Title: Trepidation

Late afternoon after Rey awoke she lay on the cot feeling completely overwhelmed. She couldn't take her eyes off the heartbeat monitor on the wall. The one showing her heartbeat and her child's. Every time she thought the words Rey didn't know what to think or feel.
Poe had left an hour before having some Resistance business to take care of. Rey knew he'd been reluctant to go. He'd been the one to tell her of the baby. The huge smile that had crossed his face had momentarily eased Rey's anxiety and shock. To see Poe so happy...though she could sense he was scared and uncertain too. But he hugged and kissed Rey and told her they'd figure things out; make it work.

Swallowing a lump in her throat Rey closed her eyes and reached out with the Force. She tried to sense the new life within her. For a moment she couldn't find it. Then she felt an answering warmth and Rey couldn't help but smile. Her hands moved down to her stomach where she gently laid them across. Minutes later she was asleep.

"Pregnant?!"

Poe cringed at Finn's shout as the two friends stood in the small tent that Poe had made his private office of sorts. It was away from the other tents; near the cave where Leia had died. Still it was a tent and voice carried through the flaps. Seconds later Finn was engulfing him in a bear hug nearly lifting Poe off his feet.

"That's amazing!"Finn exclaimed. "You guys are going to be incredible parents!"

"Thanks."Poe acknowledged with a wide smile as he sank into a folding chair near a table that served as his desk."Though I nearly passed out when Doc told me."

"How's Rey?"Finn inquired softly as he sat in another chair pulling it close.

"She's trying to cope. It's a lot to process; we just got engaged."Poe explained with a sigh.

"She'll come around."Finn replied firmly. "With her childhood Rey's overcome a lot; but she still has a few ghosts."

"I know; I just hope she'll trust me; trust us."Poe fretted. "I want her to lean on me not shut down."

"She will."Finn commented with a nod. "Rey loves you Poe. Doesn't take a Force sensitive to see that."

Poe ran a hand through his hair and sighed. After learning he was going to be a father he'd thought about nothing else. Picturing a little boy or girl with his nose and Rey's smile. Teaching them to fly an x-wing...

"I already love this kid, Finn."Poe stated with a wide smile. "Can't wait to meet him or her."

Finn laughed.

"Combination of you two and your stubborn streaks and personalities?"Finn responded with a chuckle. "You're going to have your hands full."

Poe laughed. He picked up a writing instrument from the table and gently lobbed it at his friend. It hit Finn on the left forearm and bounced to the floor.

"So will you, Uncle Finn."Poe retorted.

Once she was released from the infirmary Rey found BB8. She gave a message to the small droid and told him to go give it to Poe. She knew it was cowardly not to tell her finance herself but Rey needed space. She needed to clear her head. She couldn't do that at the base. BB8 beeped worriedly and rolled around her feet.

"I'm alright."Rey assured the orange and white spherical droid. "Please go give Poe the message."
BB8 beeped with concern once more then rolled off towards the main area of camp. Rey watched him go for a long moment. Then she went to her quarters packed a couple days worth of supplies and her lightsaber and headed out into the forest. Rey hoped Poe would understand.
