Somehow, I got a couple scenes mixed up, so two things have happened. First, I added a scene to the end of the previous chapter, and moved a scene to this chapter. This means you've seen most of this chapter, so I am also going to post the following chapter at the same time. We are seriously almost done with Prisoner! :D Thank you for your patience and enjoy.
Trixie Black Lestrange
Nymphadora lay in bed next to her captor and caretaker, fully awake even though it was after midnight. It had been nearly a month since the battle and Dora was missing her baby, thinking that perhaps it was time to bring him to her new home.
Remus wasn't a terrible person, she mused, but she'd known that all along. He was kind enough, and she had also experienced a full moon with him locked in the basement—she made a mental note to sound ward the place in the future.
He had something she craved, but didn't know what, and he severely annoyed her at the same time. Dora huffed a little too loudly and her companion rolled over, wrapping an arm around her and settling back into sleep.
Dora froze for a moment, but relaxed when she realised he was still asleep. She knew how to make him sleepy—she started giggling to herself, amused at her own thoughts. She would play along for now, and see how much control she could exercise over him.
In the morning, she decided, she would tell Remus that it was time to retrieve their son. Dora settled back into the man's arms and closed her eyes to sleep until morning.
Dora was awaken by something touching her hand and opened her eyes to see Remus watching her and holding her hand. "Good morning," he said to her.
She merely hummed in reply, blinking sleepily as she stretched. "I was thinking we could go get Teddy today," she said. "Besides, I want to see my family."
"Did you want me to go with you?" asked Remus.
"Are you required to?" Dora replied, raising an eyebrow at him.
"No, but I'd really like to see Teddy," Remus admitted. "And do you know how your family will react?"
"I'm not sure," murmured Dora. "I think it'll be okay."
"What if I go with you and stay if they let me in?" he said.
Dora chuckled. "Of course they will: you're with me. It should be fine." She yawned and began to get out of bed.
About an hour later, the two left his home and Dora apparated them to the ward boundaries of Lestrange Manor. "The ward's still open," Dora said in amazement. "I'm still going to know."
Remus agreed, and the two stood before the ward, waiting. "This is so weird," Dora muttered after a couple minutes. "And Mum would have normally answered the door by now." The young woman bit her lip as a feeling of fear shot through her.
A couple minutes later, the gates opened, and Dora looked up to see her mother standing there, a solemn but welcoming look on her face. "Mum," Dora breathed.
"Your brother wishes to see you," Andromeda said, closing the gates and turning to lead her guests into the house. "And Athena is on her way here as well."
"Oh," was all Dora could think to say as she followed her mother toward the sitting room. When she entered the room, she was overjoyed to see Laverne sitting up, his wife at his side. "You're looking so much better," she said happily.
"Yes," Laverne smiled. "I'm able to move around now—still a bit unstable, of course, but what Lestrange isn't?"
Nymphadora laughed, then glanced at Lauren, who was holding baby Teddy. "May I…?" she murmured, and her sister-in-law handed the child over.
Remus was suddenly right beside her, watching her and the baby. "Hi, Teddy," Dora said softly. "This is your Dad…."
The baby recognised his mother with a shriek of excitement, his small fists gripping onto the front of his mother's dress. Remus seemed speechless, for which Dora was grateful.
"He's been very unhappy," Lauren told her. "He just won't sleep at night."
"Being difficult, Teddy Bear?" Dora smiled, kissing her son's head.
"I assume you're taking Teddy with you today?" Laverne questioned.
Dora nodded, taking a seat in obedience to her mother. "Athena's here," Laverne said, and a few moments later, Dora's two sisters entered the room together.
Arielle rushed over to hug her sister. "Dora, I'm so glad to see you! Is he behaving for you?"
"Mostly," Dora laughed, then looked up at Athena, who had not approached and was standing in the middle of the room. "Athena?"
The blue-eyed woman looked at her older sister and stated, "I can't stay. Dora—my husband has asked that I not openly associate with you in your current situation."
"Because he's a two-faced bastard," Arielle said sweetly. "He doesn't realise that it's permanent."
"We're hoping he'll come around," Laverne said to Dora, trying to lessen the blow somewhat. "He was an informant for the Order, and I saw him at a couple of their meetings."
"Wait—what?" Dora nearly yelled in shock.
""Yeah," Laverne said wryly. "You wonder why there was resistance at Azkaban and you almost died? Yeah, that was my fault. Alvin never dared to interfere with such major mission—and that was the last time I did. Nearly ruined everything."
"The news just came out about his involvement with the Order," Athena sighed, taking a couple steps forward. "He didn't want anyone to know: he never even told me what he was doing."
Lauren agreed with this. "Laverne hadn't told me what he was up to, either," she said.
Arielle rolled her eyes. "Hopefully, Alvin will soon realise that it isn't bad to be good, and it will all turn out okay."
Athena sighed. "Good luck," she said. "I'll probably see you at some family gatherings until then."
"Of course," Dora answered coolly. "Remind him that at least I never wavered in my loyalties, will you?"
