Chapter 47
Kyoya woke up to the sound of Hanako's voice.
"...Understand completely. Are they going to bring him back anytime soon?"
"I think he's on his way right now," Kyoya opened his eyes to see Dr. Dentatsu standing next to Hanako's bed, with Hanako awake, but still with her tired face.
"Did we wake you Mr. Otori?" the doctor asked.
"No it's fine," Kyoya assured her, rubbing his face.
"She was telling me how she's keeping me here for an extra night," Hanako mentioned.
"Oh yes, she told me too a short while ago," Kyoya said, "which I think will be a good thing for you and Kouki."
"Oh speak of who!" Hanako said with delight as a nurse rolled in Kouki's baby bed.
"Here we go," the nurse said, handing Kouki to Hanako, "want to try feeding him?"
"Yeah," Hanako said as she adjusted her hospital gown to help feed her baby. She could feel Kouki start to grip her and feel him eating. "Hmm, good job son."
Kyoya also watched as Hanako feed Kouki. She already seemed to be a natural with it.
"How's his heartrate and breathing?" he asked.
"All is well, but we are still keeping tabs on it just in case," Dr. Dentatsu assured him.
"Is that normal?" Hanako asked.
"Yes, but in your case it's a little more important mostly because during his birth your son's heartrate was droping at less than acceptable rate," Dr. Dentatsu explained.
"Is that why you were doing all those things during my labor?" Hanako asked a little scared.
"Yes but we couldn't tell you since it could have affected his heartrate more. We wanted to keep your labor as less stressful as possible."
"Oh," Hanako said. She looked at Kyoya and managed to take his hand. Kyoya gave hers a little kiss.
"Thank you for looking out for our son," she said.
"Of course," Kyoya said softly.
"I'll come back a little bit later, but I think you and Kouki are in the clear for now," Dr. Dentatsu assured the family. She and the nurse quickly hurried out.
"I am glad he was born safely. I know I would have panicked if I knew something was wrong with him," Hanako said stroking Kouki's short black hair.
"Yes, though I didn't quite like the idea leaving you in the dark," Kyoya said.
"It's okay, I understand," Hanako insisted, "whatever it takes to make sure he was born safe."
"Hi," a soft voice suddenly said.
"Tomomi, hi," Hanako greeted, "where's the rest of your family?"
"My parents decided it might be too much for the whole family to come see you so soon after giving birth. So they just had me come and instead said they'll invite you all over for dinner sometime soon so they can meet him." Tomomi explained nodding at the baby, "do you finally have a name?"
"Kouki," Hanako said.
"That's cute," Tomomi said as she moved closer to see the baby better. "Has any of the other friends been by to see him?"
"Oh yes, practically everyone," said Hanako.
"Including Hunny?" Tomomi asked a little timidly.
"Why yes," said Kyoya, "is that problem?"
"Well not really, it's just, well, I haven't been able to contact him all day. He was even my first phone call but he didn't answer," Tomomi admitted, "do you think he's okay?"
"Hmm, who knows," Kyoya said, "maybe he's just a little busy."
"Maybe," Tomomi said, rubbing her arm.
"Oh, hey Tomomi," Namiko said as she, and the other three of her group all walked in, along with Limber.
"Oh, hi, happy New Years," Tomomi said kindly.
"Happy New Year!" Tamaki said back, "did you already make your shrine visit?"
"Yeah, with my family," Tomomi said, "how was your guys' night all together?"
"Great, good food, fun games, a perfect New Years evening!" Haruhi said.
"Nice," Tomomi said.
"In fact," Haruhi started to recall.
"What?" Haruka asked.
"Oh, nothing," Haruhi insisted, "we just came by to say good bye for now and wish you guys good luck."
"Thank you, for everything," Kyoya praised his friends.
"Of course," Tamaki said, "take care little Kouki."
"I'll head out with you guys," Tomomi said as she followed after the rest of the group.
"You want a ride home?" Namiko offered.
"Sure that'd be great," said Tomomi.
"Actually, Namiko, would you be up to going back to Kyoya and Hanako's place and try cleaning up for them before they come home tomorrow?"
