As promised, the infamous Marvel mid-credit scene! Enjoy!
Washington D.C., USA – Edward's POV
I had just sat down at the kitchen table, ready to enjoy my breakfast when my son, Adam, let out the loudest cry I had ever heard from him.
My toast fell from my hand and I bolted towards the sound, my heart hammering as my mind raced to every worst-case scenario possible.
Winry joined me at the entryway, both of us out of breath as we stared at Adam, eyes wide in disbelief.
"What happened?" wondered Winry quickly, already scanning out seemingly unhurt son.
Adam lifted the newspaper with trembling hands as tears started to fill his eyes. I quickly took the paper and read over the headline as Winry pulled our son into a tight hug.
"What happened?" she repeated, looking up at me this time.
It took me a moment to respond as I reread those bold letters. "Captain America. He's – he's gone."
Winry took a deep breath before leading Adam back into the house, mentioning something along the lines of staying home from school that day. That was probably a good idea considering he definitely would not have been paying attention in class.
His hero was suddenly gone.
I slowly followed them inside as I unfurled the paper and already began reading the article. There wasn't much pertaining to what had actually happened to Steve. I figured they – whoever they were – were keeping things under wrap for the moment.
Probably forever if the government got even more evolved in all this.
I massaged my face as I flopped back into my seat, reaching for my toast once more as I continued to read the article, about Steve's many exploits and how… how…
The toast fell once more.
I gripped the paper tightly as I read the small section of the article over again. No specifics were given – of course they weren't, what type of reporting did this person even do?! – but, it was mentioned that a Howling Commandos had gone missing during the same mission as Steve and that there was an ongoing search for them.
A Howling Commando. On a mission with Steve.
A sinking feeling in my gut told me that it was Evelyn. She had been adamant about following Steve, about looking out for him. From conversations with Al, he had suspected that she even considered Steve a like a brother. So, of course, if Steve was going into the line of fire, Evelyn was sure to follow.
I didn't have any proof but –
I jumped at the sound of the phone ringing. I walked over, answering it. "Hello?"
"Brother? Did you read the paper this morning?" came Al's voice on the other end softly.
I nodded. "Yeah, just finished it…"
"Do – do you think they're looking for…?"
I guess he came to the same conclusion. "Yeah, I think so."
Al sighed on the other end and I paused. If it was Evelyn… Yes, it mattered to me because I knew that pest but, to Al, she was still my doppelganger. To Al, he lost a version of me.
It's like when I lost Alfons, Al's doppelganger from this side of the Gate.
It had still hurt.
"I'm sorry, Al," I whispered, leaning against the wall.
"I'm sorry too, Brother," he replied before taking a deep breath. "I hope they find her."
A part of me had this feeling that they wouldn't but, for Al… "I hope so too."
"She's coming here when they do," he stated with determination. "I'll drag her kicking and screaming if need be."
I cracked a smile at those words on top of the image that came to mind. Especially when I pictured the amount of times Al actually pulled me as I was literally kicking and screaming. He had the advantage of being in a suit of armour back then though. Maybe with the age difference, his method would still work.
"I don't doubt you will," I replied instead. "We'll just to wait for now though."
I heard Al huff on the other side before he answered, "Fine."
"Fine. You take care of yourself, Al."
"You too, Brother."
We said our goodbyes and hung up. I stared at the phone before sighing once more, massaging my face roughly.
My gut was usually right and… It was sadly telling me I wouldn't see Evelyn again…
Will there be a end-credit scene...?
;D
