A/N Short Chapter. Happy to be back

"-Happy Birthday, dear Frisk, Happy Birthday to you!"
Frisk forced a smile, gazing around at her friends and family as they sung.
Today was November 15th - her birthday. She had woken up this morning feeling awful, and couldn't tell why - until Toriel came into her room, wishing her happy birthday.
Today she was eighteen, officially an adult. She should be happy; it was her birthday after all, but it was just… upsetting.

Why?

The obvious. She was missing Harley. Her twin brother. They had been together for almost every one of their birthdays, and while he had left just before the seventeenth it hadn't hit as hard, since she was busy grieving, everyone was. Everyone had left her alone last year, but this one they wanted to celebrate.
She wanted to be happy, but… it emptiness was too strong. It hurt her so much.
"Hey, numbnuts." Chara prodded Frisk's cheek. "You going to let the wax drip into the cake?"

Frisk shook her head, trying to shove away all of the thoughts that had been filling her mind, as she blew out the candles; no wish had really come to mind.
Just wanted to get this all over with.

Frisk gazed blankly into the crowd of smiling faces, not noticing the raised eyebrows on Chara, who once again prodded her, hard.
"Hey!" Frisk protested, her blue eyes narrowed as she shot Chara a dirty look.
"Come back to Earth, dumbass." Chara grouched. "You've functioned without him for a year, don't fall apart today just because it's your birthday. Get your shit together."
Frisk's hands balled into fist as she began to rise.
"The fuck did you say, you filthy little-"
"Okay!" Toriel exclaimed nervously, shoving Chara to the side as she bustled over to the cake with a knife. "Cake time!"
Frisk growled, sitting down as Chara raised her palms and shrugged.
"All I'm saying is that Frisk is doing much better now." She continued. "No need to keep mulling over - ow!"
Undyne punched Chara's arm, narrowing her yellow eyes as she swiped her finger over her lips. Shrugging again, Chara fell silent, and Toriel proceeded to give out slices of cake to the group, everyone silent as they accepted the treat from Toriel.

After she finished, she put the knife down and worriedly scanned everyone's expressions; everyone seemed fairly distraught or annoyed by Chara's outburst.
"So… gifts!" Toriel clapped her hands, forcing a smile on her face. "I'll go first!"
She dashed towards her room, stepping inside as the others watched, and when she stepped back out after a few moments, she flushed as she noticed all the eyes on her.
"I made you a jacket!" Toriel said brightly, unfurling it and showing it off to Frisk. It was a blue jacket with purple lines etched on either side of the zipper in a diagonal line downwards, and when she showed off the back, you could see the gold DeltaRune sewn on the back.

She handed it to Frisk, who's vision had begun to blur; this reminded her of… well. Harley's. She rose to her feet, and pulled on the jacket, feeling Toriel pull her in for a hug.
"Th - thank you, m-mom." Frisk sobbed into Toriel's chest, and felt as the hand stroked the back of her head.
"Of course, my child." She murmured, giving Frisk a gentle squeeze and letting her go; but as Frisk wiped her and headed back to her chair Chara was scoffing and rolling her eyes, only to grunt as Undyne stamped on her foot, keeping a wide smile on her face as she glared at Chara.
"Shut. Up." She said through gritted teeth, before stepping forwards and dropping a duffel bag that she had been carrying onto the table with a loud thud.

"The hell you have in there?" Frisk asked wearily, eyeing it. "Rocks?"
"Hah! Kid, even if I gave ya rocks, they would be the greatest rocks! The perfect ammunition to take down the enemy!"

When Frisk gazed at Undyne with a raised eyebrow, unamused, she laughed again, opening the duffel bag.

"Don't worry, don't worry, what I gave you is much better than the rocks! I have given you items of power, of war! Items that you, my seasoned student, have earned!"

