Origins Of LUNR
Chapter 38: The Beginning Of Terror
(FLASHBACK)
Bayne was in the Atlas Military Base where everybody in the building was in shock, panic or in disarray. Bayne had brought Aion to the Interrogation room which is heavily guarded by Atlas soldiers, where Aion's laughter was heard.
Bayne slams his hands on the table as he looked at Aion. The man had a pointed, pale face with two golden-colored, downturned eyes, and full but thin eyebrows. His hair slicked back, hair from the lobe of the ear is a pale yellow that fades into the white at the bottom section.
He wears a mustard yellow form-fitting suit similar to a men's jumpsuit with faint violet, tribal decals. There is a hood on the suit. For shoes, he wears white combat boots.
"The nuke, where'd you get it?" Bayne asked in an angry voice.
"Why, you want one? Copycat!" Aion jeered.
Suddenly, the wall behind him burst open as Kall flies in anger. At this point in time, Kall was wearing different attire. He wore a long red jacket with a hood that reaches down to his calves, a gray sweater with a black collar with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows, and red gloves. He also has on baggy black cargo jeans with gray boots and red straps and highlights, complete with a belt at his hip with a white rose buckle. "Get away from him," Kall ordered as he toss the table aside and grabs Aion by the neck.
"Hey Kall, how's your wife?" Aion asked as he laughed. Kall furiously raises his fist at him.
"Kall, don't!" Bayne exclaimed.
This causes Kall to punch on the wall next to Aion's head instead. "How could you? You...you killed my…" Kall trailed off as he looked at the ground
Aion smiled and put a hand on Kall's shoulder "Heh. That's why I like you, Supreme. You're much more gullible than…" Aion looks at Bayne mocking him. Kall tosses him across the room and growls.
"You think you can have a family. That locking me up will magically reform me. And they'll be safe. So big, yet so dumb." Aion mocked. He then takes the chair on the floor and sits down. "Now run along so I can break out of here. I've got lots of planning to do to top this." He added as he holds his hands up. This reaches Kall's breaking point as he lifts Aion up by his neck from his chair.
"That's enough!" Bayne ordered as he walked over to Kall but Kall pushes him aside as Aion realizes what's coming.
"I know it's soon but...think you'll ever love again? Maybe you won't let your next family die." Aion said as he was slightly having trouble breathing through Kall's grip.
Kall had enough and thrust his hand into his chest while Aion's screams in pain as his heart is quickly ripped out and instantly killing him. Bayne watched in horror as there was nothing he could do to stop Kall.
(END OF FLASHBACK)
"He killed him…" Regulus said as he was shocked by the story.
Ozpin nodded "I remember when you reported that to me. I tried contacting him after, but he wouldn't respond." He said.
Bayne nodded at him and then looked at the children in front of him "In my years of fighting crime, I've learned one truth...that every villain is the hero of his own story. Kall was no exception. Aion killed his pregnant wife, Alice and mocked him about it. So when Kall killed Aion, I understood why. We all did." Bayne paused as he looked at Jarvin and the others.
"But once that line is crossed, there was no going back. He gave himself and The Regime a new mandate: 'stop all crime before it happened, by any means necessary.' But he couldn't see his good intentions were leading him down a path of tyranny and evil. THAT's how our greatest hero... became our greatest threat." He said as he thought of another event that happened in his life.
(FLASHBACK)
It was night time in Atlas and Bayne could be seen flying an Atlas Dropship. The Atlassian dropship is a light transport aircraft, complementing the much larger Atlassian airship. Inside with him was his son Damien.
"So WHAT if Kall's pulling criminals out of the base? They're the worst of the worst." Damien stated.
"He's going to KILL them, Damien." Bayne corrected him.
"Sounds like justice to me." Damien replied.
Bayne gave him a stern look "Killing people isn't justice! Kall can't see that. He's grieving. He needs time to heal." Bayne said.
This made Damien raised an eyebrow "Yeah, and what if it had been me, your own son?!" He asked. Bayne stayed silent which made Damien shake his head "Thought you'd say that."
As they approach the Atlas Military, the ship has its autopilot engaged. Damien punches keys on his console, but to no avail. "It's not responding. We're being taken back home." He stated.
"Prepare to eject!" Bayne exclaimed. He punches a red button and he and Damien pop out of the cockpit, they quickly land on top of a house and then jumps to the ground. Bayne stuck his landing but Damien fell into a bush.
