Chapter 35: Shield vs. Tracker
Earth 38, Voldemort's secret hold
Jacob Black and Renesmee Cullen were in a room. There was some kind of magical invisible force that was preventing them from breaking down the walls or walking out the door. All they could remember was that a breach had snatched them up and then they came out here.
"Don't worry Nessie." said Jacob Black protectively. "I'm going to get you out of here."
Nessie then tapped her esper techno wrist watch.
"I'm giving off my homing signal, hopefully the others will pick it up and it'll track them to this location."
"Either the invisible force holding us here is some kind of advanced technology, or some kind of spell."
It was then that the door opened. In walked Cisco Ramon, Voldemort, and James and Victoria.
Renesmee Cullen." said Voldemort with a smile. "And Jacob Black. A half human half vampire hybrid. I have always wanted to meet one of your kind. Such an extraordinary creature you are."
And then he turned to Jacob Black.
"And a shape-shifting wolf; there are new species of magical creatures that are being discovered every day. Xenophilius Lovegood would have a field day. Newt Scamander would be thrilled."
"Glad you approve." said Renesmee in resentful sarcastic voice.
"What do you want with us?" asked Jacob Black.
"I want you to obey me." he pointed his wand at the both of them. "Imperio."
Both Jacob and Renesmee clutch their heads and gritted their teeth but then relax and then look back at him.
"Your mind control isn't going to work on us." said Renesmee. "I have the most powerful mind that you will ever see. And Jacob has a very strong will."
"I'm impressed." said Voldemort with a smile. "But none the less you will still serve a purpose. I'm going to lure your friends and family here, and then I'm going to kill them all."
"You are a monster you piece of shit!" said Renesmee in anger.
Voldemort became furious at being insulted with profanity.
He pointed his wand.
"Crucio."
Renesmee screamed at the top of her lungs as she fell to the ground when she arched her back as though every muscle in her body was straining.
Jacob fell to the ground and held on to her.
"Stop it now!" Jacob commanded. "Leave her alone! Torture me instead!"
Voldemort then released Renesmee from the cruciatus curse.
"I am already aware that torturing her is torture for you. If at any point she dies at my hand under torture or when I just suddenly plain feel like it. You will be next."
Renesmee breathing hard got up from the floor and looked Voldemort in the face. Her volatile vampire anger flared.
"I'm going to kill you!" said Renesmee. "I am going to clamp my teeth down in the primary artery in your neck and I'm going to drink your blood until you run dry!"
"Spoken like a true vampire." said Voldemort.
He then pointed his wand one more time. "Crucio."
Again Renesmee fell to the floor screaming in pain as she writhed with electric shock. Voldemort laughed with sadistic pleasure.
He then released her from the spell.
"You will be wise to not try and upset me, I enjoy hurting people far too much."
Renesmee again got up breathing hard but a look of defiance on her face.
"Is that all you got?" asked Renesmee with a smile on my face. "you think you know how to inflict pain. I endured three days of hard torture the Goa'uld Anubis."
Voldemort did not respond to that.
He then turned to James.
"Thank you for your service James. You will have your prize momentarily. In the meantime I have somewhere to be this second."
And then he disapparated.
"Prize? What prize?" asked Nessie.
"I'm going to kill your mother." said James with a smile.
"James?" said Nessie. "The James? You know, I've used my telepathy to read my father's mind. You were ripped to pieces and burned by him. You're biting off more than you can chew."
Nessie then quickly tapped her wristwatch to turn off her homing signal so as to keep her family away as she knew that them coming to them for bait would not be wise.
"I have an old hunt to finish. And I'm not going to pass it up." said James.
"Okay, you know what? do it, I dare you, go finish your hunt. I'm sure my father will be thrilled to burn you twice in one lifetime."
James looked them both up and down.
"A vampire hybrid. I've always wanted to hunt one of your kind. Perhaps I might yet get the chance."
He then turned to Jacob Black.
"A Quileute shapeshifter. I've killed one of your kind before. It was fun."
"You disgust me you filthy reeking bloodsucker." said Jacob Black, using the derogatory insult that he hadn't used in many years.
"And maybe you could take a shower stinky." said James in insult of the werewolf smell. "Ever heard of soap. Anyway, I've got a date with Bella Swan. It's going to be fun hunting her."
James and Victoria stepped out of the room. Cisco was about to follow them.
"Cisco?"
He stopped and turned towards them. Cisco Ramon was still under the control of the Mind Stone from Loki's staff.
