Bella's Point of View
I was relieved when Carlisle was able to make it here to New Zealand before I gave birth. I was afriad I wasn't going to make it. I just had a feeling that this baby would be coming sooner rather than later.
Carlisle took his time examining both me and Avery. He seemed confident that Avery's pregnany was going good. However he was perplexed by my pregnancy. By the sounds of it I was measuring twice the size I was with Darius. It concerned him a little bit.
He would be staying up here for now, until I delivered. He predicted that it wouldn't be to much longer. I just hoped everything would be ok... I was strong enough last time... there is no reason I can't do this again.
"Bella, how are you feeling today?" Alice asked with a smile.
Alice and Jada had decided to come over and visit today. They had just returned from a hunting trip and where in high spirits today.
"I'm perfectly fine, how are you two?" I said taking a seat at the kitchen table.
"I'm doing pretty good, I really thought living this life... would be miserable... being away from my family... but I've found so much more here." Jada said with a hopeful look. "I can never thank Darius enough for opening my eyes to your world."
Her words warmed my heart. "I'm glad that you're happy Jada." I said lightly stroking my stomach.
"I'm sure you can't wait for Emmett to make it here." Alice said with a sly look in her direction.
Jada nervoulsy twirled a piece of her dark locks between her fingers. "Maybe... I do really miss him..." She said quietly.
It still came to a surprise to me that Jada and Emmett where officially a couple. I've never seen the two of them together, but I've never see Jada so happy.
"It won't be much longer," Alice said with a sigh. "When Carlisle comes, he will be taking me back with him. He needs my abilities to help with finding Caius."
I frowned slightly. "I thought... you couldn't see Caius' future, for some reason."
Alice shrugged her shoulders. "I can't... Carlisle thinks that he may be having someone else make the choices. If that's the case I won't be much help. But if they can find Caius' army and take them down... Caius will have to start making choices."
"So, when he starts making decisions, you will be able to find him." I said with a thoughtful look.
"Exactly," Alice said with a glum look. "I just... really don't want to leave you and Avery right now. I feel like you two need me more here, than Carlisle does."
"Don't worry about me, Edward is here." I said with a smile.
Speaking of which, I was really starting to miss him. Edward, Charlie and Darius had left hunting about an hour ago. They wouldn't be much longer.
"And Avery has Rose watching out for her." Jada said wagging her brows with a girlie giggle.
Alice made a face. "Rose is doing more than watching over her."
"I was meaning to ask about that..." I said chewing my lip. "I noticed they have been pretty inseperable since we got here."
"Well... let's just say, Rose is very dedicated to Avery's wants and needs." Alice said rolling her eyes.
"You mean they are... in a relationship?" I wondered.
"Yes, it's like a fairytale... Avery is with child and was so sad and lonely. And Rose came into her life... and brought her so much happiness and purpose." Jada said with a dreamy sigh.
"This is far from a fairytale, if you ask me." Alice said folding her arms across her chest. "I have my doubts."
"Alice," Jada huffed, giving her a nudge in the side. "Why do you have to be so pessimistic."
"I'm not pessimistic... I just know Rosalie. She's never showed interest in women...ever. But she has shown interest in having a baby." Alice said shrugging her shoulders.
"So, you think she is getting close with Avery... so she can have some kind of claim over her baby?" I asked raising a brow. "I don't think Rose is that kind of person... that sounds... heartless."
"There is no way, haven't you seen how Rose looks at Avery? They are clearly head over heels for each other." Jada said giving Alice a look.
"If you ask me... every time she looks at Avery, she isn't isn't seeing Avery, she is looking at the possiblitity of being a mother." Alice said with a look of distaste on her face.
"Well I guess time will tell." I said with a sigh.
"Not necessarily," Alice said hesitantly. "Avery is human... Rose can keep up with this charade at least until Avery passes away... from old age... disease... there is a number of possibilities." Alice explained carefully. "And once Avery passes, the baby will soully belong to Rose."
Jada frowned. "You are forgetting one thing."
Alice and I both looked to her curiously. "What?"
"That baby belongs to Demetri just as much as it belongs with Avery... no matter the circumstances... it is his child too. And Demetri hates Rosalie..." Jada said with a shrug. "If Avery passes... the baby would have to go to Demetri."
"The hell it does, that moron doesn't deserve another child. Not after everything he put Darius through." Alice snapped, anger in her eyes.
"Unfortunately it's not our business Alice. It's not our call. It's Avery's. Maybe she wants her child to know it's father." Jada said with a sigh. "It's sad... but it's out of our hands."
