After that day, almost everyone kept their distance with the exception of Naruto, Todoroki, Kirishima, Midoriya, and surprisingly enough, Kendou from Class B. And then there was Bakugou. Headstrong, stubborn, stupid, Katsuki Bakugou.
The boy had stayed more or less the same, but from observing Kirishima and Kaminari's conversation, she knew he had become more anger prone whenever she was mention. And in all honesty, Sakura didn't know how to feel about it.
" Sakura-chan?" Naruto tapped the pinkette out of her thoughts.
Sakura looked up and wiped her brows, her breathing rigid. It was just her and Naruto at Gym Gamma, and after a few hours of training, her hands trembled from overuse of her Quirk. She had been trying to take her force fields to the next level, but so far she had only been able to expand it slightly.
" You know, force fields can be use for different purposes." Naruto suggested. " It can be used as a platform to catch people with, or hovering steps to give you an advantage from above."
Sakura blinked before making a face.
" What? I can be smart if I want to, ya know?" The blonde grinned, putting his hands behind his head for support. " Anyways, did Mr. Aizawa talk to you about the work study as well? Where are you planning on going?"
The girl shrugged her shoulders as she took out her talking device and started typing: I can't go to Lady Tsunade's, but I did call her this morning for some suggestions.
" Yeah? I'm heading off to Ero-sennin." Naruto replied. " What does All Might have to say?"
Sakura froze as she registered the question. She slowly turned toward the blonde, her eyes narrowed into a glare as her mouth was twisted into a deep sneer. Naruto jolted upon seeing her expression. Realizing his mistake, he held up his hands in surrender.
" Right, right, my bad." The boy offered her a grin. " You know-"
The blonde was suddenly thrown into a coughing fit, and before she knew it, Naruto was on his knees with his hands coated with his own blood. Despite herself, the pinkette rushed over and surveyed the boy as she placed a hand on his chest.
As her seal activated from the use of her Quirk, Sakura resisted the urge to panic. This had only happen once since Naruto had transferred, but from what she had discovered, it wasn't his first, nor was it his last.
" I'm fine." Naruto tried to push out with much difficulty. " I told you, it'll pass, just give me a sec."
The boy waved away her hands, insisting that it was no use and that he would be fine. According to Naruto, this all started after he was able to tap into the demon in side of him and use the Quirk up to the third degree.
And to Sakura's horror, there was nothing they could do about it.
" I must be a real piece of work since my mother never had this kind of trouble." Naruto tried to make light of the situation with a weak smile. " What's with the face? I thought you didn't like to worry over things like this. I'll clean up, go."
Sakura slowly got back onto her feet and stared down at the boy. After a could of steps back, she turned on her heel and left without another word. No matter what she says or does, of course she cared about Naruto as well as everyone else. But she couldn't afford it, so instead she took herself out of the picture.
She made her way back to Class A's dorm, but instead of heading in, she stayed outside and decided to work from there. The pinkette could feel her Quirk course through her body, and when she looked down at her arms, she saw the markings of her seal.
" Alright Sakura, let's do this." The girl took in a deep breath before exhaling loudly as she closed her eyes.
She lifted up her arms in front of her and slowly opened her eyes as she concentrated. Electric buzzing filled her ears, and her fingers stung, but she ignored it when she noticed the force fields that were appearing.
Deciding to take on Naruto's suggestion, Sakura was planning on making tiles of hovering force fields, and since they would only have to be big enough for her to step on, they shouldn't be that hard.
Or so she thought.
" Damnit." Sakura gritted her teeth when she saw that, although she could make up to five on her first try, she couldn't keep them up long enough to actually get up on them.
As the pinkette tried to figure out a way so that she could keep the force fields up while having her hands down, she was too busy to sense a pair of red eyes intensely watching her from the window on the first floor.
Bakugou sighed, creating a patch of fog on the window. Slowly, he wiped the vapor away, but his fingers lingered on the sweaty pinkette that seemed to be in a world of her own. The blonde gritted his teeth and pushed his hair back, hating how she could make him feel.
" Dumb bubblegum." Bakugou mumbled, but despite his words, his fingers traced his own mouth as he remembered what had happen.
" Can I have one?" Kirishima popped out with a grin. When he looked to where he saw Bakugou looking, his face momentarily fell before he took on a sad smile in understanding. " Sakura, huh? You still haven't talk to her yet, have you?"
The blonde sneered. " Shut it."
Hearing their conversation, everyone's interest perked up and turned toward the duo. Seeing their curious gazes, Bakugou pointed the spray bottle in his hand at them and pulled the trigger to hide his reddening ears.
" Any update on her?" Midoriya asked from the side.
Kirishima rubbed the back of his neck and looked away. " Well, I think you'd like to know she's not exactly alone at school. Uzumaki keeps her company most of the time, but from our class, only Todoroki was able to draw out anything neutral from her."
