Chapter 23: The Two Conflicts to Resolute!
"An alternate world? You're not pulling a prank on us, are you...?" Misty asked as the six Trainers were walking along the route to continue making their way towards Vermillion City.
After Ash had gained Charmander as his fifth member of his Pokémon team, the group were continuing their way with Ash marching ahead of the group, acting as if he was the leader. But while they were walking along the path...
"This is no prank... What happened last night... I can definitely be sure that it was all real... The way you guys didn't know me in the other world... And the part where Luna and Yellow didn't exist... I wanted to think that something crazy has happened..." Isamu admitted.
"Sounds like you had quite an adventure in this other world..." Luna commented, earning a small nod from the elder Ketchum brother.
"Come to think of it though, there was something about a book that I had read once back at the library at Pewter City..." Brock stated, catching Isamu's attention.
"What's that?" Isamu questioned, causing the Rock Type user to explain.
"There was a theory once about a time that there was another world, not just the one we're in... and in a different world, different yet similar events occurred... I guess it would be called... an alternative world? Or maybe the multiverse..." Brock explained.
That caught Misty's attention as she frowned, before making a question relating to what could be in the other universes.
"Wait, an alternative world? You mean, like there could be many different versions of us that we don't know about?" Misty asked, causing Yellow to shiver a little.
"I honestly don't like the sound of it... I mean, Luna and I don't even exist in that other world and neither does Isamu, right...? But you two and Ash existed there... along with a girl that we don't know of." Yellow reminded.
"It makes me feel like we're just original characters made for a new game... or a new story..." Luna spoke out, causing the elder Ketchum brother to sweat drop at how much the girls were thinking about this.
Turning his eyes back on the road, the elder Ketchum brother recalled the events that had occurred when he had first met Kaede... who seemed to be the eldest child of the Ketchum family and the sister of Ash.
"Kaede... I wonder if she's doing alright right now..." Isamu thought as he shook his head, pushing those thoughts back. He watched as Ash continued to walk ahead, looking like he didn't care of what the others were saying.
"Ash sure is looking all carefree... I guess having two Pokémon that could've been his partner back at Prof. Oak's lab must've made him quite happy and content. And not only that, he's got five Pokémon in his team right now." Isamu thought as he smiled a little.
"I wonder if the Ash in the other world is like that, too... Well, I guess the other Ash would be... I mean, the way he acted and talk is just like the Ash in front of me right now..." Isamu chuckled to himself as he thought up of what would happen if the two Ash would meet.
As the group were continuing to walk, however...
"Huh?"
Ash suddenly stopped as he felt his foot go through something soft and get stuck. The others got in closer and tried to figure out what happened. While Misty and Brock joined Ash and Pikachu, Isamu, Luna, Yellow and their Pokémon stayed behind as they sense something wrong.
"Ash, what's wrong?"
"Did you step on something, little bro?" Isamu and Misty questioned. But, before Ash could speak...
"AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!"
Suddenly, Misty, Brock, Pikachu and Ash fell down a blanket and branches covering what looked to be a hole. Their sudden fall shocked the remaining trio and Pokémon that stood by.
"Ash!"
"Misty, no!"
"Brock, are you alright?!" The three Trainers gasped as they ran over to see what had happened to their three friends as their Pokémon friends did the same as well.
"What in the world...?" Isamu questioned as he looked down to see the deep hole his little brother and his two companions had fallen into.

[Opening Ends]
"No, not another hole...!" Misty groaned as Brock shook his head, wincing from the fall he had taken with the younger brother and the Water Type user.
"Ow... I landed on my head!" Brock exclaimed while wincing before he and the two got back up.
"You three alright?" Yellow asked as Brock nodded, before he looked around.
"Yeah... but this hole... it must be a prank." Brock guessed, causing Misty to frown at the guess.
"Someone has a bad sense of humor..." Misty commented as Isamu frowned. The last time they had fallen into a pitfall trap, it was caused by Team Rocket, as they were trying to steal Pikachu and possibly their other Pokémon as well.
"Who would play such a rotten trick?" Ash asked, before Luna came up with a good guess.
"Maybe it was Team Rocket? Think about it... We fell into their trap one time before Ash got Charmander." Luna guessed, until Yellow looked up, and widened her eyes. Chuchu, Eevee, Ninetales, and Arcanine did the same before they glared.
"I don't think it was them this time... Look!" Yellow exclaimed, causing the two to look up ahead to see...
"It's a bunch of Squirtle... with sunglasses?" Luna started, before she sweat dropped at the sunglasses the Water Types were wearing.
