Hey everybody! I'm back! And I don't own Steven Universe. That honor goes to the amazing Rebecca Sugar!
Like most SU fans, this is one of my favorite songs from the movie released a few months ago. After thinking of an idea for who would sing it and the setting, how could I not use it?
Dragon's Edge was calm as a summer breeze blew through the air, touching the faces of the young Viking teens from Berk.
Hiccup, their fearless—and sometimes tyrannical—leader, was on a quick trip back to Berk, leaving his team to their own devices for the day. Astrid was technically in charge but she was nice enough to give them the day off.
Everyone was enjoying being lazy that afternoon, savoring the tranquility before Hiccup's return later that day. Of course they knew, the minute he landed Toothless on their shores, it was straight back to work; training, patrolling, and planning missions.
As the group lay on the grass by the dome arena with their dragons, enjoying the warming sun and cool breeze, the sound of flapping wings from above startled them to their feet.
They drew their heads up and saw that the source of the flapping was a Nadder. An unfamiliar red and orange Nadder that looked down at them angrily.
All the riders plus their dragons were on their feet, ready to act and try to calm and train this wild dragon. But before a single word could be uttered, a head pocked out from the creature's back.
There was a person riding this dragon.
The figure became more visible as they stood up, standing tall on the Nadder's back. "Well, well, well. Look who we have here," a high-pitched female voice chimed from above them. This girl had wild blonde hair that stuck up a lot, wore a red tunic with a light brown leather vest, a thick leather belt around her waist, dark leggings, and boots. She also had wraps around her hands and up her forearms. But the thing that stood out the most about her was her eyes. They were bright blue and looked down on the riders one at a time with a crazed nostalgia. "You must be Snotlout, Astrid, the twins; Ruffnut and Tuffnut, and-" she paused as her eyes landed on the biggest fella on the ground below her.
All the riders looked up at her, ready to defend themselves and their friends. All but one. One looked at her wide eyed with recognition, stricken-stiff by her presence.
"Camicazi?" Fishlegs uttered.
Back when Hiccup was younger—way before he defeated the Red Death, ending the war with dragons and Vikings, bringing peace to the archipelago, and definitely before any of the other kids his age on Berk became his friends, Camicazi and Hiccup were very good friends.
They were both the heirs of different tribes, so they saw a lot of each other. That was actually how they first met. Some Outcasts captured them together, trying to start a war between their two tribes; the Hairy Hooligans and the Bog Burglars. Incidentally, they also captured Fishlegs with him. The three youngsters escaped together and stopped it of course, and they became close friends from there.
They played, they fought, they went on more adventures. They had a few common interests, but at the same time, they were very different. Hiccup was shy and not very confident, while Cami was bold and skilled, quite confident about herself. Plus, she always bragged about how girls were better than boys in every way. But she still liked having Hiccup around. And he liked being friends with her.
But as they got older, and it got more and more dangerous to leave their islands—with all the dragon attacks—they didn't get to see each other much. Then, of course, Hiccup grew and became the hero who trained and befriended a Night Fury. Then finally, he befriended the kids from his own village and taught them how to train and befriend dragons too.
Unfortunately, he didn't think to go back to Bog Burglar Island and share this amazing thing with his dear old friend. And when Hiccup's story reached her island, with no word from Hiccup himself, Camicazi was not happy.
"Fishlegs? It that you?" she exclaimed, her voice a crazy and over-eager, like she was masking a deep rage. "Look at you! You're so… husky. And what happened to your glasses? No more squint, I presume," she said after taking in his appearance, which was new to her. Then she looked to the plump Gronckle beside him. "So, he taught you to ride a dragon," her smile faltered for a second, letting her obvious anger show. "Isn't that… swell!"
"Cami. It's… so g-good to see you again. It's been years," Fishlegs tried greeting her nicely but it came out fairly nervous. Her forced smile and crazed tone startled him.
"Five years," she said abruptly. "And not a word from you or… our dear sweet little Hiccup! How time flies, right!" she shouted, outraged. "And speaking of flies, this is my new friend, Whirlwind," she said cheerfully, gesturing down to the Nadder who accompanied her.
"You…trained a dragon," Fishlegs observed out loud, pointing a shaky finger up at the pair.
"Why yes I did. All by myself," she said proudly. "I mean…it's not like I got any help from you or Hiccup!" Her tone got frustrated again. "That's right, I heard all about you and him. The whole story. Befriending dragons, ending the war, and now you're both here together on this nowhere island with these nobodies on another epic adventure. It's all anyone can talk about back home!"
And with that outburst, she jumped off her dragon.
It wasn't until she stopped falling only feet from the ground did they notice she had a rope tided around her waist. The other end was attached to Whirlwind, making the girl dangle in the air.
Cami:
That's right, I heard the story over and over again
(Cami swings in front of Astrid)
Gee, it's swell to finally meet his other friends
(She sneered in her face before swinging off over their heads, flipping around like an acrobat)
That's right, I heard the story. Don't really like how it ends
Gee, its swell to finally meet his other friends.
(Cami flies over to Snotlout, grabs his cheeks and starts smooshing his face around)
What did he say about me? What did he say?
(She then glides over to behind Fishlegs and grabs him by the shoulders)
What did you do without me? What did you do?
(Cami shoves Fishlegs' shoulders down. Fishlegs falls on his back as Cami jumps over him and over to the twins. When she reaches them, she grabs a fist full of some of their long blonde hair in both her hands and tugs)
Did you play games without me? What did you play?