Bayne was about to take a step forward until a blast came flying at him from his left side. Bayne quickly dodged and looked at the person who shot at him. The man was as tall as an average Beowolf with bleach blonde hair spiked upwards and slanted golden eyes. The first layer of clothing in his outfit seems to consist of a black bodysuit that goes from the white fur collar around his slightly-exposed pecs and neck down to his yellow-and-white converse shoes - marked by red lines around the soles with four indents at the toe like an animal's paw - and designed with lined areas of grey and black over his abdomen, sides, knees, and legs, though it leaves his muscled arms bare despite also having gloves of the same material.
He also wears dark red shorts that have similar fur designs around the knees, with a grey belt around the waist holding a pouch in the back that apparently contains his Dust and a buckle with his personal emblem on it, a crescent shape with three claw-like marks going through it. The symbol is also seen in a larger size on the back of his armor, colored white with red dotted lines around the jagged edges and covering his shoulder blades, chest, forearms, and outer thighs.
"A warning shot, Ryzer?" Bayne asked as he looked at the man standing in front of him.
"I won't hurt you unless I have to," Ryzer assured him.
"You're gonna have to," Bayne stated bluntly.
"My friends were in Xervia, Bayne! All of them are gone! We do this, that never happens again!" Ryzer said.
"You're right to be angry. But it's not a blank check. And The Regime isn't a death squad!" Bayne said as he slowly moved his hand towards his pocket which Ryzer sees immediately.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you. I know you too well for that to work." Ryzer said as he quickly pulled out his weapon. It was a black revolver with a six-chambered hexagonal cylinder. It has an overall bulky, brick-like shape and possesses characteristics of both a revolver and a semi-automatic pistol, with both a cylinder and a slide.
Bayne quickly pulled a small ball from his pocket and threw it at the ground creating a huge smokescreen. Ryzer shot at the spot Bayne was standing but noticed that he didn't hit anything. Ryzer looked around while the smoke surrounded him. He then heard a beeping sound near his foot and looked down to see a small ball explode in front of him and sent him flying from the explosion.
Before Ryzer could hit the ground. He landed back first on Bayne's knee before Bayne quickly elbowed him hard in the stomach knocking Ryzer to the ground and leaving him unconscious. "You don't know it yet, but Kall's wrong." He said as his smoke cleared.
Damien walked towards his father and looked down at Ryzer. "Your landing needs work," Bayne said.
Damien rolled his eyes and shook his head "Yeah, I'm fine, thanks for asking!" He replied sarcastically.
"Let's go," Bayne said, ignoring his sarcasm.
Later, they arrived at the Base, where two guards are watching the front gate from outside and one from inside. Bayne and Damien swoop down and knock out the outside guards. The inside guard looks around to see what's going on and Bayne kicks the guard in his face. The two then take care of other guards. Bayne punches one guard repeatedly in the head, then checks his pulse.
"So you won't kill, but you're fine with traumatic brain injuries," Damien said.
"Secure the loading docks." Bayne quickly replied, ignoring the jab.
As Damien does that, Bayne heads for the front doors. But Diana quickly walks through them and looks at Bayne with sheer anger.
"Here to help, Bayne?" She asked as she kicks the gate off the hinges.
"Yes. To keep you and Kall from making a terrible mistake," Bayne said.
"NONE of us wanted this. But Aion forced our hand. Xervia changed the world. Now WE have to change with it." She said as she draws her black rapier sword.
"Not like this! You're going about this as criminals. You waited for Ironwood to leave, knowing he wouldn't approve of this." Bayne said as he readied himself.
"Of all people, I thought YOU would understand!" She exclaimed as she prepared to attack.
As she was about to attack, Diana was kicked in the face and sent flying. Bayne's eyes widened as he saw who delivered the kick "Dyna!" He exclaimed.
Dyna smiled and looked at him "Hey Bayne, glad I made it in time." She said before Diana got back to her feet.
Diana started to dust off her dress while shaking her head. She then picked up her sword that was lying on the ground beside her and looked at Dyna who smirked at her. "You're literally being his rebound girl. You have no reason to be doing this Diana." Dyna mocked as she shook her head and put her hands on her hips.
"Rebound? You know better than anyone that I am nobody's rebound. Kall needs my help and I will help him as much as I can." Diana responded.
Dyna shook her head again knowing that Diana wouldn't understand. "I'll take care of her, you need to get to Cellblock C, Kall should be there. Flash was heading there, but Paul escaped and he's chasing him down. I contacted Ironwood, he and Winter are on there way." Dyna stated.
Bayne nodded and made his inside. Diana sighed and started walking towards Dyna who started walking towards her "Some friend you are. You think you're worthy to battle me?" Diana asked.