Jada was right. This was a choice that Avery had to make herself. She knows as well as I do what kind of man Demetri is. I've told her everything that I've been through with Demetri... and if she still plans on letting him in her child's life that would be her choice. No one else's. But I hope she chooses wisely.
After a moment, there was a slight knock on the door. I heard the front door open with a low creak.
My heart dropped into the pit of my stomach. I was instantly worried that it was Caius. But that was silly, he wouldn't be knocking before coming in. I couldn't help it though. I've been more and more on edge now that I was getting close to deliver.
"Don't worry, it's just Rene." Alice whispered to me with a small smile. "We are safe here Bella. I promise you."
I nodded to her and attempted to smile back.
"Bella, hey I brought you over some peanut butter fudge." Rene beamed as she walked into the kitchen with little Greg. She eyed my stomach with awe. "Wow, honey you are really big... poor thing." She cooed, stroking my hair.
I laughed, feeling my face getting red. "Cut it out mom," I lightly ran my hand back over my huge stomach. "It won't be long now."
Rene placed the plate of fudge in front of me and went to brew a pot of coffee. "It was always a tradition in our family that when someone was pregnant we would bring them fudge."
"That's an odd tradition." Alice commented with a grin, opening her arms for Rene to pass little Greg to her.
Little Greg seemed to be content in Alice's arms, he laid his head down on her shoulder and soon he was fast asleep.
"Yeah, our family has always been a little weird. But we follow it all the same. And maybe... if you end up having a girl... you can make her fudge." Rene sniffed, appearing to get emotional.
"Thanks mom," I said pulling her in for a hug.
She hugged me, tears sliding down her cheeks. But she quickly recovered as she sat down at the table. "Go ahead, try one... fudge is something I can make well... I'd other some for you two as well.. but you can't eat it, huh?" Rene said looking to Alice and Jada.
"I'm sure it is delicious, I wish we could try it." Jada pouted, staring at the plate with yearning in her eyes.
Alice made a slight face, but smiled at Rene. "How is Charlie doing?"
I picked up some fudge and popped the whole thing in my mouth. It was so good. I loved peanut butter. This was just what I was craving.
"He is doing great, I've never seen him so... energized..." Rene said taking one of the pieces of fudge she brought over. "I think he is truly coping well with being... a vampire."
"That's great... I know it's hard at first." Jada said with serious nod.
Rene smiled widely. "Yes, I'm glad that it seems like the hard part of all of this is over. We are past it now. Things are slowly going back to normal."
"Just remember, just because he is a vampire, doesn't mean you can't still get pregnant again. You will have to continue taking precautions." Alice said with amusement in her eyes. "We have enough vampire pregnancies to worry about at the moment."
Rene's face turned pink. "Oh, don't worry, Carlisle ran that by us last month. We are being careful."
I couldn't help but make a face as I attempted to get up from my seat.
"Here, let me help you Bella." Jada said lightly helping me up to my feet. "If you need something, you should just let us know, we can get you anything you need."
"That's very nice of you, but I need to keep moving, or I'll be stuck in that chair all day." I laughed as I went to the fridge to get myself a big cup of blood.
The three of them watched me with concern on their faces. As if they were waiting for me to double over in pain... or fall. They were beginning to make me a little nervous.
"You know, I wouldn't be surprised if you ended up having twins Bella." Rene said with a sly look in my direction. "For as big as you are... it makes sense."
"I never even thought of that." Alice beamed with excitement coming to her eyes. "Does twins run in your family?"
Rene nodded. "Yes, my mother was a twin and Charlie's great grandfather was a twin. It runs in both sides of our family."
My heart began to race as I let that thought sink in. I should have felt happy about this, but I was only filled with fear. I've made through a pregnancy with just a single child. But I had know idea how it was going to turn out if I had twins.
I swallowed hard as I took a big sip of the blood. "Well... that's... interesting." I forced out of my mouth.
They all noticed my discomfort so the subject was dropping.
I was thankful for that. I didn't want to think about it. Not without Edward being here. If things were to turn sour with this pregnancy we needed to decide what to do. If I can't... survive delivering both of them... I would have to ask for Edward to turn me.
I just hoped that he was ok with that. This was something that we never really talked about. But I'm sure that he had an idea of how I felt. I wasn't completely against the idea... I just would have liked more time as human so I could take care of the baby when it was born.
But after seeing how Charlie has adapted, I had more confidence that I would be able to control myself. Charlie and little Greg seemed completely fine together. Charlie wasnt' uncomfortable. So I should theoraticly be ok, as well.
