Bella's Point of View
The past few weeks has been some of the most stressful weeks of my life. I know that the stress wasn't good for me or the baby, but it couldn't be helped.
Edward and I have been visiting with Rene and Charlie as often as we can. I wanted my parents to get a good sense of who Edward was and how he made me feel. I wanted them to understand that I wasn't just being an overly emotional teenage girl; with raging hormones. I didn't want them to think we were just jumping into a relationship, purely because of Demetri and I breaking up.
Rene was completely supportive of my choice and quickly warmed up to Edward. While Charlie was still skeptical. However, he never said anything negative. He only expressed his concerns that it was to soon for me to be entering another serious relationship.
And as good of a point he was making; Edward and I knew that this was right. It was something that I knew deep down in my heart. Edward Cullen was my soul mate.
It took about two months for Charlie to completely warm up to Edward. To my relief they were beginning to spend some bonding time together. Charlie and Edward went out hunting and fishing a few times. There was also a few times that Darius tagged along with them.
I was really pleased that Darius was really trying to get along with Edward. He was putting forth effort and I really hoped that he would eventually accept Edward.
Tonight, would be the night that I would break the news to all of them. My parents decided on having a little dinner party tonight. They invited some of their friends from Washington. I planned on revealing my pregnancy when their friends left for the night.
I was standing in the kitchen with Rene; attempting to help her with the dinner for tonight. She was trying a new recipe. I had warned her that it might not be the best idea to try out new recipes for a party. But she was excited and wanting to really impress our party guests. Unfortunately, the food didn't look to appealing and had an odd ordor. I didn't have much faith.
Charlie was in the living room, chugging down a beer; watching the baseball game. He looked completely content, with little greg sleeping peacefully in his arms.
Edward and Darius sat with each other on the couch across from Charlie. They talked back and forth with each other. I listened closely. I wanted to know what they were discussing.
"Do you think we can go skiing again?" Darius wondered, a grin coming to his face. "I think I'm really getting good at it."
"We'll have to ask your mother, but I don't see why not." Edward chuckled with a bob of his head.
Darius looked excitedly in my direction, but when we made eye contact, an emotion danced in his eyes that I couldn't dechiper. He looked away and over to Charlie.
"Have you ever skiied grandpa?"
Charlie laughed, giving Darius an amused look. "Nah, I was never really the athletic type. But grandma was, she used to ice skate."
That was news to me. I had know idea that my mother skated. I guess that inherited Charlie's lack of coordination.
Rene must have heard Charlie talking and popped her head out. "Its true, I've skated my whole life. I've always been a good at winter sports. Skiing, snow boarding, you name it, I became a master of it."
Greg whimpered for a minute, getting everyone's attention. Charlie rocked him slowly, leaning down to give him a little peck on his forehead. "Are you hungry little guy?"
Rene opened her arms. "Here, let my have him, I'll get him a bottle."
Charlie passed him over to her and watched fondly as they disappeared back into the kitchen. He then turned to me with a sly smile. "I can still remember when you were that small. You almost never cried. Not like your little brother."
"I want hear what mom was like as a baby." Darius said with an amused smile.
That was my cue, to quietly make my way back into the kitchen, just as Charlie was beginning to share embarrassing moments in my childhood.
It was a good thing that I did, because the food on the stove was now burnt black and the room was starting to fill with smoke. I quickly went to the stove and turned it off, covering the pans with lids.
"Mom, I think we should... just order a pizza." I called out towards her.
She had be so preoccupied with little Greg, she didn't notice our dinner was starting to burn and catch fire.
"Oh shoot," She muttered, walking over to me; looking towards the scorched food. "I should have listened to you and made something less complicated."
I laughed, lightly stroking Greg's head. "It's ok mom, hang tight, I'll order us a few pizzas."
"Thanks sweetheart,"
Suddenly there was a couple knocks on the door, bringing both of our attention to the door.
"That must be them." Rene said looking nervous. Quickly she went out towards the living room to answer the door.
Curiosity burned inside of me.
I didn't know who they had invited, they wouldn't give me any names. They said they wanted to surprise me. So, I moved to the living room to see the guests enter.
The second I saw who it was, I felt my jaw drop.
There standing in the doorway, was Billy Black and his son. I couldn't place the boy's name. Maybe Jack? It's been so long since I've seen those two. I recalled spending a little time with the boy, but he was much younger than me. I spent more time playing with his older sisters. Rachel and Rebecca Black.
Charlie jumped up from his seat to shake Billy's hand. "Glad you could make it Billy." He looked delighted.
But for some reason Billy looked completely uncomfortable and almost a little angry. Billy and Edward locked eyes briefly, but neither commented.
"It's good to see you Charlie," Billy spoke, giving each of us a cautious look. "I wasn't expecting to see a Cullen here."