"I'm surprised that you have submitted to this mind control." said Nessie. "You are an engineer. You are a scientific genius. But yet now you're using your abilities to help the bad guys."
"There is no good and bad." said Cisco. "What's been done to me isn't mind control, I haven't been hypnotized, I've been de-hypnotized. I've been set free from all of the false propaganda at the world tries to teach us. There is no good and bad, there is only ambition. There is only truth. And what has been done to me is that I have been shown truth. Let us face the inevitable. Not fight it."
"What about your friends?" asked Nessie. "Barry, Caitlin, Harrison Wells, Iris, Joe, Wally?"
Cisco stopped to think for a minute but then he waved his hand at her in defense.
"Stop." said Cisco. "I know who and what I am. I serve Loki."
He then walked out of the room.
Back at the DEO headquarters the rest of the group was waiting for further instructions when suddenly Bella's cell phone began to ring.
The caller ID simply said, 'unknown'. But she picked up anyway.
"Hello?"
"Hello Bella." said a voice.
"Who is this?" Bella asked.
"Don't you recognize my voice. Unless this didn't happen in your universe. The last time I called you on your cell phone when you were in Phoenix."
Bella pause for a moment. She had to search through her fuzzy human memories.
"James?"
"Very good Bella. I happen to know the location of the nuclear warhead that is going to go off."
"What do you want?"
"I want to play a game with you."
Bella thought for a moment.
"Let me guess, hide and seek? I'll hide and you seek?"
"How did you know?"
"You always love the hunt." said Bella. "But I got a different idea. You lead me to the nuclear warhead, and you like challenging games, well I've got one for you. A duel. A fight to the death. You versus me. Unless you're afraid to lose."
It really was a petty feeble taunt from Bella, but it did play on James's ego. And suddenly in that moment he liked Bella's game.
"Fine. Come alone."
He gave Bella an address.
Bella then ran out of there at vampire speed.
Moments later Alice came out and approached Edward who's at the far side of the room.
"Edward, it's Bella."
The stopped time had returned to its normal speed as Harry Potter approached the coordinates that Voldemort had told him to come to.
"Voldemort." Harry called out. "I have come."
Voldemort then walked out of the Shadows.
"Harry Potter." Said Voldemort. "The boy who lived. Come to die. I didn't think you'd actually show up."
"Oh," said Harry, "I came here." he raised his wand. "I came here to destroy you once and for all."
"You really believe that you can defeat me?"
"Watch me." said Harry.
As Voldemort held the Omegahedron in his hand it rotated and amplified his power reacting with his magic.
"But first, where is Renesmee Cullen and Jacob Black?"
"Defeat me," said Voldemort, "and they will be free to go."
"That was not the deal." said Harry Potter. "You said that I should show up and you would release them."
"You are putting words into my mouth." said Voldemort. "I said that I would simply not kill them if you showed up. But if it makes you feel better, I will release them if you can defeat me."
Voldemort then raised his wand.
"Avada Kedavra!" he screamed.
The bolt of green lightning shot at Harry just as Harry said, Confringo!"
The two spells met halfway and formed the rope of connecting magic.
Several Death Eaters then appeared around Harry and pointed their wands.
"Do not interfere!" Voldemort commanded.
The rope of magic that connected the two wands continued for about another minute until finally they both lifted their wands away and broke.
"How is this possible?" asked Voldemort.
"It's magic." said Harry. "Magic that you don't understand."
"Nonsense!" said Voldemort angrily.
"I bet that your whole experience here has been a huge ego stroking against you." said Harry. "You always believed that there was no magic someone else had that you didn't. But yet you are constantly confronted in this world with thing after thing others can do that you can't."
Voldemort sent another spell at Harry. Harry, with practice ease from his Auror training, countered. Voldemort then tried to counter Harry's counter. Harry tried to counter Voldemort's counter and it was a furious exchange of spells back and forth. Neither one of them stayed put; they both moved this way and that.
Voldemort sent multiple killing curses at Harry and he dodged out of the way. He sent multiple hexes and jinxes at Voldemort. Voldemort deflect them easily enough.
But it was inevitable. Harry could not stand up to Voldemort in a one-on-one fight. He put up a far better fight than anyone would have imagined that he would have, much of it was helped by the connection of the twin cores which gave Harry an advantage, but in the end he was knocked to the ground by a spell and held there.
"This ends! Now! Avada Kedavra!"