"I will do no such thing," Athena replied. "I have a family to keep together, Dora. And if you think I don't defend you as much as I can, you are wrong." The young woman turned and left the room, Andromeda following her.
"Well," said Dora in a huff. "Well, well. You know, Laverne, if we had just let him be captured in that one raid, everything would have been different."
"The important thing is that we've all survived," Lauren said simply.
"I will hurt him," Dora said sweetly, cooing at Teddy. "Oh, yes, I will."
"Now, now, Dora," came Andromeda's voice, "don't go killing anyone else's husband."
"Mum," Dora breathed.
Andromeda eyed her daughter for a moment. "Do you not care that you killed my husband?"
Nymphadora was flustered. "I—I don't know. I didn't think you liked him anyway."
"We thought the same about him—" Andromeda shot a glare at Remus "—but you still spared him!"
"Rabastan hadn't been here in years," Dora protested. "None of us wanted him here!" She paused for a moment. "...did you actually care about him?" Nymphadora breathed.
"Nothing good comes without suffering," Andromeda replied.
"I'm sad that he's dead, but I'm not sure if I care," Andromeda replied, making her oldest daughter nod slowly.
"I'm sorry, Mum," Dora whispered.
"You're not." Andromeda crossed her arms. "But I don't expect you to be."
Arielle looked at her mother and sister, then said, "Well, now that we're all sad but don't care, Dora—I'd like you to attend my birthday party next month."
Nymphadora seemed disturbed, but nodded to Arielle. "You'll be sixteen ," she said. "Merlin. What are you going to do after school?"
Arielle grinned. "We'll see. And guess what?"
"What?" Dora asked with a longsuffering sigh.
"Astrid starts school this year!" cheered Arielle.
"Oh," said Dora. "Well, I guess the House of Black is going back to Hogwarts."
Remus laughed, and Teddy looked up with a giggle, making everyone stop and look at the baby. The father glanced at Dora, who rolled her eyes and handed the baby to him.
Teddy looked at the man with a curious frown, then grinned and put one of his fists up to his mouth. He cooed, and Remus couldn't help smiling at his little boy. "Hey," he said softly. "I love you." Teddy cooed again, his hair shooting turquoise.
Remus nearly dropped the child. "What the—?"
Arielle cackled with laughter. "I didn't tell him!"
Laughing heartily, Dora said, "He's a full-powered Metamorphagus, just like me and Arielle. He always has blue hair when he's happy."
"He's so adorable," Remus murmured in a daze as he watched his son coo and wriggle in his arms.
"He's perfect, we know," said Dora with a smirk, Summoning Teddy's things. "Shall we take him home and get him settled in?"
Remus nodded silently and got to his feet, following Dora from the room. They left the manor and Dora disapparated with them. "Dora," he breathed, and she pulled him into the house. "He is perfect."
"He's going to be a heartbreaker when he grows up," Dora said proudly. "Come stay with me while I set up his room."
Remus obeyed, and when things were organised in the new nursery, they took Teddy into their room and curled up together in their bed. "I don't deserve him," Remus sighed, shaking his head.
"I said that too, when he was first born," Dora admitted. "But I love him, and I'm so glad he's mine."
"And mine," Remus said in wonder. "It's amazing."
"Was it worth it?" Dora asked him with a grin.
"Yeah," the man answered thoughtfully. I'd do it again, too."
Dora groaned. "Oh, no, we don't. Mum may have had two on purpose and two on accident, but I'm fine with the one accident."
Remus chuckled. "He's beautiful, Nymphadora. You did well." Dora leaned her head against his and the two settled in to spend a few quiet hours with their son.
"Come on, Teddy," Remus called to his young son. "Let's go see your grandmum."
Two-year-old Teddy Lupin grinned up at his father from the floor of his room. "Come on," Remus laughed, walking forward.
Teddy looked around in concern. "Mum?"
"She'll join us in a few minutes," the man replied, taking the child into his arms. He walked to the front door, teasing and playing with Teddy until Dora appeared.
"Ugh," she said, making a face as she approached her son and fiance. "I forgot what being pregnant was like."
Remus leaned over and kissed her cheek. "Think you'll be able to travel?" he asked.
"After today, I'm not going out for a long time," Dora said. "I threw up the damn potion that was supposed to keep me from getting sick!"
"It's worse this time?" Remus asked.
"Definitely," Dora sighed. "Last time I thought it was just a flu and now I feel like all my innards are coming out."
"Well, surely your mother will know what else you can try that might help," suggested Remus.
Dora gave him a doubtful look and walked to the door. "Give me a couple minutes before you follow," she said, then left the house and disapparated.
Remus showed up with Teddy a couple minutes later, finding Dora outside, Athena at her side. "Dora?" he asked in concern, but she didn't look up.
"She's sick," Athena said shortly. "Go inside: I'll take care of her."
Teddy looked at his mother. "Mumma!"
Athena gave the toddler a kind smile. "Mum will be there in a minute," she said, waving Remus toward the open door. "Go on, Remus."
Remus obeyed, walking into the house and being greeted by Arielle. "Well," said the girl, "the men and children are here, but what's happened to the women?"
