should find her. Finally after so many years..."
POV 4 Severin
"Now it's time to open the gate, grant me an envoy, from a word just like Yuya Sakaki's and an envoy from a world of heroes!"
Yeah, I love unnecessary OC decks and reversing useless archetyes with extensive retcons. Though Lucky Flora & Fauna wasn't too fun to write to say the least, that's why it is considered a bad joke archetye and Naoki outright confirms that he'll use a different deck than Chihiro.
Also, FYI the 'potential' markers would be colored white on a real card.If you're wondering if this will be the last chapter where they watch Charisma Duelists, I don't know yet, but this chapter isn't just filler, I promise you that, everyone who dueled in this chapter will have one other duel. Also, there will only be two more chapters until the 'battle' starts and it may begin on the second of those.
