Somehow, despite its notorious track record, the Fourth-Year's graduation ceremony went through without a hitch – no Grimm attacks, no senior pranks, no criminal activity, no impromptu paintball wars caused by the staff…
Said staff had instead prepared a sort of graduation party for the former students after the ceremony. Numerous types of desserts adorned a long table in the middle of the cafeteria. Different streamers hung along the walls. Someone (Ozpin) had ordered a copious amount of pizza, which was descended upon by vultures students.
Professor Peter Port clapped the headmaster on the back. "Another wonderful class graduated. Your fifteenth, I believe?"
"Yes." The silver-haired man's smile was tinged with sadness. "I suppose it's about time for me to retire."
"Nonsense. You're still young, sir – plenty of time left."
"Maybe."
Glynda seemed to materialize next to the two men and handed Ozpin a plate. "Cake, sir." In her other hand was several mini chocolate éclairs on a plate.
His eyes lit up in amusement and mischievousness as if he was holding back a terrible joke. "Thank you, Glynda."
Yang, emboldened by her recent graduation, shrieked. "Professor Ozpin was informal in public!"
"It's the apocalypse!" Ruby added.
"He even smiled!"
Lie Ren sighed. "Nora, that's normal."
"So? It's still weird."
The three professors stared at the two halves of RWBY and JNPR blankly. Slowly, without taking her eyes off the graduated students, Goodwitch lifted her hand and slapped Ozpin on the back of the head.
"Why did you hit me?" There was the barest trace of a whine to the silver-haired man's tone.
"For that terrible joke earlier."
"I didn't say anything."
"No, but you thought it."
"Glynda…"
"Alexander Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkle Emmannuel Ambroise Diggs."
"You literally just made those up." He shook his head in exasperation. "I cannot believe your immaturity sometimes."
"Oh, I'm immature! You think you're all sophisticated since you're older than me now, huh?"
"Actually, I consistently forget that fact. Thank you for reminding me."
Her eyes narrowed. "Outside," she hissed, "now."
As they made their way towards the doors, Ruby hesitated. "Should we…follow them?"
"No, let them be." Port smiled jovially. "They must work out their differences themselves."
Outside the cafeteria, Ozpin and Glynda made their way across the campus.
"Your acting's improved." The blonde smiled, pulling her hair out of its bun. "But it still sucks."
He gave a noncommittal grunt. "Don't expect much more than that. Should we be worried that they'll think we murdered each other when we go missing?"
"Not our problem anymore. By the time we resurface, the case will go cold." Her pace slowed suddenly. "I'll miss everyone."
He paused. "So will I, but we'll see them again."
"They won't know us."
The silver-haired man put an arm around her shoulders. "Don't worry, Light –" He stopped as the sound of footsteps appeared and grew louder as the runner got closer. They turned.
Lie Ren slowed to a stop, paused to catch his breath, and looked up at his former professors. "You're leaving?"
Ozpin turned to the blonde. "You told him."
"I figured one person wouldn't hurt."
"Light!"
She waved off his concerns, focusing on the graduate before them. "Yes, we are. Our time is up, and as much as we wish to stay for the rest of the school year, we can't. I'm afraid this will be the last time you'll see us as we are."
"Why?" Exasperation edged Ren's voice. "And please don't give me another cryptic answer."
"How about I give you a quest instead?" She smiled mischievously. "You've already found the pattern in the missing person reports – the magic number being fifty. Now, search ancient legends and myths for Bhunivelze, Etro, and the other world. Try to get your hands on Third Crusade – that's the most accurate account. After that, find Hope Estheim."
"Who –"
"You'll figure it out." She grinned cheekily and turned away. "Bye, Ren."
The silver-haired man sighed. "Good-bye, Ren."
"Will you come back?"The men shook hands.
"Maybe." Without another word, the man known as Alexander Ozpin turned and walked away. His partner stood a ways away, waiting patiently. Once he caught up to her, the two disappeared.
Officially, they were never seen again, and police declared them dead.
But years later, after Lie Ren had became a renowned Huntsman and began to find the answers he needed, a silver-haired boy and a pink-haired girl began to make a name for themselves.
And somehow he knew that Ozpin and Goodwitch's lives hadn't ended – they had simply restarted.
