The Beginning

Light poured over the mountains into the fields of war. The survivors were flooded with wave after wave of emotions. Relief, Joy, Hope, Sadness, Grief and much more. The loss of their companions was a heavy burden on their hearts as not everyone had been fortunate enough to survive the war. Both sides had suffered losses, losses that would be remembered until the end of time.

Across the battlefield the beings of Darkness were fleeing, their puppet-master destroyed, they no longer had the courage or the will to face against those who walked in the light. Some chose to chase them down, to ensure that their friends sacrifices would not be in vain and that those who walked the path of evil would answer for their crimes but many chose to sit, to fall to the floor and watch as the sun continued to rise on a new day.

Of the champions, each was experiencing the light in a different way. Jake and Phoebe were carrying Finn back to the HQ. They were making their way around the many Gunters who had decided to try and guard the entrance.

"Jake? What exactly are they doing? It's over, isn't it?" Phoebe Flame asked as she stroked Finn's golden hair lightly. His breathing was steady and his sleep seemed peaceful. Jake's face stretched into a massive grin as he shook with excitement.

"You will never believe what happened when we caught Finn! We didn't just help save a life!" He responded before stretching them straight into the tent where they were greeted by a rather sweet sight. Jake set Finn down carefully on a bench as Phoebe rushed over to greet the baby Belle. She was sleeping sweetly in her mother's arms. Phoebe looked as they cradled her with such love and warmth that she herself felt the heat from them. As she got near Bonnie looked up at her and beamed a smile. She stood up and went to pass Baby Belle to her when Phoebe tried to protest.

"Bonnie.. I'm not sure it's safe.." Phoebe started to protest when Bonnie gave her no choice as she gently pushed Belle into her arms.

"Phoebe, I trust you with my life and the lives of those I love. I know that by your side she will never come to harm. I trust you." Bonnie stroked Belle's cheek affectionately as she smiled at Phoebe. In her arms, she could feel the light breathing of the gum drop girl. Phoebe felt her own heart grow warmer as she came to realise that, through time and struggles, she and Bonnie had truly become friends with no more pain between them. All those many months ago, as she lay on her bed with nothing but regret on her heart, she could never have imagined everything she had dreamt would be hers. Finn was by her side once more, her mother was back and her father was no longer an enemy to overcome. And now, after years of needless hate and pointless rejection, she stood holding the most precious treasure that Bonnie had ever created. Her baby girl. Phoebe felt the tears start to swell in her eyes as she truly felt happy, more than she ever had before.

Jake stretched over and was greeted by the sleeping child. Phoebe carefully passed her to him as she rushed to hug Bonnie. Jake looked up at Bubba when was sitting happily watching over them both.

"She's beautiful Bubba." Jake rocked her in his arms before passing her back to her father. He sat in a chair beside Bubba before stretching one of his legs into a cradle for the baby. Bubba smiled before laying her down with a soft touch. He used the cape as a blanket and tucked her in loosely so she wouldn't feel trapped.

"Thank you Jake. Thank you so much. You helped bring her into this world, the right way." Jake rocked her gently by swaying his foot.

"What do you mean?"

"We were going to try creating her in the lab when we got home. Making our perfect little girl because we both knew that without her we would never be complete. Never truly be able to exist anymore without that emptiness inside when all along what was inside us was her. She came to us exactly when we needed her to, for this new beginning." Bubba's eyes looked like they were looking beyond the scene before him. As if the moment was just the start of something bigger.

"The Beginning?" Jake repeated quietly. It was true, without the darkness, the evil as old as time if not older the world was ready to finally live. Unbound by hate, free from looming destruction, their lives could now truly begin anew.

"I wonder how long it will take them…" Bubba muttered to himself. Jake picked up on it, however, it helps to have a dog's hearing.

"How long it'll take who?"

"How long it will take all of our friends to make their way back to us?" Bubba and Jake both looked over Finn as he slept peacefully. Jake began to chuckle quietly, he knew his usual laugh would wake the baby and was used to laughing quietly with Lady by his side.

"I don't know, but they'll come home. They always do." Jake put his arm on Bubba, feeling for the first time the deep friendship their future selves shared.

Unaware of the new life that had bloomed on the battlefield and the friendships growing stronger Marceline was still sitting in the crater they had caused when they crashed into Ooo. Lumen was sleeping his her arms, his breathing seemed a little sharp but she knew he would be okay. She stroked his hair from his face and watched with a mix of happiness and worry. He was alive, he had kept his promise and survived to stay by her side but at the same time, as if being flaunted by his skin, his powers were gone. His life would never be the same, the things he could do and the hope he brought to everyone now used as a final trump card against the darkness. When he woke up the world would be different once more. He was Human and nothing more.

