It was such a beautiful evening. Everything was finally in place and they could start their life together as a marriage couple. Looking back, Jess saw the hardships they put upon themselves along the way. But right now, staring at her husband's smiling face as they dined, she felt peacefulness never felt before. They ate quietly as people around them stared. Phil looked up with coy as he grasped her hand.
"What are you staring at?" he asked grinning.
"It's finally true now," she laughed back rubbing his knuckles. "I can't believe this is where it started."
"I know," he nodded. "So long ago."
"I love you Phil!"
He looked up and beamed. "I loved you forever. I can finally say what I fucking want!"
"What's that?" teased Jess taking a bite of her dessert.
"That I fucked my wife," he smirked setting his cup down. "Besides, you get me as a husband."
"What a prize!" said Jess sarcastically as they started another laugh together.
Following their dinner, Phil and Jess made a quick call to the Thomas's to check in on Jack. The boy was peacefully sleeping with a new stuffed tiger bought by Mr. Thomas. Confirming this, Phil and Jess went into the night to enjoy their first night as a married couple. Throughout the city of Athens, they danced and partied the night away until they found each other's solace once more in kissing. Heavily, Phil had pressed his body into hers while liquor drowned their systems as the clock rode into the early hours of the next morning. Phil had disappeared a moment before returning to her side.
"Hey, hey! Everybody! Listen up! I got a special announcement! I wanna dedicated this next song to an amazing couple sharing their first night as husband and wife! Let me say congratulations to Phil and Jess Wenneck! WOO!" hollered the DJ after a while.
Cheers around filled the dance club as Phil and Jess shared a deep kiss before all these strangers. They melted into each other and sooner than later, they found themselves walking the streets of Athens finding their way to the hotel. It was a bit of a walk, but Jess didn't mind until she realized her feet were terribly sore from being on them all day.
"Carry me!" she called to Phil as they swung arms.
"Why would I?" he asked stopping to kiss her again.
"My feet fucking hurt," she whispered wrapping her arms around his neck.
"Oh, other shit will hurt too. Trust me! You know better," he winked.
"Is that a promise Mr. Wenneck?" she laughed as she pushed him against the wall of a building.
"You aren't my student!" he said letting out a loud laugh as she slid her fingers down his chest.
"Phil!"
"You always said that to me!"
"And what if I didn't do my homework? What did you do?" she dared pulling his loose tie from his neck. "I was on the honor roll. Remember?"
"I'll spank your fucking ass until you gave the answer you needed for your test, young lady!"
Phil grasped her ass and gave a firm squeeze as they heatedly kissed against the wall. They, somehow several minutes later, made it to the lobby of their hotel before collapsing on the bed. He gently pulled the fabric from her body, tracing a tender finger down her spine making her melt within his hands. Moaning, Jess let out a purr as she reached for his belt and removed it. They shared each other, devoured was a more appropriate term, as they grunted and screamed into the night. Near day break, they had fallen asleep and were now holding each other watching the sun rise once more.
Pushing her hair from her face, Phil gave her another kiss and snuggled her against his chest as like started their day.
*dot*
It was everything she had wanted and yet hardly what she expected…. Well she and Phil did have lots of sex while in Greece.
It was Thanksgiving and she had been able to return to California. She was even more excited because this time, Phil could actually enjoy this too. Walking into the Billings home, she looked around trying to hide the most important surprise underneath a large sweater. It was hard considering Jack was climbing on her too. Around dinner that night, Doug and Tracy had prepared a beautiful meal for their friends and family, while Stu and Lauren had made several treats and pies for everyone. Phil and Jess were tasked with making sides but she also made sure to have her phone fully charged to have Lauren record the big reveal.
When Jess had learned, she screamed into the phone as did Tracy and Lauren. It was too big a thing to not tell them and when they promised not to say, Jess smiled knowing they would keep her secret. This time though, Tracy and Lauren came with her to the first sonogram to confirm. They cried. Jess cried. Another baby. Another Phil in the world.
So, now, watching everyone around her, Jess looked over at Lauren to give the signal.
"Everyone," she said tapping her glass. Everyone stopped and smiled at her as she stood up holding up her glass of water. To her left was Doug and Tracy while wrapping around the other end of the table was Stu and Lauren. Phil sat her to left with Jack taking a chair beside his cousin next to Uncle Doug and Aunt Tracy.
