Origins Of LUNR
Chapter 33: On Our Way
The moonlight shined brightly in Weiss's room as she and Uzziel stood inside looking at one another. Uzziel gave her a look of sympathy as he put a hand on her shoulder which made her look down at the ground. "I'm sorry you had to go through that Weiss. I wish I got here sooner." He said in a soft tone.
Weiss smiled raising her head with tears of joy in her eyes. She was so happy to see him, it wasn't a mystery that she wanted to know that he was alright and deep down inside, she knew she missed him. Uzziel's eyes shifted to her cheek as he put his hand towards it and noticed that a red mark was there but it was slowly fading away. Uzziel gritted his teeth piecing everything together.
"Did he hit you?"
Weiss's eyes went wide as she heard his question. She looked at his hand and then looked into his eyes and noticed that he was starting to get angry. "Uzziel-"
"Did he hit you?"
He asked again, his voice slightly raised. Weiss knew keeping it from him or trying to avoid the question would make him even more suspicious. Weiss nodded "Yeah… he slapped me."
Uzziel had heard enough as he started to walk passed Weiss who quickly grabbed his arm. "Uzziel stop. Please don't confront him, I'm okay. It'll take more than him to break me." She said which made Uzziel stop in his tracks.
"Besides, he doesn't even know you're here. If you go barging up to him, he'll have you arrested for trespassing. I'm fine." She said as she gave him a warm smile assuring him she was okay.
Uzziel nodded and turned around to face her. "So what brought you here?" She asked.
He raised an eyebrow and smiled at her "I can't come to check on you and make sure you're okay?" He asked which made her shake her hands frantically.
"No, no, no, I didn't mean it like that. I was just wondering," she replied.
As Weiss looked into his eyes, her mind started to wander and a vision of Uzziel came into her mind. The vision showed Uzziel in the middle of a heated battle flying in the sky. Red aura was surrounding his body and taking on the shape of a dragon. Uzziel let out a roar that echoed throughout Beacon, causing a huge gust of wind to hit everyone around him. Wiess shuddered as she thought about which Uzziel noticed.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
Weiss slowly looked at the ground, she wasn't able to look at him at the moment because the vision kept replaying in her head. "Uzziel… What happened to you that day?" She asked.
Uzziel's eyes went wide for a moment, he knew exactly what she was talking about. "You're talking about what happened at Beacon?" He asked as he looked to the side.
Weiss looked at him and nodded which made him sigh. He knew he had to tell her, he knew he owed her an explanation. "You know how that semblance works right?" He asked.
Weiss nodded "Yeah, you're able to obtain the capabilities of any animal. The red aura that surrounds your body shapes into the animal you choose. You gain the power and speed of that certain animal." She explained.
"Yeah… but it's not just animals. Its any living thing that's not a human. What you saw that day was me using the powers of a dragon." He paused as Weiss's eyes went wide.
He looked at her and continued "With gaining the capabilities of whatever I choose to transform into I also gain its mindset and emotions. The rage of a dragon is immense and when they're angered. They go into a complete rage and destroy whatever is in their way." He said.
Weiss didn't say a word, she just stood there and listened as she knew he had more to say. "For as long as we've known each other. I never fully mastered my semblance and whenever I would take that form, I would lose control." He said.
Uzziel turned around as he walked over to her window and looked up at the moon that shined bright in the sky. "When you called on the scroll that night. Nolo and I were chasing down Mercury and Emerald and when I confronted Mercury… he brought up my parents. Emerald, Mercury and their leader Cinder… killed my parents." He said which shocked Weiss.
Weiss walked over to him with a look of complete sadness. She knew that hearing something like that must've hurt Uzziel a lot. "Uzziel, I'm sorry you had to go through that." She said.
Uzziel shook his head and continued to look up at the moon "It's fine, I'm okay." He responded.
"Cinder… Was she the one that broadcasted her voice during the Vytal Festival?" She asked.
Uzziel didn't say a word, instead, he just nodded his head. From this response, something clicked in Weiss's head which made her expression turn to serious. "Uzziel… What are you planning to do?" She asked.
Uzziel remained silent which gave her an answer "You're not planning to get revenge, are you? Uzziel are you planning to kill them?" She asked with a worried tone in her voice.
Uzziel remained silent which made her grab his arm. "Uzziel you can't!" She exclaimed.
