The Untold Story of Serena Butterfly

Chapter 72: Celena's Secret

In Butterfly Castle...

Louis, Andromeda and Harriet were sleeping in Pamela's old room that was no decorated with their own stuff.

Suddenly a howling wind blew throughout the hallways of the castle causing the lights to go out.

Then a strange but soft weeping sound was heard causing the three siblings to wake up from their beds.

"Do you guys hear that?"Andromeda asked.

"A ghost of a Mewni queen seems to be in grief."Louis commented.

"Hopefully it's not Solaria."Harriet said while covering herself with her blanket. "She's scary and violent."

The Next Morning...

Louis, Andromeda and Harriet sat down eating breakfast with Moon, Dimitri and Etheria.

Moon was now an adult and has grown quite serious since the day she became queen.

"So Aunt Moon have you been hearing any weird noises recently at night?"Andromeda asked.

"Yes, Andromeda."Queen Moon answered. "But it is just the wind."

"It sounded more like a weeping noise of a ghost to us."Harriet commented.

"We believe it could be one of your ancestors."Louis admitted.

"A spirit of a queen only comes on a day that is connected to them."Queen Moon said simply. "Today is none of the queens birthday."

"But what if it is actually a spirit of a queen?"Andromeda suggested.

"Each queen has a respective feast day, whether it be their birth day or or their death, Andromeda."Dimitri admitted. "On their respective feast day, the spirit of a queen will manifest and rise from their resting place that is the graveyard of queens. There, one day will be given for her to be celebrated by the kingdom, with permission from the current queen. Though not all queens are celebrated. The less popular queens fade from obscurity, while the more well-known are celebrated and glorified yearly."

"And those who are forgotten would want to make sure that people will say their name once again, whatever it takes."Etheria stated. "A queen's cause of the death is visible on their so-called spirit, from the most peaceful to the most violent."

Louis, Andromeda and Harriet looked at each other.

It seemed they were on their own in this situation.

Afterwards...

Louis, Andromeda and Harriet went around the castle to ask the servants if they heard any ghost noises at night, but none of them seem to have heard anything except Juno.

"I have heard her myself."Juno admitted. "Before yesterday, I was busy working on one of my invention late at night. But then I heard what it seemed to be gentle singing coming from the tapestry room."

"What was the ghost singing about?"Andromeda asked.

"About a pumpkin and then something about using an apple slice to find true love."Juno replied running the back of her head.

"Let's see...loves a pumpkin and sings softly."Andromeda said and gasped. "Celena the Shy!"

"The Mewni queen who was skilled at potion making and fortune telling but was extremely shy."Louis responded in disbelief. "That Celena?"

"I've read her chapter but there weren't many secrets as I thought there would be."Harriet said in disappointment.

"Why would Celena's spirit suddenly start haunting here?"Andromeda asked.

"No idea, but you three can try and figure out a way to let her poor spirit find peace."Juno suggested. "I am too busy fixing costumers items."

"Maybe we can do something she loved to do to remind her who she is."Harriet remarked. "That could lead her spirit to rest."

"Let's try doing that then."Louis complemented.

Meanwhile at Avalon Castle...

Pamela quickly closed the door of her room when she came inside and locked the entrance with her magic when she came into her room.

"She won't find me here."Pamela stated hopefully.

Suddenly a red purple flame burst in front of Pamela.

"I spoke too soon."Pamela commented bitterly.

Then the flame cleared away, revealing Ferelith.

Ferelith Darkwood was a demon woman with pale skin, long bronze creamy blonde hair and silver purple eyes. She had dark red horns sticking out of her head and wore a velvet dress with a fluffy black coat.

"Hi mum."Pamela greeted with a nervous smile.

"Pamela, why didn't you tell me you gotten married?"Ferelith questioned grabbing Pamela's face. "We could've had a lovely family reunion."

"Actually I..."Pamela started.

"Oh, darling."Ferelith chuckled with a smirk. "I'm just teasing, I didn't have time for any of that."

"Right, so what brings you here from the worst part of the underworld?"Pamela asked with a tight smile.