"Everyone I have an announcement."
Phil looked confused. Was she going to say they got married?
"Last summer, Phil came out to see me in Europe and there we talked about our relationship and we made a promise there to each other to never let each other go."
Squeezing his hand, Phil smiled as she spoke. Jess was trying not to cry standing before everyone but these darn emotions….
"I'm…. We…" but her voice couldn't find the words. She looked at Lauren who was giving her a thumbs up. Instantly, Tracy stood up and hugged her. Whispering for help with her sweater, the guys confusingly stared at one another before Doug let out a gasp as it came to him.
"Oh my God," he said holding his mouth.
"Wait, are you—" started Phil as it hit him too.
Jess turned around and revealed her swollen, pregnant belly to everyone at the table. She cried as they all gasped, even Tracy and Lauren who already knew.
"I had to tell everyone together Phil! I'm sorry for keeping a secret from you!"
Phil stood up, his face full of shock and then delight spread to his entire being as he kissed her gently. Handing him a photo of their child in the sonogram photo, Phil began to cry as he held Jess preciously knowing they had another chance to bring a baby up.
"I fucking love you," he cried into her hair. It was rare moment that Phil was overcome with emotions. But standing between her, Jess could feel the ominous amount of duty and pressure he must be feeling. They chose to wait until the baby's birth to learn of their child's gender. It was bittersweet but they wanted to be open to anything and everything about this baby.
On Thursday, March 21th, 2013, Jess had been having a great pregnancy and he was ready for the week to end for spring break next week. It had been a rough year already and the thought of leaving was great. That morning, started like any other day. Phil arrived to his classroom feeling great. He has spent the night sleepless as Jess had been up most of the night in pain. It was just barely there to being full term but she was cleared on everything considering Jack's unusual birth and their lost child.
This rainbow baby was amazing and he counted the blessings every day. The baby was due in mid-April around Jess's birthday but that was still a few weeks away.
During the morning, his phone hadn't worried him a bit. But it was nice to not be bothered at work. His students and fellow staff members had asked months ago if he was okay when he withdrew from activities. He explained that he and his wife were expecting a baby. Several students cheered and others began taking bets. Staff members seemed confused since last they knew he had gotten a divorce.
"When you think about the conditions of the character's environment—"
"Mr. Wenneck?" called from the intercom.
"What?" he replied hating the interruption.
"It is time."
Silence came to Phil as the wording puzzled him a moment before he threw the book down from his hand.
"FUCK YES!" he shrieked turning to find his student's shocked faces. "YES! A BABY IS GOING TO BE BORN! FUCK YES!" His students began screaming in cheers as Phil bolted from the room, his keys jiggling in his hands. "FUCK ALL OF YOU!"
Rushing by a door, he threw it open shocking the class on the other side.
"HEY! Take my class! My wife is having the baby!" he shouted at the other teacher. Without another damn care, he ran down the hall and nearly kicked the door open as he left to his car. Rushing to the hospital, he found Stu outside the door pacing, unsure of what to do.
"Oh, thank God! I didn't know what to do! She started screaming at the clinic—" he said seeing Phil walking up. He was shaking terribly so. Phil smiled and tried to grab his friend as the other continued talking under his breath.
"Stu!" he said grabbing him around the shoulders.
"What?"
"Thank you for bringing her in! I owe you pal!"
"You're welcome," he smiled returning Phil's hug. "Anytime. You guys are family. We are the three best friends anyone could have—"
"Shut up with that shit Stu," smirked Phil patting his back. "Did you call Doug too?"
"Yeah, they are on their way. I figured the father should know first, considering you're sorta the reason we are here."
"Shut up," laughed Phil. Walking into the room, Jess was laying there looking miserably beautiful as nurses around her were getting her ready. Tendering holding her hair back, Phil kissed her tear stained face as she looked at Stu.
"Can you get Jack please? Take him to Sid and Carol. Then come back!"
Nodding, Stu left.
