Chapter 29 - The Final Match Part 1
David felt himself pass out. He felt the ground smack his face. Just a tad bit too hard though. If he woke up, when he woke up, he knew there was gonna be something hurting. His eyes, although unfocus, caught the movement of someone coming up to him. Was it one of his soldiers? He tried to ask for help. The gurgling groan that came out of his mouth made whoever was now standing above him grab him. Yes! Get me out of here! He thought to himself. Yet instead of helping him to his feet this dipstick rolled him over onto his stomach. Get me up damn it! The fuck are you doing? He tried to talk again but only got the same groaning result.
His eyes were getting heavy now. He couldn't stay focused. It was so very hard now. Maybe one little nap wouldn't hurt? Right? But there was something he was supposed to be doing? What was it? Oh well. He was sure once this person took him somewhere safe and after he woke up he would remember.
It was well past midnight when David did began to stir from his nap. His head was killing him something foul and his body hurt. Yet the soft material he was laying on helped some. His mouth tasted sour. Had he thrown up? He swept his tongue over the roof of his mouth. Yup, sour bile lightly coated it leaving the trace of his bodily action inside. He just hoped he didn't get any on his clothes.
He couldn't see very well. His vision wasn't completely bad but with it being dark now and the blurriness from whatever sedative he had been injected with made it worse. From what he could figure out though was he was in a clearing. The buildings had disappeared and the sounds of the forest and an odd crackle tickled his ears. What was that crackling sound coming from? Behind him? He lifted his head as best as he could. There was a light and... was that... food he smelled? Was the one that saved him cooking? Trying to roll over David found that his arms were tied up. What? Why the fuck were his hands tied? He struggled to get them undone but the rope was to tight and strong. "Damn it!" He cursed lowly. Suddenly everything around him lit up.
The whole area lit up like a football field. His eyes hurt from the sudden burst of light but they adjusted enough to see someone walk up to him, their hands on their hips. "Finally! Sleeping beauty decided to wake up! After how long," David saw the person raise their arm to look at their watch, "4 hours? My goodness, David, you must have been so~ tired."
Sara smiled down at him. The cocktail of drugs she shot him with did very well. Although when he threw up on their way over here she honestly thought she might have overdone it but he is alive so that's all that mattered. The fact that he slept for a long while was also a plus. It gave her kids the time to finish weeding out any of the leftover straggling soldiers and time for her to add a little bit extra flare in the last part of what she had in store for David. The extra time allowed her to get and bring the generators left inside the hotel base that Nasos' set up and forgot at the hotel. She hooked them up to some extra pop-up lights stands and placed them all around the field of her Home Tree. She also found time to cook herself something. She was starving. Thankfully the soldiers did not mess with her deer pens and, after gutting and cleaning one, she had it cooking and finished just before he woke.
Smirking as she watched him fumble around she turned and went over to her fold out chair. How funny would it be when he realized she set up her own little dinner table and she would be the only one eating this time. Plopping herself in the chair she propped up her feet on the ice chest and tore a chunk of meat off of the cooked deer that was placed on one of the tables that should have been inside the Winston's Steakhouse. It was so good. The first real food she had in what felt like weeks. She had to control herself from acting like one of her children. How would David look when he saw her acting in such a way? Probably would think she was crazy. Well she might be slightly crazy. Just a little bit. But not enough to act so unladylike. What would the Parasaurs across the river think if they saw her in such a manner!? So scandalous!
She heard David groan and try to cover his face in what he was laying on, if only he knew. She felt her smile darken as she took another bite, deer oil sliding down her chin. "Where am I? Where did you bring me?" She heard him hiss.
"My house David. Honestly, if I knew a week in advance that you were coming I would have tidied up a bit more. Oh well, you won't be staying for a long visit anyways. Your men obviously didn't." She explained glancing out of the corner of her eye at him.
Although his hands were tied behind his back he had managed to get himself to sit up yet kept his eyes squinted and head down until his eyes got better. "Where are my men?"
"I would say looking for you to try and get your hopes up but they decided not to. In fact they are here with us." Sara said reaching for a piece of backstrap.
"Don't play games with me bitch." David snapped.
Sara faked being shocked by his temper. "But i'm not! Honest!" She raised her right hand and placed it on her heart. "By the power of Raptor Jesus I promise that I, Sara Maribel Johnson, am not playing any games with you whatsoever!"
"Then where the fuck are they?" He asked looking up at her this time. His eyesight finally better for him to see. When he caught sight of Sara leisurely sitting, eating, and acting like nothing was happening he started to grow angry. How could she be so relaxed when his men were still alive? The damn bitch had a lot of gall to be acting so cocky.
Sara snapped her head towards him and returned his glare. "Look down David. There right next to you."
