Chapter 53: Just Friends
In the Diaz Household...
Star and Marco were brushing their teeth with electric Love Sentence toothbrushes.
The two teenagers sway back and forth to the beat of Love Sentence's song Just Friends and lip-syncing the lyrics.
It was no secret, the way that we feel
A love that's so pure, a love that's so real
You showed me your world and it felt like a sign
But you acted too slow, and you ran out of ti-i-ime~
Star and Marco spit their toothpaste into the sink.
"Oh, man, the only thing cooler than these Love Sentence singing toothbrushes is the fact you got us tickets to see them tomorrow!"Marco remarked.
"Duh."Star chuckled. "That's what friends are for! Plus, Love Sentence is like our thing."
"Aw, you would know."Marco replied. "You're my best friend."
"It's not that big of a deal."Star assured.
The door to the bathroom burst open and Serena stood in the doorway, wearing her pink night gown.
"Not a big deal?!"Serena questioned marching up to Star and grabbed her by the shoulders before shaking her. "You mean to tell me that standing in front of the line before it even opened for two hours in the cold morning, wasn't a big deal?!"
"Serena!"Marco said.
Serena stopped shaking Star.
"Okay Rena, maybe it was a bit of a challenge but it's no big deal."Star responded as she removed Serena's hands from her shoulders. "You guys are my friend and cousin. Besides, Love Sentence is our thing."
"But still, thank you Star."Marco commented. "Well, goodnight you guys."
"Good night."Star and Serena replied in unison.
Marco leaves the bathroom.
Serena looked at Star with a mischievous look.
"You got her a ticket right?"Serena asked smugly.
"How could I forget Jackie? She is Marco's girl-"Star said and her left eye twitched a little. "...friend."
"Are you okay?"Serena asked in concern. "You sure you still want to do this?"
"I'm sure."Star assured with a smile. "I can't avoid Jackie being with Marco forever. So I should embrace it and support them as the couple they are."
"But isn't best to tell Marco that-"Serena started.
"No, Rena."Star replied. "It would cause more problems and Marco would be crushed. I don't want that for him. Anyway, goodnight."
The blonde haired girl left the bathroom leaving Serena by herself.
"Sleep tight."Serena mumbled as she started brushing her teeth.
Then Star peeped her head in the bathroom.
"Should I at least tell Marco that Jackie is coming too?"Star asked.
"Go ahead."Serena replied giving a thumbs up.
In Marco's Bedroom...
Marco was sleeping in his bed and then his phone rang causing him to answer it.
"Hello?"Marco said.
"Marco! Are you awake?"Star asked. "I forgot to tell you, there's more."
Marco's phone buzzed again.
"Aw, wait."Marco said. "I'm getting a call from Jackie."
"Yeah, you are!"Star chuckled.
Marco answered Jackie's call.
"Hey, Jackie."Marco greeted. "Uh, is everything all right?"
"Dude, Love Sentence tickets?"Jackie remarked. "You're smoother than you let on, Marco Diaz."
Marco chuckled nervously. "What?"
"Ooh, gotta go. Gotta crush this ramp."Jackie stated. "See you tomorrow!"
Marco went back on Star's call.
"Star! Did you get tickets for Jackie, too?"Marco asked.
There was no response.
"Star!"Marco snapped. "I know you're there."
Star slowly rose up behind Marco's bed.
"Hello?"Marco called out. "Did you get Jackie tickets?"
"You did."Star commented as she poked her head up.
Marco gasped and brought up his blanket.
"Aren't you excited, Marco?"Star asked with a smile. "You guys are a thing now! The four of us are gonna be hanging out a lot. I don't want Jackie feeling left out 'cause I'm a supercool girl who's also your supercool best friend."
"Yeah, you are."Marco answered. "I'm just...I'm just worried that with you around, Jackie will realize I'm not as super-cool."
"I've dated before."Star reminded. "Trust me, you'll be fine."
"Fine."Marco sighed. "Just let me sleep."
