Marinette and Adrien went to the Dupain-Cheng bakery for lunch, not wanting to deal with their classmates' stares when they could avoid it.
Instead, they ate quietly, happily by a window. Her parents doted on the both of them lovingly, making sure their plates weren't empty until they had to leave for school again. Marinette slowly nursed a cup of coffee, the adrenaline from deflecting Lila zapped as soon as the brunette pulled her little stunt in the courtyard.
Adrien smiled softly, letting his girlfriend lean against him slightly as they walked. At the same time, he was thinking about different ways to get Lila to cry 'Wolf!' He considered they could use either of their connections, but Adrien drew a blank.
That is, until he remembered two things that were on Marinette's portfolio that involved the same person: Jagged Stone. She had commissioned both a pair of sunglasses that the rockstar wore everywhere, and she had even created the album cover for Jagged's new album. Adrien still had the CD that Marinette had signed amongst his drawer of treasured things; how did he have such a talented girlfriend?
Didn't Marinette quote Lila saying that the brunette had saved Jagged's kitten, and thus the artist supposedly wrote a song about the liar? With Marinette's connections to Stone, they could, hypothetically, convince Jagged to discreetly debunk Lila's claims about him; he'd probably be willing to since he, like Marinette, isn't a fan of liars, especially concerning himself.
Those wrapped around Lila's finger may not be easily swayed by just one of the legs of her throne breaking, but it would work just as well. Rose had connections to Prince Ali, right? He could mention to Rose that Lila has been feeling rather gloomful lately and would feel better being able to help the royal boy once more. Adrien felt dirty using his friends to get the result he needed, and he felt even more guilty that someone will inevitably get hurt by his pursuit of outing Lila.
He tilted his head, looking at Marinette. His face turned sorrowful, knowing how much Lila's lies hurt his love. It was a selfish, selfish thought, but he would take away everyone's happiness to give to her. Even that thought felt wrong, so he resided himself to reasoning that his classmates won't feel miserable for all of eternity for exposing the truth. Yeah, that sounded better and less villain-like.
Marinette took her head off of Adrien's shoulder, taking his hand instead as they ascended the stairs of the school, walking into the crowded courtyard together.
Marinette and Adrien walked into Le Grand Paris, taking the elevator up to the room that Jagged had taken up permanent residence in. Penny answered the door, surprised to see the teens standing there.
"Marinette? What are you doing here? Is that Adrien Agreste?"
"Is Jagged here?"
"Excuse me," the assistant said before leaving them at the ajar door. A moment later, Jagged himself came to the door, spinning Marinette and dipping her while he grinned excitedly.
"Marinette! Good to see you, love! Isn't this the bloke you had those pictures of in your room?"
"Hello, sir," Adrien greeted politely, "Yes, that was me."
Adrien took Marinette's hand in his, and Jagged noticed. The musician tilted his head slightly as his eyebrow raised subconsciously before realization hit him.
"You two are together now? Rockin'! I'm going to write a killer song about that one!"
"Funny you mention that, Mr. Stone-"
"Oh, Marinette! I told you that you can call me Jagged! Mr. Stone is way too formal!"
"Right. Jagged, can we come in? It's important."
Hesitant at the sudden mood shift, Jagged steps back to let them in, closing the door behind the two. They walk over to a set of couches, and the rockstar sits opposite of the teens.
"What's up, Marinette?"
"It's about this girl in our class, Lila Rossi."
Lila had doomed herself with her fabricated pride. Marinette has discreetly recorded over her shoulder as Adrien went up to Lila and apologized for taking sides. Then, he had intentionally mumbled about his father providing tickets to a Jagged Stone concert, and then he offered her one with the apology that they weren't the best of seats since they were last-minute.
Lila had done exactly what Marinette expected her to.
"Oh, thank you, Adrien. But I can get us even better seats since I'm so close to Jagged. Ever since I saved his kitten from that airplane and he wrote a song about me in thanks, he's always given me backstage passes and front-row seats to all of his shows! Oh, but I feel so bad because I usually have to decline. My schedule is so busy with charity events these days!"