"Dora and Athena are outside," Remus answered. "Dora isn't feeling the best right now."
"Mmm, I see," Arielle said, eyeing him suspiciously. "Everyone else is in the sitting room, so let's join them."
Nearly fifteen minutes later, Nymphadora and Athena entered the sitting room, Dora grinning weakly at the rest of her family. "Hi," she sighed. "I'm pregnant."
Laverne and Andromeda were the only two that reacted right away, the young man smirking at her. "Ooh!" Andromeda said in excitement, looking up from her current newest grandchild, Athena and Alvin's baby girl Meira. "Teddy's getting a brother or sister too! Congratulations!"
"Wow, Mother," Laverne grinned. "Your grandchildren are starting to outnumber your children."
"So who will be the first to have three children?" Lauren laughed, glancing at her son and only child.
"I'm done for a couple years—I hope," Athena said dramatically. "Having two children instead of one is a big change—Mum, I don't know how you raised four little brats."
"It helps when the middle two are mostly angelic," Andromeda smiled.
"Were we?" Laverne said in astonishment.
Nymphadora giggled at this, saying, "You never caused Mum problems, and Athena didn't make Mum worry until she noticed boys."
"Auntie Dora?" It was Alexander Nott, who was nearly three years old.
"Yes, Alex?" she asked kindly, and the boy indicated Teddy. "Oh, you want to play?"
"He's just curious," Alvin said. "Teddy morphed."
"Oh," said Dora and Remus together.
Everyone laughed, and Lauren said, "You're so used to it you don't even notice, do you?"
"It doesn't matter what he looks like," Dora shrugged. "He's still Teddy."
Laverne looked down at his son when the boy shouted to get his attention. "Well, Desmond," he said. "What's going on?"
Nymphadora smiled at her other nephew. "May I hold him?" Laverne nodded and she walked forward, taking the one-year-old Lestrange heir into her arms. "I love that you've both named a child after your grandparents," she said to her brother and Athena. "Desmond and Meira. Beautiful."
Arielle smirked. "If you have a girl, Dora, you should name her after Mum."
"Oh, please don't!"
Everyone turned to Andromeda, who looked disturbed. "I don't have the best history," she said. "Don't give that to a child."
"Oops," Laverne said. "Do you think giving my son Rodolphus as a middle name is much better?"
"Do you know if it's a boy or girl?" Arielle asked, laughing at Laverne's response.
"No," Dora replied with a shrug, glancing at Remus. "I don't know if we're finding out…?"
"I don't mind," Remus answered.
Athena raised an eyebrow. "Do you want to know?"
"Yeah!" Arielle said, and Teddy copied her, clapping his hands and laughing. Dora grinned and nodded.
Athena got to her feet and crossed the room, drawing her wand and approaching Dora. "Let's see," she grinned. "Does Teddy get a brother or a sister?" She performed the spell, and Dora gasped.
"It's another boy!" she cried, and Athena laughed as her sister grabbed her in a hug.
Remus was grinning from ear to ear and said, "You hear that, Teddy? You're getting a little brother!"
Teddy did not seem bothered by this, but wriggled off the couch and toddled after Alex, who had gone back to his father.
"Was this an accident?" Arielle asked, immediately being scolded by several people.
"No," Dora shrugged. "I planned it. I wouldn't want just one child after growing up with three siblings of my own."
Remus gave her a meaningful look, and Dora blushed. "Remus and I are getting married," she announced.
There was a moment of heavy silence, and then Andromeda asked, "You agreed to this, Dora?"
Nymphadora nodded, still blushing as the rest of her family stared at her. "I said yes," Dora said simply. "We'll have a tiny wedding in a couple months."
Alvin was frowning, as were Laverne and Athena. Finally, Arielle said, "If it makes you happy, then go ahead. Honestly, you're already living together; now you'll just have a contract."
"Yeah," Dora murmured. "You know, if there's one reason purebloods shouldn't outbreed, it's my life story. People shouldn't have to be torn between their first family and their next family." She looked around at the others and sighed. "I thought we were openminded, but it turned out to be only in theory, didn't it?"
"The only concern I have is for your happiness," Laverne said firmly, and everyone turned to him. "I only want to be certain that you've chosen to stay because you want to, even though you have had to be there with him."
"I don't have stay anymore," Dora shrugged. "As soon as two years hits, I'm not required to be watched."
"Do you love him?" Laverne asked intently.
"I—yes," Dora whispered. "I never expected it, but I'm happy with him, and...he loves me."
Laverne studied Dora for a few minutes, then said, "All right. I would be honoured to attend your wedding if that is possible."
"Of course," Dora murmured, then bit her lip slightly. "Would you give me away at the wedding?"
"Yes," he replied, his gaze never wavering.
"All right," nodded Dora, leaning down and giving Desmond back to him. She glanced at Remus, seeing that he was passively listening, but allowing everything.
Nymphadora walked over to her fiance and sat down right next to him, clasping his hand in hers. He squeezed her hand reassuringly, and she took a deep breath to calm herself. It had gone better than she'd thought it would, and she hoped her family would warm up to the idea in time.