"Hmm, sure," Namiko agreed.
"I can come and help with that," Tomomi offered
"Just you ladies?" Ritsu asked.
"We live closer and we've all been through a lot since last night. You guys should go home and get some rest at least," Haruhi insisted. She walked over to Tamaki and kissed him.
"Well if you're sure," Tamako said bashful.
"I can accompany you as well," said Limber.
"No, it's fine, we'll be okay," Namiko assured her bodyguard, "why don't you go track down Mori-Senpai and spend some time with him."
Limber looked a little torn but eventually nodded.
"Just call me if and when you need assistance," she mentioned, "and I'll let Master Haninozuka know where you're off to Miss Tomomi."
"Sure thanks,' Tomomi muttered as she walked with Haruhi and Namiko.
The five friends all looked confused by Tomomi's less than thrilled attitude about Hunny.
"Do you think everything's going okay with Hunny-Senpai and Tomomi?" Hanako asked as she managed to pull Kouki away and slowly tried to burp him.
"Hmm, who knows," Kyoya said bluntly.
"I hope things don't go sour between them," said Hanako, "I'd hate to see them maybe break up or something. I wouldn't want Tomomi's heart broken. Not after everything's she done."
"Yes," Kyoya agreed. It would be a disappointment to see Tomomi suffer even with her attempts to redeam herself. Plus if Hunny were to break up with her, what would his plans be in regards to Hanako?
"May I see him?" he asked trying to change the subject a little for the moment.
"Of course you can," Hanako said as she finished burping Kouki. "You want to see Dada?"
"Dada?" Kyoya said a little smug, "they say usually dada is the first word a baby says since it's easier to say than momma."
"That sounds like a challenge to me!" Hanako giggled. Then she sighed, "were you planning on going home later? For rest?"
"I was pondering it," Kyoya admitted.
"I think you should. God knows we're going to be sleepless for a while!" Hanako insisted.
"You two going to be okay by yourself alone all night?" Kyoya asked.
"Of course we will," Hanako assured him, "I want to know you'll have yourself a decent night sleep in your own bed."
"Very well, maybe after dinner I'll try," Kyoya decided.
"Good," Hanako said, "that's what we both want, right Kouki? We want dada to get some sleep." Hanako suddenly looked sad.
"Something bothering you now?" Kyoya asked.
"He wouldn't even come to see his own grandson," he heard Hanako muttered.
"Is this about your father?" Kyoya asked.
"He hasn't even come to see the baby? Why? Is that awful for him?" Hanako asked.
"My dear, maybe he's ashamed and doesn't feel right coming to see Kouki," Kyoya tried to comfort her.
"Sure that's it," Hanako said sarcastically.
"Maybe now we can try some time later," Kyoya suggested.
"Maybe," Hanako slightly agreed.
True to his promise, Kyoya stayed until after he and Hanako had dinner. Then after a loving kiss good bye to Hanako and one last check on Kouki, he made his way home in his car. Traffic was a little rough with all the holiday travellers and snowy weather, but somehow Kyoya made it back to his apartment.
He slowly managed to drag himself up the stairs and into his apartment. As he turned on the lights, he was surprised to see it was completely clean up from the party from the night before.
"Huh, how did this happen?" he asked himself as he looked around and saw a note on the counter.
It read, 'Kyoya, wasn't sure if you were coming home and would be hungry so I left a fried rice dish in the fridge. Congratulations again on the birth of Kouki. Sincerely Haruhi, (and Namiko and Tomomi)'
'That makes sense,' Kyoya thought. He opened the fridge and saw the dish Haruhi promised. 'Maybe I can leave it for breakfast tomorrow.'
Instead Kyoya pulled out his futon and laid down.
'What a day, what a day,' Kyoya thought to himself as he laid alone, looking at the ceiling. He was a little restless that he pulled out his phone and looked through some of the pictures he had managed to get of his new son.
'Nothing will ever be the same now that he's here. I know he's worth it, I just hope I'm fully ready for it."
Hanako was also feeling restless as she laid in her hospital room alone.