" You guys are useless." Bakugou casted an accusing look over to Uraraka, to which the brunette stood up from where she sat and crossed her arm.
The girl refused to back down even when Bakugou walked over. " Then why don't you do something for a change if you care about her so much? Quit expecting us to do things for you, Bakugou."
" If you guys were such good friends, how did things get like this?!" Bakugou growled. " Why can't you do something as simple as help her?!"
" That's not fair!" Ashido defended. " Sakura-chan's unreachable! She won't listen! The last time we did something, the class almost blew up! Ochaco-chan's right, you should try talking to her for a change."
Bakugou took a step back. " I can't."
" Why?" Todoroki questioned from where he was standing.
" I said I can't!" Bakugou insisted.
" But why Kacchan?" Midoriya joined in, finding the blonde's reaction unusual.
" I JUST CAN'T!" Bakugou shouted, clutching his chest as his eyes darted around the room wildly, as if he was trapped. " SHE'S DRIVING ME CRAZY!"
Suddenly, the door opened and everything became silent. Her steps echoed behind her as she passed by the group of students, not even acknowledging the nervous smiles on some of their faces. Sakura kept her eyes on the elevator door and by the time she was gone, Bakugou's heart had calmed down.
" Damnit." Bakugou cursed, throwing the spray bottle against the wall before stomping off.
Things weren't suppose to end up like this. He had thought that she would be off fine without him as long as she had everyone else, but instead she just had to go and cut everyone else off. The blonde found himself on the fourth floor, on the ground, in a defeated state. He was just so damn frustrated.
" Why's she driving you crazy?"
Bakugou smiled bitterly behind his hand. " Leave me alone, Icy-Hot. I'm not in the mood for your crap."
" Why?" Todoroki pressed.
The blonde boy looked up and scowled. " Because-I don't know! That's what's so fucked up!"
" You questioned Uraraka's friendship with Sakura, so now I'm questioning yours." Todoroki asked. " You claim to care for her, and yet you refuse to even look her in the eye. Maybe it's because of you that she's changing so much-"
" I'M THE ONE SHE'S CHANGING!"
Bakugou's eyes widened form his words when he heard them with his own ears. When he saw the unfazed look on Todoroki, he scowled.
" There, happy yet?" Bakugou glowered, leaning his head against the wall. " I can't look her in the eye or else I'll never stop staring. I can't talk to her or time will pass by too fast. Don't you get it? And for someone to make me feel this way is like losing control over my own life."
"...How do you think she feels?" Todoroki asked after a pause. " From what I know, Sakura had always led with her emotions. But after everything that had happened to her, she probably feels like she's lost control over everything, and the only way to get it back was to focus on something she was sure of."
Bakugou narrowed his eyes. " And your point is?"
Todoroki didn't say anything for awhile, and soon, he started to walk away. However, just before he was out of sight, he dropped the bomb. " Just so you know, Uzumaki had made it clear he's interested in Sakura. I wouldn't be surprised if one day they show up together."
The boy registered the words and an unfamiliar feeling crept up in him. Scratched that, it wasn't unfamiliar, it was the same feeling he got from the Uchiha bastard during the license exam.
And maybe, just maybe, Todoroki was right.
Damnit.
Bakugou ran a hand through his hair as he stood in the middle of the hall, thinking. Suddenly, his lips parted into a smirk. Damnit, Todoroki had him good. The blonde stuffed his hands into his pockets as his smirk grew larger.
Perhaps it was time to win back the girl that stole his heart.
Later that night, Sakura remain in her room without so much as getting out unless absolutely needed to. However, just around seven o'clock, the pinkette took notice of the soft tapping on her door.
" Haruno, it's me, Aizawa."
The girl got up and opened the door, not surprised when she saw All Might as well. And around the corner, she sensed a couple of her classmates trying to understand the situation, which Sakura could only guess what it was about as well. What was so urgent that two of her teachers would show up at her door?
" Follow us." Aizawa said plainly, and the pinkette simply obliged without doing anything else.
The walk was long and overbearing despite it being only five minutes. The silence that hung around the trio continued on until they reached the school and went into the office where the pinkette was met by all of her teachers as well as the principal.
She raised an eyebrow in question when she saw that the table was set up to look like a conference with her being the subject.
" Have a seat, Haruno." Principal Nezu said with a smile, and when she had done so, he nodded for the teachers to gather around him. " We wanted to discuss you're odd behavior, especially when your classmates personally brought it to my attention today. I called your parents, of course, but they're across the world and won''t be able to make it."
With nothing to type or write with, Sakura was forced to listen.
" All Might was given permission to act as you guardian as of today and he requested this meeting. All Might, if you will." The rat-like creature signaled.
