Chapter 24: The Demon and the Criminal

Jellal's POV

As I listened to the strangers story it was made clear that he truly was my brother. Hearing him explain that he was a demon made by Zeref and that he had been trapped by his fellow demons for the last six months pissed me off. Had I known he was alive things would be different. I would have come to Tartaros at once and help him escape. I would have blown the whole guild out of the sky if it meant rescuing my brother.

"So you look like this now? This is your human form?" I asked him, when he had finished telling his story.

"Yes… This is the human me… My demon is buffer, more animal like. With horns!"

"And your magic has changed too…" Ultear chipped in.

"Yes! I am no longer a Phoenix Slayer… I have been told my Mard Geer that it was just latent power that belonged to my father, it was stored inside me when I was born. So I am not really a Phoenix Slayer…"

"But everything that happened at the Tower when we were kids?" I asked him.

"I don't know? I will find out one day… But until then I aim to become as strong as I can… That means getting new powers!"

"New powers?" Meredy asked.

"I will gain Demon Slayer powers!" Luke explained.

"Can a demon really learn Demon Slayer powers!?" Ultear asked.

"I have a friend on the inside that knows just how I can learn it!" Luke smiled content.

"You intend to take on the entirety of Tartaros by yourself?" Merey asked him.

"No, no!" He chuckled. "I am waiting for Fairy Tail to return first!"

"Luke!" I sighed. "You know that… Well… That Fairy Tail is not what it used to be… That Erza is…"

"Oh, the members that were lost at Tenrou Island six years ago? They live! The First Master told me that when she visited me!"

"WHAT!" Me, Ultear and Meredy gasped.

"You neglected to mention that!" Ultear sighed.

"Yeah, I know it sound crazy, but just wait for six months and you'll see! The whole gang will return! Erza too!"

"Luke, living in denial is… It's hard, I know! But you have to let go of Erza and look ahead!" I told my brother. It was painful but someone had to tell him.

He looked at me and sighed.

"Never mind… If I cannot convince you, then I won't stress it further…"

"Luke…" Meredy seemed saddened by his statement. What did it mean anyway?

"But what do you plan to do once you've gotten stronger?" Ultear asked, trying to change the subject.

"Watch the Grand Magic Games!" Luke answered. "I need strong allies if I am meant to take on Tartaros! These demons are unlike any mages I have ever seen! They are brutal, savage and cruel! And they are strong! So very strong!"

"And you intend to search for allies at the Games?" I asked him.

"Yes! You said you had something you wanted to look into at the Games? I can help you out as I search for allies."

"That would be great!" Meredy said.

"You don't have to you know!" I told him. "You have your own problems, so I don't want to add to your load!"

"Jellal!" Ultear snapped. "We need all the help we can get! And he is your brother! Spending time with him is important! Especially now that he has returned!"

"Ye-yeah! You are right!" I answered nervously.

"I'll gladly help you guys! Us working together could never go wrong!" Luke smiled. Even though it was a new face, a new him, I could still see the same kid I had grown up with underneath.

"I guess you can't tell us much about the other demons, huh?" Ultear asked him.

"Not really…" He crossed his arms. "Most of them are out on quests or in another country even. Only I, my mother, Mard Geer and Seilah stay at the guild. I have not even met all the other main members of Tartaros."

"How many are there?" I asked.

"Ten in total, excluding me!"

"Only ten?" Meredy asked confused.

"They are the only ones that matter! The Nine Demon Gates of Tartaros. My mother is not counted to the group, as she is a not one of the original members. She was created for my birth and not for the demons' collective purpose, so she is excluded from the main members!"

"But she is strong!" I asked.

"Terrifyingly so! She and I train every moment we get, she beats me most of the time. Never goes easy on me. But she is nothing compared to the other of the Nine!"

"Do you know anything about them?" Ultear asked.

"I… Wait!" Luke's face turned pale. "She is coming!"

"Who?" I asked him as I worried what he meant.

"My mother! I can feel her magical energy!"

"What should we do?" Meredy asked.

"Get away! Run!" Luke told us, he was panicking. "She is shit at sensing other's magic! If you go now you'll be able to get away from her!"

"But-" I tried.

"GO! She must be out looking for me! I have been away from the guild for too long!"

"I can't just leave you!" I told him.

"You must!" I told me. "I have a mission and so do you! You dying for me here won't help anyone!"

"But I-"

"Just go!" He pushed me away. "If you want to meet me, look for me in the capital the first of April! I will tell you more then!"

"Luke! I… I am happy that you are alive!" I told him, tears running down my face.

He looked at me, tears running down his face too. He wiped his face with his sleeve and smiled at me.

"Me too, big brother! Now go!"

"First of April!" I repeated.

"First of April!" He repeated.

I nodded to him and ran away as fast as I could, making sure that Meredy and Ultear kept up. For a split second I could feel the demon's magical energy. I was terrified. That terrifying being was my brother's mother? And worse yet, she had him trapped and trained him to be a killer!

As we ran away I made a promise to myself: I would see my brother again and together we would take down both Tartaros and Zeref!

Just wait for me Luke! I will honor Erza and save you one day, just you wait!

And that is Chapter 24! I hope you enjoy! We are getting closer to the Grand Magic Games! So let's hope that Fairy Tail actually returns and helps Luke and Jellal to combat the threat that is Tartaros!
