Chapter 55: Starcrushed
At the Diaz Household...
A party to celebrate the end of the school year.
While everyone else enjoys themselves, Marco and Star act awkward and desperately try to avoid each other due to the events of Song Day.
In the Girls Bedroom...
"Star, come on!"Serena demanded pulling the blanket off Star's head. "You have to come to the party!"
Star pressed her face into her pillow, unable to bear the idea of going downstairs to see everybody.
"Rena."Star mumbled through her pillow. "How many times do I have to tell you? I'm not going downstairs."
"And I'm saying you have too!"Serena snapped, sounding annoyed. "You've been avoiding Marco for far too long. You need to try and talk to him. And he needs to talk to you."
Star became alarmed when Serena casted red magic to levitate her.
"Rena!"Star shouted angrily. "Put me down!"
"Not until we get out of this room and downstairs."Serena replied holding out her ring.
The orange haired girl turned away from Star's bed and started down the stairs, pulling Star with her.
Star kept struggling against her spell, but it was no use.
Serena arrived at the top of the stairs to the living room.
She placed Star on the ground and removed the spell around her.
Star got up and started back to their room, but Serena grabbed her wrist and pulled her down the stairs.
"Rena, please no."Star begged.
"Nope, you guys are going to talk and your not getting out of it."Serena stated with a determined look.
Star whimpered as she comes down the stairs and nervously joined the party.
The blonde haired girl slides up to Marco and Jackie.
"Hello, friends!"Star greeted.
"What's up, Star?"Jackie asked. "You having fun?"
"Oh, yeah."Star agreed with a tight smile. "Totally. Hmm."
"I just realized, I have to go to the bathroom."Jackie admitted.
"Oh, uh..."Marco started.
"You two talk for a sec."Jackie responded. "Be right back."
She walked away leaving Star and Marco.
Serena watched her cousin and friend from the stairs.
"Come on, Star."Serena mumbled.
"Cool party, huh?"Star asked.
"So how are you?"Marco asked. "Oh, sorry."
"No-no-no-no, please."Star replied. "You go first."
"What did you say?"Marco asked.
"Sooo..."Star laughed nervously.
"Um..."Marco started.
"You look well."Star admitted.
"Oh, heh-heh, thanks."Marco responded. "I brushed my hair."
"Well, great catching up!"Star remarked.
"Yeah. See ya around..."Marco commented and lightly punched Star's shoulder. "...buddy."
Marco sticks his hand out for a fist bump and Star puts her open palm on top of it.
Star and Marco forcibly laugh before quickly walk away groaning.
Serena scoffed and face palmed in disappointment.
Star moved past Serena and went back into the bedroom.
In the Girls Bedroom...
Serena went to the bedroom and saw Star lying on her bed.
"Star, come on!"Serena encouraged. "Get back out there!"
"Rena, no."Star responded. "I'm not going back down."
"Come on!"Serena stated. "You and Marco were finally talking."
"No, we weren't."Star replied. "We were awkwardly standing in front of each other, not saying or doing anything. That's not talking, Rena."
"It's progress."Serena stated with a smile. "Come on Star, you have to-"
"No, I don't Rena."Star answered with a frown. "You don't get it because you were the one who caused this situation to happen. You've ruined every relationship I've ever had with guys. Well, you need to stop. I'm tired of it."
"I was only trying to help."Serena said softly.
"Well your not."Star admitted bluntly. "You just made my friendship with Marco grow worse."
Serena lowered her head and slowly closed the door.
Star took out her phone and texted 'Emergency Friend Meeting'.
In Ludo's Monster Temple...
The Mewnian tavern rats cheer for a rat eating dozens of cornstalks.
Suddenly Rhombulus bursted in and starts freezing rats in crystal.
Queen Moon entered, followed by Valen, Lekmet, Hekapoo and Omnitraxus Prime.
Omnitraxus turns into a giant fist and punches through Ludo's chamber doors.
Inside, the bald eagle was seen regurgitating bugs and grubs into the giant spider's mouth.
