A/N: Finally a new chapter after 7 months. And we are just a few chapters (maybe) away from the ending!
Rorke walked back out into the living room where Liz and Elliott were. When Elliott say him coming towards them he hung on to Liz's neck tighter and hid his head in the crook of her neck. She rubbed up and down his back to calm him.
"It's okay sweetheart your dad didn't mean to hit me."
She looked up at Rorke for a brief moment and sighed, knowing what she said was a big fat lie. He did mean to hit her because she was the one that started it, if she didn't hit him first she wouldn't have gotten a slap across the face and Elliott wouldn't have seen it.
"That's right bud, I didn't mean to. Do you mean to hit your brother when you get mad at him or annoyed?"
Elliott lifted his head up off from her shoulders to look at him. "No."
"See." He held his arms out for him and Elliott obliged. "Sometimes our anger gets the better of us and we do things we shouldn't."
"Like hitting someone?"
"Like hitting someone."
"Will you hit mommy again?"
Elliott looked up at him with sad eyes and fiddled with his shirt. It made Rorke's heart slightly break, he didn't mean to scare his own son like that and knew he needed to find a better way to curb his anger.
"No I won't, I promise."
"Okay good. I don't like it when you hit her."
Rorke set him back on the ground and crouched down to his height. "I promise I will not hit her ever again. Now why don't you go play while we wait for your brother to wake up and then we'll head to the park."
"Okay." His face lit up and then he ran to his playroom.
Liz watched him go and sat back down on the couch with a sigh. "I'm sorry ...for everything. Maybe if I was a better person…. A better wife things would be different."
He looked over at her, seeing the broken look on her face as she looked down at her hands. He's never seen her this broken before, even when they lost their first child to that miscarriage she wasn't as broken as she was now. And in a way it pulled at his heart.
"You're not a bad person nor were you a bad wife. Yes you have your flaws but I wouldn't call you bad."
He walked over and sat down in his armchair and she finally looked up at him with glistening eyes. "Then what did I do to make you not love me?"
His voice got caught in his throat and his heart started to pound in his chest. They've spent nearly a decade together, have done speechless things together and they've built a family together. Now he needed to tell her why he doesn't love her and he's not sure if he can.
"I'm not capable of it, don't think I ever have been. I couldn't live that lie anymore."
"I wished you told me from the beginning, before I fell head over heels in love with you and thought you loved me too. I would've been fine if you couldn't fully love me like I did to you because at least I knew you cared to a point. We would've still had the children and lived a decent life, we just wouldn't have been married." She wiped the tears from her eyes and sighed. "But you lied about that, even after knowing love was a touchy subject for me. And I can't forgive that so, I'll keep my part of the deal, I'll still warm your bed whenever and bare you more children if that happens. I just want you to stop lying to me."
"I know I shouldn't have lied to you." He leaned back in his chair, glancing over to the playroom where Elliott was and then back to her. "And I'm sorry I did. I just couldn't take the risk."
"What risk? That I would try and leave if I found out?"
"Yes."
Liz sighed through her nose and moved closer to him. "I wouldn't have left if I found out the truth. Yes it would've taken me some time to get used to it, but I never lied about how I felt once I joined the Federation. Now I'm just confused and unsure."
"Unsure about what?"
"About my spot in the Federation. My feelings. I feel like I'm back to being fourteen years old again and the war just started, only this time I at least have a meaning in life and that's taking care of our kids."
"Your spot hasn't changed Liz." He sat up and leaned closer to her. "I wish I could help you figure out your feeling but I can't."
"I wasn't asking you too, I just wish things would be different but I know they won't be. Maybe I've lived on this Earth for far too long."
She got up after that and went upstairs to check on Sadie, leaving Rorke downstairs to watch their son. He didn't like what she said and that made him worry. Is Liz even capable of taking her own life? That wasn't something he wanted to find out.
He got up from his seat and walked over to the playroom. "Elliott I need to go upstairs for a moment, if you need me just yell."
Elliott looked up at him and nodded his head, then Rorke went up stairs.
He found Liz leaning over Sadie's crib watching her sleep and he let out a relieved sigh. Then he shook his head at the thought of her ending her own life in the matter of a minute, knowing there wasn't a gun in the home. He walked over to her and stood in front of her.
"Can we talk?"
She sighed and followed him out of the room into the hallway. "About what?"
"About what you said."