"Mum.." Marceline looked up to see her daughter, relieved to see she looked exactly the same as she last saw her.

"Hope.. you're okay?"

"For now.. The timeline hasn't caught up to me yet. Dad took my powers, I can't use them and I can't feel them. I'm just like Hunter now but I've never used my demon powers… so more like a Human than anything."

"And there's nothing wrong with that Hope!" She sat down beside her mother and hugged her. Marcy looked up to see Grim and Isabella standing over them. She nodded to her as if to say that there were no hard feelings but somehow Marcy thought that they'd never be the same as they once were.

"He's going to be okay Mum.."

"I know sweetie.."

"But you doubt yourself… I may not be the all powerful me but I know my mum." Hope chuckled as Marceline leant over and kissed her forehead gently.

"I wish all those years ago I knew that one day I'd have the two of you in my life. It would have made all those hardships and pain seem like nothing to one day be blessed with this idiot and my amazing daughter." Hope laughed again as she realised that no matter what her parents would never change. Her dad, the hopeless romantic, and her mother, the battle hardened dame.

"...Well you have a few more years to go but I came to say goodbye Mum." Hope said softly, she knew that she was returning to her own timeline version of her parents but somehow it still felt like she was leaving for good. Marcy span her head to look Hope in the face, she grabbed her tightly and pulled her into her arms.

"..I don't really know what to say honey.." Marceline started to sob as she held onto Hope. Hope grabbed tightly at her top as if she didn't want to ever let go.

"Just tell me you love me.. And we'll see each other soon." Marcy tried to hold back her tears as she prepared to bid her farewell. She let Lumen lay on the floor before standing up to face her daughter.

"Well kiddo. It's been a blast but it's time for you to go home. Your parents will be wondering where you got to. I love you more than you could ever hope to know.. And we will see you soon. I'll make sure of that." She winked at Hope who moaned at her for being gross but she ran into her and hugged her tightly.

"Hope.." The pair looked down to see Lumen talking in his sleep. They started to laugh together for the final time, Hope kissed her Mum on the cheek before waving goodbye and running away from her. Marcy continued to watch her until she disappeared from her sight when she felt a tug on her arm.

"Bells?" Marcy stated surprised as Isabella stood beside her now.

"I'm afraid that's not the only goodbye we'll have for now."

"What do you mean?"

"...I'm going to go with Grim. He thinks that we can have our world back to normal really soon and that we shouldn't waste too much time. Without my powers I'm human again. I've asked that he leaves my memories, at least the good ones. I don't ever want to forget Ivel, Simon or you. Any of you but it's time for me to finally go home." Isabella was herself trying to fight her tears as Marcy grabbed her and held her close. Bella could feel her sobbing as she cried into her shoulder.

"Aren't you even going to say goodbye to him?"

"I can't… I don't think I'd ever be able to say goodbye to Ivel. I think no matter what I thought he'd be able to convince me to stay."

"Then why don't you?"

"Mum and Dad… Well they'll be your in laws. When they get revived I don't want them to be without both their children. Plus this isn't my world, it's his now though. I knew from the moment Grim offered that this is what I wanted. To return home but I think trying to make him choose might just break his heart."

"I'm going to miss you.."

"Me too big sis."

"I'll look after him."

"I don't doubt it. Just tell him for me that this time, He's the one being left behind and if he wants to see me, he'll find a way."

"We'll find a way." Marcy and Bella split apart both smiling while wiping away their tears.

"Oh and tell Simon I said thank you." Marcy nodded in response. Bella knelt down and kissed Lumen on the forehead.

"Goodbye brother. I'm sure you will find a way back to me as I did to you. Although I hope that when you find me we can truly be a family again." Isabella whispered to him as he slept before standing up, drying her tears and running straight to Grim. He waved goodbye to Marceline before the pair turned to smoke before her eyes. Marceline bent down and lifted Lumen into her arms before flying into the air, she would take him back to their own family and hope that when he awoke he wouldn't feel too down about them leaving. She looked up at the rising sun, feeling it's warmth caress her skin, a new day had begun.

Above the battlefield, under the sun's rays Fionna and Marshall still floated in each others arms. Neither wanted to let go or move, both just finding the bliss in being by each other's side.