'I hope Kouki is doing alright,' she thought. 'And I hope Kyoya's able to get sleep. I don't want him drained with everything going on. But I'm sure even if he doesn't, he's still going to be a better father than dear old Dad!' Hanako gripped her blanket mad.
'Why Dad? Why couldn't you even brother coming to see your own grandson! Hell Katashi even managed to come! Are you that much of a coward that you couldn't even face a baby?!' It was then Hanako made up her mind.
"I'm giving him a month and if he does not make even one single solitary attempt to come see Kouki or reach out to us for Kouki's sake, he'll never be a part of my son's life! Kouki's has his Grandfather Otori anyway, he'll be fine!'
"Whaa!" Kouki screamed as Kyoya did his best to change him for the trip home.
"Calm down Kouki, calm. I know it's not fun, but I'm sure you'd rather be warm than cold," Kyoya tried to assure his son as he kept trying to dress him.
"Whaa!" Kouki exclaimed.
"I know, I know," Kyoya said as he gripped his son's little hand. He heard Hanako give off a sigh as she walked out of the bathroom. Kyoya glanced at her coming out all changed to go home herself.
She gave Kyoya a happy smile, "everything going okay out here?"
"As much as could be expected, given the circumstances," Kyoya said as he kept trying to get Kouki dressed.
"Oh my poor baby," Hanako said as she came to the other side of the bed and looking at Kouki as he kept letting his dad know how much he hated being dressed.
"Oh Kouki can't you cooperate with daddy just a little?" she asked rubbing his cheeks.
"Only two days old and already rebelling against his father?" Kyoya asked with a smirk as he managed to finish dressing the baby by zipping up the baby's coat. He then slowly lifted Kouki up in his arms. "There we go. There we go."
Hanako meanwhile started packing up a few more of her bags. "I actually feel a little relieved to be going home. For some reason it sounds nice."
"Yes, it'll be nice to finally be all together," Kyoya said as he started to put Kouki into his baby seat.
"WHAA!" Kouki cried even louder.
"I know Kouki, I...,"
"Whaa!"
"I know," Kyoya finished. Although Kouki's cries were a little annoying, he couldn't help but smile at Kouki.
Hanako knelt down next to Kyoya gazing at her son too.
"Think he'll be okay once we get going?" she asked.
"Yes, this is just all a new experience for him so it's natural he wouldn't like it too much," said Kyoya. "You ready to go?"
"Yeah, let's get out of here," Hanako replied, giving Kyoya a quick kiss. She grabbed her bags and waited for Kyoya with Kouki's baby carrier.
"Do you want a wheelchair to help take you out?" " Kyoya asked.
"No, I want to stretch my legs," Hanako insisted as they headed out. As they did, they saw the two other families that had also given birth the same night leaving. Both looked just as happy as the two of them felt.
"Looks like we were the only ones to have a boy that night," Hanako whispered, noticing that the other two babies were clearly dressed in more girly attire.
"Hmm, you hear that Kouki? You're already a ladies man," Kyoya joked.
Hanko could feel some tiredness creeping up on her as the two drove home. Even though she kept trying to fight it.
"When we get home, You're more than welcome to take a nap," Kyoya said noticing her getting drowsy.
"What about you?" Hanako asked with a yawn.
"I'll be okay, when I spent the night at home last night, I actually got a good night's sleep," Kyoya assured her.
"Hmm," Hanako agreed with a smile.
"And besides, Haruhi, Namiko and Tomomi were over yesterday to help clean and prepare the apartment for you're return," Kyoya mentioned.
Hanako smiled even more.
"I am lucky to have friends like them!" she said.
When they finally arrived at their building, they were a little surprised to see some movers going up and down the stairs with different boxes and furniture.
"I didn't know we were getting new neighbors," Hanako mentioned.
"Yes, neither did I," Kyoya said, "oh well. Hopefully they won't be a problem."
As they walked into their apartment, Hanako saw her Mother as well as Kyoya's parents.
"Oh, hi guys." Hanako said, as she and Kyoya set down their items.
"Sorry, we just wanted to help welcome you home!" Mrs. Kokan said with delight.
"Your mother and I had to arm wrestle to see who had the privilege of holding Kouki first," Mrs. Ohtori joked.