"Yay! This is gonna be awesome!"Star cheered and leaves Marco's bedroom. "Now, get them beauty sleeps."
The Next Day...
"Rena!"Star shouted from down the stairs. "Hurry up!"
Star shouted up the stairs.
Serena slipped on her shoes on and ran down the stairs and out of the girls bedroom.
The orange haired girl ran down the hallway and slid down the stair railing.
"Okay, I'm ready."Serena responded and jumped down.
"Uh, no, you're not, 'cause I made concert tees~!"Star giggled.
The blonde haired princess used her wand to make four concert tees appear, one of which materialised on her body.
Each of the shirts were a different colour; Jackie a minty green, Marco was red, Serena pink and Star yellow.
"Why am I pink?"Serena asked raising an eyebrow.
"Because Marco is red and Jackie is green."Star said."Also pink is a nice colour for you."
Serena rolled her eyes and placed her tee shirt on.
Marco struggled to put the concert tee on.
"Little tight."Marco mumbled.
The doorbell rings.
"Jackie's here!"Star announced.
Marco let out a panicking grunt.
Star opened the door, revealing Jackie.
"Hey, girlfriend!"Star greeted.
"No way!"Jackie complemented. "You made concert tees?"
"Oh, yeah."Star responded. "Check it out."
"That's so funny, 'cause I made concert skateboards!"Jackie replied and holds up four Love Sentence-themed skateboards. "Whoa!"
"No...way...I can't believe we had the same idea!"Star said in amazement.
"Great minds, am I right?"Jackie asked.
"Trade!"Star suggested.
Star trades a concert tee for one of Jackie's skateboards.
Jackie puts the tee on before noticing Serena and Marco behind Star.
"Hey Marco."Jackie remarked. "Hey Serena."
"Hey Jackie."Serena replied with a wave.
"Hey, Jackie."Marco greeted while struggling to put on his concert tee.
"Hey, Marco."Jackie said as she took off her helmet.
Marco finally puts the tee on, but it's way too small for him.
"Nice shirt."Jackie commented. "Shows off your pecs."
"Skateboards, really?"Marco asked. "I thought we were taking the bus."
"Skateboards are much quicker."Serena stated as she placed on her bright purple helmet.
Star puts a helmet on Marco's head.
"Yeah! Skateboards! It'll be fun!"Star complemented. "Summoning Cloudy Charm!"
She summoned Cloudy with her wand and Cloudy let out a excited scream.
"Love Sentence, here we come!"Star admitted while riding her skateboard on top of Cloudy.
"Whee!"Cloudy cheered.
"Whoo!"Star commented.
Serena went on her skateboard to follow after Star while Marco sighed in defeat.
Afterwards...
Star, Jackie and Serena riding to the concert while talking about Love Sentence.
"Ooh-ooh! I got one."Star said. "How many times did Love Sentence break up before their fourth reunion tour?"
"Uh...Six, if you count the time they broke up on the morning of their second reunion tour and got back together after lunch."Jackie replied.
"Yes!"Star agreed. "Except it was before lunch, not after."
"No, it was totally after."Jackie stated.
"Then let's ask Marco."Serena suggested.
"Yeah, where is Marco?"Jackie asked.
"Right...behind...you!"Marco called out while skating slowly.
"Wow...maybe we should've taken the bus."Jackie commented.
"No!"Marco replied. "Can we just get to the concert?"
Marco skates ahead of Star, Jackie and Serena but crosses a family of ducks.
Mother Duck honks as Marco let out a girly scream.
The duck and her ducklings sailed through the air with Marco.
Marco dropped on the ground followed by the ducklings who chirped at him.
The concert tee that Marco wore teared in half down the middle.
At the Veterinarian's Office...
The three girls watched as the Veterinarian brought a box that held the mother duck and her ducklings.
"The ducks will be fine."the Veterinarian stated.
Mother Duck let out a honk.
"Marco should be fine, too, provided he take some skateboard lessons. The skateboard didn't make it."the Veterinarian said and hands Marco a medical bill. "Your bill."