"Yes, I need to ask you an important question."Ferelith said simply. "Where is your male heir?"

"I had a choice."Pamela replied. "It's a bit complicated."

"By the fact that Drakath no longer visits your chambers?"Ferelith questioned. "Is that your decision or his?"

"It's ours."Pamela responded.

"Or has one of his whores come between you two?"Ferelith asked.

"No, mother, please don't find a fault."Pamela responded with a frown. "Things have merely changed between us."

"Pamela, you are here to do a job."Ferelith said as she sat down next to Pamela. "I know how it can be. A continual chore one comes to dread."

Ferelith gives a black purple bottle to Pamela causing her to cough at the strong smell.

"This will help."Ferelith stated.

"What on Mewni is this?"Pamela coughed.

"A herbal concoction, mixed by my physician."Ferelith answered with a smug smile. "It's a small miracle, really. Only use a pinch in your wine before and you will be at ease. In an seductive mood."

Pamela blushed and stared at Ferelith with a startled look.

"Darling, you are never going to get pregnant again if you don't try."Ferelith commented with a smirk. "And you really need to, quickly."

"I don't need to act like a succubus demon like you to interest my husband in bed."Pamela reminded in disgust.

"Oh my sweet, dumb, dumb little Pamela, you're being the worst fool of all: an easy going fool."Ferelith stated tapping Pamela's head. "You're actually letting your own husband chase after other women and keep your mouth shut about it."

"Look I'm just simply letting him have his way."Pamela responded with a glare. "Once he has a way with a woman, he grows bored and moves on. Isn't that what all kings do?"

"You poor thing."Ferelith mocked with a frown. "All this because you can't provide him with a male heir."

"I rather be with my children than bed him every single day."Pamela scowled with a glare. "Beside you see more as a bargaining chip that is a key to glory than a daughter."

"Very well I leave you be, you have your own daughters and your husband's bastard son to take care."Ferelith said simply and smiled as she stood up. "I've got to run. Let me know when my grandson arrive. You will, won't you, dear?"

Pamela frowned. "Yes, mother."

"Cheerio, darling."Ferelith remarked.

A red purple flame went around Ferelith and she disappeared from Pamela's sight.

Pamela groaned as she dropped herself on the sofa.

"What am I going to do?"Pamela asked sadly.

Then there was a knock on the door, revealing Shirley.

"Hey."Shirley greeted. "Everything alright?"

"Yeah."Pamela responded as she sat up properly on the sofa. "Just had an unwanted conversation with my mum."

"How about a new hairstyle for a change of pace?"Shirley suggested.

"That would work."Pamela commented.

Pamela sat on a chair and untied hair loose.

Shirley picked up a brush to do her best friend's hair.

"How about the appealingly mature and stylish bob cut? Or the slightly bold sauvage style?"Shirley asked. "Maybe a nice and modest look with long, straight hair? A girl's mood can change a great deal, just by changing her hairstyle."

"I'm glad I have you around, Shirley."Pamela admitted with a smile. "Your like a big sister that I always wanted to have."

"Thanks."Shirley replied with a small smile. "And I am glad to have you too."

Back in Mewni...

It was now night time.

Louis, Andromeda and Harriet walked into the tapestry room.

Andromeda held a pack of cards while Harriet held a small lantern to help them see in the dark.

The three siblings sat down in the room.

Harriet placed the lantern down and Andromeda placed the cards in front of them.

"Glossaryck said Celena had many ways to read the cards, but his favourite was the Tarot."Andromeda explained.

"So if we read them, Celena will know that she is still remembered and doesn't have to haunt the castle to sing."Louis said.

"Let me read the first card."Harriet suggested and picked the card that had a image of Jushtin as king. "The king; kindness, compassion and forgiveness. Healing and giving credit when credit is due."

"Dad is like that most of the time."Andromeda commented.

"When he is in a good mood."Harriet reminded.

"My turn."Louis replied and picked a card. "The Shooting Star. A connection with nature. Reflection and quite contemplation. Freedom to be your truest self."