"Eww!"Queen Moon and Hekapoo groaned in disgust.
The eagle and spider charge at the group and Hekapoo opened a dimensional portal for them to slip through.
Rhombulus runs up to Ludo in bed and tosses him to the floor.
"Time to rise and dine!"Rhombulus announced.
"Aah!"Ludo shouted.
Rhombulus crystallizes Ludo from the legs down.
"Ugh...Who are you...? Please don't take my organs..."Ludo said and his vision cleared up. "Queen Moon? What are you doing here?"
"Give me that!"Queen Moon demanded and takes Ludo's wand.
"Hey!"Ludo snapped.
"Where's Glossaryck?"Queen Moon questioned.
"Glossaryck?"Ludo asked. "Um, he's gone."
Queen Moon, Valen, Lekmet, Rhombulus, Hekapoo and Omnitraxus became stunned hearing that response.
Back in the Girls Bedroom...
Star was talking to Pony Head, Janna, Kelly and StarFan13 about her issues.
"So now, Marco and I can barely make eye contact because of Ruberiot's dumb song."Star admitted. "I mean, Marco actually thinks I have a crush on him."
The blonde haired girl let out a hysterical laughter.
"Yeah, but, like...don't you, though?"Pony Head asked.
"What?! No!"Star lied. "Okay, maybe once."
StarFan13 let out a gasp.
"But I don't anymore."Star stated.
"Aww."StarFan13 groaned in sadness.
"I just think he's kinda cute."Star responded. "I think lots of things are cute. Puppies are cute, kitties are cute, tiny peppers are cute—"
"Star, it's cool."Janna assured. "We believe you."
"I just want things to go back to normal."Star responded sadly. "What if they never do, Kelly? What if they never do?"
"Girl, don't freak out."Kelly stated. "Maybe you two just need some space. Like me and Tad, we're on our third break this week."
"Come on, Star."Star encouraged with a smirk. "Let's ditch this place and go to the party the bad kids are having. I heard it's super dangerous."
"Oh! Star, you know what?"Pony Head asked. "You love danger."
"That is true."Star responded.
"Boom! You're in! Let's go!"Pony Head chuckled as she grabbed Star by the collar and carried her out.
In Ludo's Temple...
"What do you mean he's gone?"Queen Moon questioned. "What did you do with him?"
"I didn't do anything."Ludo replied. "Glossaryck showed me something in the spell book and next thing I know, I wake up and they're gone."
Valen frowned. "Seriously?"
"Oh, come on."Queen Moon scoffed. "You stole the book."
"Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa!"Ludo responded. "Glossaryck said the book is mine now. How's that stealing? And I think we can all agree Glossaryck comes and goes as he pleases."
"That's true."Rhombulus agreed.
"Yeah."Hekapoo admitted.
"And I suppose it's just a coincidence that you've taken up shelter here in this ancient monster temple."Queen Moon commenter.
"I'm supposed to know that?"Ludo asked. "This place was empty, so I moved in. It's cold out there! I'm wearing a chip bag, for corn's sake!"
"What about your wand?"Queen Moon questioned. "You have half my family's crystal embedded in it."
"It doesn't even work anymore."Ludo replied. "If it's yours, you can have it. Face it. You've got nothing on me."
Valen narrowed his eyes in suspicion.
"All right, all right, all right, this is getting us nowhere."Rhombulus complemented. "Time for Plan B."
"No, wait."Queen Moon protested.
"No, we need to find Glossaryck."Hekapoo reminded.
The Magic High Commission members leave the room.
Queen Moon started to follow, but she stopped and to look back at Ludo.
"Oh, I...I saw your family, Ludo."Queen Moon admitted.
"My family?"Ludo asked. "Let me tell you about my family."
Back on Earth...
There were young teenagers partying on top of the Stop & Slurpwith loud rock music.
"Wow!"Star, Pony Head, Janna, Kelly and StarFan13 said in amazement.
"See me after class? See thisafter class, Mr. Kimball!"Aaron retorted and throws his failed maths quiz into a trash can fire.
"Ooh, burning homework!"Pony Head chuckled. "So dangerous!"