David felt his stomach drop. He didn't want to believe what she was suggesting. He glared at her harder while her face softened to where she smiled sweetly at him pointing with her free hand towards what he was sitting on, her finger motioning for him to look down. He was a bit curious to see if she was lying, but a part of him knew she wasn't yet he looked anyways. When he did, he felt bile rise back up his throat. She was right. His men were here. Just not the way he expected. Sitting on what he thought were just some lumpy cushions he soon realized that they were the limbless and headless carcasses of his men. Blood soaked threw their clothes and vests which did get on his suit. Their leaking fluids pooling around the area around them.
Freaking out he threw himself off of the pile. He tried to kick and push himself away from it but it was hard to do so without the use of his hands. Either way he did get a few feet from the bodies before he turned and snapped at Sara. "Your fucking psycotic bitch! What is wrong with you!?"
"Nothing is wrong with me David." Sara said tossing a clean rib bone somewhere behind her. "I just wanted to show you what happens when you piss me off. Now then I guess we can really start now that you are fully awake."
"The hell are you talking about?" He asked watching her get up from the chair and walked towards him. Seeing her get so close he tried to scoot away from her in a slight moment of fear. She stopped and smiled down at him and at his retreat.
"Well you see my bigger babies want to play to. They have been waiting for a long time to come and have some fun and since your here you might as well be their new play pall!" Sara explained pulling a pocket knife out from her shorts pocket. She saw him flinch away when she bent down in front of him, releasing the blade as she did so. David closed his eyes when she leaned over him. He honestly thought she was going to hurt him yet when he felt the rope on his hands loosen and saw her quickly pull away he immediately went for his gun. Yet when his hand met with an empty holster he felt his heart drop more.
Sara chuckled and bounced back over to the table. "Looking for this?" She lifted her shirt to show she had it tucked in a holster around her waist. "Don't worry dear we won't be needing it, well, you wont need it."
David bit his lip as he tried to figure out how he was going to handle this new situation. With his hands now free he pushed himself off the ground to stand on his own two feet, moving further away from the gore pile. As he moved the ground began to thump and shake. David turned around to look behind him where he saw two large creatures made their way to them.
Sara smiled. She was very pleased with how scared and honest David was acting towards her now and with him knowing that he wasn't going to get off this island alive. She watched him as her two biggest children made their way back home, the raptors following close behind them. The look on David's face at the sight of all of them did make her want to laugh but she instead went with a small giggle. Titus' mouth was lightly stained pink, no doubt snacking on the bodies she had left behind in the main park area. Koba on the other hand still had water dripping off of him. His little distraction while she and Penn escaped did earn him some good sized bullet wounds on his sail but from what Sara could see it didn't bother him too much.
Her children surrounded them. Titus stayed behind David while two of her raptors closed in on him. Koba went straight over to Sara, ignoring the fact that she was eating, and picked the deer off the table and ate it. She'd let him have it, after all he did do a good job at the pier and she was in a generous mood. She smiled as he lifted his head to chew on the still hot meal.
The crunching of bones made David jump. The sheer fact that two large creatures were waiting and eating in front of him without killing or eating him was frightening. He didn't know what to expect or how to expect it. Glancing to his right he examined the raptor next to him. It was healthy, large, and antsy. It knew that there was something to be done with David yet it would not touch him without orders to do so. The fucked up thing about that which he already knew was that Sara would give that order and right now she was a loose pin on a nervous grenade.
"Sara, listen to me." David tried to move towards Sara but Leo's threatening hiss stopped him. David looked between Leo and Sara before continuing. "We've had our fun but it's time to get serious. The Island will be destroyed in a few days! If you let me go back to my ship I'll allow you -"
"Allow me? After all the bullshit you just went through with your men you really honestly think you are still in control here?" Sara asked sarcastically turning to look at him as if he really was that stupid. "Look around you David. You lost. You can't bargain a deal with me when I basic-fuckingly own the whole game board. And the whole island blow up thing? I've been here for years. I have felt the tremors and seen the signs. You honestly think I didn't already come up with a plan to get off of this hell rock by now? That drug I gave you was actually for them," Sara pointed up towards Koba, "so that they wouldn't get to antsy on the way to the next island. Your words are worth nothing to me." She smiled sweetly at him.
"Then why the hell am I still alive? If you won, then why keep me here?" David spat.
"I told you why. We want to play a game with you." Sara explained. She stepped closer to David expecting him to stay put yet the closer she got the nervous he was and took a step away from her. "If you win I'll let you leave with my children, and if you lose... well we all know what will happen." she explained. When she finished Koba leaned his head down towards David and gave him a deep guttural growl causing David to involuntarily jump.
"And what am I expected to do?"
"Oh nothing much. Really, it's quite easy. Just get back to your ship before I or one of my babies do. I'll even give you a head start of two minutes. Which will start..about...now!" Sara looked down at her watch until she pressed the timer button on it.
"What!? That's ridiculous! You and I both know how that will end up!" David shouted.
"Tick tok David you already wasted twenty seconds."
