Chapter 25: The Fated Finale, Act 5
"To think you three would go so far just for revenge…" N says to the Shadow Triad beratingly. Unsurprisingly, they all remain defiant, and begin explaining their actions to their former King.
"Heh heh heh...We knew we could never defeat one, or in this case, two former Unova League Champions in a normal Pokémon battle…"
"So we decided...to salvage what was left of Master Ghetsis' plan…And use Kyurem against either of them..."
"We recovered and repaired Master Ghetsis' control device and recovered the DNA Splicers from the Giant Chasm. We also stole a Master Ball from a raffle shop in Join Avenue, and caught Kyurem with it."
"I'm guessing you only wanted to use Kyurem to get back at us, right? And not to take over Unova like Ghetsis did nor destroy the region?" Black asks them, having deduced the scale of their actions.
"Correct you are…" The first Shadow Triad member replies. The second and third, as before, continue telling the four Trainers in front of them the rest of their story.
"It was one thing to help with attempting a takeover of this entire Region under Master Ghetsis. With Team Plasma no longer a criminal organization, we have no reason to attempt any senseless bloodshed or violence against civilians."
"All we want at this point is revenge against those who have wronged Master Ghetsis. Consider this as paying back our dues…" Nate and especially Yancy, while partially sympathetic to their undying loyalty to a now-lost cause, are also justifiably angry at their actions, which they make everyone else aware of immediately.
"That doesn't excuse bombing a hotel just to kidnap my girlfriend in front of me!" Nate screams at them angrily. Meanwhile, the normally calm and meek Yancy angrily lashes out at them, surprising both her boyfriend as well as the other three Trainers with them.
"Neither does it justify you leaving me to freeze in an abandoned Pokemon Gym!"
"(Man, are they really pissed off, especially her…)" Black mutters. White, overhearing her childhood friend, chuckles.
"(This reminds me of the times we fought Team Plasma then…)" N, who had been preoccupied with the Shadow Triad until now, notices their murmuring.
"(Ummm, you two, we have a bigger problem here…)" He murmurs to them.
"(Oh yeah, right…)"
"(Sorry, darling...)"
"Hahaha...Darling? Is that what you call him, now?" Before White can reply, N stops both of them from bickering any further.
"Quit it you two! Focus!"
"Sorry…"
"So, uh, what's the plan here? Don't tell me I have to fight Kyurem again?"
"No, don't worry about that." N replies to him. "Because I'll deal with Kyurem for you… Go, Reshiram! Use Fusion Flare!" Immediately, the two Legendary Dragon Pokémon begin battling, with N taking the fight away from Icirrus City. "And don't worry about Zekrom, Black. I'll make sure to get the Legendary Dragon back for you in one piece."
"Sure thing! And we'll take care of these guys for you in return!" Both of them nod at one another in agreement, before N resumes diverting Black Kyurem away from the city. From the distance, beams of flames, ice, and electricity can be seen emanating from the two Legendary Pokemon, before fading away.
"Thanks…" Nate sighs in relief. "Guess I'm going for the first Triad member, then…Go, Lucario!"
"I'll win! This is the only way to regain his lost heart! Go, Bisharp!" The first Shadow Triad member says as he sends out his own Pokémon.
"I'll take the second guy…Go for it, Samurott!" Black replies.
"Battle for Ghetsis! This is the only proof I'm living now. This is for ruining our plans those many years ago! Go, Bisharp!"
Just as White is about to deal with the third member, however, Yancy steps in her place…
"Mind if I take on this guy?" She asks her. "Think of it as payback for earlier…"
"Be my guest." She then steps aside. "I think I'm gonna back up N and follow him." The brown-haired young woman then calls out a Mandibuzz, then proceeds to fly in the direction N and Black Kyurem went.
"And there she goes…" Black says. "So much for backing me up... Oh well…"
"Well, at least you still have me and Yancy."
The pink-haired girl then faces her opponent. The Shadow Triad member, seeing the anger and determination in her eyes, smiles back.
"Now, I think we pretty much understand each other…" He tells the young woman.
"Understand what? She asks angrily, clearly not wanting to listen to her foe's banter. To her surprise, however, he does give a solid reply.
"Your eyes... I can tell from them that you now seek to get even, much like how we do…"
"Perhaps…" She replies, admitting to her opponent. "Normally, I'm very forgiving towards most opponents I face. But...after what you've done to me, I'm not so sure if I can even forgive you criminals…" She then pulls out a Poke ball from her pocket. "Consider this personal...Go, Togekiss!"
