Ladybug and Chat Noir searched through the hotel for the akuma, finding it in one of the suites by a fireplace. It was short, most-likely a child, and was dressed like Santa. He was gazing into the fireplace, one hand on his hip and the other holding a large red bag with multiple things jutting against the lining.
Next to the fireplace, dolls and lumps of coal sat under the tree. Ladybug looked over at Chat silently with wide eyes before she unclipped her yo-yo and aimed it towards an adjacent room. Making a loud crashing sound, she yanked it back so that the akuma won't see. When it leaves the room, Ladybug and Chat ran over to the tree, picking up the dolls and coal and holding them under the light of the fireplace.
"Is this the mayor?" Ladybug asked, referring to the doll in her hand.
"Mr. Limodin's name is on this," Chat added, holding a piece of coal that had 'Charles Limodin' engraved in gold on it.
"What's going on?"
"Ladybug! Chat Noir!"
The two heroes whipped around and stood up to look at the akuma, falling into a defensive position.
"Mommy and Daddy said that all I was going to get for Christmas was coal Santa if I couldn't get along with my baby sister. So now I'm the new Santa Claus, King Coal, and I'm going to decide what people get for Christmas. And I've decided that Hawkmoth is going to get your miraculouses!"
"Never!" Ladybug exclaimed.
"Then you two are officially on the naughty list!"
"Aw, now I'm never going to get that ball of yarn," Chat fake-whined.
King Coal reaches inside his coat, pulling out a quill and some parchment. He's about to scrawl the heroes names when Hawkmoth's symbol appears before his face. King Coal pauses, listening with a frustrated expression.
"Yes sir…"
King Coal puts the pen and paper away, instead pulling a bb-gun out of his bag.
"Give me your miraculouses!"
"Don't you know it's rude to regift presents? Why don't you be a good boy and tell us where the akuma is!"
"Naughty! Naughty! Naughty!" King Coal roared, leveling the toy with his eyes and aiming.
Ladybug and Chat Noir leap out of the way just in time; barely dodging the pellets.
"Ugh, stay still!" the akuma whined, taking aim again.
"Chat! Do you know where the akuma is?" Ladybug asks from the other side of the room.
"Wish I did, M'lady!"
"Lucky charm!"
Ladybug throws her yo-yo into the air; it along with a vinyl record falling back down.
"Are you going to play some Christmas music?" Chat teases.
Ladybug gazes at it for a moment as she continues dodging the pellets.
"Of course! Chat! I have to go!"
"What? Now?"
"You're not going anywhere until you give me your miraculous!"
However, Ladybug had no intention of listening to King Coal. Instead, she runs out of the room. Up to the roof, she swings out towards the studio. Landing in an alley, she drops her transformation. Marinette and Tikki rush out of the gap between the two buildings and enter Master Fu's studio.
"Master Fu!"
"Marinette? What is the matter?"
"There's an akuma at Le Grand Paris, and my lucky charm told me to come to you."
"I see. The lucky charm has yet to mislead a Ladybug in all the histories of the miraculous."
Fu presses buttons on the record player, the miracle box emerging. The master grabs it and places it down in front of the heroine.
"Marinette Dupain-Cheng, I am entrusting you with the power of the miraculous of your choosing. Not only must you choose a power carefully, but also an ally that you can trust. Do you know who you are going to choose?"
Marinette gazed at the various miraculouses, deep in thought as her hand hovered over the varied powers.
"Actually, Master Fu," Marinette said as she picked up the Fox miraculous, "I think I'm going to trust myself this time."
"Are you sure? You know the dangers of using multiple miraculouses simultaneously."
"I know, Master. I won't push myself."
"I trust you. Now go, Ladybug."
Marinette nods, getting up and rushing out of the building. Ducking back into the alley, Marinette grins at Tikki, whom looked worried.
"Tikki, spots on!"
Marinette transformed into Ladybug before putting on the Fox miraculous, releasing Trixx from her dormant state.
"Ladybug! It's a pleasure to see you again!"
"Same here, but we can chat after we defeat this akuma. Tikki, Trixx, combine!"
The miraculouses fuse together, and Ladybug turns into LadyFox. She staggers for a moment, her energy depleted. Taking a deep breath and shaking her head, LadyFox swings her yo-yo, wanting to get back to the fight as fast as she could.
She returned to the room with the fireplace, but found neither Chat nor King Coal there. Fear momentarily takes over LadyFox, and she checks under the tree. Sighing in relief, she relaxes when Chat Noir is neither a toy or a lump of coal.
However, her peace of mind is short-lived as a loud crash rings out from far away. LadyFox springs up, grabbing her flute. She curls her lip under it and blows lightly, creating a magical tune and a small glow at the tip of the instrument.