"650 dollars?!"Marco replied in shock. "Aw!"
At the City Riverbed...
Star slide to the bottom while holding the box of ducks.
"Come on!"Star shouted.
Serena slid down to the river and Jackie skated down.
Marco slide to the bottom of riverbed on his stomach.
Star and Serena looked at the ducklings.
"Aw, they are so cute!"Star admitted as she placed the box of ducks down.
"Little disease-ridden angels."Jackie commented.
"They look cuddly too."Serena chuckled.
"I want to help! Let me help!"Marco stated. "Quack-quack!"
The ducklings gave out alarmed chirps.
"Marco, you're scaring them!"Star reminded.
Marco walked away from the girls.
"It's okay, little babies."Star assured. "He's gone."
"Here you go."Serena said softly as she handed bread crumps for the ducklings to eat.
"Aw!"Marco complained as he walked away.
"Calm down."Star instructed. "We're at your new home."
The ducklings continued chirping.
"Aw, come on, little dudes, don't be nervous."Jackie encouraged.
"Yeah, this place is great!"Star remarked. "Me and Rena used to live here."
"Me, too."Jackie admitted. "Wait, what?"
"Yeah, for, like, a day."Star commented as she picked up the ducklings. "But you guys will make friends so quick! There's the lady that steals hair who lives over there."
Jackie laughed. "Really?"
"Yeah, she smells like shampoo all the time."Star said. "It's crazy."
"No way that's true."Jackie chuckled.
"Yes, it is."Serena responded. "When me and Star were hiding from the cops, the lady brought us to her home and gave us pancakes to eat. I found it quite suspicious that she was so nice to us."
The Mother Duck honks at Star.
"Oh!"Star giggled as she bend down. "Time to say bye!"
The ducklings chirped and jumped into the water.
"Bye, little ducklings."Serena stated.
"Marco, come say bye!"Star suggested.
The three girls notice Marco sitting on a milk crate under the overpass with his head down.
Jackie walked over to him.
Marco holds his ripped concert tee; the rip goes through the picture of his face.
He pushes the left and right sides together, placing Star and Jackie's faces next to each other.
"Marco, dude."Jackie said. "Are you okay?"
"You, Star and Serena should just go on without me. You'll have more fun."Marco commented sadly. "I'll just be here ruining things, breaking skateboards, ripping shirts and traumatizing families of ducks."
Mother Duck honked angrily and started chasing Marco.
"Aah!"Marco panicked and hid behind Jackie.
Jackie pats the duck on the head.
"Dude."Jackie said and pats Marco on the head. "Dude. Don't worry about the skateboard. My uncle works for the company, and I'm...I'm having fun with you, but...these guys deserve an apology."
"I'm s—"Marco started.
"I'm kidding, Marco, but that was really sweet."Jackie responded.
The mother duck and her ducklings return to the water and swam away.
Serena walked up to Jackie and Marco.
Star appeared between Jackie and Marco and puts her arms around them.
"Oh, we should be apologising!"Star answered. "Me, Rena and Jackie were having so much fun, you probably felt left out. But you shouldn't."
"Yeah, we wouldn't have met those cute ducks if it weren't for you."Jackie admitted.
"And that was magical!"Star commented while wiggling her fingers.
"Heh."Marco chuckled. "They were cute."
"The idea was we go together."Serena reminded with a smile.
"Yeah, Marco, come on."Jackie encouraged. "Let's go have fun."
In the Concert Auditorium...
It was night time.
The stage was designed like a prison with searchlights and emergency sirens.
"Remain calm and shelter in place!"the Announcer said. "This is not a drill!"
Something smashed through the prison wall and Love Sentence appeared causing the crowd to cheer.
"Hello, Echo Creek!"Justin Towers greeted.
Jackie, Marco, Star and Serena sat down together, among the crowd.
"Oh, my gosh! Oh, my gosh! Oh, my gosh!"Marco laughed excitedly. "Such pageantry! I love it! I love it!"
"Easy there, Marco."Serena reminded with a smirk. "They haven't even started singing yet."
