"And where do you think you're going?"
Darkstar's meow caught Spottedpaw off guard, and she turned around to come face to face with the skinny black tom. His slim body moving gracefully down the wet rock as his cold blue eyes was fixated on her. Shred right behind him, the she-cat seemed to stay closer now. If it weren't for Turtleback, one would assume the Rogue leader was his mate.
"Only out to the dirtplace." Spottedpaw answered, her tail flicked to the side as she felt uncomfortable beneath the tom's gaze. She turned to remain face to face with the RiverClan leader. Shred though moved to be standing between Spottedpaw and the camp entrance. "I got cramps from the need to make dirt, so I'm off to do so right now."
Darkstar's eyes showed that he seemed to not be swayed by her words, and he flicked his tail to Shred. Spottedpaw was shoved to the ground and held down by the starving, yet powerful she-cat. Gasping for air, she looked up in horror at the looming shape of Darkstar. "Tell the truth, before we smash you into the dirt." Darkstar growled his tail lashing side to side as he towered over her.
Spottedpaw kept her mouth closed, and so Darkstar flicked with his tail for Shred to drag her out of camp. Across the grass and into the banks near the river, where she was thrusted into the river head first; her paws struggled to get up before she was pinned once again. Her eyes stung as she opened them to look up into the face of Shred. "We can be here all day, tell the truth now!" Darkstar's meow came through clear as day. Before her head was heaved out of the water, gasping for air.
Spottedpaw heaved, her eyes meeting the cold blue eyes. "There are more than one way to interrogate a cat, talk and we'll leave him alone… for tonight." Darkstar meowed, his head leaned in close.
Spottedpaw lashed out as she struggled beneath Shred, her claws scoring across the eye of Darkstar. The tom flinched back as blood flowed down, teeth baring.
'Frog dung!
She was thrusted into the river once again, her paws now flailing around in the water. She felt tears swelling as the water continued to sting her eyes, but Darkstar didn't pay any attention to her as he looked over his shoulder. he then turned his eyes back to her, a mischievous look deep in their cold blue.
A second splash joined her, and Spottedpaw turned to see Ace's head shoved under the water. The tom's eyes stuck closed as he didn't even struggle under the large white paws, most likely belonging to Hailstorm.
Spottedpaw was then heaved once more out of the water. "Answer the question, or little Ace here dies." Darkstar growled.
Spottedpaw looked at the tom, who didn't even fight but he was alive. "He's unable to defend himself!" she protested.
"So what, you will answer the question, or he goes." Shred's snarl startled Spottedpaw.
"Tsk, tsk Shred, we do not kill on purpose here in the clans." Darkstar meowed.
Shred shared a glance with the tom, before rolling her eyes.
"So… what will it be?"
Brokenpaw could feel his blood run cold; something was here in the forest with him. Something unpleasant and dark, but he couldn't see what it was. He looked left and right in a desperate attempt to find the source.
But nothing was there, and yet the feeling was wrapped all around him. Closed and keeping him trapped in its grasp, it held a claw around his neck and he was choking on it.
…
He gasped for air as he woke, sharing the nest with Twisted. He relaxed as he realized it was just a dream, nothing more than that. He was here with his friends, and the she-cat of his heart kept him close to hers.
He nestled her chest, the night sky still shining outside. But there it seemed colder, and something else was happening somewhere else. He could feel it in his heart, as bits of it felt like it was being torn apart. He settled his head down, and turned to see Twisted starting to stir beside him; her eyes opening and looking at him with their duel colors. "Is everything alright now?" she meowed, concern flickering in her eyes.
Brokenpaw nodded, his eyes darting over to Lightpaw who remained asleep separate from them. her back always staying turned to them, as she remained asleep. "It was nothing, just a dream."
Twisted tipped her head, doubt sparking in her eyes. "It seems more than that, is there something bothering you in the waking world dear?" she asked.
Brokenpaw shook his head, eyes once again meeting hers. "No, everything's fine I assure you; go back to sleep." He meowed.
Twisted kept that doubtful look though, and she signaled with her tail for him to follow. As Brokenpaw got to his paws, he turned back to Lightpaw who remained asleep behind him.
He followed twisted out of the den, and out of the camp towards the unknown.