She scoffed and rolled her eyes. "I'm not gonna end my life if that's what you're thinking."
"You sure sounded like you were Liz." He looked down at her and crossed his arms, sighing through his nose. "I don't want to be a single father."
She looked up at him in disbelief and shrugged her shoulders. "Afraid I'll make you a single father? Of course you would, you've barely spent enough time with them as it is."
"Liz." He warned.
"What? I can't speak my mind? I've been by your side for seven fucking years, I've tortured for you, killed for you, betrayed my own family for you and have bared you children. And it was all for nothing. You get everything you want, while I suffer. But why would you care? This was your plan all along."
"Maybe you should've thought about that before you decided to spread your legs for me." He uncrossed his arms and placed his thumb on the dip of her chin. "You were using sex as a distraction for how scared you really were and for attention. No one cares for you Liz, better get used to it."
Tears started to well in her eyes and she forced his hand off her face, pushing him to the side and walked back down stairs. She wanted to cry and run away, thinking being out on her own would be a better outcome. But she wouldn't get out of the city before someone spotted her or captured her, and she has her kids to worry about.
She plopped herself down on the couch, looking over at Elliott playing with his toys. Taking in a deep breath, she knew any choice she made would end in her death either way. She could stay with Rorke and blow her brains out, try and leave the city and hope she's not caught or go back to her family like she planned. At least there her death would be quick and she could help the Ghosts win this war once and for all.
As she exhaled a breath, she knew what she had to do. For herself and her children.
xXx
Later that day Rorke took the twins to the park and Liz was home with Sadie. While she was playing on the floor with her toys she thought it'd be a good time to call Logan and see what the verdict was. Hoping for some good news.
Liz sat down on the floor, near Sadie and called Logan. The phone didn't ring long before he answered it.
"Everything alright? You seemed scared when he Rorke came home."
She took a heavy sigh and crossed her legs. "Everything is not alright. I spent seven years with him Logan, I've tortured for him, killed for him. Betrayed my own family for him and bared him children and it was all for nothing. He saw right through my facade."
"I'm so sorry Liz. What facade?"
"That I used sex as a coping mechanism for how depressed I really was and for attention. So he used it against me." She leaned back against the couch and stretched her legs out. "What did Merrick say?"
Logan let out a heavy sigh on the other line and that made her heart beat faster.
"He doesn't trust you but he agreed to it. When is a good time to come get you?"
She let out a breath and sunk into the couch with relief, she didn't care that Merrick didn't trust, all she cared about was getting out.
"If I was him I wouldn't trust me either. Rorke has a work thing in two days, he'll be gone for a few days for it. Be the perfect time."
"Okay, I'll tell Merrick and Hesh later. Uh Liz? Can I ask you something?"
"Go for it."
She took a deep breath, wondering what it was he wanted to ask.
"Why did you join the Federation?"
"I wasn't going too." She took another deep breath and sat up more, crossing her legs underneath her. "I was only gonna use Rorke as a means to an end but then my feelings for him changed and I fell, and fell hard. It felt nice to know I wasn't alone, that dad didn't just wrong me, but Rorke too. He used it against me and now I'm...here."
Logan was quiet on the other line and that made her worry.
"I'm sorry for everything I've done. I know I wasn't the best sister, or daughter. I was selfish and didn't have a care in the world because I didn't think you guys cared about me. Dad only cared about you and Hesh and what you were doing within the Army and me. I was a scared teen who didn't have the one person she needed the most." She wiped the tears from her eyes and let out a shaky breath. "I have a lot of regrets and I think I've lived in this world for far too long."
"Liz…."
"Logan we both know I'm not gonna survive. I'm a traitor, but giving Merrick and the Ghosts what they need to take the Federation and Rorke down once and for all will be worth it. At least there I'll get a quick death."
There was a silence on Logan's end, probably contemplating what she said. Not a moment later he finally spoke again.
"I'm sorry our family gave up on you, I'm sorry I gave up on you. So much happened when we were teens, the war starting, Hesh and I joined the Army and you started to act like a brat and kept getting into trouble. No one thought it was a cry for help at that time, then you went missing. And suddenly we all cared again."
"I wish I could accept your apology, I want to but I can't. The people I needed the most just threw me to the side and look where it got me." She wiped the tears from her eyes with the back of her hand and let out a breath. "You think people care about you and then you find out they don't. I'm done with this life Logan, I'll tell Merrick all I know, go in front of JSOC and pray I get the death penalty."