"Straight out of the Echo Creek Penitentiary, I'm Justin Towers, and this one goes out to everyone who's just friends!"Justin Towers stated.
Ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh...
Marco, Star and Serena gasped before looking at each other.
"Our second-favorite song!"Marco, Star and Serena said in unison.
Jackie grabbed Marco's hand.
"They're playing my favorite song! Whoo!"Jackie cheered and started dancing. "Dance with me, Diaz!"
"Okay."Marco said with a nervous smile.
Star grabbed Marco's other hand.
Marco looked down at Star in surprise and Star stood up next to him, smiling.
The Diaz boy returned the smile and all three of them started to dance.
Star looked to Serena and offered her hand to her, but her cousin wasn't in her seat.
The blonde haired girl looked up and saw that Serena was heading towards the restrooms.
Star shrugged her shoulders and kept dancing with Marco.
Marco looked at Star and smirked as they started to lip sync along with the song.
On stage, Love Sentence danced choreographically.

A guitar solo started to play.
All around Star, couples in the crowd start kissing.
The blonde haired girl sees Marco and Jackie kissing next to her causing her to gasp in shock.
I didn't mean to hurt you
You didn't have a clue
So you went out and got busy
Marco looked at Jackie when they stopped kissing.
"Wow."Marco said in surprise.
And found somebody new, new, new
Marco sees that Star was no longer in her seat and was leaving.
And now we'll be
"Star?"Marco asked. "Where are you going?"
Star makes her way to the front row and Marco followed her.
"Are you all right?"Marco asked. "I'm sorry about the...the, uh...It just kind of happened."
"Oh, don't be silly! I just wanted to be down here by the stage so I could feel their sweat spraying on my face!"Star chuckled weakly. "Sweat."
"Are you sure?"Marco questioned.
"Duh!"Star scoffed. "What are friends for?"
Marco smiled at Star, who smiled back at her.
"Now, go up there and be with your girlfriend!"Star remarked and pushed Marco.
Marco hugged Star.
"You're the best friend a guy could have!"Marco admitted happily.
"Yeah...now, go."Star reminded weakly. "She's waiting."
Too Little Too Late
Marco runs back to his seat.
We spiralled high on a gust of love
Marco and Jackie kissed again while Star watched with a weak smile.
And I knew right from the start
Then Star quietly walked out of the auditorium.
Adyson watched from beneath the billboard as Star walked away with a heavy heart.
"You can stop spying now."Serena reminded as she walked forward.
"I am not spying."Adyson lied. "Wait, how do you know I was here?"
"Dad told me, your an expert at going into concerts without getting spotted."Serena commented with her arms folded.
Adyson frowned. "Oh."
"You know when I first came to Earth, I thought it was going to be boring and nothing exciting was ever going to happen."Serena admitted. "But for the past weeks, somehow everything seemed to be getting better. I now know I have a dad and a little sister."
"Half-sister."Adyson corrected firmly. "Same dad, different mums."
"I know."Serena chuckled.
"Beside that your pretty cool."Adyson complemented. "I mean being a princess and all that."
"Well, your pretty cool too."Serena reminded.
Adyson and Serena smiled at each other.
Nothing could tear us apart
'Til the day you broke my heart
As Star walked off with a smile, she fired a green beam of energy from her wand into the air.
Adyson notice something green glowing in the sky.
"What the heck is that?"Adyson asked.
"Hmm..."Serena said as she looked at the object in the sky. "The closer it gets, the more it looks like a green magic blast."
Adyson and Serena paled as they realised it was a green magic blast.
The two girls freaked out and held onto each other as the blast came towards them.
The blast destroyed a Love Sentence billboard as Star continued walking away with a broken heart.
Oooh-oooh...
At the Diaz Household...
There was a knock on the door.
"Coming."Angie said sweetly.
Angie opened the door revealing Serena and Adyson covered in dust as they came in.
"What the heck happened to-"Star started.
"Don't ask."Serena replied with a frown. "Just don't ask."
