Big apologies for the lack of story updates and not yet posting any of the November prompt requests I had. December is always a hard month for me and this time it really knocked my creativity off kilter. My writing in particular has suffered: 34 days without any! But I've enjoyed the break and starting to feel like me again so breaking the drought with this short... Inspired by a helpful prompt from Gumnut and today's new episode. (Not my best work but it's writing)

Title: In Dreams.
Virgil had always had vivid dreams. Filled with music and colour, family and friends. Huge adventures, romantic liaisons and humorous tales. On occasions he would know that he was dreaming, and he'd be able to control what was happening… However, for the past month, he had been having the same dream. He was stood on a mountain staring out at the shimmering oceanic view. Breath-taking. Magnificent. A soothing tonic for his soul. Yet, no matter how much he wanted to dive in and explore the vast sea that spread before him, he couldn't. Something invisible always blocked his way, stopping him from taking the plunge. He knew that his subconscious was obviously trying to tell him something, but upon waking he could never work out what the imagery meant, and the dream continued on in the exact same way. Until today when all became clear…
A mission had been called in. A tanker was in the path of a tsunami and he and Gordon, who was finally back on duty, were called out. The mission, although with some difficulties, had been a success and after Gordon had some 'alone' time with Penelope they had returned to the island. Back home the family gathered to give Gordon the welcome back he truly deserved. At the end of the day, exhausted but with a feeling of contentment he hadn't felt in a while Virgil crawled into his bed, fell asleep and dreamt… The mountainside, the green vast ocean, the need to dive in but this time his younger brother was by his side. Taking his hand. Helping him step through the forcefield. Guiding him to the edge where finally, together, they could take that plunge… God he had missed his little fish.
