The night in Paris was glittering, the air filled with romance and there they were, sitting accross the view of Eiffel Tower. Alec was holding the hand of the other person keeping them closer together. Not much exchange words, just savoring the moment they had now.

Alec had been pretty busy since their last date. Though they promised to visit lot of places but the works always got in their way especially lately as if neverending cases had been sended to the Institute. Not to mention the frequent visit of his mother. Alec sighed without realize it.

"Are you okay? You look tired. Shouldn't have to bring you here tonight. You need rest."

"I'm okay. It's just lately we rarely have time together. I miss you. "

" It can't be helped. You and I have position that requires lot attention. It's not that bad. I do miss you too but we can always run away once in a while like this right? "

They conversation was interrupted by a phone call. Alec sighed heavily at Magnus who signalled him to answer the phone.

" What is it, Izzy? "

" I'm sorry interrupting you date but our Mother called for an urgent meeting. You have to go back to the institute now. "

" Is it an emergency? "

" I don't know because she didn't explain anything to me like usual. I'll try to buy you some times so just chill a little longer with Magnus. "

" Thanks, Iz. I'll be back soon. " Alec cut the phone and turned to Magnus with a sour face.

"I hate to tell you this but I need to go back. Mother is calling for a family meeting."

"It's okay, Alexander. We can come back here anytime. Let's go back then."

Taking Alec's hand, Magnus create a portal with his other free hand. They arrived in front of Institute. Magnus left after giving a farewell kiss on the cheek. Alec dragged his feet inside the Institute and met Jace on his way to his office where the others gathered.

"There you are. Where have you been." His mom greeted him with a big hug.

"Just took a breather. So what is it all about?" Alec asked once he sit down.

"It's a good news son. Me and your father just accepted a good proposal." Maryse said excitedly.

"What proposal?" Alec frowned, while Jace made a tortured face as if he could see it coming.

"A marriage proposal."

"Oh? So Who's gonna get married?" Alec still couldn't put the things together while Izzy already red with anger.

"Of course it's yours. You'll marry a daughter of Branwell, Lydia. You know her right? The smart and charming girl she is."

"And why would Alec have to marry her?" This time Izzy stepped in.

"It's a good deal. Lydia is from a good family with good position in The Clave. This marriage will strengthened our position as well as Alec. This might give him a chance to step in the higher position."

"You make Alec's life a bargain?"

"It's a good bargain anyway. And it has nothing to do with you. Stay out of this." Maryse said sharply.

"I'm sorry but I can't accept the proposal." Alec then spoke.

"Be reasonable Alec. Relationship with a warlock won't bring you anywhere. People will forever judging you and you won't be able to keep your position."

"I might be won't able to get higher position but I'm happy with the thing I have now, mother."

"Oh bother!!! He is a warlock! All the things you have now is just an illusion made by him. It's not real! Come back to your sense Alec!"

"I know what's your point. But I trust Magnus is not that kind of person. Perhaps if you want to try to know h better you'll understand."

"Hah! As if I'll lower myself to associate myself with him."

"Mother, enough!" Alec wouldn't want to hear anymore insult.

"Both families had talked about this and you'll meet her. You won't embarrassed our family, will you Alec?" Maryse just walked away without listening any refusal.

"You will not do it, right Alec?" Izzy asked.

"..."

" Alec!!!"

" Leave me alone to think, Izzy."

" What is there to think? Of course you'll refuse the meeting!"

" This is not as simple as that. Have you heard about Lydia's family? They're difficult to deal with."

Izzy fell silent. Indeed Alec was right. They're powerful family and if they dared to provoke them, Alec would face more problem.

"Don't worry, we'll find a way." Jace cheered them both. He might be idiot but once in a while he could say something right too.

I'm so sorry for the long hiatus. Work is getting so much busier these past few months. Almost drop this story but I want at least end them with a happy end.

So I'll pick it up whenever I have time to spare until we reach the end.