The boy gave his father a look. "Not like it's a problem, right dad. We are just here to see our friends."
Billy didn't comment.
"Oh, I had no idea that you knew Edward, lovely." Rene said with a bright smile. "Small world."
Charlie watched curiously between Billy and Edward. "Why don't you guys get comfortable. Apparently we will be ordering pizza for tonight. Hope you don't mind."
"Not at all." The boy said with a smile. He moved to sit next to Darius.
As they sat next to each other I was shocked for a moment how close they looked to the same age. It broke my heart. My son was growing so fast. Surely Charlie and Rene had to notice. They had to know that something wasn't right here.
"Hi, I'm Darius." Darius held his hand out to the boy with a eager smile.
"Jacob Black, nice to meet you." The boy said with a grin. "So, what are you... Bella's brother?"
Darius bursted out laughing, which caused Charlie and Rene to laugh as well. Edward and I looked at each other. His expression mirrored mine.
"No, she's my mom." Darius said with a raised brow.
Jacob's eyes nearly popped out of his head as he looked over in my direction. "Do you mind... telling me how old you are?"
I blushed, ducking my head. "I'm eighteen,"
"And how old are you?" Jacob asked turning back to Darius.
Darius had a thoughtful look on his face; pausing for a moment before answering.
"Jacob, don't be rude." Billy interupted, giving his son a reproachful look.
"Sorry," Jacob muttered, looking away.
I was relieved that Billy had jumped into the conversation. If my parents weren't suspicious they had to be now. Well... I mean I'm sure Charlie was. Rene was usually always blissfully unaware of what was happening around her.
"Well, I'm going to order us some pizza, why don't you join the others Bella. I can handle this much." Rene said with a smile, passing little Greg to Charlie.
I nodded and quietly went to Edward's side to sit next to him. I laid my head on his shoulder and tried to relax. Edward placed his hand on my lap; rubbing soothing circles against the material of my pants.
Billy watched us with open disbelief and horror.
Did Billy Black know? Did he know about vampires? Maybe it was a bad idea to come. But it was to late now. There is no way Darius would want to leave, especially now that he was talking and getting along with Jacob.
Charlie again got Billy's attention by introducing Billy to his new son. "I'd like you to meet little Greg."
Billy wheeled over to get a better look at the baby. His eyes lightened. "He looks like you Charlie. He reminds me of Bella as a baby."
Please don't redirect this conversation back to me as a child. I wasn't sure I could escape it again. And I wasn't sure that I wanted to leave Edward out here on his own. Not until I knew it Billy knows about vampires.
Charlie and Billy talked amongest each other, about sports, little Greg, beer; just about everything you could imagine. Darius and Jacob talked, eventually they walked out the door together to throw the football back and forth. Darius begged Edward to come and join in on their game; which of course he did.
Which left me and Rene.
Rene sat beside me on the couch now, taking Edward's spot. She got comfortable; taking a big swig of beer. "Would you like a beer Bella?"
I looked at her in surprise. "No thank you... I'm not really old enough to be drinking." Not to mention I was pregnant, there was no way I was going to drink alcohol.
"It's ok, I won't tell your father." She said with a wink, as she handed me a can of beer. "It's a party Bella."
I shook my head, feeling my face get warm again as everyone looked in my direction. "No thank you." I said lightly putting the beer down on the coffee table.
Instantly a flash of emotion entered Rene's eyes. A bubbly smile came to her face as she looked towards my stomach. "Bella... you aren't..."
Charlie and Billy both paused in their conversation to look at me with concern.
I swallowed hard, my heart bounding in my chest. "I-I... uhm, well... I wanted to talk with you about that... privately."
Rene's expression changed, as she looked from me to Charlie and Billy. "Oh, I'm sorry dear... I didn't meant to... ruin the surprise." She said quietly.
"What are you two talking about?" Charlie asked, raising a brow.
Billy appeared to have gone pale as he stared openly at me. Rene was watched me as well, looking guilty.
I cleared my throat, avoiding eye contact with Billy. I tried to just keep my attention on my father. It was only his reaction that I was worried about. I couldn't care less what Billy Black thought of me.
"I'm... pregnant." I said chewing my lip.
I didn't want to come out and say it. I had planned to have reveal it in a cute way. But, now that it was out in the open... I didn't feel a bit relieved.
Charlie's eyes widened as he looked down at my stomach. "A-again? Are you sure?"
I nodded, slightly shifting my shirt to reveal a small baby bump that I've been hiding with oversized clothing for the last month.
Rene beamed, lightly touching my stomach. "Oh, my god. We are grandparents again. And this time we will be here to help support you."
I was thankful that Rene wasn't angry or dissapointed in me. It was just Charlie's reaction that I was waiting to see.