"Is that legal?"Star asked.
A firefighter woman puts out the fire.
"Don't worry."the firefighter woman assured. "It's a controlled burn."
"This is pretty cool, right?"Kelly remarked. "Janna's having a good time."
"Burn!"Janna laughed as she threw books into the fire. "Burn!"
"Yeah..."Star started.
"Oh, come on, B-Fly, you need to loosen up."Pony Head encouraged as she handed a paper to Star. "Here. Throw this math quiz into the fire."
Star throws math quiz into trash can fire.
"Yeah, I don't feel anything."Star responded sadly. "You guys were so awesome to bring me here, but I just don't think I'm in a party mood right now."
"No, I'm not like that."Pony Head answered.
"You guys stay and have fun with your controlled burn."Star admitted. "I'll see you back at my place."
"Star?"
"Huh?"Star said.
Oskar Greason, with his hair shortened, sits on a car hood with his keytar and walked up to Star.
"Is that you?"Oskar asked.
"Um...yeah. Maybe."Star commented. "Do I know you?"
"It's me, Oskar, I got a haircut."Oskar replied and moved his hair. "Check it out. Mmm!"
"Oskar?"Star said with a surprised look.
"You're not leaving already, are you?"Oskar asked.
"Uh..."Star started and looked at her friends.
Pony Head, Kelly and StarFan13 gave her confident smiles.
"Oh, yeah."Pony Head chuckled.
"He's cute."Kelly complemented..
"Go for it."StarFan13 encouraged.
Star laughed nervously and looked back at Oskar.
At the Diaz Household...
Kevin was out in the backyard looking for Serena.
He then notice a ladder that lead to the roof causing him to go up and investigate.
On the roof, Kevin saw Serena sitting down with a sad expression on her face.
"Hey."Kevin greeted as he walked forward.
"Hey."Serena replied while fiddling with her ring.
"You look a little bit down."Kevin said as he sat down next to Serena. "Something wrong?"
"It's just that I tried to help Star convince her true feelings at Marco, but I sort of ended up screwing things up."Serena responded. "I was just trying to make Star happy. Is that a problem? No, I-"
Kevin closed his eyes and planted his lips onto Serena.
Serena blushed and looked at Kevin in surprise.
"I get it."Kevin answered. "You were just looking out for your cousin. But if I know something about Star, she is someone energetic and so it's likely she will tell Marco how she feels."
"Right."Serena chuckled. "Of course, she would."
In Ludo's Temple...
Ludo was telling Queen Moon and Valen about an incident that happened when he was young.
"Oh, and then, and then, and then, when I was, like, five years old, my big brother Chudo was walking me home from the park and we stopped at this old, burned-down castle, and he said, "Well! Looks like the house burned down."Ludo stated. "Guess we've got to live outside now."
"It sounds like your family has lots of issues with one another."Valen said.
"You have no idea."Ludo answered. "And my father said I brought shame to our family name."
"That must've been difficult."Queen Moon commented. "But I do know that Dennis misses you. He says hello."
"How is he?"Ludo asked.
"He's worried about his big brother."Queen Moon replied. "And so am I."
"Worried about me? Don't you get it?"Ludo questioned. LI lost my army, my kingdom, my clothes! And look–still standing!"
"Yes, but for how much longer?"Queen Moon asked sadly. "You don't look well, Ludo. Tell me what's going on and maybe I can help you."
At the Stop & Slurp...
Star sat down with Oskar on his car.
"So I haven't seen you at school in a while."Star said.
"Yeah, I...dropped out to pursue my music."Oskar replied.
"Oh, you just gonna play...that right now?"Star asked gesturing to the guitar.
Oskar played some synthesized rock music on his keytar.
He then spins his keytar around his neck until the strap snaps and sends the keytar flying into the sky.
"You think maybe...it'll end up on Mars?"Oskar asked.
"Oh, I don't know. I mean, heh, Mars is pretty far away."Star responded.
"What are you saying?"Oskar said in confusion.