"We should go meet up with the others Fi" Marshall broke the silence as the pair started to descend down towards Ooo. Fionna pulled back enough to look up at his face and meet his gaze.

"Really? Now of all times is when you want to actually go and meet everyone? No jokes about staying here just the two of us or finding a way to fill the time?" She questioned with suspicion. Marshall started to laugh out loud as he heard her response. He leant back, letting her lay across his chest and looked down into her eyes.

"Of course I want you all to myself but I think, just for today, I can share. After all, we have eternity to be a family together. Me, you, Hunter, Huntress and Jade."

"Huntress and Jade too?" Fionna tried to hide her smile when he included them.

"Hunter loves her and plans to wait for her, she's important to him so she's important to me and Jade lives in his head, she's basically family already." Marshall took a moment to make sure they were floating in the right direction before turning back and being kissed.

"I love you Marshy.. so much.."

"I love you too Fi but what's brought this on?" He waited for her response but when none came, he began to get worried. The pair had floated down until they reached the ground below. Marshall let Fionna step down and gave her a moment before asking again.

"Fi.. what happened up there?" Marshall had wanted to ask the moment he had caught her but was too wrapped up in the moment. He could see her face drop more as she thought about it, something had happened after all.

"You saw that wave of darkness hit us.. right?"

"Yeah. Me and Marcy were worried but we knew you'd be alright."

"I.." Fionna whispered something to himself that he didn't hear. He raised her chin to meet his gaze as he saw tears swelling in her eyes.

"Oh Fi.. don't be sad my little bunny.. talk to me" Fionna took a minute to compose herself and tried again.

"...I wasn't alright. The Darkness trapped us in a nightmare. It was like our lives but twisted. I'm not sure what happened to the other two but Lumen was skin and bone, he looked like he had never seen light before. His body caved in at strange points and he had all these marks. I recognise them. They were from suicide attempts. He had tried again and again in his nightmare to die. Finn on the other hand just seemed broken. He seemed tired and only seemed to be going because the nightmare was. He was about to kill me when Lumen stopped him." Marshall had wondered why the two boys had fallen from the platform and was still trying to understand what could have happened for them to be the way Fionna was describing.

"But, even with all the horrors they must have seen, they were still good. They were doing what they could to save the day." Hearing this made Marshall want to smile, of course the dork and the light bulb would be the same even in a nightmare but something was bothering him.

"What about you Fi? What happened in your nightmare?"

"We were living together, we were happy. We'd decorated the cave and made a small garden of cave flowers to have a picnic in." Marshall was trying to work out what part of that was a nightmare.

"Then Phoenix turned up. He was pissed that we were together, he called you a monster and a beast. He seemed to think that I was being fooled into loving you. Cake and Bubba had tricked him. He attacked us and I had no choice but to kill him. He was going to kill you but it didn't help. His core exploded and you died shielding me from the blast." She started to sob lightly as she remembered the pain of losing him.

"After you died I went to the Nightosphere to find a way to bring you back. I became their Queen and we invaded Ooo.. I killed all the royalty, weaponized the Fire Kingdom and attacked the Candy Kingdom. I slaughtered Cake and Bubba and all of our friends before forcing Ice Queen to sacrifice all of the surviving citizens to cut open a tear to the Dead Worlds. I was going to kill Lady Death and The Lord of Life when Lumen stopped me. I became a monster. A murderous, unforgiving monster." Fionna's body had started to shake as her hair stood on its end. She was afraid of what she had become in the nightmare. Marshall pulled back his finger and then flicked her on her forehead. It only hurt a little but she looked at him confused.

"It was just a nightmare Fionna.."

"Maybe.. but why am I the only one of us three that turned evil? Why was I so great at being the Queen of Darkness and why do I feel like if I lost you for real.. I might really become that?" Her tears had started to fall heavier as she lamented the nightmares and their horrors. She let her head fall to the floor, hanging heavy with shame.

"Fi.. look at me." Marshall whispered to her softly.

Fionna didn't look up from the ground, or showed any sign that she has heard him.

"Fionna look at me." He raised his voice to no avail. He realised he'd have to bring out the big guns to gain her attention.

"Fionna Mertens! Fi, my beautiful bunny, LOOK AT ME!" Marshall yelled to her, grabbing her hands and breaking her out of her daydreaming. Fionna shot up, not used to Marshall raising his voice. Once he was sure he had got her attention he cleared his throat to speak.

"Fi, do you want to know one of the first reasons I had for falling in love with you?" She nodded quietly in response.