The former pro hero cleared his throat as he surveyed the young girl in front of him. " Young Haruno, you told me you were chasing your dream, but I'm sensing it goes deeper then just that."
The pinkette offered them a smile and shrugged her shoulders, determined to play it out.
Principal Nezu chuckled. " I'm guessing you're trying to say there's nothing to it, am I right? Well, I believe Midnight has something to say about that."
The R-rated hero stepped forward with a sheepish smile. " Yesterday, there was a..um..well..hiccup in class, and I was a bit surprised to see it was about you. I'm worried since you use to get along with everyone so well and not just the new transfer from Class B"
" Speaking of Uzumaki, I had a small chat with him just today." Vlad King brought forth. " It turns out he's not that great at lying or keeping suppose secrets."
Sakura groaned, leave it to Naruto to unintentionally let something slip between his teeth.
" I understand you don't feel the best considering what had happened, and you have the right to be so, but we just want to help." Principal Nezu added on. " Care to share anything?"
The pinkette crossed her arms and eyed each and everyone of her teachers.
" Haruno, as your teacher and the person who was suppose to protect you, I hope you know I'm sorry that this happened to you." Aizawa said. " So if there's anything we can do, anything, tell us."
Sakura blew a strand of hair out of her face and continued to look on, as if she couldn't even hear them. The girl glanced over at All Might,, the one who seemed most conflicted with the whole situation. Finally, the former hero sighed, as if giving in.
" Thoughts are powerful, Young Haruno." All Might carefully chose his words. " If you have any thoughts about trying to make certain pain go away-"
Sakura gaped as she abruptly stood up. They thought she was suicidal? Over something as unplanned, and trivial as losing her voice? She still had her arms, didn't she? She still had her head, her legs, and the ability to function, didn't she?
The pinkette narrowed her eyes. Of all people, All Might should know she was a fighter, a survivor, and no way was giving up. She was doing quite the opposite.
It was at times like this that Sakura wanted nothing more then to speak up, but reality can be a a bitch.
So instead, Sakura snatched a marker from Present Mic who gave a yelp of surprise, and furiously wrote what she had to say on the desk. The writing utensil squeaked as it was pressed harshly against the wood surface, and nearly gave out by the time the pinkette was done.
And there, in bold writing were six words: I'm not giving up anytime soon
With that done, the girl whirled around and made her exit. No one tied to stop her, and no one chased after her. By the time she realized that she was yet again alone, she had came to a halt in the middle of the path.
She felt trapped, as if there was no where else to go. To retrace her steps would only lead her back to the conference room, and to continue on was to only head back to the dorm she had turned into a prison for herself.
Right there and then the pinkette fell into a crouch and buried her face into her knees.
Despite herself, she smiled. Was she really worth all the fuss? First her classmates, now her teachers as well? The girl rubbed her eyes and hugged her knees to her chest as she replayed one certain scene over and over in her head.
Flashback:
" I have a question." Sakura said. " What brought this up? It can't just be because a couple students were talking about becoming heroes."
" Sharp as ever." All Might grinned. " You're right. I want to talk about the Sports Festival with you alone as well. Young Midoriya now know what's expected from him. He knows he's going to have to tell the world that he's here. But what about you?"
Not getting where this was going at, the pinkette tilted her head to the side in confusion. All Might suddenly got up and walked over the window, scanning the school's campus. He then turned over to Sakura who was still left in confusion.
" You are Sakura Haruno, pupil of Lady Tsunade, student of All Might, and a friend to the future Symbol Of Peace." All Might said dramatically. " Wielder of the Quirk Chakra, can potentially become the number one Hero of her generation, and you still haven't find a dream you can grow with. So fine, figure out your goal, but I want you to also announce yourself. Not just as a student, but with someone with a title worth remembering."
" You want me to be The Symbol of Peace the third?" Sakura asked dumbfounded, but relaxed when All Might shook his head.
All Might pointed in the direction of Sakura's heart before moving it to her forehead. " I want you to give yourself a title. A title that no one can take. One that can not be passed down because it's yours and only yours. You don't require one now, but you'll need one when your name is spoken among those of top heroes. "
" A title?" Sakura's eyes widened, not expecting this from All Might.
By now, the sun was high above the school, shedding it's blazing light through the window and into the room. And at the angle All Might was at, the light reflected off his eyes, giving off an aura of power that usually never appeared in All Might's skeleton form.
" Cherry Blossom Of The Spring I want you to be a hero who's not one in a million but one in a lifetime!"
A small laugh escaped the girl's lips, but it soon died down to a dry chuckle. Suddenly, she felt something on her shoulders, a jacket. Knowing exactly who it was, she hardened her eyes and froze her heart as she met the eyes of the boy in looming over her.
" I know, I'm an asshole."
