She slammed her hands on her desk before shoving her chair crashing to the ground. Sheets of paper fluttered toward the ground and a plower pot shattered from the impact of the floor. Sakura stepped back from the messed and plopped onto her bed, heaving in frustration.
She then buried her face into her hands as she tried to take calming breaths, replaying the event that had happen only five minutes ago.
Earlier:
" Sakura-chan! Come back!" Uraraka shouted, forgetting all about the food in front of her as she stood up, sending her chair falling back. " What's wrong?!"
" I demand to know what's bothering you!" Iida called after the pinkette.
The said girl refused to look back and continued on her way to the elevator, but then a shift in the room temperature took place. Sakura glanced down to see a trail of frozen frost, and when she looked back up, a wall of ice blocked her way.
A hand on her arm turned her around, forcing her to face her classmates who were all staring at her with conflicting expressions.
" Tell us." Todoroki demanded as patches of frost from his hand transferred over to the girl from their contact.
Sakura ran a hand through her hair as she shook out of the boy's hold and rubbed the place where the frost had been. She then took on a look much colder than the temperature of the room, sending a chilly breeze through the air.
The pinkette turned on her heel, and just as she was about to walk around the slab of ice, she sighed when she felt another arm stopping her. It was no longer Todoroki, but Midoriya, concern written all over his face.
" Don't tun your back on us." Midoriya encouraged. " We can talk it out."
The girl scoffed and pulled away, but instead of turning around again, the pinkette took a step closer to Midoriya. The boy's expression lightened up, interpreting Sakura's actions that she was agreeing with them.
But she surprised them all when she pressed a finger on Midoriya's forehead and pushed him away. It wasn't the fact that she had done so that made everyone jump form their seats, it was the fact that she had put in such force that it sent Midoriya crashing into Kaminari.
" Deku!" Uraraka exclaimed, rushing to the boy. As she knelt down, the brunette stared up at the pinkette. " Sakura-chan."
Sakura scanned her classmates once more, everyone was here but one person, not that she cared. Scowling, the pinkette turned around, but instead of walking around the wall of ice like she had planned before, she pressed a hand on it.
With little effort, she put pressure on the cold surface, and soon after, shards of ice clattered to the ground, breaking into smaller pieces when they landed. The pinkette stepped on a larger piece that had managed to withhold, but it shattered when Sakura shifted her weight on it.
Entering the elevator, the girl faced her classmates one last time and gave them a sneer as the doors started closing. But the second she was alone and away from their eyes, she crumbed to the ground.
" This was what I wanted, right?"
And it was here that Sakura smiled for the first time in long time. A broken smile that threatened to turn into a gasp for help.
As the flashback faded away, the pinkette stood up and went to grab her bag, and just as she did so, a knock from her door snatched her attention.
" It's been awhile since, well, everything. We can get back to normal now, right? Please answer me, Sakura-chan." Uraraka pleaded desperately. " Please, I'm so scared. I don't want us to fall apart."
The pinkette plastered on a mask make of splinters and ice, trying to make herself appear stronger. She had done this too many times to the point it now came naturally, but just like any other drug, it wore her down once the mask slipped off.
With light footsteps, Sakura walked over to the patio doors and onto the balcony.
Making sure the patio doors were locked when she closed them behind her, the pinkette jumped. The pinkette needed to hold off meetings with any of her classmates for as long as she could to prepare herself, and if it meant running away, she was going for it.
Once her five minute walk was over and she had set foot on the school campus, Sakura's splinters and ice turned into slivers and frostbites. This was her debut back to school after the whole summer camp ordeal, she needed to make sure everyone knew that things were changing, starting with her.
" That's her, right?"
" Doesn't she seem different from the sports festival?"
" Damn, good thing our summer camp didn't turn out like hers."
Yeah, that's right. They were lucky they didn't get impaled by someone's tooth, but she was lucky it help opened her eyes to a new perspective. That not everything was going to be fair, that heroes wouldn't always get out without a scratch.
The work of a hero will always leave a scar that'll never go away. And in Sakura's case, the scar was literal and figurative.
" Haruno." A voice snapped the girl out of her thoughts.
She looked up to be met with Shinsou's dark purple eyes. The boy stared down at her, hiding the fact that he was, on some degree, shocked about the sudden redesign on the girl's usually happy-go-lucky face. The last time he saw her, it hadn't been this bad.
" You've changed."
Sakura reached for her talking device and started typing. And when the translator started reading what she had written down, the pinkette held it up next to her face and smiled a smile that didn't reach her eyes: Yeah? What could it possibly be?