"I saw, beneath the hero facade and the good little girl, someone who could do evil and unspeakable things. A monster wrapped in a candy dressing." Fionna felt her heart sink as he described her. "I really am a monster".

"I thought, here's a girl who knows what it means to be alive. She isn't just good, she isn't evil but she understands it, deep down at least. You were someone with so much potential to be evil, to dominate and rule over Aaa if you had just wanted it enough." She felt like walking away, running, until she was no longer near people who she could hurt.

"But with all that evil potential you were still the best person I knew. You chose to abandon selfishness, greed and many negative emotions. You never abuse your power and instead shielded the weak with your every fibre of being. You were good, too good, I originally thought for me. I thought that someone so special like you would never look at me, that I'd never be good enough because unlike me, you never gave into darkness. I'm sure that it knew that, it knew you'd never had a taste of being evil. You are the Princess of Light Fionna! The embodiment of all that is good. We have a dude whose whole body makeup is half light but you were still more full of hope and light that destiny gave you a new name. You want to know why you were the greatest Queen of Darkness well it's because the strongest light calls forth the greatest shadow. You are so good that if it was reversed you'd probably be the best at being evil. Should you worry about it? No. You are the girl who just saved the multiverse." Fionna's heart seemed to fill to the brim with warmth as she listened to his words. Marshall never hid his feelings but he was rarely as open as this.

"But… what if I lose you?" Marshall started to laugh which got him a rather painful punch.

"Fi.. you died remember? I actually lost you and what did I do? I sacrificed our friend to bring you back. I did it in a heartbeat and Lumen knows I'd do it again. People go crazy because of grief but it's not like the nightmare. It's not just you and me. We have everyone by our side supporting us. We have Hunter on his way too. Even if the worst was to happen and I'm not saying it will but you won't be alone. You will never be alone Fi.." He floated forward and wrapped his arms around her gently. His grip on her was firm and unrelenting, she could finally feel it. How afraid he really was. She wrapped her arms around his waist and nuzzled herself into his chest. She wanted to make sure his scent and every feature was absorbed into her memory.

"You know.. it still doesn't answer the question from before.. about what brought this on." She smiled as she held her head to his chest, she couldn't hear his own heartbeat but hers beat strongly and she likes to imagine they would beat at the same rhythm.

"I just wanted you to know because frankly I find you so amazing I can barely put it into words. You accepted Huntress and Jade as part of our family without a single hesitation. You accepted Hunter for who he is and who he loves and honestly I think the one thing I wish everyone knew about Marshall-Lee The Vampire King is that he is so full of love and kindness that it makes the Hero of Aaa jealous sometimes.." Fionna admitted with a blush of embarrassment. Marshall's face flushed with colour as he started to laugh.

"Aren't we just two peas in a pod. We keep holding each other to these ridiculous standards, never feeling good enough for each other but you know what.. I am good enough for you!"

"And I'm perfect for you.."

"Yes… you are." Marshall went to move in and deliver a very passionate kiss when a light cough behind them made them both turn.

"Sup.. this keeps happening." Marceline stood looking awkward. Lumen was now on her back as she held him up.

"Marcy!" Fionna ran forward and flung her arms around her neck hugging her.

"Whoa easy there girl, you gonna make me drop the wolf bait." Marshall floated over to join them and felt a little guilt return when he saw how pale Lumen was.

"Yo twin is he okay?" Marshall asked concerned. Marceline smiled as she felt his light breathing on her back.

"You know, he's gonna be fine. He's got this special ability to make me worried but then he always turns out just fine. I don't think it'll be easy for him but you and Finn are here for him. He won't be the only human like the weeny or you had to be. I think what'll hit harder is when he knows that Bella and Hope have left." Marceline admitted. She was worried he would feel that he failed them.

"Wait… Hope I get, she's gone back to the future with the others but Isabella..?"

"She went with Grim. Back to Lll. She didn't want her parents to return to find both their kids gone and I think she felt like if she stayed he'd live with the guilt forever."

"That sounds just like our idiot." Marshall ruffled his hair lightly. He looked back to see the girls staring at him.