The nurses worked quietly as the day wore on. It was hard to imagine that it was happening once more for either of them, but Phil was exhausted from waiting. Doug, Tracy, Stu, and Lauren visited around six to check in on them. Phil hadn't eaten nor had Jess. They tried to offer food for Phil but it was turned down. Phil was just too excited to meet his newest child.
Rubbing his face, Jess smiled at him seeing the worn-out man before her. Then she let out an ear-piercing scream. It alarmed the nurses who rushed in and looked at the monitors and Jess. One nurse was feeling down there and her eyes widened.
"What?" asked the resident doctor.
"The baby's head is already there!"
The nurse and doctor shared a moment's pause as Phil looked in Jess's eyes. It was legit birthing pain and now was the moment of truth. Another scream came as the nurse's eyes dropped to Jess's leg.
"Okay, Mama! Breathe! Breathe! Dad, we need you! Hold her knee! That one Dad! Jess! Deep breath and PUSH!"
Jess let out a scream so loud it greatly hurt his ears but he didn't care. It was happening. He was sure the others could hear her in the lobby.
"Great push Mama! One more and little one will be out! YOU GOT THIS DAD! One more deep breath AND PUSH!"
A moment later, the calm, tranquil silence was disturbed by the sound of the birth of their child taking their first breath. The sounds brought tears to their eyes as the doctor took the little one for a real quick wipe down. Gently laying the baby onto her chest, Phil saw the beautiful child held inside her arms. Their daughter looked like her daddy everyone said afterward. Laughing, he kissed his wife and daughter before collapsing in the chair beside them. Jess breast feed her while finding the energy to do anything else. Looking at the clock, it was ten minutes pass midnight. She was born on March 22 and he knew he wouldn't have to report to work tomorrow. Nothing mattered except their children and each other. A child they knew was theirs from the beginning. A family like they had always wanted.
"Good job, Mama!" he said rubbing her hand.
"We make a beautiful family."
"We did." Phil stood up and gathered Jess in his arms as the baby cradled against her arm, sleeping peacefully.
"I like Hannah," she spoke softly rubbing their daughter's puffy cheek.
"Oh? I do too. My grandmother's name was Emmy."
"Really?!"
"Yeah. Emilia Smith. She married my grandfather Anthony Wenneck. Been that way ever sense."
"Sounds lovely Phil," agreed Jess looking at him. He was exhausted but he wasn't going to leave her side.
Their little girl, whose full name became Emilia Hannah Wenneck, meet her big brothers a few days later and both boys adored her. During that first week of her life, Emmy, as they nicknamed her, kept to a basic schedule making her parents awake most of the night. It was normal for them to be so tired but they knew that finally the world was turning in their direction.
2 months later
"Hey Phil?" asked Jess suddenly pointing at the television. Jack was playing with his toys as Emmy was cooing in her bouncer. Abandoning the cereal bowl on the kitchen table, she rushed over covering her mouth seeing the news. "What the fuck is that shit?"
Rushing over too, Phil readjusted his tie and simply let out a laugh. "Wow… Is that Alan?" he asked grabbing his jacket beside the door.
"I thought we didn't have to deal with his ass anymore," she muttered under her breath. Handing the thrown toy back to the Jack.
"It's Alan. You know chaos follows," he stated before picking up his briefcase and walking over to the children, giving them each a kiss.
"But, Phil! This is Alan at the same time," protested Jess, returning his kiss.
"Who the fuck cares! As long as he stays away from the kids, I'm whatever about him."
Phil lingered a moment longer before gripping her on the bottom and left for work. Jess sighed heavily as she slumped back onto the couch. Grabbing her phone, she read the text message from Stu asking about her schedule later that week. Throwing her phone down on the coffee table, Jack played quietly as Emmy began to cry loudly telling Jess she was hungry. It was annoying to think about it in regards to Alan, but Phil was right. It was always a disaster. After all, he did roofie them in Vegas and marshmellowed them in Bangkok.
Around ten, she put both kids down for a quick nap and it gave Jess a moment to pause from the chaos of her present life. Sometime ago, she remembered that life was so much different. Thinking back to 2009, four years ago, it seemed so long ago. So much had changed in that time. Now Jack and Emmy were here and Phil was finally hers like they planned. After checking on the kids once more, Jess returned to the kitchen and washed the dishes they started at breakfast. Humming to the music playing softly, she felt tense. It happened often and rarely was she calmed or relaxed.