Charlie looked visibly nauseated as he looked at me. "Bella. Don't think for a minute that I'm upset about this. Because, I'm glad that you didn't choose to run away. But I have to know... who the father is."
"It's Edward's baby." I said quietly.
The room was quiet now, the only one that seemed even remotely happy was Rene. Charlie stood up, with a serious look on his face.
"I'll be right back," He said simply.
"Dad, where are you going?"
"Just to have a chat with mr. Cullen." He replied with an even tone.
"Don't, please don't get upset with him. This wasn't intentional."
Charlie gave my shoulder a reasuring squeeze. "Relax Bells, I'm not going out to arrest him. As much as I'd like to... I just want to talk with him. I should have had this talk with Demetri. This time I'd like to be on the same page with who my daughter is involved with. I want him to understand my expectations. And if he isn't willing to meet them... I'm not willing to permit you to see him."
"Dad..." I sighed. "Please... not in front of Darius... he doesn't know yet."
"I'll send your boy in. Edward and I are going for a little walk." He said with a serious look. "And that's final."
Charlie than walked out of the room.
This was turning out to be one of the worst night's I've had in a while. And it only seems to be getting worse by the second. Billy appeared disturbed as he turned his attention to the television. He wouldn't make eye contact with me.
After just a few minutes Jacob and Darius came in with six pizza boxes. "Hey, the pizza guy came. Let's eat." Jacob said with a grin.
"Yeah, I'm starving." Darius said eagerly digging into the pizza.
Rene and I got some pizza, but Billy remained in his space, tuning us out, ignoring that we existed and just watched the game. His thoughts seemed to be in a different place. It wasn't until Charlie and Edward returned that he calmed down.
Edward and Charlie came back smiling to my relief. Charlie instantly dug into the pizza. While Edward sat down on the other side of me.
I leaned on him, feeling much better with him next to me. He pecked my cheek with a chuckle. "I'll tell you later." He spoke quietly into my ear.
I felt like I was starving as well, I eat a bunch of slices of pizza; more than I would normally eat. But it just felt like I couldn't eat enough. Charlie noticed, and gave me an amused smile.
"Didn't eat today?" He asked raising a brow.
I shook my head. "Actually I've been eating all day... I just have a big appetite anymore." I shrugged my shoulders.
Suddenly Greg started to fuss in Rene's arms.
"I think little Greg is hungry too." Darius said with a grin. "Is he allowed to eat pizza to?"
Rene chuckled as she rocked Greg back and forth slowly. "Afraid not sweetheart, he has to eat baby food."
"I can't wait until little Greg is old enough to play with." Darius said with a bright smile.
"It would be pretty nice to have a sibling, huh?" Charlie said with a curious grin. "You would make a great older brother."
Darius nodded with a heavy sigh. "Yeah, I've always wanted a sibling... but it's impossible now. My parents split up."
"That doesn't necessarily mean you can't have a sibling. By the looks of it, your mom is dating Edward now. So, it is possible." Jacob said nudging Darius.
Darius made a face. "Gross, shut up." He gave Jacob a push. "I don't even want to think about that." He muttered.
The suspense was beginning to kill me. I wanted to tell Darius so badly. But I didn't want to do it in front of Billy and Jacob. Just in case Darius didn't react well.
I just had to remain patient and wait.
The night drug on much longer than I thought it would. There was a lot of talking, drinking and even a few games. It was a lot of fun. The only one that didn't seem to be having a good time with Billy Black. He couldn't calm down long enough to carry on much conversation and he refused to join in on any of the games. Charlie noticed and after a while, gave up on trying to include him.
Around ten o' clock, Billy and Jacob said their goodbyes. Apparently they are staying at a hotel for the rest of the week. They are planning on doing some hunting and fishing with Charlie this week.
Rene had laid down Greg and was now waiting with Charlie on the couch. Darius sat between them; not looking tired at all. Edward and I sat on the couch in front of them.
"Darius, I have a presents for you." I said with a nervous smile.
"Really? Why? it's not my birthday."
"Nope, but... well... here. Just open this." I said lightly handing him over the box.
Darius excitedly ripped into the box, which revealed a shirt. The shirt had the words on it 'Big brother'.
We all sat there, anxiously watching for his reaction. The room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Darius sat there in silence, reading the shirt. His expression was blank.
"What does this mean?" He looked to me.
"It means... you are going to be a big brother." I said slowly.
Darius' eyes started to water as he looked between me and the shirt. "Are you serious? You are having another baby?"
My eyes watered as well. "Yes,"
His face turned completely red, he looked to Edward with a glare on his face. "And you are the father?"
Edward stayed quiet, but nodded.
"Darius isn't this great news, you always wanted a sibling." Rene said with an anxious look on her face.