"They killed my parents so why can't I retaliate?" He asked.
"Because there are other ways to go about this. You can bring them to justice, without killing them." She replied.
"She killed Pyrrha!" He exclaimed as he turned to look at her. He watched as her eyes widened and her face showed utter shock.
"She took Pyrrha's life and if I don't stop her, she'll continue to take other people's lives." He explained.
Weiss could see the anger in his eyes as she looked at him. "This isn't you Uzziel. You're not a killer. Your parents wouldn't want that, your uncle wouldn't want that and your sister wouldn't want that" She said as she tried to reason with him.
"I don't care about what that woman wants." He snapped back.
"Uzziel!" She scolded as she put her hands on her hips.
"She left without saying a word, I haven't seen her in three years Weiss, three years! I have no sympathy for her." He retorted.
"You can't just write her off without hearing her side Uzziel and you know that! She wouldn't just leave without a reason. You can at least give her a chance to explain her side when you finally see her. I understand you needed her to support you, but you don't know what she might have been dealing with." Weiss said.
Uzziel looked into her eyes and knew that deep down she was right. He was furious with his sister but he knew he had to comply regardless of how he felt. "You're not alone in this Uzziel."
His eyes went wide as he heard those words leave her mouth. Weiss loosened the grip she had on his arm and continued to look at him. "I'm not telling you to do nothing. If you want to bring them to justice then I want to be there to help you. You don't have to do this alone, you can rely on me. If you are going after them, then please take me with you. Let me help you." Weiss finished.
Uzziel remained in silence while his gaze was set on her. He knew Weiss cared about him, but he never knew she would go this far for him. Uzziel walked passed her and looked at the ground. Weiss turned around and looked at his back as he stood there "Uzziel?"
Uzziel sighed for a moment and then looked up at the ceiling, "Ruby and the other's will be heading to Haven Academy in Mistral. I'm supposed to be meeting them there." He said.
"Uzziel?" She asked in a confused tone.
"If you're coming with me, then we need to leave soon." He said as he turned around to look at her. She noticed that he was smiling again which made her smile and run towards him to hug him.
He then put his hands on her shoulders which made her look at him "But before we go, I wanna help you master your semblance." He stated.
Weiss's smile turned to a frown as she looked away from him. "How am I supposed to do that? Winter tried and I still couldn't get it right." She said which made him chuckle.
"That's because your sister is strict and very harsh when it comes to teaching…" He said as he leaned down to pick up her weapon that she had laid on the floor. He then stood up straight and handed it to her. He then gently grabbed her wrist and turned her around so she would be facing the window.
"Focus your mind and body. Let your thoughts be only on the glyph." He said in a calm and gentle tone. Weiss blushed for a moment as Uzziel was extremely close to her. Uzziel's chest was on her back while his chin was on her left shoulder. His right hand was gently holding her forearm making sure that she was perfectly positioned.
"From what I remember your sister said that you need to think of your fallen foes! The ones who forced you to push past where you were, and become who you are now. Think of them, and they will come to your side." He said.
Weiss closed her eyes and took a deep breath before opening them again. Weiss lowers Myrtenaster and assumed her Summoning position. The glyph appears and this time Weiss looks at the portrait of the Arma Gigas on the wall. She repeats the same twirl and stab as Uzziel lets go of her. The glyph glows brightly and spins faster.
The books shake in the bookcase on the wall. One particular tome, decorated with floral relief, falls off the shelf and opens on the floor.
The window bursts outward as the room is consumed in bright white light. The light abates to reveal Weiss covering her eyes with her arm. The door to her room is pushed open by an urgent Klein Sieben.
"Miss Schnee! Are you alright?!" He asked.
The butler's eyes widen and he leans backward, looking amazed. Weiss smiles at him and turns to face the Arma Gigas she successfully Summoned. "Yes." The Arma Gigas goes down to one knee and bows at Weiss.
Uzziel walked over to Weiss and put a hand on her shoulder "It looks like our little princess has blossomed into a queen." Uzziel praised as Weiss looked at him and smiled.
Klein's eyes widened as he noticed that Uzziel was in the room as well. "Master Kiyoshi! It's good to see you." He said.
Uzziel smiled at him "Likewise Klein." He replied.
"Klein, I need a favor," Weiss said as he looked at the broken window. Klein nods determinedly in response.