"Oh, no, no. I mean, yeah!"Star chuckled with a small smile. "Yeah, maybe. Maybe. Maybe it'll end up on Mars."
"You see, Star? That's what I like most about you."Oskar remarked as he sat down. "You always believed in me."
Oskar holds hand out for a fist-bump.
"Oh, no, I...I always do that wrong."Star responded. "You know, that fist punchy thingy."
"What are you talking about?"Oskar asked. "You can't do it wrong. Just do what you feel."
Star puts her hand on Oskar's fist.
"Is this okay?"Star asked.
Oskar blushed and didn't respond.
Back at Ludo's Temple...
The Magic High Commission searched for Glossaryck.
"Glossaryck?"Hekapoo asked as she went through the dimensional portal. "Glossaryck?"
"Glossaryck!"Omnitraxus called out as he phased through the floor. "Glossaryck!"
Rhombulus held up a frightened crystallised rat.
"Tell me where he is!"Rhombulus demanded.
The rat let out a nervous squeak.
"You're a liar!"Rhombulus shouted.
Lekmet moved a pillar on the ground aside and finds a pile of corn.
He bites one of the pieces of corn and the book of spells falls out.
"Hmm?"Lekmet said as he spits out the corn and picked up the book. "Baaaa!"
Hekapoo, Omnitraxus and Rhombulus regrouped with Lekmet.
"You found Glossaryck?"Omnitraxus asked.
"Baaaa!"Lekmet bleated.
Lekmet opened the book, but the pages were blank.
"Blank?"Rhombulus said.
"That's not the real book."Hekapoo responded.
Rhombulus, Hekapoo and Lekmet return to Queen Moon, Valen and Ludo.
However when the three arrived they found Queen Moon and Valen lying on the ground unconscious with their eyes black.
'Ludo' stood over them with glowing green eyes and holding his wand while laughing evilly.
Toffee's flesh regenerated over the wand and Ludo's right arm, restoring his arm with the wand's crystal embedded in his palm.
"Ludo?"Hekapoo asked.
"Ludo's not here right now."Toffee replied smugly. "But if you'd like, you can leave a message."
Omnitraxus phased up through the floor.
"You did not wanna do that, little man!"Omnitraxus threatened.
Toffee blasts Omnitraxus with dark magic, reducing him to only a skull mask.
Rhombulus, Hekapoo and Lekmet gasped at the sight.
Toffee absorbed Omnitraxus' power and he rose off the ground with Omnitraxus' crags sticking out of the bottom of his crystallized legs.
"That's it!"Rhombulus shouted.
Rhombulus attacked Toffee, who blasted him away.
Hekapoo a disconnected pair of dimensional scissors like daggers, attacks Toffee with a flurry of thrusts, but Toffee lifts her up and down onto the ground.
He starts to absorb Hekapoo's power, but Rhombulus blasted him in the back.
While Toffee fights Rhombulus, Lekmet revived Hekapoo.
Hekapoo let out a deep gasp.
Rhombulus falls and Toffee absorbed his power.
Hekapoo attacked Toffee again while Lekmet revives Rhombulus.
Lekmet let out a tired bleat.
"You can't keep doing that, Chancellor."Rhombulus stated.
Hekapoo made multiple clones of herself.
"Get him!"Hekapoo ordered.
Hekapoo and her clones attacked Toffee all at once, but Toffee blasts them away.
As Toffee absorbed Hekapoo's power, her clones vanished.
Then he absorbed Rhombulus power again.
Lekmet bleated weakly crawled over to Moon to revive her and then Valen.
Queen Moon and Valen let out heavy gasps of relief.
Lekmet's body crumbled to dust.
"Chancellor!"Queen Moon said.
"Oh no!"Valen shouted with a frown.
"Hello, Moon and Valen."
Queen Moon and Valen glared at 'Ludo'.
"It's been a while."Toffee said with a smirk and revealed his severed middle finger.
Queen Moon gasped. "Toffee!"
"Septarian scum!"Valen growled.
Queen Moon and Valen blasted Toffee with blue magic and red lasers, but he returned fire.