Thankfully Edward, Charlie and Darius came marching in; they all wore big smiles as they came into the kitchen. Between the three of them, the only one that didn't have any sign of blood on them was Edward. Charlie had a few drops on his collar and Darius' mouth still was stained red.
Edward came to my side instantly, kissing me gently. "Is everything ok?" His eye searched my body for a minute. "I tried getting back to you as soon as I could."
I hugged him close to me. "Yes, everything is fine now." I turned to look over at Darius. "Please get yourself washed up."
Darius sighed, but nodded. "Alright mom," He said reluctantly heading back out of the room.
Charlie took a seat next to Rene, pecking her cheek. "Is see you made the fudge... wish I could eat it... if I did it would just come back up." He said with a sheepish look.
"I know it's alright, these are for Bella anyway." Rene said leaning into Charlie's side.
It was nice having everyone here, we were only missing Avery and Rose now. But I'm sure we wouldn't be seeing them until later tonight. The both of them went into town for something; wasn't sure what.
Just as I finished my cup of blood I decided to get up, it felt like I needed to use the bathroom. Edward helped me to my feet, but as I took my first step I felt a sudden gush of water fall between my legs.
I looked down in embarrassment.
Had I really just peed my pants? Or did my water break?
Rene gasped getting to her feet. "Bella, your water... we need to get Carlisle over here right now." She said looking panickied.
Alice quickly got her phone out and started dialing.
"We need to get her to the medical room setup!" Jada urged, as she and Edward helped me move out of the kitchen and down the hallway.
I was thankful that Alice had constructed this extra room, to act as a comfortably and sterile place for me to give birth. Walking into the room was like transporting myself into a hospital room. The smells, the bright lights, the crisp white flooring and walls.
A hard contraction came over me, strong enough to knock the wind out of me. I was semi aware of everything going on. But there was so many voice and noises that everything was a blur. I was scared, but the moment I got laid down and felt Edward's hand in mine, I was ok.
I could vividly hear Darius yelling from outside the door. Someone must have closed the door behind us; once we got in and got settled in.
"I want to go in there... I have to be there for my mom." I heard Darius call out. He sounded scared.
It broke my heart, but I couldn't speak. Each time another wave of contractions hit me all I could do is scream and sob. The pain was overwhelming, worse than I remembered.
"Damn it Carlisle, where are you?" Edward muttered from beside me.
I turned slightly to peak in his direction, but I had a hard time focusing on him long enough to see his expression. I knew that he was just as worried and nervous about all of this. So I had to tell him now.
"Edward, listen," I said lowly. "If there is any complications... make sure this baby survives. That is the priority. And if it looks like I'm not going to make it... turn me." I forced out of my mouth.
"... I won't let you die. I couldn't live without you Bella." Edward replied, leaning down to kiss me one last time, before I felt the room start to spin and everything went black.
Darius' Point of View
I was relieved to see grandpa Carlisle made it here, my mom sounded like she was in a lot of pain... but now the room was completely silent.
"I hope she is ok..." I muttered, feeling tears roll down my cheeks.
Alice bounced over to me, pulling me in for a hug. "She will be ok, I promise you. Carlisle and Edward is in there... they won't let anything bad happen to her. Or your sibling.
I nodded, holding onto Alice. I needed her more than anyone else right now. She had always been here for me when I needed her. She was my best friend. She always knew what to say to make me feel better. I just hope that some day I can do the same for her.
Jada was consoling my grandma at the moment. Charlie was standing watch at the front door; he didn't want anyone else popping up that shouldn't be.
It felt like hours before I heard my mother scream out again. The sound relieved me, because I knew that she was still alive. Even though by the sounds of it, they were torturing her in there... I was just glad to hear that she was still alive and fighting.
Alice tried to get my mind off of everything, but taking me back into the kitchen and making me something to eat. But I already knew that there was no way I could eat at a time like this. Not with my mother in the other room, suffering.
"Now, I can't make this as well as your mother, but I'm pretty good at making pancakes." Alice said with a weak smile, as she stood at the stove.
I nodded, unable to concentrate.
Until I heard a soft cry coming from the other room. It was a cry that didn't come from my mother and it didn't come from little Greg. It was so light and airy.
The baby was here.
I dashed back out of the kitchen and went to the door of the medical room. Carlisle opened it just a crack. "First baby is here, it's a girl." He said with a slight smile.
"The first baby?" I asked, my heart beating really fast in my chest. "Do you mean there is another one... in there?"
Carlisle nodded. "There is one more baby... we are having some mild complications with the next one, so I have to get back to Bella." He said with a nod. "Edward will be bringing the baby out when she is clean."
With that Carlisle shut the door again.
I turned to the rest of them with tears. "Complications? What does that mean?"