The girl got on her toes so that she was closer to Shinsou's face, keeping her hoax of a smile up. The second part of what she had written was then read out loud just as she allowed her smile to slip off: Things change, be more specific next time
And with what she wanted to say said, Sakura got back down to her feet and walked around the boy, pushing passed him with her shoulders on the way.
" Well, well, well, if it isn't the famous Sakura Haruno." Monoma's taunting voice called out from behind. " Where's your band of Class A?"
The pinkette gritted her teeth and turned to face the boy, but when she saw Kaminari and Kirishima approaching, she resisted the urge to punch the blonde boy and instead left when Monoma's attention had went over to the appearing Class A.
Sakura wandered over to the field where the assembly was being held and took her position, waiting for everyone else to file out. It took awhile, but once the rest of the school had arrived, including the staffs and teachers, principal Nezu took a stand on his stool.
" Sakura." In front of her, Yaoyorozu tried to keep her voice down. " When did you leave? We were looking for you."
The pinkette didn't say anything and pretended she couldn't see the taller girl as she stared on straight ahead. When Yaoyorozu sighed in defeat and turned back around, Sakura only held her head up high.
And just like she wanted, everyone saw her unwavering posture, everyone saw her glacial expression, but nobody saw her trembling hands. Sakura's eyes glanced over to the sidelines of teachers to see All Might who was no longer hiding.
Despite having seen him like this before, Sakura couldn't help but thought he looked like he was drowning more than usual in his suit. Suddenly, the pinkette felt a nudge on her shoulder.
" What's up, Sakura-chan?" Naruto grinned widely.
The said girl only raised an eyebrow at the boy, finding it strange to see him in the UA uniform. But of course, since this was Naruto, the boy just had to adjust the uniform combination by loosening the tie and unbuttoning his jacket, giving him a ruffled appearance.
" Handsome, aren't I?" Naruto asked when he noticed Sakura staring.
The pinkette, however, only snorted as she turned back to the front just in time to see Hound Dog take the spotlight. The staff member angrily growled into the mic, and all Sakura could make out were a couple of words that were difficult to piece together.
The pro hero stepped back and allowed Vlad King to take over once he figured out no one could understand him properly when he was this worked up.
" Alright, I think Hound Dog meant to point out that there was a couple of students fighting late last night." Vlad King explained. " We get that you're still getting use to the dorm life, but we'd prefer if you guys restrain from this kind of activities."
Next to her, Naruto snickered. " I saw them, Bakugou and Midoriya. I bet it was them."
Sakura took out her device and started typing: You shouldn't be laughing when you're no better, sneaking off at night and visiting people's dorms.
" Bleh, who cares anyways?" Naruto shrugged his shoulders. " From now on, you're stuck with me."
Up front, principal Nezu dismissed the assembly by sending the third years off first. Class B took this time to finish up their meeting with Sakura, Monoma taking the lead as usual with a confident smirk.
" I see you've met Uzumaki, funny, isn't it?" Monoma chuckled. " We, Class B, the overlooked class, got the transfer student from Konoha, the school known for their generations of hero families. How do you feel about it?"
Kirishima frowned, stepping up so that he stood next to Sakura. The girl took a step away in response, getting a hurt look from the red haired boy, and all the pinkette did in return was look away. Seeing her action, Naruto smirked.
" We've actually met him before now." Ojiro pointed out. " During the provisional exam, we took it with the other Konoha students as well."
" Well, that doesn't matter anymore." Monoma insisted with a glare. " We've got a new student, meaning a new Quirk, meaning we have a better chance at getting you off guard. I can't wait to crush you all."
Naruto gave a curious look toward his classmates. " I didn't know we had a rivalry with Class A, not that I'm complaining."
The silence that crept in made the tension heavier, but it was soon broken when Sakura huffed and started walking, her talking device speaking up as she did so: You should be more focus on your progress instead of this kind of stupid rivalry. No wonder you're over looked.
" Huh?" Monoma watched the pinkette go, surprised by her harsh words.
" I'm sure she doesn't mean it." Kendo said with scrunched up eyebrows. " What's got her so foul anyways?"
Uraraka shared a look with Iida before smiling sheepishly. " Not sure. B-But I'm sure she'll return back to normal, I mean, she has to, she's our Sakura-chan."
Naruto stared at the brunette and blinked as he surveyed the other students, including Class B. The blonde boy then broke into a grin. " Lets get along and get through UA together!"
Meanwhile, Sakura had already reached her class and was waiting silently for the others to show up. She didn't fidget, or scribble, or even slouch. The pinkette sat with her back straight, looking at the board like a robot programmed to be the perfect student.
It was time for her to take control of her life again, which also included her activities as a hero in training.