"Wait... Squirtle!?" Ash exclaimed as he managed to climb out of the hole first, before turning to see that what Luna had said was true. There were five Squirtle all wearing sunglasses... and they didn't seem to be quite the nice types, either.
The five were all smirking and laughing together, as if they had enjoyed seeing Ash, Misty, and Brock fall into the hole.
"What's so funny...!? That wasn't nice at all!" Luna protested, getting annoyed by the expressions they had on their faces. Arcanine and Ninetales glared as well, as they didn't approve this prank.
What if it was Luna that got into the mess? She could've been seriously hurt. And that was something that the two Fire Types themselves that they couldn't accept, whether if it was an accident or not.
The two growled while Chuchu just glared. Eevee did the same while Pikachu gazed at the five Water Types curiously while the younger Ketchum brother was more annoyed like the others should be feeling.
"Dangerous practical jokes are nothing to laugh about!" Ash snapped, as he and the two former Gym Leaders got out of the hole to join their three friends before the younger brother scanned the Water Type with his Pokédex.
"Squirtle, the Tiny Turtle Pokémon. This Pokémon draws its long neck into its shell to launch incredible water attacks with amazing range and accuracy. The blasts can be quite powerful." Ash's Pokédex stated.
Smiling at the fact that Squirtle can be quite powerful, the younger brother was ready to make a capture.
"With my very own Squirtle, Gary will never beat me!" Ash smirked as the elder brother looked at his little brother with a little hint of surprise.
"You're going to catch one? I thought you would've been annoyed by the practical jokes those five gave off..." Isamu reminded, causing the younger brother to smile confidently as he turned back to the Squirtle group.
"I am, but that just makes me want to catch one of them even more! Go, Pikachu! Thunderbolt!" Ash shouted out, as the Mouse Pokémon did so! But as the leader was about to get shocked, one of his team members took the hit instead!
That caught both Yellow and Luna by surprise while Isamu narrowed his eyes at the bold move as the other three Squirtle and the leader watched in surprise to see the team member falling from the super effective attack.
At that, the leader of the Squirtle group glared at Pikachu, who only glared back. In a way, it looked to become a Western showdown, as the two continued to glare at each other with time passing by.
"Are they... going to make a move or a have a staring contest...?" Luna thought as she sweat dropped with how the two looked right now. But before anyone could speak, there were noises of a siren coming from not too far!
At hearing that, the leader turned to his teammates, shouting at them to retreat while the other three Squirtle members grabbed their fallen friend and ran off!
"Ah! Hey, wait...!" Yellow called out, as the five Water Types ran off. As soon as they were out of sight, the six Trainers frowned at where they were running off to.
"That sure was weird..." Ash commented with a confused look. As he spoke, the group turned to see Officer Jenny coming over with her motorbike, approaching the group to see if there was any damage.
"Are you guys alright? Has anyone been hurt here?" Officer Jenny asked, until the younger brother smiled.
"Officer Jenny!" Ash called out, confusing the officer.
"Huh...? Have we met before? Your face doesn't look familiar..." Officer Jenny questioned, before Ash raised a point.
"We met you back at Viridian City, remember?" Ash asked, causing the officer to smile and realize what the younger brother was talking about.
"Oh... you mean one of the other Jennys, my cousin!" Officer Jenny realized, catching the group a little off guard.
"Cousins?" Luna repeated in surprise, causing the officer to explain.
"My cousins are all police officers. All of us look identical, plus we're all named Jenny." Officer Jenny explained before she showed a photo of her and her cousins... which were all very much the same except for the police symbols on their police hats.
"Talk about family resemblance..." Ash chuckled a little as Misty made a sheepish look.
"At least they remember all their names." Misty pointed out.
With that being said, the officer asked the six to come if they wanted to know more about the five Squirtle that had pranked them earlier. But before the six Trainers could all move on...
A heavy rustling of bushes nearby caught their attention as they looked to their left where the bushes are. Ash, Misty, and Brock didn't seem to hear, but Isamu, Yellow, and Luna did along with their Pokémon partners.
"What's that...?" Luna asked, causing Isamu to narrow his eyes while Arcanine growled a little, getting ready to fight if they needed to. But to their surprise, it wasn't a big Pokémon that came out, but two familiar Pokémon that Isamu was so familiar of...
"Two... Eevees?" Isamu questioned in surprise as he and the girls watched in shock to see two Evolution Pokémon covered in bruises as if they had been fighting somehow. As the two were looking around, the older looking one saw the trio and widened his eyes.
