Chapter 57: Moon the Undaunted
Outside the Butterfly Castle...
An army of monsters was amassing weapons and building catapults for an invasion.
Inside the Castle...
Pamela looked quietly through the window before taking a few steps back and took out her mirror phone.
The princess wore a long, green hooded cloak on top of an off-white blouse with a brown vest, corset and dark brown pants. She also had a gold bracer on her left arm, two gold bracelets on her right wrist and a pair of golden armoured boots. She had a golden pauldron on her right shoulder and her magic ring on her left hand.
The brunette looked through her contact list and picked the contact number that had the name 'Ferelith' on it.
Pamela pressed the contact to leave a voice mail.
"Hey mum."Pamela greeted with a nervous smile. "Ummm...I know I keep calling and you must be busy, really busy. But...ummm...my idea of mewmans having peace with monsters didn't go so well and I don't know if I am going to make a difference."
The seventeen year old girl dried the tears that was coming out her eyes.
"I don't know what I am doing."Pamela admitted sadly and chuckled weakly. "I could really use some advice, mum. I guess you were right about me. Anyway I will stop talking before this gets long. Love you, bye..."
Pamela ended the call and sat on her desk before putting her head down.
Then the royal aide opened the door.
"Uh, Princess Pamela?"the royal aide asked.
"What is it?"Pamela questioned putting her head up.
"There's a...a situation in the...in the situation room."the royal aide replied.
In the Castle's situation room...
Mina Loveberry was interrogating Archduke Batwin in chains.
"I swear it wasn't my orders!"Archduke Batwin protested nervously.
Mina whips Batwin with her pigtails.
"You shut up during your confession!"Mina scowled with a glare.
"Mina?"
Moon approached a meeting room table where Mildrew, the royal guard babysitter, Pamela, Lekmet, Rhombulus, Omnitraxus Prime and Hekapoo were sitting.
Mercedes was in the room as well, but was just leaning against the wall.
"What is going on?"Moon asked.
Count Mildrew pulled a chair out for Moon, but Moon pushed the chair back and then pulled it out herself before sitting down.
"What is going on?"Moon repeated.
"According to this dingus here, one of his mooks lammed off with half an army, and they're the ones who put your mama in a wooden nightgown!"Mina explained. "You know, they, uh...T-They put her on ice. Uh, drapes down in fun town."
"Thank you, Mina."Moon replied with a frown and putting her hand a little.
"Uh, sorry about your mama."Mina apologised.
"The queen and I were about to sign the peace treaty when one of my generals went rogue."Archduke Batwin explained.
"Rogue wha-who?"Mina questioned.
"He's known as...th-the Lizard."Archduke Batwin replied.
Pamela bit her lip nervously of who Batwin was talking about.
Rhombulus right snake hand stifled a laugh.
"Sorry."the right snake hand snorted. "I mean...the Lizard."
"Dude, don't laugh."the left snake hand replied.
"Shut it, both of you!"Rhombulus whispered.
"Put this guy in the caboose and let's croak those toads!"Mina commented.
"I think we should go to war."Rhombulus suggested.
"Now is not the time!"Count Mildrew stated.
"And her magic isn't strong enough for war yet."Omnitraxus said.
"Especially against the Septarians."Hekapoo agreed. "They're indestructible."
"We need to go to war!"Mina stated.
"We need to sign the peace treaty!"Hekapoo argued.
"Yelling feels really good right now!"Rhombulus shouted.
Everyone in the room started yelling over each other while Moon looked exhausted and Pamela had a troubled look on her face..
"Maybe w-we should let Moon decide."River suggested. "She is the queen."
Moon smiled at River.
"She just lost her mother, River."Count Mildrew stated. "She needs time with her feelings."
The group started yelling at River and he sinks into his collared shirt while blushing.
"Idiots."Mercedes muttered grimly under her breath.
"I am the queen now, so I will make the decision."Moon replied with a weak smile. "My decision...is that I will make a decision at dawn."