"Heh heh heh. I like your attitude. We, the Shadow Triad, were, are, and will be the royal servants of Ghetsis! Go, Bisharp!"
…
Meanwhile, somewhere on Route 8, to the east of Icirrus City…
…
*Kyurem used Freeze Shock!*
"Reshiram, use Fusion Flare!"
Both Legendary Pokemon take hits from the other, but remain largely unscathed. Both moves are so powerful, that the nearby Moor of Icirrus has several of its trees blown down by the force of the collateral damage. Suddenly, in the midst of this violent confrontation...
"N!" White screams.
"White? What are you doing here? It's dangerous." At this point, N and Reshiram have been fighting Black Kyurem for around 10 minutes now. By now, the entire Route has been frozen solid as if it were in the middle of Winter. Burnt down and blown away trees litter the entire area. Even more eerie is that many of the bodies of water, many of which had become frozen solid like the rest of the area, have also been vaporized thanks to Reshiram's Fusion Flare and Blue Flare. N knew that if he were to lose, Unova might be at risk of another, possibly worse apocalypse, with thousands if not millions lives at risk. Even moreso since there was no one controlling the Legendary Dragon this time around. If there was one positive thing out of all this, it's that, thankfully, all the people present in the area have fled, leaving him, the Vast White Pokemon, and the Boundary Pokemon free to duke it out.
"I got here to back you up." Immediately, she takes note of his and his Pokemon's tired expressions. "And from the looks of things, you really, really do need it…" Hearing this from her, he smiles.
"Alright then… I think it's pointless to argue with you at this point…You think you could send out one of the Swords of Justice right now?"
"Of course...Go for it, Cobalion!" And with that, she orders the Iron Will Pokemon to attack the Legendary Dragon in front of them.
Now facing two Legendary Pokemon, Kyurem itself now begins to feel stress and exhaustion. However, it refuses to back down, and continues thrashing at them.
…
"You think N and White are alright?" Nate asks, his Pokemon having just knocked out two of his opponent's own Pokemon already. "They've been gone for quite a bit, don't you think?"
"They're fine…" Black replies, also having just knocked out his opponent's Pokemon. "They have Legendary Pokemon with them, much like I'd normally have if it weren't for what happened earlier..."
"We can worry about that later, you two…" Yancy tells them, having knocked her own opponent's Pokémon as well. "We still have these guys to deal with..." And with that, the Shadow Triad prepare to send out their last remaining Pokémon.
"Heh heh heh...You may have knocked out two each of our Pokémon…"
"But we're far from finished here…"
"We may not be a match for you without Black Kyurem, but we can still put up a fight to the finish…" All three of them then pull out their final Poké Balls.
"Go, Sharpedo!"
"Fight them, Tyranitar!"
"I'm sending you out, Houndoom!"
Nate is immediately taken aback by their new Pokémon. It's then that he notices them wearing three peculiar bracelets with a familiar-looking stone.
"(Don't tell me those are…)"
Seeing his younger opponent's worried expression, the Shadow Triad member in front of him smugly replies. "Indeed, this is what you think it is. A Key Stone!"
"All of us have one."
"Heh heh heh. And of course, all of our Pokémon here have Mega Stones."
Both Nate and Yancy immediately become alarmed, while Black is instead impressed at their effort in trying to beat the three of them.
"Interesting..." He tells them. "You guys thought of everything just for a chance of a victory."
"Indeed, we have."
"Just because we knew we couldn't stand a chance at victory doesn't mean we're ready to embrace the throes of defeat, and not especially against those of you who have wronged Master Ghetsis…"
"And now, we shall fight to the last Pokemon…" They then Mega-Evolve their three Dark-type Pokemon.
Immediately, both Black and Yancy withdraw their current Pokemon. Nate, meanwhile, Mega-Evolves his own Pokemon in response…
"Samurott, come back!" He then selects a new Poke Ball. "Go, Pinsir!"
"Togekiss, switch out! I trust you, Mawile!"
Like Nate, they immediately Mega-Evolve their own Pokemon. In Black's case, he reveals a previously-unseen Key Stone from his jacket's right chest pocket.
"Pinsir, huh? And I'd love to ask where exactly you got your Key Stone and Mega Stone."
"Got the Key Stone from this Gym Leader girl from Kalos after I left Unova…As for the Mega Stone, I bought it from this place called the Battle Tree in Alola..."
Yancy, seeing that they're once again distracted, is forced to get their attention once more. "Ummm, guys, the battle..."