"What? I owe the weirdo a lot. I know Bubba once spoke to your mum about how all of us from Aaa feel. That Lumen saved Ooo and gave you all better lives full of happiness but honestly I didn't really blame him or hold any hard feelings. I lost both my parents but it was just what was meant to be and in return what did he give me? He gave me Fionna back, he gave us a chance to live and make our own happiness. He let me be able to go outside in the sun with Fionna and not hold her back. He gave me back Simone and so much more. This idiot is like a miracle that dropped into all of our lives and I worry for him. He's so stupid when it comes to his own safety and happiness that I feel like he needs watching over." Marceline stared at Marshall stunned. She had never heard him that open even when it was just the two of them. Fionna, on the other hand, beamed a smile. She was enjoying this new happy Marshall. The one now filled with hope.

"He's like our little kid brother that we have to look after." Fionna chuckled as they all watched him sleeping peacefully.

"Well I'm grateful that it's not just me watching over him. He's kind of a handful but I think it's time to head back to everyone, don't you guys?" She asked with a grin. She and Marshall floated up and went to leave when Fionna called them.

"Oi Marshy! Girl lost her wings remember!?" Marshall turned back with a gigantic grin. He zipped down to her and lifted her into a princess carry. She wrapped her arms around his neck and settled in.

"Are you really that happy to carry me again?" She knew he'd been a little gutted when the sword had given her wings since before he would carry her in his arms.

"Yes." She blushed bright red, maybe a totally honest Marshall was a worrying thought.

"You know guys, this is familiar." The other two thought about what she meant when Marshall remembered.

"The first trial?"

"Yeah. Us four together heading back to everyone else with success on our backs"

"Well I'm all good this time!" Fionna chimed in which made the vampires chuckle again.

"That you are Fi, that you are."

The foursome made their way back to the HQ where they were greeted by a super enthusiastic Jake. They settled Lumen down next to Finn where he continued to sleep. The trio, who were still awake, rushed to meet the new addition to their family. Marceline grabbed Bonnie and the pair laughed happily as they floated around the room. All the hurt and bad feelings that were around before the fight were washed away. Marshall and Fionna fist bumped Bubba who was trying desperately to explain what happened while Marshall teased him. Phoebe and Jake were taking turns to hold Belle and Jake was giving her tips for her own future.

The champions of Ooo and Aaa celebrated throughout the whole day, joined by their other friends and partners. Throughout the two dimensions the forces of good rejoiced in celebration, finally free from the grip of evil.

Inside the Rose Kingdom petals were thrown into the air as the people who had escaped their own fallen world finally saw the end of their nightmares. Ivy had spoken to Death and Grim, discovering their intentions to revive the Dead Lords from all the other dimensions. If they brought them back then one by one the worlds could be brought back to life, free from evil and able to thrive and grow. Ivy had asked for their champion to be spared, knowing that in death Fiolee had finally found the peace they couldn't in life. He had decided to stay in Ooo and his people agreed. They didn't want to forget the efforts to overcome the Darkness but didn't want to return to a world who did not know of the evil. Grim promised that each world would be told of the evil, in songs and poems, in stories told through time. The worlds would know of the Darkness and those that felled it. It brought Ivy some comfort but he decided to stay anyway. Hunter needed him.

A few weeks passed before the shields finally dropped around the Ice Kingdom. Simon and Betty stepped out with baby Cloud in hand. He had grown bigger in his time inside the dome. Ice Finn had used his powers and the time with him to make Clouds more stable. Thanks to the time they were given by Belle and the relics never injuring Betty the future had changed once more, Cloud would grow up with his friends instead of being kept apart. Betty and Bonnie had a lot of fun imagining how their children would grow up together and agreed they should be playmates. Simon was most upset to find that Bella had left but knew it was what would make her happy. He spent some time helping Lumen adjusting to his new life.

Fionna and Marshall went straight into organising the treehouse. Finn had moved into the Fire Kingdom to be closer to Phoebe. He had thought Flame King would protest but he seemed to be doing all he could to get the pair to be intimate. He wanted his grandchildren back and to experience all the stories Lily had told him. Light and Lily had returned to the future without speaking to anyone, they assumed it was because Light was still hurt about what they had done and that Lily wouldn't be able to handle the goodbye. Finn had been a little upset he'd not been able to say goodbye but Phoebe reassured him it would be fine, after all, she had fallen pregnant too. With Finn moved out, Marshall got straight into renovating the Treehouse's lower and upper levels. He was making sure to baby proof the whole house. Fionna had found it hilarious until he started to moan at her for leaving swords around. BMO2 had decided to stay in the house too. It was her home after all and for some reason she felt drawn to Hunter. Finn had called it instinct while BMO2 had just said it was programming but deep down she had loved knowing that she would finally fulfil her purpose from its origin.