Everyone stared quietly at Moon.
"Now if you will excuse me, I would like some alone time with Pamela."Moon said awkwardly.
Moon turned and walked out of the situation room causing Pamela to quickly follow after her.
A While Later...
Moon walked through the castle corridor with Pamela.
"Ugh."Moon groaned and covered her face. "Why did I say decision so many times?"
"It's okay, Moon."Pamela assured. "Not every princess gets confident quickly when they become queen."
"Queen Moon! Princess Pamela! I'm sorry I spoke out of place."River apologised and looked at Moon. "I-I got you something."
River gives Moon a leg of meat with the word 'SORRY' carved in it.
"Uh, what is this?"Moon asked.
"It's an apology meat."River replied. "It's how we Johansens apologise."
Moon takes River's apology meat.
"It was a relief to know someone else believed in me."Moon admitted gently. "Thank you."
River blushed and backed away shooting finger guns.
"Hey! Anytime, pal!"River chuckled nervously before turning around and walked away. "Did I just call the queen, pal?"
Pamela snickered. "Looks like someone has a crush on you."
Moon blushed and looked down shyly.
Moon and Pamela went to their bedroom.
"It feels like my world has been turned upside down."Moon sighed and looked at the leg meat. "Ugh! Oh, apology meat, what am I going to do?"
"Hey, now it's not the time to grief."Pamela reminded putting her hand on Moon's shoulder. "You need to decide if we should go to war to kill the jerks that killed your mum or sign that peace treaty."
"Pam, I feel like everything that was good was taken away from me."Moon said sadly. "Every time I close my eyes and try to sleep, I see my mum's face. That is no best for a queen. Your older than me, I think you should-"
"You have the wand, so that makes you the queen."Pamela stated. "I am just a princess that is wearing a heirloom from my part of the family."
Moon and Pamela suddenly hear muffled crying coming from the Book of Spells.
Moon opened it and finds Glossaryck crying in Comet's chapter.
"Oh, Glossy, are you okay?"Moon asked.
"No!"Glossaryck sobbed. "Your mama's gone!"
"I know."Moon replied.
"And she's never coming back!"Glossaryck cried.
"No, she isn't."Moon agreed with a hint of sadness.
"And I really liked her, too."Glossaryck added.
"We all did."Pamela commented with a hint of sadness.
"I know you're upset. So am I. But right now, we really need your help."Moon admitted. "Things are bad. I-I have to decide between signing a peace treaty or waging a war."
"Oh, yeah..."Glossaryck sniffled. "That. I don't know. Just pick one. Sure it'll work out."
"That's not helpful at all."Moon responded.
"Yeah, you're probably right. I'm in no condition to give advice."Glossaryck stated. "If you'll excuse me, I'm gonna continue crying in your mama's chapter."
Glossaryck turned the pages of the book to the skull lock on Eclipsa Butterfly's chapter.
Moon and Pamela looked at each other quietly.
In the Crystal Dimension...
Moon, Pamela and Rhombulus approached Eclipsa's crystal cage.
Moon wore now wore a battle armour that consists of a dark grey sleeveless top that appeared to be metal, a grey belt with a silver diamond in the center, a lighter grey knee-length plated skirt with diamond edges on the bottom and white wing-like shoulder pads. She also wore grey boots with white tips and a tall crown with a pink diamond encrusted in the center.
"Eclipsa's been crystallized for hundreds of years."Rhombulus explained. "I've got no idea what's gonna happen when we open this up."
"We can handle it."Moon assured.
"To think she was the only former queen that was still around after all this time."Pamela said softly.
Rhombulus unfreezes Eclipsa's upper body.
"Hoo. Okay, I'm out."Rhombulus said and runs away. "Uh, call if you need me!"
Moon pointed her wand and Pamela pointed her ring at Eclipsa in defence.
Eclipsa let out a deep gasp and then does gasping breaths.
"Ugh!"Eclipsa groaned and collapsed.
"Oh, my gosh, I killed her!"Moon panicked.
