Ch. 30 Clock Tower
Once everyone was at top, they were tired from the long ascent and needed to catch their breaths. As the gang caught their breaths, they got a real look at how the inside of a clock tower really looked. They saw gears, ropes and 2 switches. There was even another door leading to the outside that they didn't notice.
"So this is the clock tower. This is how the inside of a clock tower looks." said Jennifer looking around in awe.
"It's amazing isn't it?" Joshua fed into her curiosity.
"I think it's creepy." Anne looked creeped out.
Laura had nothing to say. She agreed with Anne.
Jennifer stared at the switches for a moment and then turned her attention to the gears. "Let's look over here."
The gang walked over to the rails and looked at the gears.
The gears weren't moving. The clock wasn't even ticking.
And then Jennifer remembered.
Time will cause adherence….
The clock tower's clock stopped.
She gasped. "Time will cause adherence…..the clock tower's clock stopped!"
"Huh?" Joshua gave her a confused look.
"What are you talking about?" asked Anne frowning.
"Where did that come from, Jennifer?" asked Laura.
"I remember seeing a note somewhere in this house that said that. But I still don't understand what 'adherence' means." confessed Jennifer.
"Hmm….." Joshua rubbed his chin as he thought about what it could possibly mean.
Laura turned back and stared at the still gears in amazement. It made her mind wonder how everything would look in full motion.
Anne gazed her eyes upon the room. She was still creeped out by it. "Instead of trying to figure out what that word means why don't we try and get out of here?"
"That's true." said Joshua.
"Well Anne, I'm trying to piece together this mystery." said Jennifer.
Laura looked back at Jennifer. "Mystery? We want to get out of this place before something happens to all of us!" exclaimed Laura.
"And speaking of that, where's Mrs. Mary? I feel like I haven't seen her in forever?" said Joshua.
"I forgot all about Mrs. Mary." said Laura.
"Yeah? I almost forgot about her myself! Her and scissorman! They want us dead! Mrs. Mary doesn't really care for any of us! I think she only adopted us so that she or scissorman could kill us! That's the whole idea behind all this!" said Jennifer.
"Thanks a lot Jennifer! Now I'm even more freaked out!" said Anne.
"I'm really scared Jennifer!" whined Laura.
"Sorry guys, but we've got to snap back to reality! We've got to find a way out of here soon!" warned Jennifer.
"I'm with you on this Jenny." said Joshua giving her hope.
Jennifer smiled at him. 'I knew he'd always have my back!' she said to herself. "Thanks Josh! I knew I could always count on you!"
"So what's the plan?" he looked at her with all seriousness.
"Honestly…I don't know. I don't even know what to do with Mrs. Mary. She's a Satanist. What are we going to do, tell the cops? I'm pretty sure the phone lines have been cut. I just know it! Scissorman and Mrs. Mary aren't going to let us get away that easily." Jennifer confessed.
Anne sighed. "I hate this."
"Me too! I wanna go back to the orphanage! At least we weren't being chased by a serial killer!" cried Laura.
"Well, let's not give up. We'll think of something…..I'm just not sure what." stated Jennifer.
