Chapter 28
Harry spent the next few days in the hospital wing being too sick to leave, though he had his mission from Dumbledore the treatment was making him feel grim, and unable to get out of bed. He was glad he had performed that charm on himself as if he had still had been using the simple glamour's people would have noticed and said something, he would do anything to make sure his darkest secret would stay secret.
Now according to Madame Pomfrey, he only had three treatments left, one today, one Wednesday and then the last on the following Friday, after that they had to wait a week before they could perform the operation to make sure he was at his weakest so only the smallest amount of venom could be used. The mediwizards and witches were also stocking up on phoenix tears because they didn't want the venom to kill the boy, Harry was very aware about what was happening around him and so they were very careful to explain everything.
This morning, after taking his potions and eating quite a big breakfast since the appetite potions and anti-nausea potions were working well, Dumbledore had come to see Harry with a few items of interest. Harry could tell already that some of them, if not all of them were Horcrues, the headsplitting sound they gave off was almost unbarable. He sat down next to Harry who was sitting up in bed with a beanie hat on due to giving up on trying to regrow his hair until the whole thing was over.
'Morning Harry' greeted Dumbledore
'Morning Sir, how is the hunt going?'
'Well, Harry my boy, very well and please call me Albus we are working together on this project'
'Ok Albus' replied Harry trying not to cringe because he thought he was being disrespectful to his professor.
'I have managed to remove Helga Hufflepuffs from Bellatrix LaStranges' vault with some help from a few goblins and Sirius'
'You've been talking to Sirius, is he okay, where is he now?' Hope filled Harry's chest, he needed Sirius back after everything he did for him in the summer, for him to be okay.
'Harry, calm yourself. Sirius is doing fine; he is laying low around Voldemort's camp pretending to be a stray. Have you heard that the high security prisoners have escaped Azkaban and the dementors going astray' Dumbledore explained.
'Yes of course, it was all over the profit the other day'
'Yes well, the reason that was so successful is because Sirius was able to show them around there and let them free since he knows the place from being there so long. He has now got Voldemort's trust and when I launch the signal he will guide the Dark Lord into a trap where they will be exposed. Sirius will then kill the snake and flee'
'When is the signal going to be launched?' asked Harry, he didn't want anything more to happen to Sirius he had been though enough already.
'We don't want to launch the signal until Voldemort is at his weakest, this means while they are removing the horcrux from you, I will be destroying the others. Once all this has happened then it's just him to finish off, but you have to be the one to kill him.'
'Me? Why me? If he is mortal once more can't any wizard or witch kill him?' asked Harry, this would be his perfect opportunity to fulfill his wish of ending it without anyone questioning him. Harry tried to sound scared and worried but he didn't know if he was able to pull it off. However Dumbledore started to explain so he must have sounded somewhat worried.
'No ordinary wizard can kill him because they do not have your wand. Your wand and Voldemort's are brothers as you are aware. Once the two wands have been connected once, then they will never be able to cause any lasting damage to the others master, however if Voldemort tries to use the killing curse on you and you cast the disarming charm on him, he will be disarmed and so his curse will rebound on him and kill him, no other wand has this connection, and every wand works best with its own master.'
'I understand, but if I do not respond with a spell then I will die? And Voldemort will still live'
'yes Harry, exactly that. You are the wizarding worlds hope for peace from this man. I will help prepare you but when the time comes I need to ask too much of you' Harrys heart shattered, he needed to kill Voldemort after what he did to his parents, and rid everyone of this fiend. His selfish wished of wanting to die should not overrule this.
'When will all this happen?'
'As soon as you are strong enough'
'I understand, is this the final task?'
'Yes Harry, now how are you doing finding that diadem?'
'I haven't been out since last week so not that great. I'm feeling a bit better today so I hope she will allow me out.'
'You will be, I will talk to Poppy and you will be able to leave, I will come with you since I think I have found all the others. Can I just check that with you?' Harry nodded and then run his hand over each of the objects. At the slightest touch he could see into Voldemort's mind and see memories but also his scar twinged painfully on his head so much so he nearly yelped. After that the headmaster was guided out and Harry given some dreamless sleep, the Horcruxes had exhausted him.
At one o'clock Harry was wide awake ready to go and find the diadem with Dumbeldore, Madame Pomfrey had given him his crutches back since he was too weak to walk very far these days and he was slowly making his way to the door when Dumbledore showed up.
'You ready Harry?' Harry gave a short, quick but significant nod and they were off, they walked as quick as Harry could go up to the seventh floor, then both waked back and forth three times at the entrance. Once they had finished walking back and forth a grand door had appeared on the wall. Carefully they both went in and looking around Harry knew there was a big search ahead of them.
The room was full of stacks and stacks of items, broomsticks, books, cauldrons anything magical you could think of, name it you can see it. Grandfather clocks, cupboards, candles to robes, tables and a old potion set which stunk, nearly making Harry sick. Dumbledore took one way and Harry the other and hoped they would have some sort of sign.
After three hours Harry was walking past a stack of old boxes, some looked like they were music boxes or boxes of boxes. Some were big enough they held chairs and trunks, mirrors all stacked up to the ceiling which could barely be made out. Harry looked up, leant upwards slightly then heard a faint noise which sounded like a Horcrux. He took one of the chairs off the pile carefully and put it next to the pile, he then climbed on top of the chair and the noise sounded closer.
'Albus!' Harry called across the room carefully getting down from the chair and sitting on it, his exhaustion getting to him. Now he knew why the matron wouldn't allow him out. Dumbledore came quickly across the room and stopped where Harry was sitting. 'Sorry Albus, needed a break. The horcrux, it's on the top of this pile'
'Brilliant!' Dumbledore then summoned a large ladder and climbed up and up and up. Harry made sure the ladder didn't shake too much as the old man went higher and higher. He then stopped about ten rungs from the top and pulled out a dainty box he then climbed back down. As the box was getting closer to Harry the noise was soon getting louder and louder.
When Dumbledore was down he opened the box which spat out gold and silver chains of many shapes and sizes, rings with large diamonds engraved with names of people long ago. Then the diadem could be seen, the dainty thing with a blue stone plated on the front.
'That's it!' exclaimed Harry and Dumbledore together. Both smiled gleefully before leaving the room of requirement and going back down to the infirmary, this time Dumbledore levitated Harry back since he was so tired. When finally, at the intermarry a very annoyed matron was waiting for them.
'Honestly you are both as bad as each other, come now Potter, your dose is waiting, then you will eat and have some dreamless sleep, you look exhausted. I hope you are pleased with yourself Albus'
'Yes, yes I am Poppy' replied Dumbeldore leaving Madame Pomfrey taking Harry back to his bed, his shirt opened and an injection placed in his central line, once his was attached to the bag of treatment dripping slowly into his body he was given some dreamless sleep due to the fact that he looked like a walking corpse.
Harry really didn't need the dreamless sleep because as soon as he closed his eyes he was dropping off, but he was really glad they gave it him, he didn't want to wake up from a nightmare anytime soon.