Andromeda picked up the next card.

"The hanging cat."Andromeda read. "Decisions that carry weight. Letting go of the past or things that are out of control."

Harriet took the card that had a image of a lizard with a hat.

"Septarians."Harriet said in disgust. "Expression of emotions even anger. Passion, the unknown, all that it takes?"

Louis picked a card that had a image of Skywynne sitting on a throne.

"The queen."Louis answered. "Personal power, confidence and skill. Leadership, decision making."

Andromeda picked a card that had image of the grim reaper.

"Death."Andromeda stated with a startled look. "An ending, but also a beginning. Gaining forward with nothing to fear. Letting go of the old."

Suddenly the candle on the lantern turned off causing the tapestry room to get dark.

Then Harriet clapped her hands causing a purple red flame to appear in her hands.

"Do you guys think it worked?"Harriet asked.

Then a soft singing voice echoed throughout the room.

"I guess it didn't."Louis responded.

Andromeda frowned. "Let's go tell Glossaryck."

Louis, Andromeda and Harriet went up to the Book of Spells.

Andromeda opened the book, revealing Glossaryck sleeping in Comet's chapter.

"Glossaryck!"Harriet shouted angrily.

Glossaryck snorted and opened his eyes.

"Do you children even know what time it is?"Glossaryck yawned.

"Glossaryck, we did what you told us to do and it didn't work."Harriet stated bitterly. "Celena's ghost is still bothering us."

"Did you tree actually went to the cemetery and did the ritual to summon her?"Glossaryck asked.

"Well..."Harriet started.

"Ritual?"Andromeda said in confusion.

"You never said anything about going to the cemetery, Harryo."Louis stated with a frown.

"I'm scared of going to the graveyard during the night."Harriet admitted with a sheepish smile.

"Ugh!"Louis and Andromeda groaned in annoyance.

Afterwards...

Louis, Andromeda and Harriet went out of the castle, wearing capes as they headed to the cemetery.

When the three children arrived to the graveyard of the queens, they stopped in front of the grave of Celena Butterfly.

"Okay, let's take out Celena's items so we can summon her."Louis said and took out a bunch of papers from his backpack. "I got her poems."

"I have the items she used for her charm spells."Andromeda commented.

"And I got a red solanaceae pie."Harriet added and held out a pie.

Louis and Andromeda started at Harriet with disapproved looks.

"What?"Harriet chuckled. "This is one of the things she liked to eat."

Louis, Andromeda and Harriet put the items in the summoning circle that had small candles around it.

"Okay Harryo, use your Lucitor magic."Andromeda instructed.

"Yes, your majesty."Harriet said sarcastically.

Harriet began to say something in demon tongue causing the summoning circle to glow and the candles to go off.

Then a spirit of a woman came out of the summoning circle.

The ghost was a young woman with fair cream skin, very long pink hair, purple eyes and purple crescent moon-shaped marks on her cheeks. She wore a long and starry purple cloak, a gold tiara with a red diamond in the center and a string of pearls and strings of flowers and bells in her hair.

It was Celena Butterfly.

"I believe you three are the ones that summoned me?"Celena asked.

"Yes, Queen Celena."Louis, Andromeda and Harriet responded while bowing.

"There is no need to bow or say queen, just call me Celena."Celena replied softly.

"So Auntie Celena, what is your point for haunting the castle at night all the sudden?"Andromeda asked.

"I have been wanting to tell a secret that I hidden for myself and haven't had a chance to tell anyone."Celena answered. "Not even my own daughter."

"So your singing at night because you wanted to tell your biggest secret?"Louis questioned.

"That is correct, young man."Celena replied firmly.

"Then tell us."Harriet suggested.

"I don't know..."Celena started.

"Come on, you can trust us."Andromeda assured. "We're part of your family."

"Do-Do I really need to do this?"Celena whispered nervously and then sighed. "Okay then, just…p-please don't judge me too much, okay? Oh, hmm…I wish I could write it…"

"It's best if you just tell us than writing it down."Harriet admitted.