"No..." He grumbled, turning away from all of us. "No that baby won't be my sibling. Not if their father is Edward."
His words completely broke my heart. I had to get up in leave the room for a minute. I didn't want anyone to notice how much that hurt.
"Bella honey." Rene said watching me with concern in her eyes.
"I'm just going to get a drink." I said attempting to hide the sorrow in my eyes. But I knew that everyone saw the pain.
I just had to get out of the room for a minute to calm myself down. But I only felt worse as I stood alone in the kitchen. I wasn't upset with Darius, he had every right to feel that way. This whole thing with Demetri and I splitting up was still a tender topic with him. He loved his father and I knew that.
But it was hard to hear that he wouldn't accept this baby... just because it belonged to Edward. I had no idea that he really didn't like Edward that much. I thought they were beginning to warm up to each other.
I took a few big breathes and sat down at the bar. I let my head rest in my arms. I closed my eyes just for a short amount of time, but it was just long enough for me to fall asleep.
When I woke up, I looked towards the clock in the kitchen. It was nearly midnight now.
My heart dropped and I quickly jumped up and went flying back into the living room. Everyone was still sitting there, but there was no longer tension in the room.
Darius looked over to me with guilt in his eyes. "Mom, I'm sorry that I said that... I didn't mean it."
"Are you being honest with me? Because I want to know what you are really thinking."
He nodded, a sour look coming to his face. "I was just... mad because this baby isn't going to have my dad... as a dad... and I thought it was unfair."
"Unfair," I said raising a brow.
Darius got up, moving over to me, to give me a hug. "Yeah, the baby is luck that they have a nice dad... they don't ever have to worry about him doing bad things."
I looked at him, feeling tears slide down my face again. "Oh Darius." I held him close. "I'm sorry... about your father."
"Its not your fault." He said quietly.
For a moment the room was quiet, before Charlie spoke up. "Darius, if something ever happens again... that your father tries to pressure you into doing something wrong, you call me. Understand?"
Darius nodded. "OK, grandpa."
"What did he do now?" I asked, watching down at him.
"He wanted me to hurt someone... someone young and innocent. And I almost did. But Alice stopped me."
Instantly I figured it all out. Jada. That girl that Alice and Darius had showed up with months ago. Alice had said that she turned her. But that didn't add up. Had Darius turned her?
The thought upset me. I held back from showing my concern. This would be something I would need to talk with him about in privacy.
"I didn't know the whole situation, you didn't mention any of this to us." Rene said looking to me with a serious look.
"It's nothing I wanted to talk about." I said simply. "Things have been really hard and I didn't want to complicate things any further."
"You should have told us." Charlie nodded in agreement. "We would have been a little more understanding with Edward joining the family. We where under the assumption that you were just having a bad fight. We had thought you were just... running away from a little problem." He admitted with a sigh. "So when you started bringing Edward around... I was concerend."
"If that man ever comes near this house, I'll have him arrested. He sounds like he has completely lost his mind. He isn't fit for anyone to be around." Rene said with a frown. "And I'd appreciate if Darius wasn't permitted to return to him, without someone supervising."
Darius nodded, looking at me with tear stained cheeks. "If it was up to me, I'd never go back over again."
My heart ached. "He would never let that happen. If he doesn't see you at least once a week... he gets pretty angry."
"I know, that's why I put up with it every weekend. But I just don't want to do it anymore." He admitted, shrugging his shoulders. "He makes me... feel like a monster."
Rene sniffed; looking sad. "Oh honey, we all know that you are a little different. But you aren't a monster. You're not like others your age, that doesn't mean it's a bad thing."
What did Rene mean? Did she know something? Or did she just notice that my son was growing at an abnormal rate.
Edward was staying quiet, but he watched everyone as they spoke up. He looked to me a few times; worry was clear in his eyes.
"So... you're alright... in regards to the baby?" I asked, watching Darius.
He nodded, gesturing down to the shirt he was now where. "I put the shirt on. I'm ready to accept this. I just... had a moment." He admitted with a look of embarrassment. "I can't wait to meet the baby." He smiled widely.
This relieved me more than I could admit.
"I'm glad," I said pulling him in for another hug. "You are going to be a great big brother."
He hugged me lightly, touching my stomach for just a moment. "I hope it's a boy." He muttered.
I laughed a little bit. "I'm not sure what it will be."
Rene spoke up now, a excited smile on her face. "As soon as you get a sonogram you're going to have to get me a copy. I'm making a scrap book."
Now that the conversation turned lighter, I could breath easy. The hard part was over. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I just hoped the rest of the months to come would be just as easy.
But knowing our luck... that probably won't be the case.
If you want an update, please leave a review. It isn't much, but it makes my day hearing what you all think.