Bubba and Bonnie had introduced Belle to the Kingdom which had resulted in days of celebration with visits from every kingdom imaginable. Roselinen and her children had shown up to represent the Shade Kingdom so finally it was put on everyone's maps and was known to the world. Lumen was happy to have finally completed one of his original goals even if he wasn't the one who had done it per say. He had chosen step down from many royal duties without his powers. The people had been distraught but he assured them that no matter what he was their Prince and that would never change. Peppermint Butler and Peppermint maid had taken to the news of a baby with a strange delight. They had gathered every rune, spell and book they could and gave the child every demonic blessing they could. Bubba had been a little worried but Bonnie laughed it off, she was happy. She finally had a family that wasn't out to destroy her. She brought Belle down to meet Neddy who had cried in joy realising he had a niece. She and Neddy sung for Belle who fell swiftly to sleep.

Jake had returned to his family with the news that everything ended well. He and Lady went to visit Prizmo to ensure that the timeline was perfect. They celebrated the success of their actions and Jake became privy to the last secret of the story. He was tempted to go and share it but decided that for once, Ooo was safe. He left a note for Finn and the others and disappeared with Lady. The pair went to visit all sorts of wonderful places together. Occasionally they would receive a postcard or a message crystal. Finn had begun a collection of them and would often use the Fire Kingdoms new broadcasting system to share the adventures of Jake and Lady. They tended to be the same, Jake would get lost, distracted or just in trouble while Lady had to rescue him. It was a massive hit for the Kingdom.

Finn had begun his training to take over as King and so Phoebe could be announced as Queen. He was happy to just take the title and leave all the power with its true ruler but Phoebe wanted to be equals meaning Finn had to study up on all the Kingdoms rules, customs and history. Thanks to his Ppp Pillow-world Memories studying became a breeze and he soon was getting ready to be coronated, although the pair had to get married first.

Over in the cave Marceline was doing her utmost best to keep Lumen out of trouble. Fionna and Finn were taking turns to train him both the limits of the human body and how to fight. Lumen didn't want to become useless so was training as hard as he could. Marceline just ended up worrying more as he turned out to have a rather large amount of weaknesses he had hidden. He couldn't swim properly. She had pushed him into a lake when they went on a picnic only for him to not resurface. He had laughed it off but she was keeping note of everything he needed to learn again. The pair had managed to salvage enough parts from the mutant plains to rebuild an old motorbike. They'd let Bonnie tinker with it so it wasn't bad for the environment but she had upped the speed so much they had almost crashed on their first ride together. Lumen had promised to take it slow for now, but only for now.

For a while their lives continued without any problems, they were happy and healthy. The bad guys still tried to cause trouble but Ooo and Aaa had champions to stop them and finally came a day of unity.

"I'm not sure about this… what if I trip..?" Lumen sat nervously. He was wearing a new black suit, it was a formal uniform of the Shade Kingdom, one for such events. Marshall floated over and knocked him on the head.

"Lightbulb chill. Even you couldn't screw up today!" He laughed before floating over to try helping Jake calm down the other worried individual.

"How's the weenie J-Dog?" He looked at Finn who seemed to be sweating buckets.

"...He's fine… I hope." Jake answered nervously. He was panicking himself. Marshall laughed again before clapping his hands.

"Okay people! Let's go! It's marriage-time." Marshall ushered the four out and down the aisle, past their friends and family until they stood at the altar.

As they took their positions Death looked at them and laughed.

"You look like death boys." He started to chuckle when a light tap stopped him.

"Death baby.. don't teasssse the mortalsssssss." The Lady of Life hissed. When the pair had been looking for a registrar they had received a visit from the pair. They had offered to bind them in marriage in both Life and Death. The greatest bond they could offer. Finn pulled at his collar. His light blue suit seemed so tight all of a sudden. He bend his knees and breathed in deeply. He was greeted by cheers from the crown wishing him well and telling him to calm down. Jake and Marshall stood by their sides and their best men. Both wearing massive grins as the music finally began to play. Hunson used his magic to make the doors burst apart as he escorted Marceline in. Lumen looked up almost spellbound as she took her first step towards him. She was wearing her hair up so only a few strands ran down her exposed neck. She was wrapped in a long black dress with black laced sleeves. He felt his mouth go dry as the nerves started to kick in. Each step closer was another beat of his heart as she finally took her place opposite him. She smiled widely at him as he smiled nervously back. She could feel just how much he loved her from how he looked at her and she was ready for their next step. The pair turned to face the door as Finn looked up to see the arch light up as she came into view. Flame King walked with pride as he walked with his daughter by his side. Phoebe's dress matched Finn as the brilliant blue flames danced across her. She seemed to shine ever brighter as she walked to stand opposite him. Everyone took their seats as the foursome faced one another.