My grandma began to cry as well, opening her arms out to me. "Come here honey, it's going to be ok."
I went to her and sat with her; she held me close and kissed the top of my head. "Is she going to be ok?" I looked up to Rene.
"I have faith in Carlisle and Edward. They will make sure your mom will make it through this." She spoke quietly to me.
Again, the door to the medical room opened, this time it was Edward that came walking out; his arms covered in blood. But he held a tiny blanket in his arms. His expression... would haunt me for the rest of my life.
He looked... terrified.
Alice danced over to him and took the baby from his arms so he could return to the medical room.
"Bring her over here Alice, please?" Rene called out to her, wiping the tears from her face.
Alice did as she asked and brought the baby over to us. The moment I saw the baby I felt a smile come to my face.
She had brown eyes like me. But the bit of hair at the top of her head was the same color as Edward's. She was a beautiful baby. My new little sister.
"Do you want to hold her Darius?" Alice asked with a smile.
I nodded, opening my arms. "Yes,"
Alice handed the baby carefully over to me. "Be very careful, she is fragile." She reminded me gently.
The baby was so small and innocent, it was so hard to believe that was the bump my mother had been carrying for months. I watched down at her.
"I'll protect you for the rest of my life." I whispered down to her.
Her brown eyes made contact with mine and for a moment I thought that she smiled at me.
"What's her name?" I asked, looking towards Alice.
Alice smiled slightly. "Your mother wanted something unique for her. So, she came up with Ezra."
I wasn't sure about the name, but if it was what my mother wanted, that's what it would be.
"Ok, Ezra, nice to meet you. I'm your big brother, Daruis." I said with a warm smile. "Everyone here loves you very much."
Rene cooed over the baby, taking her next to show her to grandpa Charlie. I could tell they were both excited, but still very worried about my mom.
There was some commotion happening in the medical room, yelling and screaming, the sound of flesh being cut open. I had to cover my ears. It was only making me feel worse. I wanted to see what was happening and help them in some way. But I knew they wouldn't allow me.
Carlisle opened up the door again, this time he was the one coming out with a little bundle in his arms. Blood was all over his clothes, his hands... he looked like he like he butchered someone.
"The next baby made it through ok, it's another girl." Carlisle said, appearing worried. "Edward has chose to name her, Kora."
Well the name was unique... not the name I would have chosen, but he was the father.
"Is it over? How is Bella?" Rene asked with concern on her face.
Carlisle handed Kora over to Alice to hold. "Well... Bella will survive... just not in the way we had hoped."
My heart sunk in my chest at his words. "What do you mean? Can I see her?" I got to my feet quickly and rushed over to him.
Carlisle sighed, nodding slightly. "Her heart... gave out, before we were able to get Kora out. We had to get Kora out by caesarean. And... well... if we didn't act quickly she would have passed away... but Edward turned her... she is in transition right now."
Rene was sobbing now, turning into Charlie. "I-I never... w-wanted that for her..." She spoke quietly to Charlie. "Don't get me wrong... I'm glad she is alive... it's just not the life I was hoping for her."
Charlie held Rene close, lightly stroking Ezra's tiny face. "Things will work out... Bella will be ok. This is a hard life... but it's better than the alternative. She will find happiness in this... I'm sure she will."
I swallowed hard, watching Carlisle. "I'm going to see her."
To be completely honest, I've always wanted my mom to become a vampire. I wanted to know that she would be around forever. I needed her... always. And now I would never lose her.
But, I never thought about what her feelings on it was. I had always just assumed that she had planned on becoming one. I hoped that... this wouldn't upset her.
Carlisle placed his hand on my back as we walked into the medical room. The room was a disaster area. Blood was everywhere, all over the floors and some even on the walls. Edward sat in the seat next to the bed; where my mother laid. Her clothes were ripped to shreds and also covered in blood.
Edward looked up at me with pain in his eyes, quickly he covered up my mother's body as I walked over to him.
"Darius... I'm so sorry... how this turned out. I didn't want to... I didn't think it would turn out this way." He looked like he was about to cry.
I shook my head and moved to him to wrap my arms around him.
This was the first time that I ever hugged Edward. But I was finally ready to accept him fully. He did the one thing that made it impossible for me to hate him.
"You saved my mother's life... and now I will never be without her... so thank you... Thank you for loving her so much that you would do this." I said, feeling tears slid down my cheeks.
Edward froze in his seat, but hugged me back. "I just... hope she forgives me. For bringing her into this... an eternity of pain."
"Don't see it like that. Look at Charlie... and Jada. Things were hard, but they found happiness in this life." I said with hope filling me.
