Miranda looks down from the balcony at Irene's apartment to the smashed up taxi below and sighs as Danny and Baez walk over.
"Captain." Baez said and Miranda looks at them.
"What are you doing here?" Danny asked.
"Your vic was my prime witness on a case." Miranda said.
"What case?" Baez asked.
"A case that I will tell you in my office since the brass just showed up."
"Oh boy. If they're here, that means either they want us to keep quiet." Danny said as Nick walks over.
"Or solve this case as fast as possible. What do you got?" She asked Nick.
"Her laptop and cell phone. Check this out." Miranda takes the phone and reads the text.
"Who's the sender?" Baez asked.
"Amanda Harris." Miranda said.
"Wait, Erin's boss at the DA's office?" Danny asked.
"My office. You three. Now." They walk outside and Miranda walks to a patrol officer.
"Officer Baker." He looks at her and Miranda is trying to picture where she has seen that face before.
"Captain." He said.
"I want the perimeter backed up as far as you can and get the looky loos out of here if you can." She said.
"Yes ma'am."
Miranda closes the door after the three detectives walk into the room and she walks to her desk to pick up a file.
"Do you mind telling me what the hell is going on?" Danny asked and Miranda places the file down onto the table to let the detectives read it.
"You're investigating Amanda Harris and the Chief of Police?" Nick asked.
"I am on the Commissioner's orders." She said.
"You sure you don't work for IAB? Because all of these cases that you have done, seems rat like to me." Danny said.
"Your father asked me to do this because he doesn't trust anyone in IAB, alright? And before you open your trap again Detective, Erin knows about this." Miranda looks at her phone to see a text from Garrett.
"And I got called into the Superintendent's office." She said.
"My father?" Danny asked.
"Yeah. For now...treat this case as normal as possible. And play nicely with each other." Miranda heads out.
Frank sighs as he looks out his window as Miranda is walking into the room.
"What do you have?" Frank asked then looks at her.
"That Dino is trying to keep the jumping quiet, but I have evidence that proves Amanda Harris threatening Irene Clayton. I was on my way to pick Miss Clayton up this morning when she jumped." Miranda said then looks at her phone and answers the call.
"What's up?" Miranda asked.
"The Chief just put you and Danny on modified." Nick said.
"What?!"
"He knows the jig is up."
"Alright, I'm with the boss now. I'll tell him. Hey Nick?"
"Yeah."
"There's a hotel that Irene sends her girls. I had one of the rooms bugged. Get that tape and bring it to One PP. Pronto."
"On it." Miranda hangs up the phone.
"Dino is now trying to save his ass since he knows the jig is up on him." She said to the Commissioner.
"What did he do?" Frank asked.
"Placed myself and Detective Reagan on modified." He sighs then sits down at his desk.
"I will change that."
"Sir? Can I ask a question?" She asked.
"Of course." He said as he looks at her.
"Why me? I mean, I am one of the youngest commanding officers in the NYPD, detective ranked. But if his is for something that you owe my grandfather for -"
"No. I asked you because I know how dedicated you are at the job and throws off suspicion of Danny. Once in a while. And this is a test."
"For what?" She asked.
"Promotions are coming up and you are at the top of the list to be promoted to a chief."
"Sir, I was just promoted to captain."
"Three years ago when you took down the Blue Templar. When I heard that you were interested in coming back to New York from your grandfather, I helped with the transfer to get you here. Do you know why?" He asked.
"I don't." She said.
"Because I knew that you were in love with Erin and Erin was in love with you. So did my wife."
"What?"
"After the honeymoon, Erin came clean about the relationship that you two had. Can't say that I was surprised, but I knew that it was only a matter of time before Erin and Jack's marriage wouldn't last."
"Because he's a dumb ass?" He chuckles.
"Partly. I knew it wasn't going to work the day I met you when Erin brought you to Sunday dinner during your freshman year. The look you two shared that day...it's a look that I see now when I see you two together at the dinner table." He said.
The following night, Miranda is outside the Commissioner's office as he is talking to Dino when Danny and Erin join her.
"Hey Baker? I have a question for you and this could be a weird one." Miranda said.
"Yes?" She asked.
"Where was your husband born?"
"Boston. His Dad played professional basketball."
"Thank you." Miranda crosses her arms.
"And what was for?" Erin asked.
"I'll explain later." Erin nods.
"Send them in." They hear and they walk into the office.
"I took the liberty to restore Detective Reagan and Captain Hill to full duty. Captain Hill will take your ID, your weapon and your shield then you will give your honest and truthful statement to Detective Reagan and ADA Reagan." Frank said as Miranda is slightly in front of Erin to protect her in case Dino starts retaliating.
"Will there be any charges?" Dino asked.
"The DA will be filing criminal charges against you and will try the case himself." Erin said as Miranda grabs Dino's service weapon, shield and ID.
"I have three of my detectives arresting Amanda Harris as we speak. Along with everyone in Irene Clayton's black book." Miranda said to Frank.
"Let's go." Danny said to Dino and he, Erin and Dino walk into the conference room.
"Thank you, Captain." Frank said.
"You're welcome. And I'm sorry for taking this long. I wanted to have solid evidence." She said.
"I understand." Miranda walks to the door.
"Captain?" He asked and she looks at him.
"The Chief of Police is yours if you want it. Talk to Erin and the girls." He said.