As her classmates spilled into the room, Aizawa followed in after. The pro hero stood in the front and lectured them on keeping up their studies since, at the end of the day, they were still just students.
" What did you say?" Aizawa stared pointedly at Ashido who had been caught whispering to Asui.
Sakura turned her attention over to the pink skinned girl for a brief minute, but instead of Ashido speaking up, Asui did. Having ignored most of the assembly, the pinkette had no idea what Asui was talking about when she brought up the hero work studies.
" Right, I was planning on talking about it later, but I guess now should be fine as well." Aizawa rubbed his neck tiredly, preparing himself for a long explanation. " The work studies are kind of like the internship, except different."
The pinkette perked up, not with her demeanor but with the constant thoughts running through her mind with each passing second.
" Then what was the point of the internship?" Iida asked.
" The scouting was to build up connects for you, which you would be using soon." Aizawa replied. " Those who hadn't gotten scouted will have a hard time finding a place to go. Originally, agencies would recruit on their own, but after some complications, it ended up like this."
Sakura closed her eyes but kept up her posture. Tsunade retired, meaning she probably wouldn't be able to take her up on the work study. As for her other offers, the pinkette couldn't really think of anyone that matched her.
" All right then, Mic, come on it." Aizawa said, allowing the Voice hero to take his place as he stepped down.
" What's up, bro!?" Mic howled, starting his class off with an ear piercing greeting that made Sakura's wince from the volume.
As their first and second period rolled over them and their third approached, Sakura remained a statue that refused to communicate unless she needed to. When Midnight announced a partnership assignment for the lesson, the pinkette was quick to request to do it alone.
" Don't be like that." Uraraka said, walking over. " Come on, we can do this together."
Sakura looked up at the smiling face of the brunette before she started typing something down with shaking hands: No. What does it take for you to get that I don't want to be friends anymore? Leave me alone.
There was silence in the room as the words were read out loud, everyone being too stun to do anything.
" Hey, let's not-" Midnight tried to reason but was quieted when Uraraks's trembling voice spoke up from behind.
" Why-" Uraraka started to ask, but then she gritted her teeth as if trying to stop her next words from pouring out. She looked away as if she could calm herself down that way, but when she noticed the tears that had started to form at the corner of her eyes threatening to fall, she just couldn't. " I WANT MY BEST FIREND BACK! GIVE BACK MY SAKURA-CHAN!"
Everyone stared in shock as Uraraka panted for breath from her outburst, but they were all even more astound when the pinkette merely started on with her worksheet. Seeing her do so, Uraraka whelmed up with tears of frustration, but she forcefully blinked them away as she slammed her hands on Sakura's desk.
" LOOK AT ME! I'M GOING TO-" The brunette was restrain back by Iida who had hooked his arms under her shoulders, but that didn't stop her from thrashing her legs about.
As Midnight scrambled to get the class back into order, with Uraraka flailing her legs, Kirishima joining in on trying to get Sakura to snap back to her senses, and Hagakure bursting into tears, the class was in discord.
Electricity started to spark in the air from an anxious Kaminari, and Todoroki's tempering with the temperature didn't help calm the class down any bit. And with Uraraka's voice growing louder and louder, Sakura was just about ready to break down.
" Haruno, out, now." Midnight finally demanded.
Sakura trudged toward the door and out, her legs quivering from underneath her as if she could barely manage to hold her own weight up. Her breath had hitch as if something was smothering her and her heart pounded against her chest. Once she was in the hall, she broke into a sprint for the bathroom.
The girl slammed the door opened and plodded over to the sink.
She ran the faucet as she splashed her face with cold water. She couldn't break now, not when her relationship was just about to shatter from all her effort to distant herself. After getting a hold of herself, the pinkette touched the face in the mirror.
"Who are you becoming?" She thought. "Hopefully it'll all be worth it in the end because I'm sacrificing everything to grow up."
With her head cooled down and her thoughts organized, she walked out of the bathroom as if she hadn't just had a panic attack. When she got back to her classroom's hall, All Might stood in front of her class's door, waiting for her.
" Midnight told me-"
The pinkette brushed passed him, catching him by surprise.
" Cherry Blossom Of The Spring!" The former hero called after her. " What's happening? Tell me."
Sakura halted just as her finger touched the handle of the door. Knowing that All Might at least deserved to know the reason behind what she had come to understanding, she started typing something on her talking device: I'm chasing my dream
With that done, the pinkette entered the classroom, quietly sliding the door close behind her. She returned back to her seat and resumed on with her worksheet as if everything was fine again.
Except it wasn't because she had just fractured months of friendship in a couple of minutes. But it was okay, everything was fine, and after repeating that to herself throughout the rest of the day, Sakura started to agree with it.