Meanwhile…
Outside of her home on Patch, Yang Xiao Long spray paints her robotic arm and half of Ember Celica bright yellow. She goes into a tool shed and takes the tarp that had been covering her motorcycle, Bumblebee, off.
"I don't remember saying that you were ready."
Taiyang was leaning against the frame of the open shed door, arms crossed. "Oh yeah? You're gonna try and stop me?" Yang asked without turning around to look at him.
Taiyang chuckled "No. I think I'm still too sore after our last fight. I just wanted a better goodbye than a letter. And, I also have a question for you."
Yang turned around to face him as he continued to talk, "Where are you going?"
"What do you mean?" she asked.
Taiyang pressed off the wall and started moving into the shed "Well, despite asking him numerous times not to, I know that Qrow told you where your mother's been at these days. I know how much you wanna see her. I've stopped you in the past, but I won't anymore. And we both read the note. We know your sister's headed to Mistral. So, where are you going?"
"Yeah Yang, where are we going?"
Taiyang and Yang looked at the door to see Lance standing there with his hands in his pockets. Yang and Taiyang both looked at each other and smiled before looking back at him "I take it you're deciding to go with her." Taiyang said.
Lance nodded looking at Taiyang and walked towards him "I had spoken to her about it earlier, I just needed to run it by Miyabi and you, sir." Lance stated as he was now standing in front of Taiyang.
"We're going to the same place so Miyabi doesn't mind if I travel with Yang, but you're her father so I need your approval as well," Lance said.
Yang chuckled at this sight and waved her hand "Lance… I don't think you need to-"
"For the amount of time I've known Yang, we've grown very close and look out for one another. She's a good person and a close friend, I wanna help her out any way I can." He explained.
Taiyang looked at him for a moment with a serious look on his face before smiling. "Miyabi gave me more than enough reason to trust you. I know you'll look out for her… not saying that she needs it, of course." He said as he shook Lance's hand.
Yang smirked at his comment while Lance nodded. "You got a point." He replied. He then turned his sights towards Yang and smiled "So Yang, where are we going?" He asked.
Yang looks down at the tarp as Taiyang and Lance watched. She remained gazing down for another couple of beats before looking up at them. Her eyes narrow in determination, her decision made.
Now meanwhile back at the Schnee mansion...
Weiss and Uzziel step out of her bedroom, with Uzziel carrying a white suitcase and Weiss, Myrtenaster. She looks around cautiously, her footsteps loudly resonating in the ornate hallway. She jumps and gasps when Klein appears right behind her. He puts his finger to his lips and shushes her before smiling.
"Let's go." He whispered.
The three of them move quickly across the carpet, their footsteps muffled. Side by side, they go down the staircase and clickety-clack their way across the entrance hall. They are moving down another hallway when Klein's Scroll buzzes. They all look at it with squinty eyes.
"Master Whitley! I... um... yes, of course. I'll be just a moment." He said before he clicks his Scroll off and tucks it away.
"Head to the first-floor library. I'll meet you there." He whispered to Weiss.
They separate, going in opposite directions. "Why couldn't I just fly out of here with you?" Uzziel asked.
Weiss shook her as she kept moving "Father has many cameras around the mansion I know you know where they are but it's better to be safe than sorry. If he saw you flying out of here with me in your arms, he'd call the Atlas Military to take you into custody." She explained which made Uzziel sigh knowing she was right.
Weiss and Uzziel were soon creeping outside her father's study door when she hears a glass crash followed by the rising voice of James Ironwood. She and Uzziel crouch behind a cushioned chair against the wall.
"You need to control yourself!" Ironwood demanded.
"You're talking to me about control? Do you even hear what you're saying?" Jacques asked in disbelief.
"I am basing everything on my reports from your daughter," Ironwood replied rather quickly.
"A daughter you stole!" Jacques said as he glared at Ironwood.
Weiss moves closer to the door to listen while Uzziel stood behind her. "Oh, we are not getting into that again," Ironwood said sternly.
"Oh, yes, we have far more pressing matters to discuss, starting with your apparent lunacy!" Jacques mocked.
"Jacques!" Ironwood slammed both hands on Jacques's desk.
Ironwood sighed heavily "Winter is one of my best. If she's telling me there's a threat in Mistral then I am not going to take that news lightly. She's been there for weeks, people are mobilizing, sudden spikes in weapons and Dust trades. Someone is about to make a play and I do not trust Leo to stop them."