"I understand. We all have a lot of sins to atone for in time. What about the children?"
"I want you to take them, treat them better than how you treated me."
Liz sighed at the thought of that, not raising her kids. How could she though if she's six feet underground? Besides she would rather have them with Logan than with the Federation who would mold them into weapons and she definitely couldn't have that.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I don't want them being raised by the Federation, they'll turn them into weapons."
"Okay. I promise I'll do my best to raise them right...and in your honor."
"Thank you. I should get going Rorke should be home soon and I need to start dinner."
"It's the least I can do. And okay, hopefully we'll see you in a few days and call if anything changes."
"Yeah, it is and okay I will."
Before he could say anything she hung up the phone and placed it on the couch, smiling over at Sadie. She stood up and picked the little one up and kissed her head. "Let's start dinner."
She walked into the kitchen, placing Sadie in her high chair then went to get her a small snack to occupy herself while she cooked.
Liz decided on chicken parmesan tonight for dinner, plus Cooper really wanted it as well since it was one of his favorite dishes and she couldn't say no to those big brown eyes of his as he said 'please'.
She grabbed everything she needed from the fridge and cupboards, placing them on the counter, then went to get a baking tray. As soon as she put it on the stove she heard the door open and not a second later Elliott and Cooper came running in.
"Hi mommy." They said in unison.
"Hi, did you have fun at the park?"
Rorke followed behind and she moved out of the way to let him get into the fridge, pulling out a few juice boxes for the boys.
"Yeah, daddy helped us with the monkey bars and we went all the way to the other side."
"You did? Wow, I'm proud of you guys!"
"Thanks mommy."
They both ran over and gave her a hug and she hugged them back. A small, proud smile spreading across her face.
"There's juice on the coffee table for you boys." said Rorke from the living room.
The boys ran to the living room while Rorke walked back into the kitchen, grabbing himself a bottle of water and leaned against the counter. "You're making dinner earlier than usual."
"I'd figured since you took the boys pretty later and were gone a few hours they'd get tired earlier than usual." She looked over at him and shrugged her shoulders. "Besides it's not that much earlier."
"Mmm." He took a sip of his water and set it down on the counter and walked over to her. Placing his hand on her lower back, he went under the band of sweats and panties and slid his hand over her ass.
"What are you doing?" She gasped as she felt two fingers enter her, but didn't move as to alert the boys who were playing in the next room. "Gabe stop, please!"
"What does it look like I'm doing?" He pumped his fingers slowly in and out of her. "Why? They can't see what I'm doing."
She sighed in defeat, letting him do whatever he wanted because she didn't want a repeat of earlier and went back to prepping dinner.
Luckily a moment later he pulled his fingers free, grabbed his water and left the kitchen, making her sigh in relief. If the kids weren't twenty feet away she know he would have pulled her pants down to her thighs and fucked her right in the kitchen, not caring what she was doing.
As Liz made dinner she couldn't help but reflect on her life in the past seven years and how much it has changed since the beginning. She thought she was an equal in Rorke's eyes, but that couldn't have been farther from the truth, she was just a means to an end for him. An ass to fuck whenever he wanted and a way to forward the Rorke line. Now she's stuck here, hopefully not for much longer.
After getting everything ready she put it in the oven and went to grab Sadie from her high chair and head back into the living room where she placed her back on the floor with her toys and sat down on the couch herself.
Rorke was sitting in his usual spot looking through his phone, or reading about plans for the upcoming mission he had in a few days, either way she couldn't wait for him to be gone and for her to be gone too.
He sighed and put his phone back in his pants pocket and glanced over to her. "I see you've called Logan a few times."
"Yeah I figured it'd be best to call before he begins to worry and does something stupid like come down here." She met his gaze, exhaling a breath. "Don't worry I haven't said anything."
"I know you haven't because if you did he would be here by now, probably trying to take me down." He chuckled at the thought of that. "Like he could."
"It must feel nice to feel invincible, knowing everyone who tries to kill you will lose."
She looked away from him and down at her hands, wishing she felt like that. How nice it would feel knowing no one could kill her, or die trying, just how everyone did when they went up against Rorke. It didn't take long for her to know that the saying 'a man with nothing to lose is a man to be feared' was true. But now he does have something to lose, the children. Only it made him more fierce, more scary and she didn't like that.