Growling at them, the older Eevee got in front of the second one, which seemed to be his sister.
"Could they be siblings? The bigger one seems to be willing to protect the smaller one..." Yellow thought, before she noticed the younger Eevee giving her and her two friends a sad look before she was dragged away by the bigger Eevee...
"What was that about...? Those two look like Eevees, like yours, Isamu...!" Luna asked, feeling a little concerned.
The elder Ketchum brother nodded in agreement, as he too could tell that they were just like his Evolution Pokémon partner. For Isamu's Eevee, the Normal Type frowned a little, seeing that the two didn't see her on Isamu's shoulder.
"Yeah, are they really like you, girl?" Isamu asked, causing Eevee to give a small nod and a small cry of concern.
"Vee, vee..." Eevee cried out, as Luna watched to where they had disappeared off to.
"First those Squirtles, and now those Eevee... I like to know where those two came from and what are they running from..." Luna stated, before Yellow seemed to notice something along with Chuchu.
"Luna, Isamu, look! Up ahead!" Yellow cried, seeing and pointing to what looks to be two men with two Pokémon they have along with nets and tasers used for stunning things. They seem to be chasing the two Eevees they saw run past.
"Do you think...? Are they poachers?" Yellow asked, causing Isamu to narrow his eyes and make Luna realize what could be happening.
"Are they in trouble?" Luna asked, before the elder Ketchum brother made a suggestion that the girls would agree on.
"Let's go find them and see what we can do to help the Eevees." Isamu decided, earning nods from Luna and Yellow.
"Right!"
Soon, the three and their Pokémon partners ran after to where the Eevee siblings had ran off to...
Meanwhile...
At the police station, Officer Jenny began to explain of who those Water Types were and what they are to the people of the town.
"That Pokémon gang calls itself the Squirtle Squad." Officer Jenny explained, bewildering the younger Ketchum brother.
"Squirtle Squad?" Ash questioned in surprise.
"I've never heard of a Pokémon gang..." Misty admitted, causing the officer to explain their reason for being in town.
"They're all Squirtles who were deserted by their Pokémon Trainers." Officer Jenny explained, making the younger brother frown in concern.
"Deserted...?" Ash asked, as he recalled to what had happened to Charmander, who was also deserted by Damian for being considered weak.
"They don't have a Trainer, so they just run wild and play tricks on the whole town..." Officer Jenny explained. The officer began to recall the pranks and the little incidents the five had caused ever since they joined together.
The numerous reports and the complaints she has received about the five were getting bigger when time passed by. But the officer didn't consider them as threats. Rather, she considered them to be the lonely types as she sighed.
"It's really kind of sad because if they had somebody to care about them, they wouldn't have turned out to be as bad as they are... It's a real shame..." Officer Jenny sighed sadly.
The younger brother frowned, before he blinked, realizing that there were a few people missing from the group.
"Hey wait... Where did big bro, Luna, and Yellow run off to...?" Ash asked, bewildered to see his brother and the two girls not around. Brock and Misty blinked in surprise as well, as they hadn't noticed their three friends gone off either.
"They were here with us back at the hole..." Misty commented as Brock frowned.
"You don't suppose they went after the Squirtle Squad...?" Brock guessed, causing Ash and Misty to be alert.
"Oh man... if they did, then they might be in a bit of a pickle..." Misty frowned, feeling concerned as the younger brother frowned.
"How did I not see them go missing...? But what are they up to...?" Ash thought before the officer came up with a guess.
"Perhaps they're searching for the two runaway Pokémon..." Officer Jenny guessed, catching the trio's attention as they turned to her.
"Runaway Pokémon?" Misty repeated in confusion, earning a nod from her as Officer Jenny began to explain.
"A week ago, we had a report of injured Pokémon that seemed to have been both abused and abandoned... Honestly, we couldn't tell if it was from another Pokémon or a Pokémon Trainer... Here are the pictures of our two runaways..." Officer Jenny explained.
Using the computer, she showed the group a picture of the two Pokémon that had ran off.
"Hey wait... aren't those two Eevee...? Like with Isamu's Eevee?" Misty pointed out, surprised to see the duo.
"That's right. From what we know, they seem to be siblings, with the bigger one being the older sibling. Those two are quite wary of humans, to be honest. Ever since they were brought in here, they refused to make contact with us no matter what we did..." Officer Jenny explained.
"Then those two must've been abandoned by their Trainers... Mm...! It's just like with what happened to Charmander when he was abandoned by Damian...!" Ash growled, feeling rather annoyed for how many Trainers there were that could be abusing their Pokémon.
