Hello Descendants Lovers! Again, sorry for the wait but working night shift at work and having other things happen all at once isn't always easy or fun but it's a part of life.

That being said, let's get back to the story!

Evie walked into her bedroom and saw that Mal was not in there. She had something to tell her so she backed out of the room to find her friend. She started to head down the hallway when she suddenly heard a voice come from behind. It spoke her name in a dark tone. Evie let out a gasp at the sound of it. She knew exactly who the voice belonged to. She turned around slowly to see the source.

"Mother!? How did you get back here?" Evie asked.

"That is not important. Let's discuss how you foiled my plans and ruined everything! You only had one thing to do, and you couldn't even do it! You pathetic girl!" the Evil Queen started to walk toward Evie slowly.

"I did what was right, Mother!"

"Right?! How is ruining everything I've worked for 20 years the right thing to do?!" the Evil Queen stopped walking toward Evie.

"You wanted me to hurt my friends! You wanted me to become you!"

"Exactly! Now you get the point! But it's a little late for that!"

"I am not you, Mother! I will never be you!"

"You're right, you won't. And don't call me Mother. You are not my daughter. You are nothing to me. You are nothing!"

Evie tried to hide the hurt but was failing. Tears started to form in her eyes at the Evil Queen's words.

"And now I will do what I should have done a long time ago."

Evie stood still with a confused look. Suddenly, magic shot out of the Evil Queen's hand and hit Evie in the chest. The impact threw her body further down the hall and kept her on the ground. Evie let out a scream of pain as she flew down the hall. She tried to get to her feet but was unsuccessful. It hurt so much. She clenched her chest with a painful groan.

Evie watched as her mother started to walk toward her. She wanted to try and crawl away but she couldn't move. "Look at you, you stupid, weak foolish girl!" the Evil Queen exclaimed as she raised her hands to hit Evie again but stopped when she heard someone.

"Evie!" a voice rang out. Evie looked to see Mal running toward her. Evie tried to warn Mal to stay away but she was too hurt and weak to even speak. The Queen sprung more magic from her hands and sent Mal flying away from Evie.

"Mal!" Evie croaked weakly. She watched as her Mother walked pass her and toward Mal. She watched as Mal managed to get to her feet slowly.

"Leave her alone!" she heard Mal scream. Evie reached her hand out and tried to use her own magic to stop her mother from hurting Mal. She let out a gasp when no magic came out of her hands. All she could do was watch her mother fight against Mal. Her eyes widen when another flash of magic put Mal on the ground again. Evie tried once again to get up and fight, but she was paralyzed where she was.

"Mother, stop!" Evie managed to yell. She let out another frightened gasp when the Evil Queen's hands lit up and ready to strike Mal. "No!" Evie reached out her hand desperately as tears started to streak down her face. A flash of white magic suddenly filled the hall and Evie was blinded.

"MAL!" Evie screamed as she shot up from her bed. She let out deep breaths and looked around to see where she was at. She let out small sighs of relief when she saw that she was in her room, even though it was dark. She let a bigger sigh of relief when she looked over and Mal's bed and saw her friend sleeping peacefully.

Evie turned her bedside lamp on and glanced at her phone that was on the desk to see what time it was. Her phone read 11:00p.m. She sat on the edge of her bed and ran her hand through her hair. She stopped and remembered how she couldn't use her magic in her dream. Could it be true? She held out her hand and waited for the magic to shoot out of it, but nothing came out. She let out a small gasp. Her magic was gone.

She then started to hear her mother's words from the dream echo in her head. You pathetic girl. You stupid, weak foolish girl. You're not my daughter. You are nothing. The words hurt her so badly. She let out soft sobs at the thought of her mother wanted to say those things to her. Her body trembled at the dream which played through her mind. The thought of Mal being hurt scared her to death.

Unbeknownst to Evie, Mal was woken by the sound of Evie's quiet sobs. Mal looked over at Evie to see her friend wiping her eyes. "Evie?"

Evie's eyes opened wide as she looked over to her friend. "Oh, I'm sorry, M. I didn't mean to wake you up."

Mal sat up in her bed. "Are you okay?" she asked concerned.

"Y-yeah. I, I-I'm fine," Evie stammered. Evie continued to wipe tears from her eyes and let out a stray sniffle.

"No, you're not," Mal got up from her bed and walked over to Evie's. She sat next to Evie on the edge of her bed. She wiped away a piece of hair from Evie's face and noticed Evie's eyes. "Evie, you've been crying." She then noticed Evie's violent shaking body. "And you're shaking," Mal grasped her friend's hands. "What's wrong?" she asked with more concern than before.