"Mirage!"
Before her, Ladybug, Carapace, Rena Rouge, and Queen Bee appear, dormant without her command.
"Come on; Chat Noir needs us!"
LadyFox leads the group, all running towards the sounds of chaos. She's able to pinpoint where it is, so she waves them on without going in, herself.
"Ladybug! I'm glad you're back! Carapace? Bee? Rena? What's going on?" Chat exclaimed.
He hadn't been all of the original five since Heroes' Day, and that had ended with Ladybug saying that they would most likely be retired.
"I just need some helping hands," Ladybug replied, winking at Chat.
Outside of the room, LadyFox called upon her lucky charm. Into her hands fell a yarn doll of Chat Noir in a wrapped box.
"What am I supposed to do with this?"
LadyFox, wanting to be able to see inside the room, uses her yo-yo to push the air vent open before leaping up. Slowly, she crawled through the vents so as not to create noise. However, she would have been drowned out anyway with Chat and the illusions fighting King Coal.
She peaked through the slits of the air vent of the ceiling, observing the battle below as she wracked her brain for an idea on what the lucky charm was trying to tell her.
"Think, Ladybug, think."
Chat and Carapace charged King Coal from the front while Rena Rouge and Ladybug came from the back as Queen Bee tried to sting the akuma. Neither Chat nor the akuma noticed, but the illusions never physically touched anything that wasn't part of the illusion itself.
LadyFox could feel herself growing tired, and she knew that her time with the illusions was ticking away. Then, she got an idea.
Ladybug discreetly got closer to Chat, whispering in his ear that he should cataclysm the bag that the akuma still held with one hand. LadyFox knew that the akuma probably wasn't in it since she couldn't imagine it being built off of anything.
Chat listened, and he charged at King Coal again.
"Cataclysm!"
With just a touch, the bag disintegrates to ash, no akuma fluttering out.
"Th-there's no akuma!" Chat exclaimed.
"Chat Noir, go detransform and come back!" Ladybug then instructed.
"Right!"
Chat ran out of the room just as LadyFox dropped down from the vent, landing in front of him with a grin on her face.
"Ladybug? What? I just saw you inside that room!"
LadyFox simply points to the Fox pendant, and realization dawns on Chat's face.
"They're all illusions?"
"That's right, kitty. And you're going to be, too."
"I trust you, M'lady. Plagg, claws in."
Absorbed in a green light, Chat Noir returns to Adrien, and he quickly hands the kwami a piece of smelly cheese. Plagg, understanding the urgency, said nothing and scarfed down the Camembert.
"Plagg, claws out!"
Chat Noir runs back into the room, grinning with determination.
"Lucky charm!" Ladybug exclaimed.
Into her arms fell an empty box, and she pretended to look around in confusion before she feigned getting an idea.
"Alright, King Coal. You win; we'll give you our miraculouses."
"What? No!" Chat fake-exclaimed, already in on the plan.
"Yes! I'm so much better and more fair than Santa Claus!"
"On one condition," Ladybug continued, grabbing the boy's attention.
"What?" the akuma asked, crossing his arms in annoyance.
"You don't have to know our identities, so let Queen Bee deliver the miraculouses to you so that you don't see our faces. I think that's what the lucky charm is trying to tell me," Ladybug exclaimed, holding up the empty box.
"Ladybug! No!"
"...Alright," the akuma said, agreeing to the conditions.
Defeated, Ladybug and Chat Noir leave the room along with Queen Bee. The latter then comes back in with the box with a solemn expression.
"Here. You win this stupid game," she said handing the box to King Coal.
"Yes! Yes! Yes!" he exclaimed, reaching out to grab the box that was open.
He could see the miraculouses! However, when he tried to touch it, it dissolved as if made of air.
"What the-?"
Suddenly, Rena Rouge, Carapace, and Queen Bee disappeared. Chat Noir was standing an inch away with a satisfied expression as LadyFox stood a few feet away with the same face.
"Cataclysm!"
"No!"
But it was too late; Chat dissolved the hat on King Coal's head, freeing the akuma.
"No more evil-doing for you, little akuma. Time to de-evilize!"
LadyFox swung her yo-yo, capturing the moth. She presses a button on her weapon, purifying it and releasing its white self.
"Bye, bye, little butterfly!"
King Coal fell to his knees, absorbed in black and purple matter before it fell away to reveal a startled boy.
"Miraculous LadyFox!" LadyFox yelled, tossing the box with the doll inside into the air, letting the magic purify the damage.
"Pound it!" she and Chat Noir exclaimed, bumping fists.
