Chapter 36: The Shield's Evolution

"My name is Oliver Queen. After five years in hell I have returned home for one purpose, to save my city from the corruption that plagues it. But the only way to do that is to attack from the shadows and work outside of the law. I must become something else. I must become someone else. I am...the Green Arrow!"

Earth 38, Voldemort's secret hold

Cisco breached the group into the basement of a building within the 50 square block area that they had determined the nuclear blast was going to occur. Turned out that the bomb was very near James's location and his job was to keep everyone close to it when it blew. Cisco then lead them through a door and there was a crude and makeshift but still fully operational nuclear warhead. It had a timer on it.

Erik Morter the Esper then arrived with them.

They crouched down beside the nuclear warhead and they examined it up close.

"Can we disarm it?" asked Bella.

Edward attempted to place his hand on it but there was a force that then blew him backwards and he landed on the ground in a heap. He got back up apparently unharmed.

"There's some kind of magical barrier surrounding it."

Author Haff then approached the device and began waving his hands over it and his hands began to glow with bright orange light. After a few moments he stopped.

"Someone went to great lengths to stop this thing from being stopped. I cannot break the barrier. We cannot move it. We cannot teleport it. We cannot transfigure it. Cisco cannot breach it. I don't know what we can do to stop it."

"If trying to stop this thing is a lost cause," said Renesmee, "then we should get out of here and get to a minimum safe distance."

"What about all of the people within an 8 mile radius. They will be incinerated in the heat blast. Anyone within 12 mile radius will suffer significantly slower more painful death. And anyone within a 15-mile radius will die of cancer within a year."

"It's out of our hands. There's nothing we can do."

"Wait." said Bella as she was thinking.

Edward looked at her wishing that he could read her mind he didn't like that look on her face.

"What if we could contain the blast?"

"Contain the blast? How?"

"My shield."

"What about your Shield?"

"One of my techniques that I use to protect my family and friends from telepathic intrusion isn't just to surround them with the shield but rather to surround my enemy with the outside of my shield. My shield is like one-way glass. When Edward is underneath the shield he can still read people's minds that are both inside and outside the shield. So by wrapping the outside of my shield around someone who is using telepathy I can keep that person from hurting anyone.

"My new and improved Shield absorbs energy. A nuclear explosion is basically energy. If I can wrap my shield around the Warhead and we let it blow then my shield will absorb all that energy including heat, kinetic force, and radiation. Everyone will be safe."

"Bella love. Remember what we found out before. Your body acts as a capacitor for all of the energy that your Shield absorbs. You're asking your body, your capacitor, to contain and hold all of the power of a nuclear explosion. Your body can't handle it."

"It might work." said Bella. "I don't believe that any person's gift would be a danger to them self."

Edward took Bella's face in his hands and looked her in the eyes with a sad pleading look on his face of desperation.

"Don't love! Please! Don't do this to me!"

Bella looked at the nuclear warhead as the timer continued to countdown.

She then looked back at her husband that she had fought so long and so hard to be with.

"Edward, this is the person that you married. Someone who will be brave and will fight for others. If I don't do this, and thousands of people die, I will never forgive myself because I will never know whether or not I could have done it."

Edward thought for a minute. Then he turned to the Esper Erik Morter.

"Get to your laboratory and find a way to drain Bella's capacitor!" he said in angry determination and reluctant resignation at the situation. "Everyone else get to the minimum safe distance!

"Bella love, I know that you will ask me to leave too but I'm going to stay here with you."

Bella hugged Renesmee and then kissed her on the forehead while everyone else then breached out of there or ran away at super speed.

Edwards took Bella's face in his hands and then french kissed her as hard as he could for 10 long slow seconds.

"If we live through this I will give you the best sex of your life!"

"I'll hold you to that."

Bella then raised her hands and then activated her energy absorbing shield and then wrapped the outside of it around the nuclear warhead both top, sides, and underneath.

50 seconds on the timer.

Back at the battle that was taking place between Harry Potter, Voldemort, and the Green Lantern. With fierce determination, as well as being powered up by the Omegahedron Voldemort waved his wand and got under Harry's guard and conjured magical ropes that bound Harry Potter to the ground. The Green Lantern was then being chased by a Giant Basilisk made completely out of magical fire. The Green Lantern conjuring a forcefield to hold the fire serpent back but it was a losing battle.

"If I have to rip your miserable body to pieces in order to kill you then I will do it Harry Potter!" said Voldemort in frustration at the fact that Harry would not die at his wand.

Voldemort waved his wand and a Hundred Swords appeared in the air ready to impale Harry 100 times all over his body.

Unbeknownst to Voldemort, in the shadows 25 yards away a man in a green suit, black mask over his eyes, and a hood, took aim and pulled back the string of a bow that had an arrow loaded into it.

Loud enough for Voldemort to hear he called out, "YOU HAVE FAILED THIS CITY!"

Off to the side from another shadow Voldemort was hit by a blast of high-intensity screaming sound. Taken off guard and not able to cast a defensive spell he was then impaled through the heart with an arrow.

Voldemort, being immortal, knew that he could get back up and continue fighting and even kill these people that had taken him by surprise yet again, but was also well aware what time it was and his time had expired. He had to leave.

"Retreat!" he shouted at his fellow Death Eaters.

He and all of his Death Eaters then disapparated.