Dyna balled up her fist and started cracking her knuckles "I can break every bone in your body." She said.
Diana swung her sword in a threatening manner and smirked "I only need to break one." She replied.
Inside Cellblock C, a group of jump-suited men is marching in a line, watched by armed guards. A doctor checks a list on a clipboard as they walk by him. But one prisoner stops and knocks the clipboard out of the doctor's hands. "Doc, what are they gonna DO to us?! Where we going?!" The prisoner asked.
The doctor doesn't answer, as the prisoner puts him in a chokehold "I ain't goin' nowhere till you tell me what's happening!" He exclaimed.
"GET BACK IN LINE!"
Everyone stops in their tracks as Kall hovers in, eyes glowing red as the prisoners give him a wide berth.
"NOW!" He ordered, putting fear into the bodies of others with just his voice.
The prisoner drops the doctor, who scrambles out of the way as Kall approaches. But suddenly, Bayne drops in through the skylight and lands in between Kall and the prisoner. Kall doesn't seem surprised by this but keeps his eyes on Bayne.
"Two minutes!" He said.
The guards lead the now-very-compliant prisoners out of the room; they knew the leaders of the Regime were about to throw down. "You're better than this, Kall." Bayne said as he looked at Kall.
Kall shook his head, disagreeing with Bayne "These inmates are irredeemable. They're thieves, rapists, murderers! Like Aion! That's the problem with fighting for truth and justice: the battle never ends!"
Bayne gave Kall a stern look "And executing them will end it?! First Aion, now this...when does it stop?" He asked.
"When there's no more crime. When people can live without fear! We want the same thing, Bayne…" Kall stated as he gritted his teeth.
"I wanted to kill my wife's murderer. I could have. But that's not the life she wanted for me. And it's not the life Alice would want for you." Bayne said with a gentle voice.
Kall's eyes started glowing red as he glared at Bayne "Don't you put that on me!" He demanded as he clenches his fist.
They look face-to-face, eye-to-eye...and until Kall notices that Bayne is holding what looks like a grenade.
"A Blue Ray grenade?" Kall asked, knowing exactly what it was meant for.
"To temporarily nullify our semblances. You need to stop. Take time to grieve before it's too late." Bayne said.
"You wouldn't…" Kall stated bluntly.
Bayne smirked and clicked a button on the grenade and dropping it to the ground, setting it off. The force of the grenade forces both of them back. Kall glared daggers at Bayne "You're supposed to be my friend!"
"Which is why I have to stop you!" Bayne said as he ran towards Kall.
Kall stepped back knowing he was in trouble. When it came to inhuman power, Kall had Bayne beat. But when it came to just hand to hand combat, Bayne outranked him. Kall tried to swing at Bayne but he quickly dodged and spun around to elbow Kall in the face. He then kneeled down and kicked Kall in the stomach making him stumble backward. Bayne quickly grabbed Kall's collar and pressed him firmly against a wall behind him.
"You made those grenades to stop people from using their semblances for evil. Not to use on your friends." Kall said.
Bayne gritted his teeth "And what do you think you're doing right now with your semblance." Bayne retorted.
Kall growled and head-butted Bayne which angered Bayne and made his slam Kall's head against the wall. He then grabbed Kall's arm and flipped him over to slam him on the ground. As Kall tried to get up Bayne kicked him in the face and sent him flying.
Knowing how inferior he was without his semblance Kall quickly got up and dashed towards Bayne with complete rage. He started attacking randomly throwing multiple punches while Bayne started dodging. The two began trading off blows while dodging attacks.
Bayne then dodged once more before delivering a quick spinning kick to Kall's face making him stumble once again. Bayne then rushed forward and started repeatedly punching Kall in the face until he fell to the ground.
"I'm sorry, Kall." He said as he started walking towards him.
"Get away from me!" Kall said as he tried to get up.
"Look who I found!"
Kall and Bayne both turned to see Damien bringing in a man with many, MANY cuts on is head and torso.
Damien smirked as he was pulling out a knife and holding it to the prisoner's throat. "Zeeks, the psychopath. How many women have you killed?!" He asked as he looked at Zeeks.
Zeeks started chuckling "H-hundred...twenty-one?" He said trying to make sure he got an accurate number.
"A hundred and twenty-one. Huh! Sounds incorrigible to me." Damien said as he looked at his father.
"Damien, let him go!" Bayne ordered.
"You'd rather fight your friends than the real problem," Damien stated.
"I'm warning you, son!" Bayne said in a stern voice.