"Greetings mortals, the deathless and all in between. We are gathered today to bind the souls of the four individuals before us."

"We sssshall bind them in both Life and Death. United forever to never be torn apart. From today and thisssss day forth they will be one."

"You may now make your vowels to one another." Death ushered Finn to speak first who nodded before stepping forth and taking Phoebe's hand in his.

"Phoebe Flame. I spent weeks trying to find the right words to tell you how much I love you yet nothing I could fathom ever came close to the love I feel for you. I didn't want to disgrace my feelings for you with sub par and vague descriptions so instead I want to make you a promise. I promise to love and cherish you in this life and every one that follows. I promise to always protect you and those you love, to defend your honour and make sure that every day henceforth is one of joy and happiness. I promise to never let you feel like you're not the most precious and treasured jewel in all of existence. I promise to honour your kingdom and your family and also to correct the errors of the future and be the best father I could possibly be. I promise that from this day my true title is no longer Finn the Human but Finn the Husband." Phoebe's flame grew greatly as she listened to his sweet words. She felt her face flush a deeper red and her smile reach breaking point as she listened to his vowels. He slid the ring onto her finger and waited patiently for her vowels.

"Finn Mertens. Our journey hasn't been the easiest and time has served to only make it harder. We've both made our fair share of mistakes but all of that seems like nothing now I'm standing here with you. The day you flew into my room with the Pervert was the day my life changed for the better. You found the one person who could lead you back to me and complete our family. I used to look out at the sky and hope for the day to end… now I wake up each morning and wait for the sun to rise so our days can begin. You've given me your heart and your future and every day from now on will be the greatest adventure we have ever been on. I love you so much I could burst and I know that this love is only the beginning of so much more. So Finn Mertens, please make me your Queen." Finn was glad he was still fireproof as the flames Phoebe gave off as she poured out her feelings were brilliantly dancing all around them. The heat reached him through his shield and made him feel her warmth. Lumen was being sheltered by Marshall since he was now the only one who wasn't fireproof. She slid his ring onto his finger and pulled him in for a passionate kiss.

"Finn Mertens, Human Hero Prince and Phoebe Flame, Flame Princess. By the powers granted to us as the embodiment of life and death we unite your souls in holy matrimony for this life and all those who follow. You are united." Death and Life put their hands together as a golden chain of light began to wrap around the pair.

Life winked Marceline who nodded in response. She floated over to Lumen and took his hand. Lowering herself down she stood level with him as they stared into each others eyes as they always did. The ruby red of hers gazing into the bright blue of his.

"Ivel Mertens, Lumen Dusk, Wolf bait, Shade Prince. You've gone by many names in our time together. From that first encounter on the hill to this moment we've been on a journey together. From a cute stranger to someone who has promised to be mine. So much has changed but one thing that has never changed was how you were open about your love for me. You fell in love with me at first sight and since then I've been chasing after you. You brought back Simon, Saved my Dad, saved Betty, helped Finn and so much more. The countless things you've done to bring light to my life are the foundation of your love for me. Now I get the rest of our lives to show you just how much I love you. You are my world Lumen and I will do everything in my power to treasure every moment with you." She slid the ring onto his finger and chuckled as it locked in place. He had gotten Hunson's help to pick the rings and in turn he was given a pair of cursed rings. The rings would dig it's fangs into the wearer and once the pair were both fanged it would unite them by a blood pact. Marceline had initially suspected that her father had tricked him but he had known about it. He'd even asked for it. He wanted to bind himself to her in every way, from Life to Death and everything in between. Spoken word, blood pact, magical seal. They had put everything into their rings, no unity had been made before that was more binding that the one they wore today.

"Marceline Abadeer, The Vampire Queen. Demon, Vampire, and 100% badass but that's not how I met you. On that hill, all those years ago you were a beautiful miracle, who helped me on my way. You were all consuming, blocking out the sun and taking my heart away. I have followed you across the land, over cliffs and even to death. I have and will continue to do everything in my power to bring your life happiness and love. I love you Marceline. You are the happily ever after that I have been looking for. We fought the bad guy, we won the day and now all we have to do is wait for our Hope and life will truly be complete and who knows, maybe we won't stop there. You've walked this world for over 1000 years and I want you to share every moment with me. I'm greedy and selfish and I want you all to myself yet at the same time I am yours and yours alone. By every bond I could find I bind my soul, my heart and my life to yours. Everything I have and am is now yours to have and share in. I love you." Lumen smiled widely as Marceline struggled to hold back her tears. She had laughed at some of his speech remembering all their times together. As he slipped the ring onto her finger and it locked into place the pair remembered every single memory they shared together. Once the ring had bonded a red chain formed between them binding their blood pact together.

