Chapter 31: Proving the innocent.

In the vampire society...

"The council of ancients want Zero dead!? Is this organization going to stay silent and just watch?" exclaimed Toga as he slammed his hands on the desk of the head of the vampire society, Vampire Senate.

"A Pureblood may have been killed by another party, but Zero was present as the event had occurred, there are many ways of saying the matter."

"That 'Pureblood' was long-listed on our kill list, but why wasn't Zero proven innocent without any solid proof?"

The elder vampire sighed, "Yagari, how can we put an end to a serious matter such as the murder of a Pureblood? There is no such 'system' in the vampire's society."

Back to Zero, Yuki and Mochi ...

The formally dressed assassin pushed his glasses back carefully with one his long like nails. "We take pride in our duty to protect the Pureblood nobles of the council of ancients. However, you managed to escape our eyes and get your hands on Shizuka-sama. As far as we are concerned, Purebloods are a very sacred existence and anyone who inflects as much as a small cut on any one of them should be expected to be executed, which means you, Zero Kiryu. This serious crime can only be paid with your mortal life."

Zero eyes widen slightly, while Mochi's narrowed warningly at the sudden announcement.

The assassin smiled sadistically, "However, that is a 'cheap' bargain don't you agree?"

Zero clicked his tongue in annoyance as started using his full strength and crushed the vampire assassin's hand with a sickening crunch. Before he pushed Yuki further away from him, while Mochi now stood beside Zero in defence position which was taught by the male hunter.

The assassin hissed in pain as he tried to support his broken hand. "You dare to break the bones of a vampire?!" yelled the assassin as he started run closed to strike at Zero, but before he could land a strike on the silverette. A wave of feathers was suddenly sent towards the assassin. The vampire was able to dodge the attack by an inch, the soft like feathers was stuck deep in the trunk of a nearby tree causing the man to break into a cold sweat at the near-death experience.

Zero smiled proudly and placed a hand on his hip. "Good shoot sweetie, but I think some practice could do you some good." The silverette walked up and carried the dragon in his arms, before directing his cold gaze at the vampire.

"It's too bad...that there is no such thing as a 'cheap' bargain here..."

The assassin smirked, "Even if you defeated me, you cannot escape. We said we will have you executed. That is your fate..." said the vampire, as three more assassins walked out of the shadows.

"Tsk. Oi, Yuki grab Mochi and get out of here, there is too many of them. Just leave." Zero warned as he tossed into the female hunter's arms. Yuki shook her head and got into a defence position. "I can't do that!" she replied stubbornly.

Another one of the assassins started to charge at the trio before a pain suddenly pierced through his chest, he let out a cry in pain after slowly crumbling to dust.

"W-what?!" exclaimed another assassin, as it seemed that the whole of the Night class students has surrounded the group. Shiki sighs tiredly as he was the first strike and retracted his blood wipes towards him.

"The council of ancients have dared to send nobles to this school. Now, they intend hunt down Kiryu-kun..." Spoke Kaname coldly as he stepped out to the opening. The vampire assassins started trembling in fear as they fell to their knees and kneeled.

"Ku-Kuran Kaname sama!" they shouted in unison. Kaname chuckled slightly that their display and continued to speak. "However, the Pureblood's sacredness is only for the sake of protection. Why must Kiryu-kun be executed?"

"K-Kaname-sama, if a Pureblood such as yourself stand it our way, we will be unable to fulfil our duties. We would like for you and your honourable friends to leave. " explained one of the assassins.

Kaname's facial expression grew even colder as he slowly walked up towards Mochi and carried her towards Zero.

"I thought that I made special efforts to warn against the dishonouring of the Academy from any foolish behaviour, even from the dogs of the council of ancients." Once Kaname passed the purring Mochi back to Zero's arms, he protectively covered Mochi's eyes. As he shot the assassin's shoulder clean off with an invisible force, Yuki grips onto Zero's jacket in shock, while Zero blocked Mochi's ears.

Bang!

"I will not repeat myself. Disappear," commanded Kaname.

Immediately the remaining vampire assassins picked themselves up and disappeared into thin air. Once they were gone, Kaname and Zero eye's meet and started glaring at each other. Well...mostly Zero, while the Pureblood gave the sliverette a closed-eyed smile and turned to face Yuki.

"Will you be alright?" asked Kaname in concern, while he removed he hand over the dragon's eyes.

"It isn't good that Zero is their objective for their break-in, Kaname-senpai..." replied Yuki.

"There is nothing to worry about Yuki, I understand..." said Kaname, as he brought a hand and gently cherished a few strands of her hair.

"What are your intentions Kaname Kuran..." interrupted Zero, while Mochi continued making chirping noises towards the Pureblood.

Kaname smiled slightly at the unusually warm sight and gave the now flustered sliverette a quick kiss on the cheek and the happy dragon child a pat on the head.

"It's just a matter that I happen to overlook on, that's all...have a wonderful evening," said Kaname, before disappearing back into the shadows along with the rest of the Night class.