"And who won?" Kyoya asked as he un-hitch Kouki from his seat.
"I did," his father said motioning for the baby. Kyoya didn't argue as he walked the babay over and let his father take him.
Mr. Otori gently stroked Kouki's chin, "mmm, good boy."
Suddenly a snap sound echoed through the apartment.
"Did you just take my picture my dear?" Mr. Otori asked not looking up from his grandson.
"Sorry it was just too sweet," ssid his wife, as she looked at the picture. Mrs. Kokan and Hanako both looked over her shoulder at it as well.
"Oh that is nice!" Mrs. Kokan said.
"I'm thinking this will make a great picture for our New Year greetings at our party," said Mrs. Otori.
"If you say so dear," said Mr. Otori. He looked over towards Mrs. Kokan who was smiling but looked sad.
"I hope your husband had a nice New Years Madam," he mentioned as casually as he could.
"Yeah, he had a fairly nice time," Mrs. Kokan replied softly.
"I hope he wasn't sick or hungover or anything!" Hanako muttered.
"Uh, he did have a little too much sake I guess," said her mother.
Hanako grunted.
The Otori family all exchange nervous looks.
"Well, we all do crazy things on New Year's," Mrs. Otori finally said.
Their thoughts werr interrupted by a loud bang on one of their walls. It was followed by an even louder, "Alright! 20 points!"
"That doesn't count!" shouted a different loud voice.
"Yes it does!"
"No it doesn't!"
"I don't recall your neighbors being so loud before," said Mr. Otori.
"They're new," Kyoya told him.
"They sound charming," his father said sarcastically.
"I hope they don't cause too much problems for you," said Mrs. Otori.
"It's all a part of the experience," Mrs. Kokan, "at one point or another there's that one neighbor you really have a hard time dealing with."
Mr. Otori looked at his son, "don't let them get the better of you, for you and your family's sake," he whispered.
Kyoya nodded.
Hanako groaned in pain as she sat up, biting her lip.
"Are you alright?" Kyoya asked, walking towards her.
Nodding, "Yeah, I need to feel Kouki, they are swollen and he hasn't eaten in about three hours."
Kyoya gently lifted Kouki from bed before handing him to Hanako, "Here you go."
"Hey sleepy boy. Come on sweet pea, Momma knows you need to eat." Hanako smiled, gently rocking him awake. Smiling, Hanako brought Kouki to her breast where he immediately began feeding.
Kyoya looked over Hanako's shoulder, watching his son feed, gently rubbing one hand on her shoulder, the other smoothing Kouki's hair as he ate. "I know we can't, but I can't help but be sad."
"Sad?" Hanako questioned, looking at Kyoya with her brows furrowed.
"Our Kouki will have more... time with your body in ways I can't... for a while anyways." He winked.
Laughing, Hanako rolled her eyes, "It won't be that long until we are able. Just got to wait for the approval from the doctor."
Out of nowhere, there was a loud explosion noise, followed by extremely loud music.
Kouki shook in fear, his eyes wide as Hanako jumped, nearly spilling some of the milk Kouki was drinking.
"What's that noise?" she asked, right as Kouki cried out loud, pulling his face away.
"Must be our new neighbors," Kyoya said a little annoyed as he tried to clean up.
"Do they have to be so loud?" Hanako asked as she tried calming Kouki down.
"I'll talk to them," Kyoya insisted as he handed Kouki to Hanako and walked out. He knocked a few times before it was finally opened.
"Yo what's up Bro?" the occupant asked. He had blue dyed hair, some rock band t-shirt and big colored lenses sunglasses.
"Hello," Kyoya started to say.
"Hey what's the buzz?" another young man, similar in appearance to the other man except with red dyed hair.
Kyoya cleared his throat, "as I was saying, hello, I'm...,"
"This going to take long bro? It's cold out here," said the blue hair boy.
"No," Kyoya tried to assure him, "I was just saying...,"
"Dude, Sexy Teenage Bikini warriors is on," the red haired boy suddenly said walking back into the apartment.
"Oh yeah," the blue hair boy said about to shut the door. Kyoya however stopped him.