David cursed Sara with every known foul word that came to his mind at that moment and reluctantly and hastily turned around to run in the direction he thought the boat was. The raptors wanted to chase after him immediately yet Sara's command to do so had not come yet. They grew antsy as they watched the man ran into the trees. Oh how they wanted to go now! Their feet claws dug into the ground as they prepared to spring forward. Any second now! Ooh they were getting so anxious!
Sara smiled sweetly at her raptor babies and Blue. They wanted to go after David so badly right now but she was one to keep her word and it had not yet been 2 minutes yet. She really wanted to let them have their fun because once they caught him they were going to leave. She knew better than to waste anymore time than what she already had and the fact that she had been captured and held hostage for god knows how long meant that she needed to buckle up and set her escape plan into motion right after David was dealt with. Now that she thought about it she didn't see his little girlfriend in the scuffle of the beach. If she was still alive she would probably give her a tantalizing option. Death by raptors or be sent home on a dingy? What? She can't blame her for anything really. All she did was sneer at her and be jealous. She can't just condone her to death just for that, but if she did do something...
Sara smiled wickedly. Her watch beeped at the last 30 seconds mark. "Down." She commanded and Koba lowered himself enough for her to scamper onto his back. His back sailfin was not as large as a regular spino's which didn't cause a hindrance to Sara's ability to ride on his back. Often times it would serve to be a good back rest.
Once on she directed him to go to the front of the group. The raptors and Tittus moved aside allowing Koba to be upfront and as the ticking of her watch flicked their ears the more their excitement got to them. 9...8...7... Blue's claws dug themselves into the ground... 6...5...4... Leo and Theo snap their jaws in excitement... 3... 2... Sara lowered her body closer to Koba... 1
David was a mess. He had tripped several times in his panic stricken run that he barely was able to move straight. The ferns and vines that covered the forest floor reached out mischievously in an attempt to trip and tie him up. At one point they had succeeded in causing him to fall upon a rotting log. His weight and the decay caused the log to split and break. David got up quickly when it happened. He wasn't going to let this opportunity escape him and he certainly didn't want to die.
David stopped next to a tree to catch his breath. Sweat rolled down the back of his neck and face. The suit he wore was stifling though it wouldn't matter if he took it off or not because the heat rising off the island was still going to make him sweat more. He wiped his brow using his sleeve before continuing on. He was getting close to the path that led back to the beach. He could smell the salt water already which make him feel better. That was... until he heard Tittus' roar.
David's face went white. Had it been 2 minutes already!? Shit! He needed to pick up the pace. 'Those damn things will catch up any second.' He thought to himself. Pushing through the ferns and bushes he forced his way out of the forest as fast as possible. With a fire on his ass and with a will to win he managed to find the path that led back to the beach. His footsteps were uneven and sloppy as he forced them to move faster and faster.
He could feel the pressure of what was to come if he failed to get to the ship first. He could honestly feel the raptor's eyes on him too. Although he couldn't hear them behind or near he knew damn well that they were closer than the larger two. Like a scared child coming back up the stairs after turning out the light in the basement he felt the tingling or fear and anxiety tickle the back of his spine. With that fueling him even more he managed to hit the first part of the beach.
The sand flew through the air as he kicked it up with every rushed step. He had ended up at the second port. This one was smaller than the one the ships were at but with him finding this he was quickly able to figure out that he needed to go right and follow the beach a bit more until he got to the next port. Huffing and stammering the whole way he had to be careful of the tree roots and debris that riddled the beach. For being abandoned for five long years it wasn't a shock to see it. Broken crates, burlap sacks, plastic that came from mostly everything, and the occasional boards with long rusted nails were either dug into the sand or sticking up from it. Of course David could give two shits about the debris but it still ticked him off when his foot got caught or tangled in the burlap or the pointed edge of a rusted nail poked through his pants.
As he was moving away from the second port he heard the trees behind him russell. Immediately he turned around. Wide eyes scanned the treeline but he couldn't see anything. With a sharp inhale he whipped back around and with heightened caution continued to run. When he did so he could hear the trees rustle again this time infront of him. This made him stop. Now he knew that they were surrounding him. Either they were going to pinch him and have one get him while his back was exposed or they were going to push him towards the water. And he would be damned if he felt the sting of salt water in the wounds he knew would give him to make him suffer before death. So before he saw whatever was going to pop out of the trees he took the crate next to him and ripped off one of the sides. His hands may have gained a few splinters but that didn't stop him. With the side panel gone David threw the items inside the crate out. With a quick few shuffles around his legs and a quick toss he stuffed himself inside the crate. With a strong grip grabbed the panel and jammed it as best as he could to where it would not give him away.
As David had closed the crate Leo, Theo, Blue, and Anna rushed from the trees. They sniffed the air making sure that they were still going the right way before lowering their heads to the ground. Blue barked when she caught a whiff of David and lead the group over to the trashed beach.
