"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage."
Chapter 33: Bundle of Joy.
"The babies Kuon, they are coming."
"What?"
In this state they never saw Shoutaro aim at Kyoko with his knife nor did they saw the fast approaching figures as one of them shielded them from the blow.
Yukihito was so damn thankful that they had arrived in time or else God knows what could have happened. The only thing before entering the clearing had he seen was Kyoko crying as Kuon tried to comfort her while Shoutaro attacked them with the intention to kill evident in his actions.
His knife was aimed straight at Kyoko's stomach and if he hadn't interfered things would have turned horribly wrong.
Now several of his man held Shoutaro down while he kept on shouting that it was not over and he would have his revenge. "This is not the end Kyoko. You bitch I will make you pay for everything."
"Don't be so hasty Shoutaro." Kanae smiled sweetly as she moved out of the shadows. "Of course I agree that this is not over." she said grabbing the knife which had been knocked out of his hand and trailed it along his right cheek, his eyes widened in fear and all of his ranting and shouting abruptly stopped.
"What do you think you are trying to do." His voice was laced with fear, eyes wide open as he saw the wicked gleam in her eyes.
Never once taking her eyes off of him she smiled, "Kuon take Kyoko to the castle, she needs to be seen by the doctor immediately. Ruka go along with them, I will see that Shoutaro understands what he has done and how he will be rewarded for all of his schemes." Hearing the threat in her voice along with that sickeningly sweet smile on her face Shoutaro tried to break free but to no avail.
"Now Now to need to be so hasty." Kanae replied pressing the knife a little harder, "You have a lot to answer for and I don't leave things unfinished unlike you."
Understanding that Kyoko was in need of a doctor and Kanae in need of revenge for her sister Kuon silently hefted Kyoko into his arms and started walking toward the awaiting carriage. Seeing the fight just a few minutes earlier and the intimidating presence of the tall figure in front of him the driver started backing away in fear yet only a single look from Kuon had him stopping dead in his tracks.
"Your decision this moment will decide how you will be dealt with for being an accomplice in this crime." Silently nodding the driver came forward and settling himself gave the reins a flick indicating that he was helping.
Ruka entered the carriage and helped Kyoko settle amidst her moans and protests as comfortably as she could.
"Your Majesty!" The driver bowed awkwardly as he was sitting, "I'm so sorry, I had no choice but to do as the man bid me, I'm so sorry that I couldn't help her majesty." A single glare from Kuon was enough to spring the driver into action and cease his insane chatter. Kuon took his seat inside the carriage placing her head on his lap, wiping sweat off Kyoko's forehead he murmured into her ear that everything will be fine.
"I believed that you will save me Kuon." As another bout of pain raced her frame she let out a painful moan.
Seeing that she was in so much pain because of his inability to save her yet still the faith she had in him bought tears to his eyes, not even bothering to hide them he just hung his head, "I'm sorry for everything love." In return she just squeezed his hand. "Now that everything is over lets welcome our children into the world."
Silently nodding he acknowledged her words unable to form any words in the face of her struggle and pain. After that she was unable to say anything as pain shot through her, for the rest of the journey her screams could be heard far far away.
The journey back home was hell. The only thing he could do was hold her and try to soothe her pain but so far nothing was working as her screams were just getting louder and louder, though Ruka tried to assure him that everything was okay he could see the signs of anxiety on her face and sense that something was not right.
Kyoko was getting paler and paler and he kept thinking that everything was his fault. If only he had protected her and kept her safe from all and everything she wouldn't be here screaming in pain.
After what felt like eternity they finally reached the castle and as soon as the carriage stopped he jumped out and gave order to bring the physician as soon as possible. As gently as possible he helped Kyoko out of the carriage and led her inside their chambers, Ruka trailing behind them.
It was only moments later that queen Julie came charging into the room as a horrified gasp escaped her as soon as she took in Kyoko's condition. "Oh my God!"
"Where is the physician?" he asked turning toward her mother.
"She's coming." Julie replied taking her seat beside Kyoko. She smiled looking down at her daughter, "How are you dear?"
"Getting by somehow." Kyoko tried to smile but it became a grimace as another wave of pain hit her.
A few moments more and the physician came rushing inside. "What took you so long?" Kuon asked in a rush. Completely ignoring him she came to stand beside Kyoko, taking in her condition she smiled and said, "The royal heirs look quite impatient to me."
That made Kyoko smile. "Just like their father I tell you."
The physician chuckled. "I'm Daphne. Nice to meet you her majesty."
"Wish I could say that I feel anything close to nice."
"Soon you will."
Giving Kyoko one last smile she turned towards Kuon with a somber expression. "Your majesty." she curtsied, "I need you to leave this room right now."
"No, you don't."
"Yes I do and if you don't want your wife to be in more agony because of the way you are behaving you will want to leave as well."
The glare he gave her could have killed someone but she was not fazed at all. Turning toward Kyoko he could see that she was in a lot of pain and he decided that he has been away long enough and will not leave the love of his life to deal with this pain alone. Grabbing his wife's had he looked the physician square in the eyes he told her that he was not going to leave.
As another strong shriek resonated around them, Daphne shook her head. "Very well, as you see fit your majesty."
After that the room was a flurry of movements as the doctor went to complete her assigned task 'The birth of royal heirs' Amidst all of the pain filled shouts, cursing, encouragement and some grunting from Kuon when Kyoko held his hand in a death like grip finally a shill crying broke the tension in the room as the first child made its presence known.
Only after a moments respite another shriek was torn out of Kyoko as the second child made its way into the world. Quickly wrapping the little bundle of joy in a blanket the doctor handed the baby to queen Julies waiting hands and after a few moments she was holding the second child.
Kuon who had been in a daze since he first heard his child cry finally broke out of his thoughts when he heard another voice join the crying and looked down at Kyoko who seemed pale but her eyes were shining with tears. Squeezing her hand lightly he waited while she turned to look at him and then smiling down at her told her, "You did it love."
As two small bodies were pressed to both of her sides her mother exclaimed, "Oh dear we have a darling boy and cute girl and both of them are such beautiful children Kyoko." tears shinning in her eyes she came around and hugged Kuon tightly. "I'm so happy for you Kuon."
After declaring that both the children and their mother was perfectly healthy, a little rest will make Kyoko recover and congratulating both of the new parents both Ruka and the doctor left them alone. Julie stayed squealing and gushing over the children while Kuon stood holding his wife's hand but noticing that the two of them needed to be alone and Kyoko needed rest she left.
"You better rest because I'm sure that everyone will be dying to meet the children as soon as they are back."
As soon as everyone left Kyoko turned her head to look at husband who was fondly staring at their children who were sleeping fondly. "Won't you come and lie down with us Kuon?" Nodding he picked up the little girl in his arms a little scared, as she made a little mewling sound he cradled her a little more closely making shushing sound as he lay beside Kyoko holding her by the shoulder.
Sighing contently she rested her head on his head, cuddling her son closer to her. They stayed in a companionable silence like that for a while as no words were needed right now, everything could be discussed after they lived in this moment. As sleep finally came to them, snuggling closer to Kuon Kyoko whispered, "We did it Kuon."