"Calm down, Ash... So do you have any clue as to where those two Eevee might be in?" Brock questioned, earning a shaking head from the officer.
"All I can say is that they must still be around town. We've had numerous reports of people seeing those two, yet they always managed to get away from them. I can only guess their wariness of humans made them quite evasive around the people..." Officer Jenny explained.
"Poor them..." Misty spoke, feeling terrible for the two Normal Types.
Back to Isamu and the others...
"Have you two found anything?" Isamu called out as he came out of the tall grass.
"No, nothing..." Yellow frowned, with Chuchu shaking her head sadly. Luna sighed, indicating that she had no luck with finding the two Evolution Pokémon either. Arcanine and Ninetales only frowned, giving expressions that they came empty-handed, too.
The elder Ketchum brother frowned, folding his arms on the big situation they were in...
"This is a problem... They must be quite wary around the people if we can't even find a clue of them..." Isamu commented, as Yellow looked around.
"I wonder if they're trying to escape those poachers... That could be one of the reasons why they don't trust us... well... mainly the bigger one." Yellow suggested, causing Luna to turn to her.
"What do you mean?" asked Brock's adopted sister, causing the straw hat girl to explain.
"I noticed the little one, the female Eevee... looking rather sad when the bigger one took her away. It's as if she wanted to communicate with us, but the bigger one seemed to not want that..." Yellow explained, as the elder brother raised an eyebrow.
"The bigger one is too wary while the little one is the exact opposite, huh..." Isamu thought before he scratched the back of his head. As for his Normal Type partner, the Evolution Pokémon gave a sad cry of concern.
"You're worried about them too, aren't you, girl?" Isamu asked, earning a sad cry from his Evolution Pokémon partner.
"Vee..."
"Me too, girl... Me too..." Isamu admitted as he turned to his two companions.
"Let's split up one more time. if we look hard enough, then maybe we can find a trace of one of them at least..." Isamu suggested, earning a nod from the girls before they began to split once more to search around for the two Normal Types.
For Luna, she searched around the trees with Arcanine and Ninetales by her side. Looking carefully, the adopted sister formed a frown on her face, as she remembered the sad gaze the little Eevee had before she was taken away.
"That look on that poor Eevee's face... It brings back the old memories... of when... I had the same look as hers..." Luna thought, as she closed her eyes, recalling back to when she was abused by her father...
Upon noticing how unsettled Luna looked, the Legendary Pokémon nudged her arm, attempting to comfort his human friend. The surprised girl turned to her first Pokémon friend, who growled softly at her as she smiled softly.
Another nudge on the other arm caused the adopted sister to smile at Ninetales this time, who had a motherly look on her face.
"Thanks, you two... I think I'll feel a little better once we help those two out..." Luna assured, earning smiles from the two Fire Types. But just as she was comforted, rustling noises were heard from behind her as Luna turned.
"Who's there...?" Luna asked, causing Arcanine and Ninetales to be ready for what could come and attack. But like before, the two and their Trainer gained a surprise instead as a little Eevee came out from the bushes...
"Vee? Eevee?"
The little Normal Type came over to Luna, gazing at her curiously. Upon seeing the little Normal Type, the adopted sister widened her eyes in surprise as she took the little Normal Type into her arms.
"Wait... Aren't you... that same little Eevee that ran away with the bigger one? What are you doing here? Where's your big brother?" Luna asked, as she stroked the little fox-like Pokémon's head.
"Vee..." The Evolution Pokémon gave a soft, yet weak cry upon the soft touch as she nuzzled the hand that touched her softly. Blinking in surprise, the adopted sister turned her surprised look into a soft one as she rubbed the little one's head more.
"You're so cute... Why did you get hurt...? Was it because of those mean and scary poachers?" Luna questioned in a motherly tone, as she noticed the small bruises and cuts the little Eevee had all over her body.
Arcanine watched with a small smirk, seeing how motherly his human friend was acting to the little one while Ninetales gave a silent giggle to herself. What Luna was doing right now, was very similar as to how she treated Vulpix...
The two Fire Types watched as Luna began to comfort the little Eevee, as the young Normal Type squirmed a little, before giggling at the soft touches she was getting from the human girl.
Meanwhile...
Yellow was searching in a different area with Chuchu in her arms. As the search went on, the straw hat girl remained silent before stopping suddenly.
"Chu?" Chuchu asked in surprise before Yellow smiled softly at her Electric Type friend.
"Shh... I think we may have found something..." Yellow spoke softly, causing Chuchu to blink in confusion. Before she could make another questioning cry though, the young Mouse Pokémon turned to see the tall grass rustling a little bit.