"She is just trying to let out her long time breath."Pamela corrected.
"B...4..."Eclipsa whispered.
"What?"Moon asked.
"B...4..."Eclipsa shuddered.
"Before?"Pamela asked in confusion. "Before what?"
"B...4..."Eclipsa whispered moving her eyes.
Moon and Pamela looked behind them and see a vending machine of snacks.
"Oh, wait."Moon said. "You want the candy?"
"B4!"Eclipsa begged. "B4, B4, B4!"
"O...kay?"Moon asked.
"I'll get it."Pamela assured.
Pamela puts a coin in the vending machine and pressed B4.
The machine vends a Snookers candy bar.
Pamela feeds the chocolate candy bar to Eclipsa.
Eclipsa started punching on the candy bar.
Eclipsa pulled her right arm of her frozen glove, revealing a black forearm.
She grabbed the rest of the candy bar out of Pamela's hand.
Eclipsa continued eating noisily while Moon and Pamela glanced at each other.
"Mmm-mmmm!"Eclipsa hummed. "How long have I been here?"
"Uh, like, three hundred years?"Moon responded.
"Three hundred years?!"Eclipsa coughed in shock and continued munching her candy bar. "So, you're the new queen?"
"Yes, what of it?"Moon asked.
"Well, it's just you're far too young to be queen, unless...oh no."Eclipsa said in sadness. "Unless your mother–is she...?"
Moon sniffled and nodded.
"I see."Eclipsa replied and started to tear up. "I lost my mother, too, when I was not much older than you."
"Ever since mum...um, since I became queen, everybody's been looking to me to end the war and make all these big decisions, but I'm just a kid!"Moon sobbed and dried her tears. "I can't decide the fate of Mewni! I can't even decide which boy I like!"
"I know how you feel."Eclipsa assured.
"But that's not why me and my cousin are here."Moon admitted. "I need you to teach me one of the spells from your...forbidden chapter."
"Forbidden?"Eclipsa asked in surprise. "Is that what they're calling my chapter?"
"Yeah, sorry."Moon apologised. "I didn't name it."
"Well, they call my aunt's chapter in the book of sorcery forbidden too."Pamela complemented. "So your not the only one."
"Really?"Eclipsa asked with a hint of curiosity.
"But the point is I need a spell that can destroy something that's immortal."Moon stated.
"Are you sure that's what you want?"Eclipsa questioned.
"It's my only hope."Moon responded.
"Well, the spell you seek requires a magical contract."Eclipsa explained. "I can give it to you. But once your enemy is killed, you must give me something in return."
"Okay, what do you want?"Moon asked.
"My freedom."Eclipsa replied.
"What?!"Moon and Pamela said in unison.
"Oh, I know. It's a lot to ask."Eclipsa responded with a smile. "But...I've just been here so long, all by myself. I want to buy my own chocolate. Or those little shrink-wrapped muffins at the bottom. Mmm!"
"I guess that is possible."Pamela stated rubbing the back of her head.
"But these are Rhombulus crystals."Moon commented. "I can't free you."
"A contract between two queens is stronger than any crystal."Eclipsa admitted. "Now, do you want to learn the spell?"
Eclipsa extended a hand to Moon.
Moon takes Eclipsa's hand and a magic black ribbon wraps around their hands.
Both of their cheek marks start glowing.
Pamela watched the sight in astonishment.
After a few moments, the ribbon vanished and the two queens cheek marks stopped glowing.
"Come close. Now..."Eclipsa instructed before whispering in Moon and Pamela's ears. "...and aim it directly at his heart."
Rhombulus freezes Eclipsa again.
"Hey!"Pamela snapped.
"What was that for?"Moon demanded.
"I'm just doing my job, your Majesty."Rhombulus stated simply. "Evil queen, gotta freeze it."
"She didn't seem so evil."Moon answered.
Pamela stared at Eclipsa in silence.
Back at the Butterfly Castle's situation room...