I turned now to look at my mother. I could barely recognize her. She was so pale and still... as if she was dead. But I could still see the rise and fall of her chest. She was still breathing. I still had the strength to hold on.
"She will be resting now, until the transition period is over." Carlisle said moving over to Edward and I. "For now, I'm going to send Alice in to get her cleaned up a bit and into some fresh clothes."
I nodded, lightly reaching out to take my mother's hand. "I'll be right back mom. I promise." I said quietly.
Edward didn't move, he just continued to watch my mom. It didn't seem like he planned on leaving the room. Even for a moment.
"Edward, you have two little babies out there, that would like to meet their father." Carlisle reminded him.
Alice popped in now with a bunch of supplies in her hands. "That's right, I need the both of you out of here, just for a minute." She said with a smile.
"Fine," Edward said with a sigh, getting up from his seat.
Carlisle and I followed him out of the room. At the moment, Ezra was with Rene and Kora was with Jada. But as Edward took a seat in the living room, they passed both of the girls to him.
The moment they made it to his arms, he smiled for the first time since this nightmare started. He watched down at them as if they were the only thing that mattered.
"They are beautiful Edward," Rene spoke up with pride in her eyes.
"The one, has very different eyes." Charlie spoke with with a grin comming to his face. "Kora,"
Edward nodded, his smile getting wider. "She has the same eye color I had... when I was human..."
I peaked over to the babies, looking to Kora. And they were right. This baby had the most beautiful green eyes I'd ever seen. She was a little fussier than Ezra.
I had a feeling Kora would be the troublemaker.
Edward began to feed Ezra; her bottle was a mixture of milk and blood. We wasn't sure which the babies would prefer, so we just mixed them.
"Would you like to feed Kora?" Edward wondered, looking to me curiously.
I nodded eagerly and gently took Kora from him and the bottle. "No problem... dad."
At my words the entire room went silent. I felt my face getting red as all the eyes moved to me. "What?" I muttered, looking down in embarrassment. "We are a family now... I might as well get used to it... if you don't mind"
Edward smiled, patting the top of my head. "It would be an honor, to call you my son."
I felt tears starting to come again, but I pushed them back.
Finally. I had a father that I could be proud of. A guy that truly cared for me and my mother. Our little family has grown and now... it's complete.
The moment was ruined however, as my phone began to ring. I shifted a bit to get the phone out of my pocket. I checked the number.
Great. It's my dad... no... it's Demetri. He didn't have the right to be my father anymore. He no longer had the title.
"It's Demetri? Isn't it?" Edward asked, looking over at me with concern.
I sighed and nodded. "Yeah, it is... and I don't want to answer it." I said passing the phone over to Edward.
Edward swiftly answered. "Hello," His tone was even, but I could see the annoyance coming into his eyes.
"Darius passed the phone to me, he didn't want to speak with you at the moment." Edward spoke simply.
There was a long pause; I couldn't hear what Demetri was saying, but I could see that it was beginning to bother Edward.
"Bella is ok... she ended up delivering twins... the delivery was to much for her to handle... and we had to turn her... she is in transition right now." Edward said with a tight jaw.
I heard yelling now from the other end of the phone. This angered me. He was always losing his temper and saying hurtful things.
Well, he wasn't going to yell at my new father. He didn't have the right. And I would set that straight with him right now.
"Pass that phone to me please," I said holding my hand out for the phone.
Edward raised a brow, but passed it to me.
"Listen, Demetri, don't you dare call here and yell at the man that just saved my mother's life." I snapped into the phone.
"Darius, is that you?" Demetri's voice sounded rough, as if he was attempting to hold back his sorrow.
"Yeah, you need to stop calling me."
"I'm your father, if I'd like to speak with you... I will call." He responded heatedly.
"Not anymore. As far as I'm concerned Edward is my father now. So just leave us alone." I said and hung the phone up.
I jammed my phone back into my pocket, and shook my head. "I don't know who he thinks he is." I grumbled.
Kora whimpered for a minute, bringing my attention back to her. She looked up at me with sadness in her eyes.
"I'm sorry little sis, I know your hungry." I said gently putting the bottle back towards her mouth.
She sucked at it quickly, settling back down.
Edward watched me with concern. "Are you alright? Do you want to... talk about it?"
"No, I just want to forget Demetri exists." I said, not making eye contact with anyone. "I'm just going to focus on caring for my sister and watching over my mother."
That was my priorities for now.
What do you think? Are you enjoying the story so far?
The next few updates might take a while to get uploaded. I'm returning to school tomorrow so I'll have a lot less time to write.