(Cami quickly let go of their hair, only to put her hands on their helmets and bash their heads together, making them both fall to the ground)
(She then goes back over to Astrid, landing her feet on the ground)
Did you think, all this time that I wouldn't find out about you?
(Cami pointed both her index fingers at the shieldmaiden. Astrid charges at the crazy girl with her axe. At the same time, Snotlout is running at her with his club ready, and the twins do the same; Ruffnut with a sword and her brother with Macey. They have her surrounded)
Ohh, that's right, I heard the story, over and over again
(Unfortunately, Whirlwind pulls her up by the rope and she was out of the way just in time, making the four collide into each other)
(Whirlwind swings Cami up to land right on her back again).
Gee, its swell to finally meet his other friends.
Cami watches with satisfaction as the riders all groan and hold their heads as they get back onto their feet.
"She's flying circles around us!" Astrid growls, frustrated that they were making no progress in besting this mysterious lunatic.
"We just woke up," Tuffnut whined as he rubbed at his eyes a little.
"Yeah, give us a break," his sister added. They were just comfortably napping in the grass not five minutes ago.
Around them, their dragons roared, never taking their eyes off the sky. Ready to defend if this girl and this dragon tried attacking their riders.
While his friends were picking themselves up, Fishlegs was just sitting there on the ground where he had fallen the first time, just staring at the ground, dumbfounded. "It's really her," he uttered, shock in his wide eyes. "But…she can't seriously want to hurt us? Can she?"
Astrid stomped over to the larger boy and jammed her fist into his shoulder rather hard to get his attention. "Fishlegs! Snap out of it and focus!"
Snotlout, also ticked-off, stood and walked over to them. Obviously, he knew who this insane intruder was and he wasn't being very helpful; fighting her or explaining what her deal was. "Yeah, who is she? And how does she know so much about dragons?"
Hearing this comment brought out Cami's deep rage to the surface.
Her crazed smile vanished, her hands clenched tight into fists, and her whole body trembled with anger.
Cami:
Who am I?
Who amI?!
What are you even saying?
I'm the loser of the game you didn't know you were playing.
(Cami's wicked smile returned as she grabbed a bow and a quiver full of arrows off the side of Whirlwind's saddle)
Let's play another game,
This time, I get to win
(Cami strapped the quiver over her shoulder, securely onto her back)
Lives on the line,
Winner takes all,
Ready or not, let's begin!
(Cami jumps off Whirlwind, bow at the ready)
Ohh, that's right, I heard the story, over and over again
(As Cami glides over Hookfang, Barf and Belch, she loads and fires two arrows at them. They both hit their mark; one per dragon. It isn't until they collapse on the ground do the riders realize the arrows are coded in Dragon Root. Snotlout and the twins go to their dragons)
Gee, it's swell to finally beat his other friends.
Ohh, that's right, I heard the story, don't really like how it ends
(Closer to the ground now, Cami fires another arrow, hitting Meatlug and knocking her out too. Fishlegs cries as he dashes to his beloved dragon and holds her as she lays there, unconscious. Cami grins, finding satisfaction in seeing her former-friend so distraught)
(Cami hears a battle cry and looks up to see Astrid riding Stormfly, dive-bombing right at her. Cami tugs on the rope, signaling Whirlwind to pull her back up. Whirlwind obeys and swings Cami up to land on her back again. When she's ready, Whirlwind charges for the other Nadder and her rider. Astrid has her axe drawn back and ready, Cami has an arrow loaded and ready to fire)
Gee, it's swell to finally beat his other-
Other-
Other… friends!
Instead of colliding head-on, Whirlwind dived under Stormfly, allowing Cami a clear shot at the blue Nadder's underbelly.
Stormfly went down, Astrid with her. With the other dragons already down for the count, she had no one to catch her.
Astrid screamed as she fell from her saddle and plummeted. Stormfly might be fine from the fall, but she doubted she would survive like this.
Then, out of nowhere, a familiar screech, fast approaching, sounded along the sky. Astrid was snatched from the air. Stormfly fell to the ground by the other dragons, unconscious as well, but no worse for the where.
Astrid looked up and saw the smiling, toothless face of a certain Night Fury.
With her safe in his paws, Toothless directed his attention back to the fight before him and his rider.
Cami and Whirlwind were coming right at them now. Cami reached into her quiver for another arrow.
"That's enough!" Hiccup shouted as Toothless shot a plasma blast at the attacking Nadder. Stunned from the blast, both dragon and rider crash landed to the ground. As she laid there in the grass, on her stomach, Cami looked up at the Night Fury and the person riding him.
And there he was. The face of her old, dear little best friend.
I wanted to use this song so bad, and I just thought she'd be the best fit for it.
It made sense to use her for this song. Not that Hiccup would ever lie to a friend ('Oh, we're gonna play a game. Just stand there while I leave') then abandon them and never come back. Pink was truly awful.
Since Cami isn't in the TV show or movies, I had to go by info on her from the books. Also, I know she had a dragon named Stormfly but I couldn't use that name for obvious reasons, So I thought the best thing to do was start from scratch with her dragon's name. But I could at least make it a Nadder too. And of course, Fishlegs was at least there with her and Hiccup for adventures.
No guarantee when I'll add more here. I was just really inspired by Steven Universe: The Movie and felt bad I hadn't touched this in a very long time (2 years). But it was still very fun writing this.
Hope u enjoyed. Happy New Year all! Bye ;)