She had gone on with her lying, but Marinette had stopped the recording, satisfied and not wanting to risk being caught.
Marinette took her phone out, pulling up the video and handing it to Jagged. He hit play, and the young fashion-designer inwardly cringed at the brunette's voice. Stone's eyes grew wide with surprise and anger before he sprung up, still holding the phone.
"I've never seen this girl in my life! Who does she think she is using me to get popular? This is so not right, Marinette!"
"That's not all that she lies about. She has also dragged me down into it too, turning my friends against me."
"Oh, that's it! No one messes with my little up-and-coming star! Where does she live? I'm going to give that stinker a piece of my mind!"
"Jagged, calm down," Penny said, stepping in from the other room just in time to diffuse the man.
"No way! Liars are beyond not cool!"
"I agree, sir! That's why Adrien and I came to see you."
"Oh, you got a plan, little dude?"
"Sir, we were wondering if you could give an interview to a small blog. We know the journalist who runs it."
Jagged Stone sat down in a chair, being pampered by a small makeup team. Meanwhile, Alya was absolutely losing it along with the rest of her class, whom had also come to the school despite it being the weekend in order to see Jagged. Lila was mysteriously absent, but no one could point fingers at Marinette. The heroine sidestepped that possible hindrance by letting Alya tell the liar in front of the whole class.
When the team said that everything was ready, Alya nervously sat down. She greeted Jagged as she took out her phone, forcing her hands to stop shaking.
"Hey, love! Alya, right? Marinette's told me about you!"
"Really?" the blogger asked, whipping around to see the aforementioned girl giving her two thumbs-up from the sidelines.
"Yeah! You ready to start the interview? I have a concert in a few hours, and my manager hounds me to the hills if I miss sound-check."
"Of course, Mr. Stone. Tell me when you're ready, and we'll get started."
Jagged shifted in the chair, crossing his leg over the other so as to be more casual and approachable.
"Ready, love."
Alya presses a few buttons on her phone, clearing her throat before speaking.
"Hello, Ladyblogers. I'm Alya, and I'm here with none other than Jagged Stone himself, legendary rock star!"
"Hello!" Jagged said, waving to the phone camera as he grinned.
"I was surprised that you had approached me for an interview, sir. Care to explain why?"
"Of course, love. I've decided to start a world-wide organization called 'Rockin' Organization for Crocodiles and Reptiles'. My alligator, Fang, may be lucky to have such a wicked life, but many others aren't so much. As the only pet I've ever had, I can't bear the thought of Fang suffering in the wild or in an unsuitable home."
Alya paused, and Marinette heard the confused whispering of her friends behind her as they questioned what Jagged said.
"Fang's the only pet you've ever had?" Alya asked, recovering and hoping she heard wrong.
"That's correct, and I love him more than rock and roll itself!"
"W-what about your kitten? The one that Lila Rossi, the girl you wrote a song about, saved at the airport?"
"Who?"
The murmurs of the peanut gallery strengthen, and Marinette grips Adrien's hand tightly, pressing their shoulders together.
"L-Lila Rossi…"
"Never heard of her, much less wrote a song about her. And I don't even like cats, except for Chat Noir himself; that leather-bloke is pretty awesome by my standards."
Adrien blushes slightly at one of his idols saying that he was awesome, and he is thankful that the classroom is rather dark except for the studio lights pointed at Jagged Stone and Alya.
"I...I don't understand. Why…?"
Jagged, playing dumb, changes the topic before it could escalate further.
"Well, after my last world tour, I had been devastated that alligators were being poached for sport and leather! I had told Penny, my assistant, to help me start preparing for 'ROCK' that very night after my show!"
Alya swallowed hard, poorly steadying her hands, before she took a deep breath. The rest of the interview never strayed away from Jagged's new organization. The rockstar did have to end the interview early, apologizing as Penny's phone had been blowing up with calls and messages from his manager.
Several minutes after he left, and then even more after the crew had packed everything up and left, Lila burst into the classroom, out of breath.
"Oh, I didn't miss it, did I? Was Jagged upset?"