How… fucking… dare she!? She fucking left!
With no damn saying of why! It infuriated him because she also took Jack! Jason had arrived home after returning from the office that May afternoon, he thought nothing strange at first. At May became June though, Jason went through every contact he knew about where to find Jess and Jack. And no one knew where she was.
Slamming his fists on the counter, it popped the island cabinet open and something shiny caught his eye. Bending down, he reached into the small place and pulled out a small owl keychain. His eyes widened as he realized who it belonged to.
"How did this get here," he muttered grasping the owl keychain in his fist. As moments turned into days, and then weeks, and after a few months, Jason was summoned to New York City for a meeting. After receiving the notes about it, he bought his ticket and waited for the departure day to come. Gathering his duffle bag of clothing, he entered the study throwing open the safe and stared in shock at so many things missing.
"DAMN HER!" he screamed as he emptied it thoroughly. Medical records of his were there as were most of his mental checkup visit records, but items missing were entirely about Jack, Jess, and Phil. Every single document about those three were gone including the letters from the doctor who forged the paternity tests. Also missing was Jason's list of people he had killed over the years or jobs he had completed for his father. Those alone were pretty damming evidence against him.
Cursing himself for waiting so long, he hurriedly searched for his passport and did not see it there. Maybe he left it at the office?!
"Shit," he mumbled as he pushed everything back into the safe and heard the door bell ringing. Walking to the door, he peeked through the hole and saw a tall man there with a long beard and top hat. Opening the door, the man smiled and offered his hand to Jason.
"Morning Sir, I was wondering if you had time to talk about my friend Jesus Christ?"
Disbelieve riddled Jason as he held in a laugh. "Your friend? Look, I got somewhere to be. I don't have time for your shit about Christ."
"Oh, Sir! I don't want to take too much of your time but my friend Jesus died for you and your sins. He died for all our sins—"
"Get off my property before I call the cops. I have to be in New York this afternoon. Please leave!"
The man smiled and let out a small sigh. "I see. Please take this and read during your flight! Safe travels."
The man handed him a small book about a man's journey in discovering Christ. Rolling his eyes, Jason closed the door and threw the item onto the side table returning to his packing. Ten minutes later, he swung the bag over his shoulder, and left for the airport. Parking his car, he went to get his ticket from the airline agent. Smiling as he walked up and stated he did not have any bags to check.
"Okay, Mr. Marshall, you are traveling to JFK New York City. I wish you well on your travels!"
"Thank you," he mumbled as he turned away and walked toward security. Here there was a terribly long line but after twenty minutes or so, he finally reached the TSA agent.
"Next please," instructed the agent. Walking up, Jason handed his ID and ticket but was meet with a frowning agent. "I'm sorry Sir, but you need to wait over there. You aren't cleared to board yet."
"What?!" he gasped not believing her words. "I never have problems boarding."
"I'm sorry Sir, but you are this time. Please wait over there."
She pointed to the wall closest to him. Walking over, he pulled his phone out and made a call.
"Hello," answered Seth on the other end.
"Hey, can you tell me why I can't board a plane?"
"What are you talking about?"
Sighing, Jason explained and this disturbed Seth a bit. "Man, I'm trying to get through security and they won't let me even go through screening."
"Hold on…. Let me look…." There was some clicking on the phone as Jason's eyes followed the agents around him. It appeared like no one was coming to help him as travelers stared at him while they passed through.
"Jason?"
"Yah?"
"You're on a no fly list by the FBI," replied Seth after a moment's pause.
"Then fucking change it!" he snapped.
"I'm not touching this asshole," snapped back Seth. "Besides you fucking deserve it. See you in New York if you get here."
"Seth! You're in New York?!"
"Yeah, because I am already. Fuck off. And why should I help your sorry ass out?"
"I need you man!" begged Jason seeing a male agent making his way toward him.
"Betty needed you! Jess needed you! You fucking abandoned them both. Fuck you Jason."
The line went dead and this made Jason look up frightened. Turning away from the screening area, he returned to his car and left as quickly as he could. The dead tone silenced Jason forever and forever changed the relationship between the two men. Never in his mind would Seth do that and he couldn't easily ask Mr. Martinez or his father for aide.