"I'm not invincible, everyone else is just stupid." He glanced down her body, licking his lips. "I'm sure you'd like to give it a shot, see if you could win against me."
"Not really because I know I'll lose and you'll make it worse. I'd rather just have you bend me over the nearest table and take me."
"Oh I would if the kids weren't here right now, trust me."
Liz sat back on the couch, bringing her knees up to her chest and hugged them. Ever since she found out the truth Rorke seemed to be more hostile and horny towards her, like all he cared about was getting his dick wet. He no longer cared at all about her and she wished she knew what she did to make him feel that way.
"Ever since that night I found out the truth you've become a lot more hostile towards me and all you seem to care about is having sex. It just seems like you hate me now."
"Liz if I could go back to the day we captured you, I would've put you in that hole in the ground to rot. And then I would've broken you in nice and hard. At least I wouldn't have to hear you nagging about why I don't care or love you anymore. Like I ever did."
"No one does, I get it. Why would anyone care about someone who's selfish, stubborn, quite a bitch?" She sighed through her nose and hung her head between her knees. "I wish you did, maybe life would be easier right now."
"I would've made your life worse, and blamed it on your father."
"Of course you would have" She lifted her head up and glared over at him. "Because you're a gruel asshole." When she saw him move she moved closer to the corner of the couch. "I'm sorry."
He didn't say anything, all he did was scoff and leave the room. Liz let out a relieved breath and sunk back into the couch. She knew as long as she opens her mouth to retort, things could turn bad. But a part of her couldn't help it, she never shied away from how she felt. Now she's gonna have to learn or her life might get worse than it already is.
xXx
It was the middle of the night and Liz was down in the kitchen having a cup of tea. There was a slight ache between her legs since Rorke was less than passionate during their little encounter earlier, she wasn't surprised about his roughness she knew that would be his payback for earlier.
She could hear footsteps coming down the stairs and she sighed through her nose when she saw Rorke make an appearance.
As he walked into the kitchen he glanced over at her. "What are you doing up?"
"Couldn't sleep." She took a sip of her tea and placed it back down on the table. "What are you doing up?"
"I just am." He shrugged his shoulders and went into the cabinet to grab a cup and get some water. Then walked over and sat down across from her. "I'm sure you're sore from earlier."
She scoffed and rolled her eyes. "All because of you."
"I know it's because of me, maybe next time you'll learn to have more discipline when you speak to me. And maybe you won't get fucked like a little harlot."
"Maybe you won't get fucked at all you piece of shit." She got up from her seat with her cup, only to have him grab her arm in a rough hold. "Let me go."
He glared up at her, hand tightening around her arm. "Watch it Liz or you'll be a lot more than sore come morning."
She yanked her arm free, tears started to well in her eyes. "Give me to the men because I'm done. With you, with this life, with everything."
He narrowed his brows into a thin line, lips pursed. "Alright then. Didn't think you would abandon the kids, guess I was wrong. They'll be better off without you anyway."
"You sonofabitch."
Rorke tasted a hint of metallic on his tongue and his cheek throbbed. Before Liz could say or do anything she felt a fist to her face knocking her down to the floor, glass shattering from her tea cup and spilling onto the floor.
He was on top of her second later, pinning her arms above her head. "I should just kill you myself, not let JSOCs do it."
Her eyes widened when he said that, and a sick feeling started to show itself in her stomach. Could he know about what she was planning with her family and the Ghosts? No, he couldn't, could he?
"What? Did you think I didn't know about the little plan you had going on with your brother and Merrick? How you were gonna take the kids, my kids with you and tell him everything they need to know to take the Federation down? That's not gonna happen."
She sighed in defeat and looked away from him, tears slowly sliding down her temples. Just one more thing to go wrong. "So what now? I'm a traitor here too and I know what happens to them."
He let go of her wrists and stood up, going over to the sink to grab a towel and get it wet to clean up his lip. Liz, however stayed on the floor, ignoring the pain in her jaw.
"You're gonna die either way, so why not make it tomorrow night."
Her voice got caught in her throat and her heart was beating out of her chest. This was it, her life was going to end at the hands of Gabriel Rorke. A man she once loved and thought loved her back too. She betrayed her country and her family for him, and now things were coming to an end all by his hands. Maybe that's how it was supposed to be all along, a beautiful tragedy.
