Chapter 34

Alright It's been quite a while sorry about that. Gonna be honest I procrastinated hard on this, more than anything else. Sure school and life took up a big chunk of my time but still I probably should have gotten this done way sooner so sorry.

Ok it's past noon. Yang said she was going to visit me but never actually said a time. Maybe that was my mistake not setting a direct time for her to come here. It also would have made me less excited every time I heard the door open, only to be disappointed to see it was just another customer.

Yeah I haven't had the best time waiting.

Thankfully I have been able to focus on doing my job rather than, just waiting for Yang. With it being around noon everyone is rushing in to buy some sweets.

Weiss is manning the register, and I don't know how the girl does it. I easily get overwhelmed by just a few customers.

Thank goodness we have Weiss at this store. Blake and me aren't really good with customers, like Miss Goodwitch told me. I have been trying to work on it when Weiss has her day off. Which is the scariest day of the week.

But this isn't Weiss' day off so I'm safe. All I have to do is bake, which is the second best job in the world. Honestly the only hard part of the job, is stopping myself from eating any of the cookies I make. Took so long to get those cravings out of my system.

After lunch hour finally came to an end, it gave us a chance to breathe, and for my thoughts about Yang to come back.

Weiss came back to check up on me and I guess she saw some kind of look on my face. "So, Ruby do you know when you're sister is coming?"

"Nope"

"Do you know if she even is coming?"

"Nope" That hurt more than I'll admit to say.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Weiss asked

"No… ok maybe" Almost got myself into a pattern there.

Weiss gave me all the time I needed to collect my thoughts. I mean there is so much I could talk about but I know I shouldn't over share.

I decided to tell her about Yang's choice to become a huntress, and how I haven't seen her in over 5 years. I also brought up how she has promised to see me before but went back on her work.

"It's just hard" I ended up saying, that's just how I feel.

"I know it is" Weiss said wrapping an arm around my shoulder.

"You do?" I asked then immediately remembering, Weiss was basically disowned by her father.

"I haven't seen my sister is years either" Weiss said with a smile so I could tell that unlike her father she does miss him.

"Why's that?"

"My sister joined the Atlas military, when I was 14" Her sister also left her family? Well with what I've heard about her father…

"My father would have disowned her too" Yup figures "Were it not for the damage it would do to the relationship between his company and the military" Weiss finished with a laugh.

"Have you not seen her since she joined?" I asked.

"On occasion. Family gatherings and such, nothing that allowed privacy" Weiss said with a distant smile. "The only time we were allowed that luxury was the occasional call"

That does make sense with the fact Weiss was once part of the SDC but... "What about now?"

"What do you mean?" Weiss asked confused.

"Now that you're away from your father and all that, have you been able to meet in private?"

"Unfortunately not. Winter's responsibility is too great to just come down for a visit"

That makes sense the military isn't as casual as being a Huntsman, where you can just stop whenever you want.

"Well if-"

I was cut off as the bell that sounded when the door open rang. Weiss let out a quick sigh as she stood up to greet the new customer.

"Hellooooo! Does one Ruby Rose work here!?" The bombastic voice of my sister pierced my ears. Holy crap… she actually came.

Sprinting out of the kitchen at speeds that could rival my semblance, I was only stopped by the counter top. Causing me to crash into the ground.

I could hear Yang laughing as Weiss came to make sure I was okay.

Ok that may have been a dumb idea to just run out here, but who can really blame me when Yang is actually here?

"Yaaang" Ok maybe I hit the ground harder than I thought.

"What is it Ruby?" Yang asked as she hopped over the counter.

"Can you help me up?" I asked raising my hand.

Yang pulled me up with such ease that I flew a bit off the ground. I always liked it when Yang pulled me up, it's like how my dad would when I was little.