"Nothing," Evie tried to insist. "It was just a bad dream. I'm fine," Evie wiped her cheeks from her tears.

"What happened?" Mal asked. She had her share of nightmares as well and it always helped her to talk about them, especially with Evie. Evie was always there to comfort her, now Mal wanted to be there for her friend.

Evie let out a sigh. She wanted to talk about it but at the same time, she didn't. However, she knew when Mal talked about her bad dreams, it always helped her. She closed her eyes and let the dream play in her mind again. "My mother was back. She started saying all these terrible, hurtful things to me. Then she used her magic to strike me down. And right before she was ready to finish me off, you found me and tried to protect me, but my mother pushed you away. I tried to help you, but I couldn't move. I couldn't use my magic. And my mother struck you down too, and then she, she..." Evie couldn't even finish what she was about to say. She looked at Mal, her eyes welling up with tears again. "Oh, Mal."

Mal listened carefully and knew why Evie couldn't finish the last part of her dream. Mal knew what happened. "Hey, hey, hey," Mal started as she wrapped her arms around Evie's shoulders. "I'm here. I'm right here."

Evie laid her head on Mal's shoulder and let out another relieved sigh. Mal was here, and she was alive. Evie's body stopped trembling with Mal's arms around her.

"It was awful. She called me a weak and foolish person. She said I wasn't her daughter and that I was nothing. I'm nothing," Evie said with a small sob.

"It was just a dream, Evie. And your mom is wrong. Don't let her get inside your head. She wants you to think about those things so she can feel more powerful. Don't let her win," Mal stated as she started to stroke Evie's hair.

Evie let out a shaky sigh. "And my magic is gone."

"What?" Mal asked shocked releasing Evie.

"Yeah. Look." Evie held out her hand and watched as no magic shot out. Mal was slightly confused as to why her magic was gone. The only thing she could think of was the final battle where Evie gave everything she had to save Auradon and her friends. Evie put her hand back down and felt Mal grab it.

"Maybe it's for the best," Mal stated.

Evie thought about what Mal said for a second. Mal was right. The only thing Evie's magic managed to do was hurt others. She didn't want it if it was only going to hurt people. "Yeah, you're probably right. Besides, if I ever need magic, I have you," she said with a small smile.

"Right," Mal smiled back at her friend. "And Evie, don't worry about what your mother thinks about you, or what anyone else even thinks about you, because it doesn't matter. What matters is what makes you happy, and being who you want to be," Mal looked at Evie and placed a hand on Evie's cheek. "And if they can't see you for the smart, beautiful, amazing person you are, they're not worth it."

Evie listened to every word Mal said. She liked these words better than her mother's. She let another tear slip down her cheek. Mal used her thumb to wipe the tear away. Mal smiled when she saw Evie form a smile. "Thanks, M. You're the best."

Evie leaned her head on Mal's shoulder again and Mal wrapped her arms around her once again.

"Hey," Mal said.

"Hmm?" Evie pondered looking up at Mal.

"I love you."

"I love you."

Evie closed her eyes and let out a contented sigh. She wished this moment could last forever. She then thought of one more thing to tell Mal. "And M?"

"Yeah?"

"I'll be at the party tomorrow."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah. Heroes don't hide from what they don't want to face. They do what's right, not easy."

Mal formed a bigger smile. Evie had finally got it. It wasn't her fault and she was a hero because of what she had done to make up for her mistakes. It made Mal very happy to see that Evie was finally seeing herself the way Mal saw her. "I'm really happy you feel that way."

"I just have one request. Don't leave me alone. I don't know how people are going to react to me being there."

Don't worry, if anyone wants to get to you, they're going to have to go through me first. And I won't leave your side, I promise."

"Thank you."

"Well, if we're going to that party, we better get some sleep," Mal said as she released Evie and laid down on Evie's bed, leaving enough room for Evie to lay right beside her. She patted the spot for Evie. "Come on."

Evie smiled and laid right next to Mal. Evie closed her eyes as soon as her head hit the pillow. Mal wanted to stay awake for a little bit to make sure Evie was okay. But before she knew it, her eyes closed and she drifted to sleep.

Evie fell into a peaceful sleep and any thought of her mother floated out of her dreams and our of her head.

Evie's magic is gone? But like Mal said, maybe it is for the best. Maybe this is the start of things finally getting back to normal for Evie. And it looks like Evie is finally realizing that she can't keep blaming herself and start seeing herself for what she really is, a hero. But will the people see her that way at the party or will they still be angry at Evie? It's a good thing she has Mal by her side because she might need her. Or maybe not. Find out in the next update!