"Son"?!" Damien exclaimed as he kicks Zeeks to his knees. "You didn't raise me! My mother did!" He finished as he slits Zeeks' throat, to even the shock of Kall. Zeeks fell dead to the floor with blood pouring out of his throat.
"Problem solved. Who's next?" Damien asked.
"DAMMIT, Damien! This is a line we do not cross!" Bayne started to yell until Damien kicked him to the ground.
"Then stay on your side, Bayne! I'll be at Kall's!" Damien said
"Damien…" Bayne said in disbelief.
"You coward! We're at war with these animals! You think you're better than HIM?!" Damien asks as he points to Zeeks. "You let Aion keep on killing! You couldn't save Aion or Mom or ANYONE!" Damien yelled out in pure anger. Bayne knew how Damien felt, but killing was against his code.
Kall walked over to Damien and put his hand on his shoulder. "That's enough. Let's go."
Damien raised an eyebrow as he was now confused. "But the inmates-"
"Not today." Kall cut him off. They clasp arms and Kall takes off slowly through the skylight, now that the effect of the Blue Ray grenade wore off. Damien was staring at his father as he takes off. Bayne looks down at the dead body of Zeeks sadly… knowing that his son is lost to him.
(END OF FLASHBACK)
"Months later Kall and the other's were captured and locked up… My son was there too. But they escaped without breaking their way out. Ironwood and I came to the conclusion that Salem helped them out." Bayne explained.
Roy looked at the ground for a moment, thinking to himself and then looked at Bayne "So then if that's the case then why not use the Blue Ray grenade?" Roy asked.
Bayne looked at Roy and nodded "That would be the logical option. But the grenade is only temporary and it only lasts for five minutes. Even if I did use it on him, Salem and the rest of the team would back him up. Then there's Diana, Ryzer, and Damien they're just as strong." Bayne pauses and starts to pace the floor.
"There's also the fact that Terror has been conducting experiments on fusions between humans and Grimm." Bayne added.
"Wait what?" Ruby asked.
Bayne nodded "There have been reports and sightings of Humanoid Grimms. A scientist named Richter who was placed in an Asylum was set free by Terror and is now working for him and Salem. Terror could have possibly fused himself with a Grimm and if so he'll have a way to get around the Blue Grenade."
"There's no way, you're not serious are you?" Jaune asked.
Regulus stepped forward and nodded "He is and I can prove it." He said.
Regulus then looked at Dyna, Estelle, and Midori who all nodded. "Krisis, come out and introduce yourself," Midori said in a motherly tone.
Moments later Krisis appeared in front of her growing back to his original size. This caught everyone by surprise except for Regulus and his group. Uzziel quickly grabbed his weapon and aimed it at Krisis while Yang, Lance, Ruby, and Weiss prepared themselves.
"Hold on Uzziel! Don't attack him, he's on our side." Estelle said, grabbing onto her brother.
"She's right! Put your weapons down we swear he's harmless." Dyna said as Krisis began to laugh and sticking his tongue out.
Midori smacked his arm and wagged her finger at him "It's not funny Krisis!" She scolded.
Krisis rubbed his arm "We are sorry." He responded.
Ozpin and Bayne looked at each other for a moment and then nodded at one another "Maybe you should start from the beginning." Ozpin said.
Ten minutes later…
After Regulus finished telling Krisis's story, everyone seemed to calm down. "I see. I fully understand the situation. But I think it'll be best to keep an eye on him. I trust your judgment but there's no telling what Terror or Salem is up too. Regulus, Midori, Dyna and Estelle since you all have interacted with Krisis here I'll leave you guys in charge to watch him… is that okay?" Ozpin asked.
Krisis looked at them and nodded. Estelle looked at Ozpin and nodded "We'll make sure to watch him, sir." She said
"So... what now? I mean, what can we do?" Jaune asked.
Ozpin put a finger to his lips and thought for a moment. "Mm, that is a difficult question. One that I believe is best answered tomorrow."
"What do you mean?" Regulus asked.
"The road ahead is undoubtedly filled with hardships and peril. However, it's been far too long since you have all been together." He puts his hand on Yang's shoulder as he says this. "Please, take tonight, enjoy this moment." He finished which made Yang smile.
Suddenly Oscar's eyes glow, with Ozpin giving him control back to his body. Oscar realizes he has his hand on Yang's shoulder "Geh!" He said as he quickly takes it off and nervously holds his cane in his hand.
Yang, Arrietty, Midori, and Weiss laugh at him, before hearing a noise from Nora.
"Oooohhh. Raven? Qrow? They're birds! Cracked it!" She exclaimed, suddenly realizing. Ren shakes his head at Nora being slow on the uptake.