His phone started ringing in his pocket as he began to merge on the highway. Answering it, he heard the concerned voice of his neighbor frantic on the phone.
"Jason, you were leaving today right?"
"Yeah. Why? What's up?"
"Well were expecting any visitors to your house?"
"No. What do you mean?"
"You have people on your property. They stormed from nowhere and are in your house. Looks like a search party."
Jason replied a thank you and hung up. Cursing his luck, he turned around to check the situation at his house. Turning down the block, there were indeed people on his property. Law enforcement were there and, by the looks of it, the FBI was there searching his house. Maybe that was why he couldn't board the plane. Leaving the block, Jason left the area and traveled to New York, praying that his luck would be better there.
It was just passed eleven in the morning and it would take roughly eighteen hours to get to New York City by driving. But he had no choice. Stopping near Wheeling, Ohio to rest, Jason felt his eyes close as he tucked himself into a shadow at a rest stop. From his point of view, it was near midnight, and he was awfully tired. He had some time before the meeting in the morning. At long as he got there before ten….
Arriving several hours later, Jason walked into the board room to the concerned looks of everyone present, including his father.
"You look like shit boy!"
"Long night, I'm sorry."
The meeting went on without much more conversation about Jason's rugged appearance but the sight of Seth pissed him off greatly. Pulling the man's arm, he held back his words until it was only them in the room.
"Why didn't you help me?"
"I told you why Jason. You're an asshole," replied Seth pulling his arm from the other's grip.
"I fucking need you back there. You are suppose to help. What would you do if I, say, mentioned to Mr. Martinez…" threatened Jason.
"He doesn't give a shit about you. He knows everything. You bought Interpol into his business and he isn't very happy about that!"
"I didn't do a damn thing!" snapped Jason back looking around for others to return.
"And I imagine you want me to say where Jess is too? Look I honestly do not know."
This took Jason by surprise. "I never asked about Jess."
"You did before. And yes, I knew where but not now. Here. Before you fucking kill me too. This is the absolute last thing I am willing to do for you. Keep me out of your shit. Good fucking bye."
In his hands was a small letter that Seth had received. It was folded in half and inside that lay a single photo of Jess with Phil in what appeared to be water behind them. A caption in the letter stated "American Couple Marry in Athens", and this angered him greatly.
Quite literally, Jason had lost everything… exactly how he was warned by Seth.
*dot*
Going through the next several months, Jason kept a low profile while he handled low jobs for his dad and still was on the no-fly list by the FBI. His father learned of this and from his beatings, Jason had learned that the FBI had learned about Betty's murder and that he was a person of interest.
"God damn it boy! You fucking brought shame on this family!"
"I had to! She got our daughter killed!"
"Boy! You damn well know what Betty was suppose to do! What you both were suppose to do!"
"Betty was never a leader!"
"You and she were meant to run this damn business! We needed her and you together!"
Defended in his argument with his father, Jason left and walked out feeling less than a slave. Giving up finally, Jason went to the bank and drained his account, cancelling all accounts with his father, abandoning his miserable situation. Having taken to living in his car, he threw his clothing in the backseat and screamed after closing the door. He had never returned to his home in Missouri. He had heard from his neighbor the FBI had never left his house and were staking it out. Jason had traveled so much by his car that it forced him in some dangerous areas as he tried to hide from his father. Every time though he was found.
He felt like a prisoner and the nagging thought going through his mind was Jess. He to say sorry. Wrongs had to made right but nothing meant getting her back. That's why when he learned of Sid Garner passing, he knew he might see Jess. And see her, he did.
She looked beautiful in her dress. Her hair was braided down her back and she appeared fuller around the middle than he remembered.
Did she have a baby? His mind wondered as he stared at her from the distance he sat at. Deep down, he knew she was depressed and thinking of all the things he had down wrong. Daring himself, he opened the door quietly and went to stand as close as he could. She was walked around watching her surroundings but nothing had prepared him for this meeting with her and he knew now was not the time. She was grieving with the others and he knew she didn't need him interfering.
Turning to leave, he felt his face become wet as he realized he was walked away from the one woman he truly loved and knew didn't love him anymore.