The jet of green light hit Harry right in the chest.
And everything was gone.
When Voldemort's killing curse hit Harry the piece of Voldemort's soul that was within Harry's body leapt in front and took the blow and was destroyed. Harry's mind hovered in limbo between death and life.
He appeared to be in Kings Cross Station which was just a symbolization of his moving on.
Dumbledore than appeared before Harry. And they exchanged a conversation. Voldemort explained about the connection of the twin cores. The connection between Harry and Voldemort. And then explain that he now had the choice to go back or to go on, but when he goes back, Voldemort's body, because it contains his blood and with that his mother's protective charm, as long as Voldemort lives he Harry will not die. As long as Voldemort's body exists Harry will survive.
"Harry," said Dumbledore, "you must master wandless magic. The Elder Wand is a formidable wand, but it will still hold you back. If you wish to tap your full power in a duel against Voldemort then you must Master wandless magic. In fact, I know for a fact that you will master wandless magic before this crisis is over. And it will be over soon."
Dumbledore then winked at Harry and then walked away into the mist.
Harry made a choking sound and gasped. He then closes eyes and lay limp for a moment. But right at the moment that the spell had hit Harry an invisible force knocked Voldemort backward and then knocked the wind out of his lungs. It was a few moments later that Harry began to get up and get to his feet.
"Nice try." said Harry through and exhausted scratchy voice.
"How?" asked Voldemort. "How is this possible?"
"I could go through the entire details," said Harry, "but right now I just want to continue this fight."
Harry and Voldemort continued fighting while right at that moment that was an energy blast from up above that shot at one of the Death Eaters. The Death Eater was knocked away. Propelled by rocket boots, Iron Man flew in and took a position in front of them.
"Jarvis, multiple Target acquisition."
"Understood sir." said the artificial intelligence inside of helmet in its British accent.
He then targeted a whole bunch of the Death Eaters at once where his suit then shot from the shoulder multiple pinpoint precision darts, which one of the Death Eaters deflected with a spell. Then another one of the Death Eaters was hit from another direction by what seemed to be a giant metal frisbee, he was knocked to the ground. The disc like Shield bounced off of a few walls were Captain America then caught it and then leapt down and stood beside Iron Man.
Several the Death Eaters are about to retaliate when at lightning fast speed the Hulk roared and knocked a whole bunch of them away while a few others were then struck by multiple lightning bolts all at once. Flying out the sky and then landing beside The Captain was Thor.
A breach then opened and out of the breach tame Cisco and Loki.
Loki materialized his armour and helmet. As he then raised his staff and then looked at Cisco.
"Let's do this." said Loki.
Thor was about to step in front of Harry and go all out on Voldemort but Loki blasted Thor with his staff, Thor deflected it with his hammer.
Cisco jumped in front of Captain America and fired a stream of destructive energy from his hand. The Captain deflected it with his Vibranium shield and then jump to the side and threw his shield like a frisbee. Cisco breached himself out of the way and then materialize behind the Captain. The Captain turned around in less than a second for he then dodged out of the way from another blast of vibe energy from Cisco.
The Captain quickly retrieved his shield. It was a furious exchange back and forth. Captain America proving far stronger and faster and more resilient than Vibe. Vibe using his powers of teleportation and energy casting gave him an extreme advantage.
Thor's Hammer clashed with Loki staff. The battle was fierce. Thor jump backwards and then fired a bolt of lightning.
The bolt of lightning passed right through Loki's body and then it disappeared with a flicker.
"You still fall for that every time brother."
"You are a coward brother." said Thor. "I am going to take you back to Asgard and you will face Asgard Justice."
"Eternity in prison?" asked Loki rhetorically as his staff once again clashed with Thor's hammer. "I have a chance for ultimate power brother. I have done nothing wrong. All I wanted to do was rule over the humans as a benevolent god."
Thor tried to throw his hammer which Loki dodged out of the way, the hammer then returned to Thor's hand just as Loki shot an energy blast from the staff but Thor then dodged out of the way.
"You tried to destroy Jotunheim. said Thor.
"Wiping the Frost Giants to extinction shouldn't be a crime."
"They may not be the most pleasant beings in the universe but they possess the right to exist." said Thor as he swung his hammer at Loki and Loki again dodged out of the way. The hammer slammed down on the ground and made a big crater in the concrete.
The furious exchange of blows continued on.