"Yes sir." She said.
On Sunday, Miranda is pouring the mashed potatoes into the bowl when Heather walks into the room.
"Mom?" Heather asked and Miranda looks up to see Heather and a guy standing there.
"This is Christian McCaffrey." Heather said and Miranda wipes her hands on a towel.
"So, this is the boy that is making my daughter happy." Miranda said and they shake hands.
"It's nice to meet you, ma'am. Now I know where Heather gets her good looks from." He said.
"You get brownie points for that. And don't call me ma'am. Miranda is fine. I hear ma'am all the time at work."
"Who's that?" Jamie asked as the guys look into the kitchen.
"No way. That's Christian McCaffrey." Jack said.
"Awesome." Sean said.
"The running back from Stanford?" Danny asked.
"I got my eye on him." Frank said.
"Dad, don't scare him off." Erin said then kisses his cheek before walking into the kitchen.
"Erin, this is Christian." Heather said.
"It's nice to meet you." Erin said as she shakes his hand.
"You too, ma'am. I'm sorry for coming here unannounced." He said.
"Don't worry about it. We usually make enough food to feed an entire squad room of NYPD officers."
"Should I be worried about them?" He points behind him and Erin sees the men quickly looking away.
"Yes." She, Miranda and Heather said at the same time and he loudly gulps.
"I will be on my best behavior then." He said nervously as he fixes his tie.
"You are going to be fine, Christian. Whatever you do, don't hurt my little girl because there are five cops in this house." Miranda said and he nods.
"Stop scaring him, Mom. Please?" Heather asked.
"I'm done for today."
"Heather, start bringing food out to the table." Erin said and Heather does with Christian helping her.
"Stop worrying about him." Erin said softly to her fiancee and kisses her cheek.
"Who says I'm worried about him? I'm worried about her." Miranda said softly.
"She is happy."
"I know and the way that they look at each other...it's only a matter of time before he's going to ask me permission to marry her. Not to mention that if they break up, she's going to be crushed. Then I will send in the cavalry if that happens." Erin chuckles.
After the police graduation ceremony, Miranda walks outside with Frank and over to the family.
"So, Erin and I are off to the Hamptons with the girls and Christian to finish everything and making sure that everything is going smoothly before Saturday." Miranda said.
"I will be there on Thursday." Frank said.
Erin looks at Miranda driving as Nicky, Christian and Heather are in the back, sleeping. She feels Miranda's fingers on her thigh, tapping a rhythm to the music from the radio.
"What's on your mind sweetie?" Erin asked.
"Your Dad offered me the Chief of Police position." Miranda said softly.
"Wow. Did he say why?"
"I'm the only one he trusts from the rank of captain up. It would mean better pension, more benefits than what I get now. Also, I would be home at nights unless a crisis occurred. He wanted me to talk to you about it before making a decision." Miranda glances over at Erin then looks back out to the road.
"But you would have a ton of backlash from the media and your fellow officers as well." Erin said softly.
"I know. I don't have to make a decision right now, but one will have to be made soon." Miranda said softly as Heather sits up and is the middle of the seats with her arms on each seat.
"Do you know what I think?" Heather asked softly, scaring Erin in the process and making Miranda giggle.
"Jesus! I thought you were sleeping?" Erin asked.
"I was. Until about five minutes ago."
"What is it?" Miranda asked softly.
"I think you should be the ultimate decider on this, Mom. I mean, we'll give you our take on the job offer, but ultimately, it's your decision." Heather said softly.
"It is my final decision, but I want to make sure that you guys will be ok with it."
Miranda paces in the living room of the house in the Hamptons then grabs her phone and calls a familiar person.
"I'm really surprised that you are calling me."
"I just wanted to confirm that you will be watching Heather starting on Sunday after dinner, Maura."
"I will be." Maura said as she leans back in her office chair.
"Her boyfriend is in town for the wedding and I think he's leaving on Sunday to head back to California."
"Ok."
"I um...I wanted to make sure that you're ok with me getting married. I know that your mother pushed me to ask you to marry me, but I just wanted to see if you were ok." Miranda doesn't see Erin leaning against the door frame from the kitchen to the living room.
"I'm ok. I mean, it's hard to not think about our past that we had and how we planned on having another child." Maura said as she looks at the picture of her, Heather and Miranda when Heather was eight.
"I know and then Hoyt happened. Erin will never replace the relationship you and Heather have. But she will be a big part in our daughter's life."
"I know. It's going to be an adjustment, but I think we can all agree that all three of us will be making decisions for Heather. At least until she is eighteen in a few weeks."
"Don't remind me. She leaves for college next year and I'm not ready for that."
"If I didn't tell you before, I will now. Congratulations on the wedding."
"Thank you. I'll see you after my honeymoon." Miranda hangs up the phone and sighs then looks at Erin.
"You ok?" Erin asked as she walks over to her.
"Yeah."
Erin and Miranda kiss a few times Friday after their wedding rehearsal dinner then they tightly hug.
"I don't want to be away from you." Miranda said softly as she looks at Erin.
"Just think. This time tomorrow, we'll be married." Miranda slowly smiles.
"I love you."
"I love you too." They kiss again then Nicky pulls Erin away as Miranda heads inside the house while Erin is at a rental house next door. Fifteen minutes later, Erin would sneak into the bedroom to spend the night with Miranda.