"The queen is late."the royal guard sitter said.
"Look!"River replied and pointed outside the window.
Moon rode on Lil Chauncey's back toward the monster army outside the castle.
"She's gone mad with grief!"Count Mildrew cried. "She was so young!"
"She's not dead yet, you fool!"River snapped with a glare.
"Get my warnicorn ready!"Pamela ordered while walking away. "I am going out there!"
"Princess, wait for me!"River protested.
Outside...
The monsters see Moon approaching.
Moon stopped before the monsters and laid down a blanket.
The young queen takes out eating utensils, a goblet, River's apology meat and started to eat.
"Uh, can we help you?"Rasticore questioned.
"I wish to speak to the general."Moon responded and took a bite of her meat leg.
"The general?!"A lizard monster chuckled.
The monsters started laughing.
"Silence!"
The monsters immediately fell silent, hearing their leader.
Toffee emerged from behind a wall of skulls and approached Moon.
"Hello, Princess."Toffee greeted with a bow.
"I presume you're the one they call the Lizard."Moon said.
"Yes, but you may call me...Toffee."Toffee replied.
"Toffee?"Moon repeated raising an eyebrow. "How is that any better?"
"What do you want?"Toffee asked.
"I want you and your army to leave immediately or face the consequences."Moon replied calmly.
"Your mom couldn't defeat us and neither can you!"Rasticore said smugly.
"I was hoping you'd say that."Moon admitted as she stood up and took out her wand.
"We're not afraid of your little girl magic!"A lizard monster said.
"We're invincible!"Rasticore admitted. "Just watch!"
Rasticore holds out his left arm and the first lizard monster opens his jaws around it.
"No, wait!"Moon protested. "I already know about the—!"
The lizard monster bites off Rasticore's arm off-screen.
"Ugh!"Moon scoffed in disgust.
Rasticore grows a new left arm.
The monsters cheered at the sight.
Moon closed her eyes and her wand started glowing.
"I call the darkness unto me from deepest depths of Earth and sea..."Moon chanted.
In the Crystal Dimension...
Eclipsa's cheek marks start glowing.
Outside...
"From ancient evils unawoken, break the one that can't be broken..."Moon said.
Purple storm clouds started gathering over Moon and the monsters.
"To blackest night, I pledge my soul and crush my heart to burning coal."Moon responded.
The top of Moon's magic wand become stained with black and black veins appeared along her arms.
"To summon forth a deathly power, to see my hated foe devoured!"Moon admitted and sees dark veins on her arms. "Aah!"
"Enough of this."Toffee stated with a frown.
Toffee reached out to grab Moon, but Moon fired an energy blast that severed his right hand's middle finger and knocked him over.
In the Crystal Dimension...
Eclipsa's cheek marks stop glowing.
Outside...
Toffee watched as his severed finger disappeared before he stood up.
"Have you learned nothing?"Toffee questioned with a smirk.
Toffee tried to regrow his severed finger, but the regenerating finger crumbled to black dust.
The monsters gasp at the sight.
"It's not growing back!"
The monsters run away and scatter to the woods, screaming in terror.
Toffee stood up, dusts himself off and walked away with an angry glare.
Pamela slowly approached Moon and stood closely next to her.
River arrived on the back of a warnicorn.
"Queen Moon!"River called out. "You did it!"
"Oh, my gosh, River!"Moon remarked and hugged River. "Thank you!"
The Magic High Commission, Mercedes and the other court members approached Moon.
"What...did you just do?"Rhombulus asked.
"I did my job!"Moon replied bravely. "And as your queen, I will continue to do my job of protecting this kingdom! I will hunt down the remains of the monster army and scatter them without country or leadership! Now, are there any questions?"
The members of Moon's royal court stared at Moon quietly while Pamela and River smiled in approval.
"I didn't think so."Moon said firmly.
Moon walked toward the Butterfly Castle and her court members bow to her.
Mercedes secretly smirked as Moon and Pamela walked together back to the castle.