The mysterious Archer and Screamer revealed themselves along with a few others.

Harry and the Green Lantern got up and then were joined by The Avengers.

"Who are you guys?" asked Harry.

The man in the hood then removed his hood and mask.

"My Name is Oliver Queen. I am the Green Arrow. This is my team, Black Canary, Spartan, Wild Dog, and Mr. Terrific."

"I've heard about you." said Harry. "You're an ally of Barry Allen in Earth One."

Oliver Queen then held up a small interesting-looking Tech item.

"An interdimensional extrapolator." said Oliver Queen. "A gift from Cisco Ramon. We were a little late getting the message but we got here."

Harry smiled at Oliver Queen. "You put an arrow in the chest of Lord Voldemort? That's impressive."

The Hulk then walked up next to all of them.

"HULK SUGGEST FIND NUCLEAR BOMB!" said the Hulk in bad grammar of broken English.

"Jarvis?" said Iron Man. "Use the sensors, scan for radioactive material that would indicate a nuclear warhead?"

"Working on it sir." said the British accent of the artificial intelligence in his helmet.

"I can help you with that." said Mr. Terrific.

He then pulled out of his utility belt a sophisticated looking tech device that begin to scan.

If Edward and Bella were capable of sweating then they would have.

35 seconds on the timer.

It seems as though time has slowed down. They waited an eternity for the timer to go off. Of course they had desperately hoped that the timer will just plain stop, but that didn't happen.

10 seconds

5...

4...

3...

2...

1...

The sound was deafening. If a human was in the room they would have gone deaf from the sound's instantaneous 'BANG!'.

Fortunately vampire ears can't go deaf by loud noises. Bella's Shield wrapped around the nuclear warhead was a perfect sphere. It looked like a miniature sun the size of a car the light was so bright it was blinding.

Bella's whole body tensed up, every muscle in her body strained as she looked at the shield contained explosion with her hands outstretched towards it! She groaned, her face scrunched up if she was being crushed by a garbage compactor!

She then tried to shrink The Shield until nothing was left. The raw materials that the bomb was made out of had been disintegrated so there was no shrapnel.

Voldemort and his followers appeared back at Voldemort's headquarters which was out of the blast radius of the bomb.

"Well?" asked Voldemort as he pulled the arrow out of his chest.

"The bomb should have detonated my Lord." said Eobard Thawne. "My sources tell us that most of our enemies were within the blast radius when it detonated a moment ago."

They all sat and listened. They then watched the news which was a live feed.

"Well?" said Voldemort. "Did it simply not detonate?"

"No my Lord." said the Reverse Flash. "My remote control says that it detonated."

Voldemort sighed with frustration.

"Want something done right, do it yourself." he said to himself in exasperation.

And he disapparated.

Finally, the explosion contained in the shield was all gone. Bella fell to her knees and took a deep breath, a look of shock on her face.

"Bella love?" said Edward with a look of hopeful concern on his face. "Are you all right?"

"I did it." said Bella, a statement of fact but shocked. "Trying to contain a nuclear explosion with my energy-absorbing shield...it was an 'INSANE' plan...but somehow it worked!"

"Your shield must be far more powerful than we initially anticipated." said Edward. "But are you feeling okay Bella?"

Bella touched herself from her face to her shoulders then to her hips.

"I feel fine."

"You do feel a little warm." said Edward.

Then Voldemort apperated into the room.

"What? How did you do this?" said Voldemort with disbelief.

"Let's just say that we have abilities that you don't." said Edward.

Voldemort screamed in rage and he pointed his wand. "Avada Kedavra!"

A jet of green light shot at Edward but he dodged out of the way at vampire speed.

They both tried to make a run for it but with another wave of Voldemort's wand Edward was knocked in the opposite direction that he was moving by an invisible force.

"Avada Kedavra!"

The thin green lightning bolt shot from the end of Voldemort's wand and was about to hit Edward when,

"No!"

Bella stepped in front of the spell at vampire speed. Bella's energy-absorbing shield stopped the killing curse but that's not all that happened. Something else then happened.

Bright yellow light shone out of Bella's eyes as her hair, hands, and forearms lit on fire and her body gave off some odd swirling wavy light. She then thrust both of her hands in the direction of Voldemort where then a blast of the densest fire you'd ever seen came out of Bella's hands and hit Voldemort right in the chest and he was blasted back and slammed into the wall.

Voldemort got back to his feet and looked at her with a combination of both disbelief and fear.

"What is this? How are you doing this?"

Bella's eyes of glowing bright yellow light looked at her flame covered hands and arms.

Edward to looked at his wife with more amazement than he had ever felt before.

Ever so slowly Bella began to rise off of the floor almost as though she could fly like a Kryptonian.

Bella looks around and examined herself and these new abilities of hers.

She then looks at Voldemort and a look of absolute anger came on her face.

"I am the most powerful vampire in the world!" she exclaimed matter-of-factly.

She then shot another blast of fire at Voldemort where he then disapparated from the room.

Bella floated back down to the floor took a deep breath and relaxed and her eyes stopped glowing and the fire on her hands and arms went out. Her skin appeared unharmed though her clothing was smoking a little.

"Bella love?" said Edward as he took his wife in his arms. "How in the world did you do that?"

Bella again examined her hands, front and back.

"I don't know." said Bella in disbelief and confusion.