"You've never trusted anyone other than yourself!" Jacques stated.
"And for good reason!" Ironwood shouted.
Weiss covers her mouth with her hand as she gasps at the sound of Ironwood slamming his fist onto the desk. Uzziel put a hand on her shoulder which made her look at him. "If Oz had just listened to me from the start…"
Jacques looked at him with a stern expression, "You need to get a grip."
"That's exactly what I'm doing. Our people need protection. By this time next week, the Kingdom of Atlas will be officially closing its borders. No one in; no one out. Without the council's permission." Ironwood responded.
"You mean, without your permission?" Jacques asked making sure he was right about his assumption.
Ironwood pushed off Jacques desk and looked at him "And if that becomes the case, I would think you'd want to be on my good side." Ironwood walks away from the desk, leaving Jacques to sigh and fold his hands. Outside the door, Weiss hears him coming and uses Myrtenaster to cast a black Glyph onto the handle. When Ironwood tries to leave, the handle turns but the door will not open, despite him shaking it.
"It's locked," he said
"What are you talking about?" Jacques asked.
Ironwood steps back and slams into the door, shoulder first. It does not budge. Weiss turns to grab Uzziel's wrist and makes her way down the hall across the carpet while a couple more bangs come from the door.
They reach the library, but it was empty. "Klein! Klein, where are you?" She asked as she looked around. Uzziel tapped her shoulder and pointed towards a hidden door in the corner that opened, revealing Klein.
"Keep your voice down, I told you I'd be here." He said with an accent as his eyes were now red-colored.
Weiss rushes over, dropping both sword and suitcase to hug Klein with both arms. He returns the hug and his eyes turn back to normal.
"Are you sure Mistral is safe?" He asked.
"No, but it's where I'll find Winter. Besides, if things get rough I'll have Uzziel there to help me." She said while stepping back and clasping her hands formally in front of her.
"I suppose she'll be the only family you have left after tonight," Klein said as his eyes were now light brown.
Weiss put her hand on his shoulder and smiled "I'll always have you." She said.
"You most certainly will. Take care of her Master Kiyoshi." Klein said as he looked at Uzziel.
Uzziel nodded and smiled "I will Klein, that's a promise." He replied.
A loud bang from further in the house makes them both look. Ironwood has finally gotten out of Jacques' study.
"Klein?! Klein, get down here this instant!" Jacques ordered.
Klein's shoulders slump. "Go, now." He said. Weiss grabs Uzziel and goes through the secret passage in the corner of the library. She pauses to turn and look at the butler one more time.
"Thank you, Klein." She said. He nods and shuts the door.
Everyone was now on their way towards Haven Regulus and his team were seen walking down a road passing a sign that said, Mistral. Nolorona was on a boat that was taking him straight to Mistral. He was looking up at the sky and seemed to be deep in thought. Jarvin who had finally returned was seen sitting in Miyabi's car as they were saying goodbye to Taiyang. Yang was driving her motorcycle while Lance was holding on to her.
Qrow is seen sitting at a bar sometime later, having a drink. A young boy with a tanned skin color walked over to him. He had a faint, perpetual blush and freckles on his cheeks. His hair is black and his eyes are hazel, the main iris being forest green, with accents of burnt orange and yellow around the pupil.
He wore a dirty and scuffed white shirt that laces across the chest. The sleeves are rolled up to his elbows, and there is a pocket on the left tricep. Orange suspenders hold up his olive pants, which are tucked into worn, brown boots. The pants are patched over the knee, and a quilted cloth hangs loosely out of his left pocket. He wears orange gloves, with green straps overlapping across the back of the hand in an X shape, and around the wrist. His neck was wrapped with a torn bandage.
"Excuse me?" He called out
Qrow turns around to face the boy.
"You know, I don't think they allow kids in here, pipsqueak," Qrow said.
The boy looks at his left arm as it moves "Shut up, I'm getting there."
Qrow gives him a questioning look.
"Um, I'm supposed to tell you, I'd like my cane back?" Qrow's eyes widen for a moment in surprise. "It's good to see you again, Oz." Qrow withdraws Ozpin's Cane in its compact mode and tosses it to the boy, who presses a button on the hilt, extending the baton. Oscar grasps the baton with the other hand, surprised, before looking at Qrow with a determined face.
