Bella

I dragged Jasper into the backseat of the car. Carlisle followed shortly thereafter getting behind the wheel. As soon as he slipped in, he was pulling at his face.

I looked up in time to see his disgust. Jasper was trying really hard not to laugh but I could feel his mirth. And then as I met Carlisle's orange eyes in the mirror, I knew he'd been pulling out contacts. And I had to laugh.

"How on earth do you tolerate these?" he looked first at Jasper and then at me.

"Not well" Jasper deadpanned before cracking a smile.

I was full out laughing now. Carlisle was experiencing discomfort for the first time; it was truly priceless. But then remembering the "why" of his non-golden eyes I quickly sobered up.

Jasper hugged me to his side, "Darlin', Carlisle doesn't feel any remorse for his actions and isn't at all sad by them. Don't worry" he said stroking my hair.

Carlisle turned around in his seat, "Sweetheart, I will never regret how my eyes became this color. And they'll turn back, it just takes time. Please don't be sad, having orange eyes is an incredibly small price to pay for getting to keep you" he finished caressing my cheek. I leaned into the contact and give a small smile.

He patted my cheek then turned back around and buckled himself in before putting the car in reverse. I curled up in Jasper's lap in the backseat knowing he'd keep me safer than any flimsy belt would anyway.

We drove in silence for the relatively short drive to Forks and I mulled over all that I had learned from Charlie's words today. He was truly more amazing and intuitive then I had ever given him credit for.

Carlisle pulled into the driveway in front of the house I had once called home and shut off the car. Jasper rubbed my arm and asked, "You ready?" before I nodded and he helped me out of the car.

Carlisle was already waiting for us on the porch, door held slightly open. I didn't even question how he had gotten in. Classic vampires.

Jasper stayed by my side as we moved into the house. "What do you think Bella? What would you like us to pack for you?" Jasper gently prodded.

I nodded as I thought about it. "Um, I'll just move room by room and see what I want" I told him. Both Carlisle and Jasper followed me as I moved first through the kitchen and then into the living room before going upstairs. They packed the few personal items I wanted from the first floor, mainly just photos. I paused by Charlie's bedroom before bypassing it completely and going to my own. I figured I would do his last.

I glanced around and realized this wasn't my room anymore and there wasn't much I wanted. I grabbed a box out of my closet and put the few items I cared about in the box before handing it to Jasper with a nod. Then with a sigh I moved towards Charlie's room. Jasper had disappeared downstairs, presumably to put my box in the car but Carlisle gave my shoulder a squeeze as I hesitated. Knowing my second father was with me helped me to find the courage to move forward.

I opened the door and glanced around. I hadn't been in here since I was little and there wasn't anything I expected to want. I did see his uniform tossed over the closet door and realized it might be the only thing I took. After a glance around the room I decided it was the only thing I could see that was worth keeping. Maybe Esme could make it into one of those bears or something.

"Carlisle can you get his uniform shirt for me please? It's too high for me to reach" I whispered quietly knowing he'd hear me. He nodded before moving carefully to take it off the top of the door where it hung. He handed it to me before carefully watching my face. I gave him a small smile in return.

"Anything else?" he asked me. I shook my head.

"Not unless you see something I missed that you think is important?" I questioned him back.

Carlisle looked around with his sharp eyes but didn't seem to find anything else because he too shook his head. He then moved to pull me to his side and guided me out of the room and then down the stairs.

As we walked out the front door and Carlisle locked it behind us, I realized this was the end of a chapter for me. I looked to my second father and my brother and realized that while I was sad at what I was leaving behind I was gaining a beautiful future. I sincerely wished I could have spent more time with Charlie but I couldn't turn back the clock and I wouldn't wallow in what was in the past.

I gave one final glance at my childhood home and then stepped forward with confidence towards the car. I'm sure the funeral would be another matter entirely, but this, leaving this house and my father's possessions behind, this I was at peace with.