Valen summoned a reflection shield to prevent Toffee's blasts from hitting him and Queen Moon.
Moon transformed into her winged, six-armed mewberty form and trades magic blasts with Toffee.
Toffee laughed as he grabbed Queen Moon with long vines and pulled her toward him.
Moon makes a sword of magic energy and clashes swords with Toffee.
Toffee shattered Moon's sword and she falls to the ground.
"Moon!"Valen called out.
As Toffee hovered over Queen Moon, Valen's eyes glowed red and he created a great explosion that brings the roof down on top of Toffee.
"Let's get out of here!"Valen shouted.
Valen picked up Hekapoo's scissors and opened up a portal.
Queen Moon throws Rhombulus into the portal while Valen gathered Lekmet's ashes and Omnitraxus' mask.
As Valen picked up Hekapoo, Toffee rises from the rubble.
Queen Moon blasted a pair of pillars to collapse the ground between them.
As the temple crumbled, Valen carried Hekapoo to the portal before going in.
"Tell Star and Serena...I'm coming for my finger."Toffee said darkly.
Queen Moon and Valen escaped through the portal and it closed.
At the roof of the Diaz Household...
"So your an illegitimate child?"Kevin asked.
"Yeah...I'm afraid so."Serena replied while looking at her ring. "My parents loved each other but they never got married. I am sort of getting used to knowing this."
"I am more surprised that your related to Adyson."Kevin chuckled.
"Yeah, though she could drive me crazy sometimes I still care about her."Serena admitted with a smile. "After all that is a role of a big sister."
Kevin placed a comforting hand on Serena's hand.
"Serena, remember this, it doesn't matter what you are, what's more important is who you choose to be."Kevin commented.
"Thanks."Serena responded. "So for this summer, it's alright if we have our first official date? I mean if you available this summer and don't have plans?"
"I would be honoured, your highness."Kevin answered with a wink.
Serena chuckled and gave Kevin a playful punch in the arm.
Kevin checked the time on his watch.
"Rats."Kevin muttered as he stood up. "I have to go. I promised my mum, I would help her fix the sink. I should-"
"It's alright, Kevin."Serena assured. "Go ahead, I'll see you later."
Kevin smiled and went down the ladder.
Inside the Diaz Household...
Jackie tossed pizza nuggets into Marco's mouth.
Marco chewed. "Again!"
"All right, Star, let's get awkward."Star whispered firmly.
"Okay, now do me."Jackie said and opened her mouth. "Ahhhhh..."
"Uh, hey, Marco?"Star greeted as she walked forward. "You got a sec?"
"Star?"Marco asked and walked away from Jackie.
"...ahhhhh..."Jackie gagged.
Star and Marco looked at each other.
"I have to tell you something."Star and Marco said in unison.
The two chuckled nervously.
"We need to talk."Star admitted and took Marco's hand. "Let's go somewhere more quiet."
Star and Marco sit on the stairs.
"Okay..."Star responded and took a deep breath. "Marco, I know things have been different."
"Definitely different."Marco agreed.
"I wanted to talk to you after Song Day, but I feel like we've been avoiding each other."Star stated.
"Oh, I've definitely been avoiding you."Marco commented.
"Yeah, me, too."Star replied. "I guess I just got scared that everything would change and that you didn't want to be friends anymore, and I miss the way things used to be, and, and..."
"Star."Marco said. "I miss the way things used to be, too."
Star gasped. "You do?"
"Yeah."Marco answered. "You're my best friend. But...but do you have a crush on me?"
"Uhhh...No."Star lied. "I don't."
"But the song..."Marco started.
"Marco, you're my friend and I just want to have an awesome summer with my friend and Rena."Star complemented.
"Friend?"Marco asked.
"Friend."Star repeated and hugged Marco.
"Well, maybe let's just forget Song Day ever happened."Marco remarked.
"What's a Song Day?"Star asked. "That sounds like a terrible day."
"You know, I think we deserve a couple of months where we just don't do anything."Marco chuckled.
"That sounds great."Star responded.