Iron Man and the Hulk continued to hold off the Death Eaters. But even the Hulk and Iron Man we're having little effect against all of the magic. Iron Man's Gold Titanium suit seemed to have some resistance to most hexes and jinxes but it was not completely invulnerable. The Hulk also seem to be resistant to most hexes and jinxes but in the end the fight was a stalemate.
Harry and Voldemort were still dueling. He knew he needed to attempt wandless magic, but this was hardly the moment to throw his weapon aside and try something that at present he knew he couldn't yet do.
It was then that a giant semi-transparent green hand came out of nowhere and punched Voldemort in the side of the head. Voldemort was knocked to the side. Then flying in front of Harry was the Green Lantern pointing his ring with the green jewel glowing.
The Green Lantern thrust his fist forward another inch where than Voldemort was trapped inside of a giant green metal box that materialized out of thin air and then large green metal bolts materialized and anchored the bottom to the ground.
Then the ground then began to shake and the Green Lantern's construct of the metal cage was blown apart. It's been revealed Voldemort's back on his feet pointing his wand.
"Avada Kedavra!"
A green lightning bolt shot the Green Lantern but the Green Lantern conjured a force field to block it.
The forcefield began to weaken and press itself back against the Green Lantern. He strained his eyebrows and scrunch up a face in concentration.
"Avada Kedavra!" said Harry Potter as he pointed his wand.
Harry doesn't often use the killing curse, he doesn't like it. But he felt that in this situation he needed to do everything that he could.
Harry's spell was intercepted by Voldemort spell. And the Green Lanterns force of his ring combined with Harry spell begin to push Voldemort spell back a little.
"You are all fools to think that you can stand up to me!" said Voldemort.
He broke the spell and stepped out of the way where he then waved his wand and created a blast of kinetic force that blew Harry and the Green Lantern back.
Harry reacted quickly and got back on his feet in a second.
The Green Lantern then conjured a rocket launcher out of thin air and fired a small missile at Voldemort.
But Voldemort waved his wand and detonated the missile when it was only halfway to him.
The battle between the Avengers, Harry Potter, the Green Lantern, and the Death Eaters raged on for several more minutes.
Bella was approaching the location that James had told her to go to.
She but before she got there she then remembered through her fuzzy human memories what Laurent had said about James when he spoke with Carlisle at the house.
"James has unparalleled speed strength and reflexes in a fight. I've never seen any vampire to rival it in my three hundred years."
She was pretty sure that Jasper and Emmett could stand up to him, Edward of course did because of his mind reading. But she knew that sheer determination alone was not going to defeat James, especially if Victoria was with him.
What did she even come alone for anyway. Pride? Stubbornness to prove herself? If she stood any chance she was going to need the speed and strength to go toe-to-toe in a duel with James. She had been practicing an advanced form of vampire kung fu with Jasper and Emmett ever since she first became a vampire but she was still pretty sure that she was still little match for James.
She then remembered what she had been told by Amun.
"It seems that right after you absorb some energy it seems to make you stronger and faster."
She then saw an electrical station hub for the city's power lines. She walked over to them where with vampire strength she ripped open the chain link fence walked right up to the electrical wires and saw the sign.
'Warning high voltage 100,000 Watts.'
That'll do.
She then pulled off the protective casing and saw the exposed wires. She turned on her energy absorbing Shield forming a thin skin over the surface of her hands where she then took the wires in her hands.
The electricity surged into her shield and her capacitor began to charge. She held on to the wires for a full minute until she let go.
She tested her speed and strength and she was slightly faster and stronger.
That'll do.
She went to the location where James was.
"James! I'm here."
"Hello Bella."
James stepped out from behind a corner right behind him was Victoria.
"I didn't think you'd actually come."
"Where is my daughter?" asked Bella not beating around the bush.
"Now, you don't expect me to reveal all of my cards do you."
The battle was hard and fierce but Captain America managed to get under Cisco's guard and whacked him right in the head, hard.
Cisco fell to the ground.
Captain America stood over him. Hoping that the cognitive recalibration had worked.
When Cisco got up on his hands and knees he then lifted his goggles and revealed his eyes. Captain America saw that there was no milky haze within his eyes anymore. It had worked. Loki's spell was broken.
"Captain." said Cisco. "Thanks."
"No problem." Said the captain as he extended his hand to help Cisco to his feet.
"I knew where Renesmee Cullen and Jacob Black are". said Cisco.
"Take me to them!" Commanded the captain.
Cisco took hold of the captain's arm and then opened a breach.