"Right…"
"Hehe, sorry for that…Now then…"
…
"Cobalion, finish it off with Sacred Sword!"
"Reshiram, Dragon Pulse!"
*Kyurem fainted!*
After what seemed like an eternity, the Boundary Pokemon is finally defeated, with the two Legendary Dragons finally separating from one another. Immediately, Kyurem flees back to the Giant Chasm, grateful to the two Pokemon Trainers that it has once again been freed. Zekrom, on the other hand, immediately heads back to Icirrus City.
"Darn, look at this place..." White says, finally taking the chance to take a glimpse of Route 8. "It looks like something out a post-apocalyptic work...Terrible."
"And it's good that we were both able to stop Kyurem from rampaging..." N replies, equally amazed and horrified at what the Boundary Pokemon had done to transform the landscape. "I'm glad you arrived in the nick of time. If you hadn't, this destruction could have reached Icirrus City, and people and Pokemon probably would have perished..."
"Speaking of Icirrus City...Should we head back?" White asks her companion. "I'm kind of worried that those Shadow Triad guys might have more than one trick up their sleeve."
"Yeah, we should. There's no knowing what else the Shadow Triad might have planned…Having known those guys for years, they're as dangerous as you think they are..."
As they begin making their way back to Icirrus City, both of them take note of something in a treeline on the outskirts of the city.
"Do you see that?" White asks N.
"You mean that house? Yeah, I do. And from what I recall, there was nothing there the last time I visited this city." Both trainers then make their way inside the place. What they find surprises them.
"These are..." White mutters, discovering several devices clearly taken from the Plasma Frigate.
"So this is the Shadow Triad's hideout. Or at least part of it..." N concludes after seeing notes and maps of their plan scattered around the place.
"W-Who are you!?" A disembodied voice asks the two intruders. Both Trainers barely recognize the voice, which in this case is that of a middle-aged man.
"Is that, who I think it is?" White asks N.
"In all likelihood, it probably is him…"
"S-should I call our mutual friend, then? Of you-know-who's location, I mean?"
After a brief pause, N then replies to her. "Yeah...Please do. Black did tell us on the line earlier to help "that guy" apprehend him for them, after all…"
White then pulls out her Xtransciever and begins making a call...
…
Despite their genuine improvement in terms of Pokémon, the Shadow Triad are ultimately still no match for the two former Unova League Champions and the equally determined Yancy. Each damaging blow they deal to their opponent's Pokémon is retaliated with a devastating hit. Despite their best efforts their new signature Pokemon are, much like their first two, on the brink of defeat, thanks in no part to their type disadvantage.
"Mawile, finish him off with Play Rough!"
"Pinsir, X-Scissor!"
"Lucario, use Close Combat!"
*The foe's Tyranitar fainted!*
*The foe's Sharpedo fainted!*
*The foe's Houndoom fainted!*
"...So what."
"I'm just a shadow, after all…"
"How disappointing…"
"To think our plans for revenge have been foiled by no less than two former Pokemon League Champions..." The first member tells them, clearly disappointed at the final outcome of their ultimately flawed plan. "Just because you stopped us, doesn't mean this is the end of us..."
"I should commend you, girl, for your strength and resilience." The third member tells Yancy. "Your looks deceived us really well..."
"And not even Kyurem could be a match for our former King..." The second member mutters, taking notice of an approaching white silhouette in the skies above.
After being defeated once more, with no Pokemon left to defend themselves, and with their plans foiled, all three of them make a hasty retreat. Just after they leave, N and White return, with Zekrom and Reshiram descending not too long afterward.
"Thanks for getting Zekrom back." Black tells N. "I guess that makes us even now." Black then calls the Deep Black Pokemon back into its Poke ball.
"Think nothing of it. I only did it since the Pokemon were both suffering at their hands."
"So, did the Shadow Triad just make another clean getaway?" Nate asks.
"I wouldn't want them kidnapping or threatening me or my family again…" Yancy continues, clearly worried for her own safety.
"No need to worry about that." White replies.
"Why's that?" The young couple ask. "Did something happen?" White then tells them what they had come across.
"We found their hideout at the edge of the city as we were making it back. It's a house hidden by a treeline over in that direction. And we...found Ghetsis in one of the rooms."
N then continues with "We contacted the authorities as soon as we could. They've surrounded the place already as we speak."