"I was saying!" Kyoya snapped, "I live next door to you and we have a newborn baby! Please keep your music down!"
"Whatever," the blue hair boy said as he shut the door. Kyoya glared back at the door before walking back to his own home.
"Did you talk to them?" Hanako asked, in the middle of feeding Kouki.
"Yes, but I'm not sure if I got through to them," Kyoya admitted. Hanako watched as Kyoya walked to his laptop and started working. It made her scared how mad he was getting.
Hanako had just put Kouki down in his bed when the music started again.
"Kyoya," she said softly looking at Kouki with concern. The baby was already starting to stir.
"Yes," Kyoya said without hesitation and walked back out to the next apartment. He knocked loudly at the door.
"Dude, what?!" the blue hair boy asked annoyed when he answered. The loud music and tv could be easily heard behind him.
"I was just here and I do believe I asked you to please be quiet with your music as it is keeping my son awake!" Kyoya said sternly, doing his best to remain calm and cool.
"Sorry," the blue hair boy said, not sounding like he was taking Kyoya seriously. He shut the door in Kyoya's face again. Kyoya however could still hear music from outside. He walked back to his own apartment where he saw Hanako struggling to put Kouki back to sleep.
"Is it any better?" he asked.
"Not by much," Hanako replied. She still managed to get Kouki down in his basket for sleep though.
The rest of the day Hanako and Kyoya could hear the noise from next door increases slightly for a moment or two before going back down. Luckily it never seemed to get loud enough to wake Kouki.
"I hope those new guys aren't going to be too big of a problem from here on out," Hanako said later that night as she served herself and Kyoya dinner.
"Yes, they are quite annoying," Kyoya said looking at Kouki sleeping happily.
"Do you want to watch some TV?" Hanako asked holding up the remote.
"Sure," Kyoya agreed. Hanako turned it on and soon found a program the two could enjoy together.
The two were able to eat their meal and enjoy their show for a bit when suddenly they started to hear loud cheering and yells outside their apartment.
"What the hell?" Hanako asked, right as the music started up again even louder than before. The two could almost not hear Kouki's cries of distraught over the noise.
"Oh for the love of!" Hanako said as she grabbed her baby up. Kyoya didn't wait for her to say anything. He stormed out the door without a word and partially punched the door down as he knocked.
"Yo, you ready to party or what...," the blue hair boy started to say only to get knocked over by a gust of black wind. He looked up and saw Kyoya standing in front of him with a black aurora all around him and his eyes obscured by glint in his glasses.
"Whoa, whoa, dude, don't hurt me!" the boy pleaded.
"Huh?"
Kyoya looked up and realized that there were several more boys in the apartment as well. All similar in appearance to the other two occupants with the exception of their hair color.
They all started to cower at the sight of Kyoya.
"I have asked you twice now to keep your noise down so as to not wake my son!" Kyoya said kneeling down next to blue hair boy. "And yet you continue to do the exact opposite! And my poor son is constantly being woken! His mother doesn't appreciate that! What exactly do I have to do get my point across and get you to keep your volume down!"
"D-Don't worry dude! W-We'll keep down, I promise!" the boy promised, "right guys?"
"Yeah," said all his friends.
"Thank you," Kyoya said a little smug as he walked back to his own home. He was feeling a little good about himself, until he realized Hanako was also cowering in slight fear at his presence.
"I didn't realized you could ever get that angry," she said timidly.
"Only when I'm provoked hard enough," Kyoya tried to assure her as he did his best to calm down.
"Uh-huh," Hanako said as she put Kouki back down, "I hope Kouki doesn't ever get you that mad."
"Oh I'm sure that he could never, he's just a baby after all," said Kyoya.
"Right," Hanako said not sounding convinced.
That night Kyoya couldn't help but noticed Hanako wasn't cuddling up close to him as she usually did. Turning on his side, he wrapped his arms around her, pretending to be asleep as he kissed her shoulder.
Hanako looked at Kouki in his crib, seeing him sleeping peacefully. Feeling Kyoya's hold on her tighten lovingly around her, she sighed. Finally relaxing, she moved into his hold, finally going to sleep.