She pulled out the first of two items, a simple-looking sword with a clear crossguard, and held it out to Frisk with a wide grin. "Here, take it!" She encouraged, and Frisk obliged, reaching out and grabbing the hilt.
With a flash, the weapon's hilt turned red, and the deltarune glowed, emblazoning itself over Frisk's hand, and she laughed, feeling a surge of energy rush through her.
"Yes!" Undyne cheered, laughing once more. "Look, that weapon feels the energy of the wielder's soul, and strengthens the magic through it, while making being at the perfect balance for the wielder."
"That being said, it is already perfectly balanced for you."

Frisk grinned as the blade hummed in her hand, feeling as her magic surged throughout it, and accepted the sheath that Undyne handed to her, and sheathed the blade.
"I'm glad you like it! Now, for your other one…" She reached into the bag again, and handed another item - a shield - to Frisk. A buckler, it looked like the shield Frisk always summoned in combat. Frisk grabbed it, and smiled, placing the shield on the floor next to the sword.

"Now, both weapons are made of a mixture of titanium, aluminium, tungsten, and steel, making it highly durable and quite flexible, and also has the usual enchantments to make its durability higher."
"And as you know very well, you need to sharpen and tend to the enchantments of them after every combat, I'll teach you how to do both, don't worry."
Frisk nodded, her eyes finally meeting her smile. "Thanks Undyne. I'll make very good use of these."

The next few gifts passed by quickly. Asriel and Alphys had chipped in together to buy Frisk a gaming laptop, remarking that she needed to make sure she relaxed more; Grillby gave her an unlimited open tab, Dawn gave her a lego set, a strange vehicle called the Diselnaut, saying that people at her job are always recommending their product to help others relax. Mettaton invited her to his tour next summer, starting in America, and she accepted, saying that she had something to look forward to.

Everyone inside had began to hang around and chatter, some playing on the switch, others drinking around the table, and Frisk excused herself to step outside.

"You know, Harley; it seems I was able to actually enjoy myself today." She thought, sighing. "I miss you, so badly - but I'll be able to move forwards. Just.. please return so-"
Her line of thought was caught off as a glimmer of light caught her eye, and her head shot up. A hooded figure stood kneeling on one of the nearby roofs, quietly watching her.

"H-harley?!" She stammered, taking a few steps forwards - if like by an act of a higher being, a gust of wind blew by, catching the figures hood and blowing it back slightly, a glimmer of red glowing from where the figure's eyes were. It rose, and she could see light shining off of the metal on the figures leg - a metal leg?
"Harley? Is - is that you?"
She took another few steps forwards, before something flew at her, a small metal object hitting her neck. She gasped, and pulled it out as her knees buckled. Through her now hazy vision she saw that the figure had strode over to her, and placed something cold in her hand, whispering "Happy Eighteenth."
Her vision faded, and she passed out.

"Frisk! Wake up, Frisk!"
Her eyes fluttered open, and Frisk slowly turned her head; Undyne and Chara were standing over her, both looking fairly worried.
"Good, you're awake." Chara sighed, sounding relieved, and grasped Frisk's arm, pulling her to her feet."
"I - I saw him…" Frisk murmured as Undyne steadied her. "I saw Harley."
Chara scoffed, raising her eyebrow as she gazed around dramatically. "Oh, really? Where? Where is he, Frisk?!"

"He must've left!" Frisk cried out, growing angry as Chara continued to scoff. "I swear, I saw him!"
"Yeah, sure. Watch where you're walking, before you hit your head again."
Chara spun around, and stalked back inside, rejoining the party as Undyne patted Frisk's back and followed.

"I know I saw him…" Frisk muttered, remembering the feeling of something being put in her hand; she held it up, and it was a silver ring with a blue stripe, with a small note that was written in cursive.

"Happy Birthday. Keep this close."

Frisk closed her eyes and took a deep breath, before exhaling and looking up into the sky.

"Happy Birthday, Harley. I love you."
She turned and headed inside, slipping the ring into her back pocket.
