Unfortunately, I am not the fabulous JK Rowling or Stephanie Meyer. I don't own anything in the Harry Potter, Twilight, or Disney universe.
CH 41: MISCHIEF & O.W.L.SThe next day there was a notice on the board stating that Umbridge was the new headmistress. Let me tell you, Umbridge LOVED having the power. She made all of these ridiculous rules, like boys and girls have to be 12 inches apart at all times, all shirts must be tucked in at all times (even if wearing normal clothing). I found out that she was interrogating students by using Veritaserum. Luckily I caught on just in time and pretended to drink the tea I was given and was able to tell everyone, excluding Marietta of course.
Marietta had been banned from the group. I remotely deactivated her journal and coin. Luckily she could not use both as proof or we would all have been screwed.
Despite the close call we were more determined than ever to keep the D.A. going. Everyone had a chance of leaving the group but all wanted to continue learning and training. We just had to be more careful. Luckily, no one suspected any of the Slytherins being a part of this group so we still had our spies to inform us of Umbridge's plans.
I soon learned that the D.A. meetings were the only reason that Fred and George were still here. They said that they could care less about how many N.E.W.T.s they got since they were planning on opening their own joke shop. However they have gotten so sick of Umbridge's ridiculous rules that they have planned their grand exit by getting Umbridge back. First they set a bunch of enchanted fireworks, some looked like dragons and others were Catherine wheels. No matter what Umbridge and Filch did, they could not stop the fireworks (the other teachers were not exactly helping them). The fireworks were going off well into the night.
The next prank happened after the Easter holidays. They turned one of the corridors into a swamp. Umbridge was livid. Unfortunately, she cornered the twins in the Grand Hall but that did not stop them. They Accioed their broomsticks and were out of Hogwarts before Umbridge could do anything. As they were flying out, Fred told Peeves to give Umbridge and Filch hell.
Umbridge and Filch tried everything to get rid of the swamp to no avail. The other teachers were not exactly helping and secretly enjoyed watching the two fail.
After the twins left, everyone took their example and started to create mischief on Umbridge, Filch, and the Inquisical Squad. There were dungbombs that were set off all over the place. Someone somehow got a niffler into Umbridge's office that made a huge mess.
Someone (or should I say, me) had put a charm on Pansy Parkinson that caused her to grow antlers. Wouldn't Fred and George be proud! Drake loved it when I told him and he said that he wished he had thought of it when he was there.
Unfortunately, Clara somehow got long lasting itch powder all over her and Ron desperately tried to help with no luck. It got so bad that she had to go the hospital wing for a few days.
Umbridge and Filch were livid because they could not catch anyone red-handed since there were too many of us. Peeves was definitely the worst of us, he took Fred's words to heart. He was knocking over suits of armor, lanterns, vases, and honestly anything that was not nailed down. He locked Mrs. Norris into suits of armor multiple times. He was interrupting Umbridge's classes so much (not like we were learning anything anyway) that she tried multiple techniques to keep him out with no luck. The pranks continued but started to die down when N.E.W.T.s and O.W.L.s came closer.
Soon all of the 5th and 7th years took over the library, common rooms, and every available nook and cranny in the castle to study. Since the 5th and 7th years were so stressed out, everyone else had to walk on eggshells. D.A. meetings were suspended until after N.E.W.T.s and O.W.L.s.
Luckily, I still had the hidden nook in the library that I could escape to. I had not been there since the last time Drake and I were there together. It felt so empty without him here. There are a lot of memories in this nook.
The first O.W.L. was Charms. I think that I did okay but I think that did not put enough information on cheering charms. I luckily got through the practical alright. Next was Transfiguration, which I think I did well on, hopefully! Next was Defense Against the Dark Arts. Thank goodness for the D.A. meetings because that one was very easy. Next was Ancient Runes. I know that I did mix up "ehwaz" meaning partnership with "eihwaz" which means defense.
Ron and Harry told me that someone had left another niffler in Umbridge's office. While it is certainly hilarious. It is also concerning because Umbridge blames Hagrid for the first one and she will definitely blame him for this one.
Potions was next and it was not as bad as I thought it would be. Probably because I was not in the dungeons with Snape breathing down my neck. Next was Care of Magical Creatures. I made sure to study extra hard so I could get the highest grade possible to show that Hagrid was an amazing teacher. I saw him looking out his window and I gave him a two thumbs up for encouragement.
Then it was time for Astronomy. We took the written exam in the morning then at 11 p.m. that night, we took the practical. At first everything was normal and I felt I was going at a good pace, until suddenly there was shouting below. We all stopped and looked down below despite the professor telling us to get back to work. No one was listening.
A group of about 6 people had walked to Hagrid's hut. It looked like Umbridge was at the front of the group. They were trying to force Hagrid off of school property. They were not doing a very good job. Hagrid was physically fighting and seemed unfazed by the spells that were being cast at him. All of the sudden we heard the front doors open and saw the light spewing onto the lawn. We saw the shadow of what can only be McGonagall.
"WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?!" shouted McGonagall. She started running towards the group. "What are you doing? On what grounds do you have to warrant an attack on Hagrid?" We heard her ask. The answer was about 4 people in the group casting a stunning spell that collided together with McGonagall. She was glowing and fell on her back about 15ft behind where she was standing. She was not moving.
We were all stunned by what had just happened. It angered Hagrid and he knocked all but Umbridge and one other person. Hagrid bent down to pick up an unconscious Fang, who got hit by a stunning spell trying to protect him. Hagrid then started to run for the gates. Umbridge and the other wizard casted stunning spells but missed. Hagrid made it through the gates and disappeared into the night. We all just sat there trying to process what just happened. A couple of minutes went by and the professor told us to finish the exam.
I honestly tried to finish the little portion I had left on my test but like everyone else I was trying to wrap my head around what just happened. When the professor announced that time was up we all quickly put our stuff away and made our way downstairs. All of us were excitedly talking about what he had just witnessed. I knew that none of us would get any sleep tonight.
I was down right angry that Umbridge would go in the middle of the night and use force to force Hagrid out of his home. Not only that but to do what they did to McGonagall.
By the next morning, everyone knew what had transpired the night before and it was the only thing that anyone talked about for the next couple of days.
While the school was talking non-stop about the events, the fifth years were busy cramming for the History of Magic O.W.L. that was the next day. Before I knew it, we were walking into the Great Hall to take our last O.W.L.
Luckily, I took extensive notes in that class and had a lot of study nights with Drake over the first half of the year trying to memorize all that we can. I quietly chuckled on question 5: "How was the Statute of Secrecy breached in 1749 and what measures were introduced to prevent a recurrence?" This particular breach was very interesting to me personally.
Before the breach, vampires were a part of the magical world. Interesting enough, if a witch or wizard gets bitten and becomes a vampire, they retain their magic. Since the blood turns into venom, if they bit a muggle then that person gains magical abilities. They would not be as powerful as someone that was born with magical powers but they would still be powerful enough to do magic. The Volturi, the rulers of the vampires were muggles but were changed by a powerful wizard vampire. They were taught to use their powers and started to build their own army. They wanted to take over the magical world. They killed their creator and started to attack witches and wizards. If a witch or wizard did not want to join their army, then they were killed. What was worse, was that the Volturi told muggles about the magical world so that they too would target witches and wizards.
All of the wizarding ministries knew that they had to do something fast. So all of the leaders got together and decided that the best way was to erase all memories of the magical world from the vampires. Originally the leaders wanted all of the vampires killed, but that would have been too messy. So the best potion masters and spell casters secretly came together to come up with a way to wipe the vampire's memories and dim their powers so that they do not accidentally use them. Luckily, all witches and wizards' blood was already magically protected from the thirst of vampires. Anyone with a drop of magical blood would just blend into the background.
I don't know why the paper cut on that fateful night affected the Cullens so much. It was not like that was the first time I had gotten a cut in their presence. Unfortunately I have been unsuccessful in finding an explanation.
Anyway back to answering the question: The potion master's and spell casters figured out an answer and it was successfully tested. All witches and wizards were required to take this potion made by the potion master's and over the years witches and wizards were born with the extra protection. The spell casters were successful in making sure all the vampires had their memories wiped off all traces of the magical world. It is still unclear how they did it but whatever they did worked.
Every wizard ministry made it illegal for anyone to tell a vampire about the magical world. If anyone exposed the magical world in front of a vampire, the ministry would be notified immediately and they would be tried. Depending on their intent, the witch or wizard could get substantial time in prison. For the vampire, their memory would be wiped.
Over time the vampires became like the boogeyman and parents would come up with wild stories about vampires to scare their children. It has gotten to a point that it is hard to tell what stories were real and what is made up about vampires. Although I feel that there is way more to vampires than the wizarding world ever knew. For example, like how the Cullen's eyes are gold because they feed off of animal blood.
I finished the question and moved on to the next. I was on the second to last question when a scream rang out in the Grand Hall. It was Harry. He was on the floor with a hand over his scar. The professors ran to him. One of the exam professors helped him out of the Great Hall while the other told us to get back to our exam.
I tried to answer the last question but I was really concerned about Harry. Before I knew it, time had run out. I knew I forgot to put some stuff in in the last answer but I didn't care. I know shocker but one of my best friends was in trouble! Ron and I made our way out of the Great Hall and tried to find Harry with the Maurader's Map.
I know that it has been ages since I updated. Life just got in the way. I also had probably the worst writer's block I have ever had. I have finally dealt with it and am ready to move forward with more chapters. I hope to update in a more timely manner now.