The straw hat girl smiled softly, before she called for the figure that was hiding in the tall grass.
"You can come out now... It's okay. No one here is going to try and attack you, Eevee." Yellow assured softly. At the soft tone, the rustling stopped. Then slowly, out from the tall grass came the bigger Eevee, who kept the wary look on his face.
"Vee..." Eevee spoke as he glared at the straw hat girl, who kept the calm and soft smile on her face. Chuchu blinked, unsure on how to greet the Normal Type until the straw hat girl gestured the Eevee to come.
"It's okay... I promise. I won't hurt you..." Yellow spoke gently. At first, the male Eevee remained wary as he came to believe at first that this was a lie. But upon seeing the gentle look and the soft expression on her face...
"Vee..." The big Eevee stepped up a little, making baby steps until he had finally reached to where Yellow's hand could reach. As he stopped, Yellow took this chance to give a small rub on the Normal Type's head.
"There... That's much better... Right?" Yellow asked, causing Eevee to huff and turn away a little. Chuchu frowned at the attitude the Normal Type was giving to her human friend as Yellow kept her calm smile.
"Will you tell me what happened...?" Yellow asked, causing the big Normal Type to turn to her in surprise. The thought of a human understanding what a Pokémon like him was going to say was rather... unlikely or definitely impossible.
Yet, this human girl was willing to try and understand him? The Normal Type's mind was rather in a bewildered state as he frowned, not believing that the human girl would be able to understand his feelings or his past.
Still...
"I promise... I'll listen well and try to understand on what you're feeling." Yellow assured, causing the big Eevee to sigh a little. With those kinds of words, how can he refuse or try to resist?
With that in mind, the big Eevee stepped up, before he began to explain of what happened to him and his little sister in the past, regarding the humans and the poachers that were chasing him and his sister earlier.
Meanwhile...
The elder Ketchum brother walked around, searching for any clues about the Eevee siblings. His Evolution Pokémon partner was on top of his head, trying to call for her type, attempting to get them to come out.
"Vee! Eevee vee! Eevee!"
Neither of the two realized however, that Yellow and Luna had already found the two of them and were both trying to bond with the wary Normal Types.
"I wonder if those two are a bit far from where we are? Or did the girls found them? That couldn't be it, right... Huh?" Isamu started to think before he turned to where there seemed to be some figures ahead.
Narrowing his eyes in wonder, the elder Ketchum brother headed over to where the figures were. But upon getting close, Isamu widened his eyes and ducked into the tall grass, with Eevee doing the same as she had noticed the same thing that Isamu had noticed.
Up ahead... were men that looked like Pokémon poachers! There were two of them, sitting on the old logs, both looking rather irritated and annoyed from what seemed to have happened earlier.
"Dang it... We were so close on catching those two pesky Eevee, yet they somehow managed to escape our grasp again! How do they do it!?" The first poacher snapped angrily, as the second poacher sighed.
"The police reports that we made copies of did say that they were both wary of humans, and they were quick to evade them... Perhaps that could be the reason why. Those two don't trust humans at all..." The second poacher reminded.
The conversation the two were having allowed the elder Ketchum brother to realize that they were talking about the two same Eevee that he and the girls were chasing after to save them from men like them...!
As he was about to leave the two be to try and get back to the search, a certain subject stopped the elder brother from making his silent escape.
"Anyways, you ever heard about the Phantom Pokémon?" The second poacher suddenly asked, stopping Isamu from his tracks.
"You mean the little rumor about a mysterious, powerful Pokémon? Ain't that just a rumor? We're supposed to capture some Eevee, not that kind of Pokémon." The first poacher questioned with a frown.
"Phantom Pokémon?" Isamu thought with a frown as the second started to explain.
"I know, but I heard word that it wasn't just a rumor, but it was real! There were sightings of that kind of Pokémon around another town! Some group of baddies tried to capture it, but it ended up getting away..." The second poacher explained with a smile.
"Baddies? You mean those Team Rocket goons?" The first asked, causing Isamu to blink in surprise. The only Team Rocket members he knew of were Jessie and James along with Meowth.
Another group would be Cassidy and Butch, the duo that claimed to be superior than Jessie and James. But from what the poachers were saying, it sounded like there were more Team Rocket members than he had thought.
"Team Rocket... and Phantom Pokémon...? Just what is this all about exactly...?" Isamu thought seriously before he shook his head. Remaining silent with Eevee, the two made their quick and silent escape to reunite with Yellow and Luna.