Sure enough, a familiar-looking brunet man in a brown trench coat appears from the direction the other two Trainers had come from., With them are several police officers with a now-apprehended Shadow Triad and the aforementioned Ghetsis, now sitting on a wheelchair and still in a vegetative state.
"Thank you again, Black, for helping to secure the remaining members of Team Plasma still at large. And I must thank you, N, for your part in preventing another crisis from hitting the Unova Region."
"Sure thing, Looker. It's the least I can do after leaving the Unova League."
"Again, think nothing of it. I helped so that Kyurem would no longer suffer, and so that I could bring Ghetsis and the Shadow Triad to justice." N then begins conversing with the captured Shadow Triad as well as the police officers that apprehended them and Ghetsis. White, meanwhile, is being questioned by two uniformed officers.
"And you must be Nate, former Champion of the Unova League and move actor Lack-Two." He then moves over to the pink-haired girl next to him. "And I assume you are Yancy, daughter of Jack Ruri and also known as the celebrity Nancy?"
"That's right…" She tells him, still shocked at the man's very quick and accurate deduction. "W-who are you?"
"My name is Looker. I'm an agent of the International Police. And I've been trying to catch these remaining leaders of Team Plasma ever since the incident a few years ago." Black then steps in and explains his side of the story to the two of them.
"When I defeated N back then, Looker asked me to help find and capture the Seven Sages of Team Plasma. And I did find and capture all of them with the agent's help."
"However, what we didn't account for at the time was the Shadow Triad. They had managed to evade the International Police, and as a result, were able to free Ghetsis, Zinzolin, and later, Bronius, Giallo, and Ryoku, from police custody."
"And I think you know the rest of what happened, Nate."
White and N, having just finished their conversations with the captured Team Plasma higher-ups and the police, then begin conversing with both Looker and Black.
"Well, I guess our part in closing this case is done. Me and White are planning on heading back to Alola now..." N then shakes hands with Looker, before talking to Black one last time. "And...thanks a lot, Black...for helping to bring Ghetsis and the Shadow Triad into custody."
"Don't mention it. I called you specifically because you were probably the only other person they'd likely listen to aside from Ghetsis. That, and I had a hunch…" In response, N smiles, and both young men shake their hands, before seeing each other off.
White, on the other hand, takes notice of Yancy's fancy dress.
"Oh my." She says to the pink-haired girl. "I didn't notice until just now...I, uh, really like your dress. It's just a shame we couldn't meet under better circumstances."
"Yeah, it is kind of a shame." She replies. "And...thank you for helping me back there. I wish I could thank you, somehow…"
"There's no need for that…" White says, turning down her offer. "Instead, I think I can entrust this to you." She then hands her a white envelope.
"What's this?"
"It's an invitation to participate in the PWT's World Leaders Tournament. I was among the few non-Gym Leader Trainers asked to take part, alongside Bianca and a number of people from a few other regions. But, anyway,I think it'd be better if you went."
"I...I could never accept this..." Just as she tries to hand back the envelope to the girl in front of her...
"Hey, don't say that." Nate interjects. "You have all eight Unova League Badges, beat Hugh, gave me a hard time when we battled, and handed that Shadow Triad guy a new one. What more convincing do you need?"
"Nate…Y-yeah, you're right..." She then puts the invitation in her pocket. "I guess I'll do my best then...Thank you." She then curtseys to the older girl, the latter of whom is slightly embarrassed.
"W-well then, I guess that's settled... Enjoy the PWT." Before leaving with N on Reshiram, she has a brief conversation with Black.
"Enjoying your fling with Elesa, I presume?" This immediately shakes the normally cool young man, whose face begins turning red and speech begins to stutter.
"W-where the heck did you get that info?"
"Just a rumor I heard from some Trainers I met back in Alola…"
"(Guess this just confirms it…Heh...)" Nate mutters to himself.
"Say hi to Bianca and Cheren for me, okay? And tell my mom that I'll be with N in Alola for a while longer."
"Yeah, sure. I'll definitely tell them that you're okay." She then embraces her childhood friend, before waving goodbye at him. She then hops onto Reshiram's back alongside N, with them heading off not long after.
"There they go…" Black says. "I guess that means we have to head back to Driftveil now…"
"Um, about that…" Nate says. "Could you, uh, do us a favor?"
"What is it?"
"While you were busy talking with your friend over there... me and Yancy were just talking about and considering, uh, enjoying the night a little more, especially after the party back there got cut short…" His stomach can then be heard growling. "And yeah, we weren't able to get anything to eat because of that…"
"I-I was also thinking of showing him this nice place with a beautiful night view, and..." Before she can finish her explanation to him, Black interrupts her.