"You ok?" She asked with a giggle "Cause I don't want to have to call an ambulance for you running into a countertop"

"Nah… I'm good" 'good' that's a good way to put it. Seriously my side is killing me. "Weiss I'm sorry to-"

"I'll watch the store for as long as you need" Weiss said giving me a smile. Oh I'm really glad Weiss isn't a total… jerk right now.

I said my thanks and took Yang to one of the few tables we have here. I saw that Weiss was trying her best to preoccupy herself in the kitchen. I really hope this doesn't turn into us yelling at each other.

"Sooo… I noticed you haven't used your aura" Yang stated, hold on a second she doesn't know? "Any reason you're not?" No she really doesn't know.

How do I explain what happened? "Well…" The words were lost on me. Leaving Yang to just wait for an uncomfortable amount of time. "I lost it" Yeah that's a great way to put it Ruby. 'I lost it' just like how you can lose your keys, stupid!

"You lost it? Ruby, you can't just lose something like that" I mean it's not like you can drop it like your keys" Oh for gods sake.

"Well you can lose it" I said unable to look her in the eyes.

"But… Dad said that once you get your aura, it's with you for the rest of your life" Yang said in disbelief.

"Yeah so long as you don't fail" I said and Yang instantly knew what I meant.

Yang took a few moments to process that before responding "How does failing do that?"

Memories of the facility jumped into my mind but I shot them down. I don't want to remember that.

"They take it away from you" I said, letting out a breath to calm myself.

"Wha- what the government?" Yang asked in disbelief.

I simply nodded in response. Yang again took a moment to process this. While I was doing my best to not remember those days.

"Why would they do this?" Yang asked full of anger. "That's insane, unfair, and-"

"It makes sense" I said cutting her off leaving her even more confused and angry. "Doesn't make it right" I said before she started yelling.

"That still doesn't answer why though" Yang asked cooler than before.

"People with aura are naturally faster, stronger, and tougher than someone without it. So the government doesn't want unlicensed people who trained to become Huntsman, to become criminals" I explained.

"Did they force you to do this?" Yang asked.

"It's illegal to be over 18 with aura" The only reason the cut off is 18 it because people join huntsman schools when they're 17 to 18.

"So what, you would have gone to jail otherwise?" Yang asked again with me nodding in response. "That's bullshit!" Yang yelled out slamming her fist on the table. Thankfully she didn't break it, but their are some noticeable cracks.

"Yang please don't" I warned, taking a breath.

"Do what?"

"This, please just calm down" I regretted my choice of words instantly.

"Calm down!? They took your-"

"Just stop!" I shrieked making her stop. "You weren't here Yang, and now you're gonna get angry about this now?"

Yang seemed shocked by my words… good. "Ruby, if you told me I would-"

"You'd what? Stop them from taking my aura?" Like she could have done anything. "Or no, you would have came home if I called?" She looked down in shame.

"I… I would-"

"Stop lying!" Yang was taken aback. I could feel my eyes watering up, but I didn't care.

Yang didn't say anything in response probably because she couldn't have without lying. As long as Dad is there she would never come back.

"You should go" I whispered out wiping my eyes.

Yang nodded as she stood. "I promise I won't you leave again" She gave me a weak smile that I was unable to return.

"It's not me you should make that promise to" I said practically begging her to go see dad.

Yang didn't say anything but nodded again as she left the store. Once she was outside I retreated into the kitchen where Weiss was waiting she surely heard us… or heard me.

She walked over to me looking concerned. "I'll be fine, I just need a minute" I said putting my hands up to stop her from coming any closer.

"Ok" Weiss said as she walked past me leaving the kitchen.

I took a deep breath, I didn't expect to blow up like that. Thank goodness I stopped myself… it's gonna be a tough week.

Yeah so not a very long chapter haven't had one under 2000 words since chapter 6. Honestly, every time I tried to write this to be longer or have more after where I ended it just didn't feel right. Also with it being so long I felt I should just release something.

Anyway, thanks for reading, hope you've enjoyed, review if you wish and have a great day.