"Okay," said James. "Here is what I'll do. You're going to run and I'm going to hunt you. If you can evade me for one hour then I will tell you exactly where your daughter and her boyfriend are."
"That's cutting it pretty close." said Bella. "I would like to stop the nuclear warhead that's going to blow up the city with time to spare."
This was another kind of game. And James likes games. He thought he would play with her a little bit more here.
"Okay, I wonder how you deal with ethical dilemmas." said James with a smile. "You can play my game and allow me to hunt you for an hour if you can evade me. Where then I will tell you where your daughter is with just enough time to escape with her. Or I will tell you exactly where the nuclear weapon is right now and you can go and stop it but your daughter dies."
That was an ethical dilemma. Renesmee takes priority over everything for Bella. She would sacrifice everyone in the city to save her. It's not right, but it's what any mother would do.
"You're sick you know that!" said Bella through gritted teeth with anger and criticism. "I knew that you liked to play your games by hunting someone. But I had no idea that you were a terrorist. You are an accessory to a nuclear terrorist attack."
It was then for a second that James had some conflict.
"Playing your little games with me is one thing." said Bella trying to reason with him. "But what happened to your 'humanity'. Were you like this when you were human? Just because you're a vampire doesn't make you Pure Evil. But are you proud of being an unfeeling sociopath?"
James's face relaxed. His smile was gone.
"Fine." said James. "Defeat me in a duel and I'll tell you where both the nuclear warhead is and where your daughter is."
"Fine." said Bella.
And without another word they attacked each other.
In that moment Bella knew that if she just ran at James and tried to grab hold of him she would lose, so she had to use a defensive tactic. She had use 'dodging and evading' to aim for a 'stalemate', like when Alice practices with Jasper. Frustrate him with being unable to get to her until he got sloppy and then left an opening.
At the exact split second that James was about to get her, Bella dodged out of the way at vampire speed and then moved away.
"Catch me if you can." Bella taunted.
James was euphoric, while Bella was confident in her plan.
One thing was that James was playing with her which cost him not to actually try his hardest where at one point where Bella tried to dodge away she hit him in the face of the high jump kick.
James went flying and slammed into a wall.
He got back up this time he was no longer smiling.
James knew that he had to try his hardest or else he would fail to catch her yet again.
He ran at her at his maximum speed. Bella dodged out of the way at vampire speed, she jumped, she flipped, she evaded him with everything she had, aided by being powered up by the charge that her capacitor had received.
James then did begin to get frustrated after many long minutes.
It was then that Edward and the others showed up.
"Don't interfere!" Bella shouted to them. "He's mine!"
She feinted several times trying to get in close making him think that he could grab her and then she moved out of the way at the last possible second which frustrated James even more. Whenever James wanted to end his his own game he was always able to do it quickly, but now that he was unable to catch her no matter how hard he tried.
His technique began to get straightforward and aggressive. His technique began to get reckless. He began to get sloppy.
Bella continued this for a few more minutes making James just a little bit more frustrated when finally...James left an opening. Bella capitalized on it. She slipped at vampire speed underneath him between his legs and then got on his back. But it wasn't enough. He got out from Bella's hold and got on Bella's back, wrapped his legs around her torso and arms binding her arms to her side, put one hand on the back of her neck and one hand under her chin.
She had lost. It was over.
Bella about to be ripped apart Edward and the others converged.
When right at that moment...out from another direction came Renesmee and in a fraction of a second grabbed hold of either side of James's head and with vampire strength, with the sound of screeching, tearing metal, Renesmee ripped James's head off.
"No!" screamed Victoria as she ran at at Renesmee.
But then with a loud growling snarl a giant red brown wolf came out from around a corner and clamped his jaws around Victoria's head and with the sound of screeching tearing metal ripped Victoria's head off.
Standing behind the wolf was, Cisco Ramon, and Captain America.
"Nessie!" shouted Bella with relief as she ran into her daughter's arms. "You interfered with a private duel...but you saved my life. How did you escape."
"Cisco helped us rescue them." said the captain. "And he knows the location of the atomic bomb."
They put James and Victoria's bodies together and lit them on fire.
Bella smiled as she looked at the burning bodies.
"That was satisfying."
Edward embraced his wife and daughter.
"You scared me." said Edward.
"I wanted to end this." said Bella. "And I wanted a piece of him."
Arthur Haff and Alastor Moody then appeared out of a breach.
"Let's go get that weapon."