"Then I'll tell you a tale."Celena responded. "It doesn't have a happy beginning, but I hope you all learn something from it."

Louis, Andromeda and Harriet sat down as Celena began to tell them her tale.

"My mother was someone I utterly adored, with all my heart, even if I…hmm, didn't know how to express it like most other people did but that was fine for us, we weren't really sociable or chatty."Celena said. "Most of the evenings, we read our books or entertain ourselves by doing her riddles that were much more worth than forcing ourselves to chat of matters like politics or gossip. I particularly hated public speaking and I've had to hear from it a lot especially when it was directed towards my mother."

Louis, Andromeda and Harriet looked at each other.

The three siblings knew already that Celena was never fond of speaking like Moon told them.

"My mother, Rhina the Riddled, was actually a monster lover and a husband murderer."Celena admitted as she played with one of her hair streaks. "I'm certain you three know of my father, right? Lord John Roachley. His name made me feel like a thorn was stuck in my head when I think about him. This information was when I was still an infant and mother didn't like to share it with me. Besides what I already came to expect and learn that an abusive, inattentive husband and the fact that my mother forced herself to even fall in love with him though John called her pathetic, ignoring her needs and leaving her even more alone than she already was."

Louis, Andromeda and Harriet's eyes widen hearing Celena's statement.

"Mother says the spell that broke his heart was a mistake, but I simply see as justice, for a wicked demon."Celena responded. "No offence to the Lucitors that is, I suppose like many things, my mother was just unfortunate. She didn't have many friends either and one of them known as Lady Gyora moved to live in the dimension of the creepy looking cats. As for me, I…was my mother's only company in the big lonely castle."

Celena took a slow deep breath before continuing her tale.

"I'm aware my mother wasn't one of the best queens that Mewni had and not the worst either."Celena commented. "But my mother had a quirky behaviour, her obsession with riddles and that made plenty of people not go near her. With the murder of my father and the constant shaming from the Lucitors, Rhina dealt with a lot of backdoor intrigue and I had to listen to a lot of it. I dislike crowds, I really do, it isn't only because of that. As a matter of fact, I just absolute loathed what they would talk behind our backs. Most mewmans felt sorry for me, for being the daughter of a murderer or a child trapped in a failed marriage, but I had to deal with it, like my mother did. We were royals, we were always to be above such noise coming from gossipers and haters, looking for mischief and fan the flames of the rumour mill for amusement or wicked self-interest."

Louis, Andromeda and Harriet stared at Celena in sadness.

"One day, they published an article about my father."Celena stated coldly. "How he was a kind, loving demon, ready to be made a father, before cut short by his so called wife and threatened by the Lucitors might and influence. Some mewmans had my mother's name dragged through the dirt, I had to see her cry and deal with the glares from ungrateful people, willing to make her more miserable. Well, that's my first secret, children. I become very annoyed if someone hurts my family."

"So what did you do?"Louis asked.

"I sought them out. Each and every member of that rude worthless piece of journalism; names and families."Celena admitted. "No one would blink at the shy quiet kid of Queen Rhina, wouldn't be too suspicious of her intents. Really, it's surprising how much the way a princess has when all she has to do is look pretty, friendly and smile a lot."

Andromeda smirked. "That is so true."

Harriet nodded in agreement.

"So in the middle of the night, I've got their ownership papers…their funds, stocks, treaties on land, ownership of that damned tabloid and burned them myself."Celena complemented. "I would have thrown in a fire, but I wanted the pleasure to burn their trace on my kingdom myself. Then I've sneaked out, carrying torches since the houses were empty as they wouldn't have been afraid to refuse an invitation from royalty and not long after the houses were burned into dust. Next day, the gossipers were ruined. All their belongings were gone, all their papers, any trace of any presence they had on Mewni completely and utterly erased. So what has become of them? They were no poor simple peasants unable to receive even a penny. My mother was now completely happy and we became more close ever since."

Louis, Andromeda and Harriet clapped softly at Celena in approval.

"Wow that was amazing."Andromeda commented.