"And now. We will sssssssseee to it that with all the blessssssssingssss we possssessss, you are bonded asssss one." The golden chains formed another circle around Marceline and Lumen. As it circled both pairs it began to weave between them and formed an infinity sign around them.

"You are united as one, bound together until the last sun." Death clenched his boney hand shut as the chain burst into lights and started to circle them.

Everyone present watched as each golden light seemed to bloom into a flower and the petals danced around the room. Finn and Phoebe, Marceline and Lumen all looked at their respective partners and kissed to finish the ceremony as the petals seemed to fly inside them causing them to glow slightly. They walked to face their friends and family as they all applauded them. Those who had powers shot their magic into the air causing snowflakes, flames and much more to circle around the room. The many different colours showered them all as they started to celebrate. Phoebe and Marceline threw their bouquets into the crowd only to have Fionna and Marshall both dive and catch one each. They both smiled and bowed as everyone moved out into the reception area under the starlit sky to dance. Primso had pulled a few strings and above them was a mix of the Northern lights and meteor showers. Jake and Cake grabbed their instruments and began to play as the pairs moved onto the dance floor. Lumen tapped his feet and surprised Marceline as he started to float. Marshall had gifted him a pair of enchanted dancing shoes. The two took to the skies dancing in each others arms, only seeing one another and no one else. Finn and Phoebe however were enjoying their time on the ground. The first dance together was an upbeat instrumental of Dream of Love. The others had been surprised by Finn's choice but he explained that love should never be negative and the song let him feel his Dad's last wish. For him to find happiness. Him and Fionna looked up at the stars and thought of their parents watching down at them. As the first dance concluded the rest of the party joined in. Hunson went to have his father daughter dance with Marceline while Lumen danced with Faith. Flame King had tripped in his hurry to dance with Phoebe which had left her giggling. Her silly old father, no longer a tyrant but embarrassing in his own way. Firenze had decided to sit back and watch her two most precious people dance.

"I never thought I'd get to see this day." She said softly as she smiled warmly at them. Finn was sitting beside her.

"Me neither, I guess.. in the end we only have Lumen to thank." The pair looked up to see Faith and Lumen spinning around as fast as they could. Marceline and her father were rushing to stop them but it was too late. They let go and Lumen went flying through the sky. Marceline zooming after him. Everyone laughed as she yelled at him.

"I don't think that marriage will ever have a dull moment." Firenze chuckled as she stood up. She offered Finn her hand and pulled him up.

"Have you memorised the traditional dance yet?"

"Of course, I have the smartest Mum in Ooo teaching me after all." Finn chuckled. He froze as he realised what he had said and looked up to see Firenze almost crying of happiness.

"Mum?"

"Well.. if you don't mind?" She grabbed Finn and started to spin across the dance floor happily.

"Of course not!" They laughed happily as they crashed through the many dancers who were trying to follow any sort of rhythm. Above them looking down was Marshall trying to get Fionna to dance.

"Come on Fi.. everyone is dancing, don't tell me your still shy are you?" She laughed at his question.

"Oh Marshy you insult me. I just didn't want to embarrass all these poor souls." She winked at him, pullings rose from behind her and putting it in his mouth.

"Hit it Jake!" She called as he started to play faster and add more of a beat. He stretched out and made his whole body into a full band. Fionna clapped her hands together and started to circle around Marshall. Everyone below looked up to see the Hero of Aaa and the Vampire King dancing up a storm. Hunson looked down at his surrogate nephew and decided he wouldn't be outdone. He grabbed Faith's hand and the pair joined in.

Everyone at the reception cheered as more and more upped their own technique and danced the night away.

Sitting in a tree watching over everyone was Marceline and Lumen. She had caught him and the pair had decided to watch from the side.

"It's a dream come true.."

"That it is… I hope moments like this never end."

"Me too.. I love you wolf bait."

"I love you too Marcy." The pair sat with smiles on their faces as finally after years of pain and heartache.. all was good with the world.

The End.