"Star, it's called summer and it's gonna be great."Marco admitted.
"Great."Star whispered.
"Star?"Serena asked as she stood up the stairs.
"Rena!"Star said as she rushed up and hugged Serena. "I am so sorry!"
"Star, it's okay."Serena assured. "I just wanted to help you, but it turns out it didn't work as it supposed to."
"You were only looking out for me."Star responded. "Thank you."
In the Girls Bedroom...
The two girls go inside their room and find an open dimensional portal.
"Huh...? Wha...?"Star asked. "How did this get here?"
"Well, I didn't summon that portal."Serena stated.
"Girls!"
"Aah! Demon!"Star shrieked.
Star and Serena turned around seeing Queen Moon beaten up.
"Mum?"Star asked. "Wha...What are you doing here?"
"I don't have time to explain, but suffice it to say, we are in danger."Queen Moon responded. "We must leave for Mewni immediately."
"What?"Serena questioned with a frown.
"Mum, no."Star replied. "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. No!"
"Yes, I'm afraid neither of you have no choice in the matter."Queen Moon stated.
"You sent us here and we didn't have a choice and now you're just telling us to leave?"Star asked.
"Girls, this is different."Queen Moon admitted.
"Different?"Serena scoffed and folded her arms. "I heard that before."
"Mum, we have learned that we get to make choices here."Star commented. "I chose to fix things with Marco."
"Girls."Queen Moon said.
"I chose to go out on a date with a guy I really liked since me and Star came here."Serena stated blushing a little.
"Girls."Queen Moon repeated.
"And apparently, there's this thing called summer where you just don't go to school."Star complemented. "So we're choosing to stay here with our friends..."
"...and we're not changing our mind!"Serena retorted. "Nothing will make us!"
"Girls!"Queen Moon shouted.
"WHAT?!"Star and Serena screamed in unison.
"...Toffee has returned."Queen Moon admitted.
Star and Serena paled in shock.
"No. No, no, no, no, no."Star argued as she picked up a picture of her, Marco and Serena to gaze at it sadly.
"I'm sorry, girls, but you both need to leave."Queen Moon commented.
Star sighed. "I need two minutes."
Star and Serena go back downstairs.
"Your going tell him?"Serena asked.
"Yes, Rena."Star said softly and shouted. "Marco!"
The students gasped hearing Star's voice.
"Loud."Pony Head muttered.
"Star?"Marco asked.
"Marco, we need to talk."Star admitted as she walked forward. "Just one last time."
"Is everything okay?"Marco asked. "You shouted pretty loud. Everybody's just staring at us."
"Yeah, I know."Star replied. "But some stuff just came up and I've only got a little time."
"What? Why?"Marco asked. "We got the entire summer."
"Marco, I don't know how to tell you this, because you're my best friend..."Star started.
"Star?"Marco asked.
"...and that makes this super weird because..."Star commented.
"What's wrong?"Marco asked.
"...because I...I...I do have a crush on you."Star admitted.
Everyone in the room gasped in utter shock which startled Serena.
"Who called it?!"Pony Head questioned. "I called it! Boom!"
StarFan13 fainted to the ground.
"I called it."Pony Head replied.
"I didn't want to admit it because I know you don't feel the same way and I thought if I just pretended the feelings weren't there, they'd go away. But they haven't."Star explained sadly. "Me and Rena have to leave Earth, probably forever and I couldn't go without telling you the truth."
"Uh...I, uh..."Marco started.
"Good-bye!"Star cried. "Good-bye, everyone!"
"And so long."Serena admitted with a sad frown. "It was really fun being here."
Star and Serena run up the stairs.
"Star! Serena!"Marco shouted following the girls upstairs. "Hey!"
Janna looked at Jackie, who appeared stunned.
Star and Serena ran inside their room and shut the door.
There was a bright flash of light inside.
"What do you mean—?"Marco said as he opened the door.
Star and Serena's bedroom reverted to the state it was in before they moved in.
"Star?"Marco asked. "Serena?"
Then the rest of Star and Serena's loft vanished.