"Sure, I'm cool with that."
"Wait, really? Just like that?" Nate asks, clearly doubting the authenticity of his companion's words. Black, in response, reassures him.
"Consider it as a favor for helping me beat the Shadow Triad back there. I'll even get those pesky news guys off your backs, if at least just for this night."
Not long after this, Nate and Yancy part ways with Black, with both of them calling out their signature Flying-type Pokemon and heading east.
…
"...And that's why I'm the only one who came back." Black says to both Nate's as well as Yancy's parents. "They just said they wanted to spend the rest of the night alone together."
"I see…" Mr. Ruri says. "That's all fine and good. After what they've been through earlier, they deserve it." Mrs. Ruri simply smiles in agreement at her husband's statement.
"It's a relief that nothing bad happened to either of them." Mrs. Kyouhei says.
"Thank you for helping our son." Mr Kyouhei tells Black while shaking the young man's hand in gratitude. "Please, take this as a token of me and my wife's gratitude." He then hands the Trainer a Technical Machine containing the move Snarl.
"Y-you're welcome." He then places it in his bag.
"So, where exactly did they go?" Both Mrs. Ruri and Mrs. Kyouhei ask him, clearly curious.
"I wish I knew about that myself…They just left without telling me. The only thing I can remember is that Nate said they were going to look for a place to eat, and that Yancy was going to show him a place which had this beautiful view at night, or something…"
Not long after saying this, Mrs. Ruri begins smiling, apparently realizing where exactly the two of them went.
"Is something wrong, dear?" Her husband asks.
"No, nothing..." She replies.
…
"It's been a while since I last went and ate here…" Nate says as he begins digging into his
"Thank you, Ms. Chris, for staying open and serving for us…" Yancy tells the Baker in front of her. "We're sorry if we bothered you at this time of the night. We ran into trouble earlier and…"
"It's no problem, Yancy. After what your parents did to help expand and move my business here, I have all the reason to return the favor to you."
Satisfied, the young lady then sits down with her boyfriend.
"I see you have a history with the owner." He tells her, before taking a sip from his drink.
"She was one of the people who taught me how to cook. She taught me how to bake bread, pick berries as ingredients, and on how to make sandwiches."
"That explains why they taste so similar..."
Instead of her usual smile, her expression changes into an annoyed pout. "Is that supposed to be a complaint?"
"N-not at all. In fact I love your food." He tells her in an apologetic manner.
"Ahahaha, I'm just kidding. I take it as a compliment that I learned from some good bakers and chefs." She then begins munching on her own sandwich.
After finishing their food and drinks, both of them split the bill and proceed to pay the owner, before heading out.
"What a beautiful night sky…" Nate says, looking up at the clear sky above them.
"I'm glad we both decided to go here…" Yancy replies.
Both of them then head to the center of the bridge in order to enjoy the view to its fullest. Not long after making it there, they both begin to look at one another in the eyes.
"Nate, do you think we could, uhhh...dance here?" She asks him, clearly embarrassed by the thought of dancing in public.
"Ummm...well...I…" He stutters, apparently just as embarrassed as she is, before finally finishing his reply. "I'd love to, but I've never danced with a partner before…"
"Neither have I…"
Hearing this relieves some of his tension. "So, if that's the case...Maybe I can just take the lead and see where we go from there?"
"S-sure…"
"What if people see us, though? Should we stop?"
"T-there's not going to be anyone passing through here at this time of the night, so I think we should be okay."
"If you say so…" Nate then begins holding his girlfriend, trying to take the lead. While awkward at first, Nate barely manages to get the mood going. Eventually, he manages to get an idea of what he's supposed to do, before finally dancing in tune with her under the moonlight.
"Nate...Can we kiss?"
"Here? And while we're already getting the hang of it, too?"
"Please?"
While hesitant at first, he eventually gives in to his girlfriend's request, and begins pressing his lips against hers. Like so many times before, it goes on for what seems like an eternity...That is, until someone grabs their attention.
"Woah, you're Lack-Two and Nancy!" A passing Youngster says. "C-could I have an autograph from both of you, please?" He then hands out a notebook and a pencil at the two of them. Apparently, he had been standing there in awe at the sight in front of him a while now...
"H-uh?"
"Hm, Nate? Why did you...Uhhh ohhh…"
Both are initially stunned at first, before they both scream in surprise.
"WAAAAAAAHHHHHH!"
"AHHHHHH!"