"So how do you feel now, Celena?"Louis asked.

"Much better."Celena remarked. "I actually feel like I have nothing left to hide, thanks to all of you."

"So your actually half demon?"Harriet said with a smile. "No way, I am too."

"It's nice to know I'm not the only half demon in the family."Celena chuckled lightly.

Celena, Louis, Andromeda and Harriet notice the sun was beginning to rise for a new day.

"I have to go."Celena stated with a sad smile. "Thank you again, Louis, Andromeda and Harriet for listening to me, farewell."

Then the spirit of Celena faded away as the morning sun greeted the children.

A While Later...

Harriet was talking with Mercedes in the garden.

"So that's about it, great-aunt Mercedes."Harriet remarked. "Celena told us her biggest secret and is now perfectly resting with the other queens."

Mercedes gives a piece of meat to Dabyi, who eats it violently.

"Interesting story, dear."Mercedes stated with a frown. "She didn't happen to mention about having an apprentice to you and your siblings?"

"No, why?"Harriet asked.

"It's not important."Mercedes said simply. "Let's have some tea."

"Oh, tea? Sounds wonderful."Harriet complemented excitedly. "I wanted to have some right about now too and cake with lots of whipped cream..."

Mercedes clicked her fingers causing a grey tea cup with a broken heart design to fly by and pour black tea into the tea cups.

"Made with the leaves of the camellia sinensis plant, black tea is a true tea."Mercedes commented.

"Right, so umm, great-aunt Mercedes, I've been wondering about something..."Harriet said with a nervous smile as she picked up her tea cup. "Well, has magic ever gone haywire or hard to control?"

"Magic for a long time, has come to us butterflies from the earliest ancestors of our family including the first queen of Mewni that was chosen by Glossaryck in a game of eenie meenie mewni moe."Mercedes replied with a hint of disproval. "It is natural for us, like breathing. But despite the cheek marks we have or bloodline that we carry, what is more important what magic you decide to do."

Harriet nodded as she drank her black tea.

"Take Elis the Pure for example she learned to do the energy of creation when she first had our family ring for a couple months."Mercedes said. "This sort of magic gave her the ability to create crystals and plants. But as for me, I learned to do many types of black magic. It can destroy a person or a thing except the carriers of its energy."

Mercedes reveals her the black veins on her arms causing Harriet to pale and sweat a little.

"But it leaves scars that can never heal or go away."Mercedes added and covered her arms before looking at Harriet. "My point, dear, is that there have people with magic that are as lost and scared as you are when it comes to these situations. I would love to tell you more, but I can't."

Mercedes notice Harriet was sweating and rubbing her hands.

"Harryo?"Mercedes questioned. "Are you feeling alright?"

"Uhh, I'm fine!"Harriet chuckled nervously. "Just feeling a little bit hot and-"

Harriet notice the red magic flames on her hands were getting bigger.

"Harriet, calm down."Mercedes instructed. "Your emotions is causing-"

"Look out!"Harriet shouted.

Harriet lifted her hands high up causing the flames to be released, making Mercedes dodge them.

The flames hit a rose bush causing them to burn and crumble into black dust.

"Oh my..."Mercedes said.

Harriet backed away and dropped on her knees.

"I can't control, great-aunt Mercedes."Harriet sobbed. "Please make it stop! I don't want to hurt anyone! I'm so scared of my magic!"

Mercedes walked up to Harriet and bend down before taking out a red bracelet with a black skull gem on it.

"Have this, sweetie, it will help."Mercedes assured.

"Wh-what's that, great-aunt Mercedes?"Harriet cried as she dried her tears.

"It's called a magic regulator, dear."Mercedes responded and put the bracelet on Harriet's wrist. "It's a bit weak, but it will actually help you, if your magic goes out of hand."

"Really, great-aunt Mercedes?"Harriet asked in surprise.

"Yes, but for your sake and mine, don't tell anyone I gave you this not even your sister."Mercedes instructed with a smirk. "It will be our little secret."

Harriet wrapped her arms around Mercedes neck and hugged her.

"Thank you so much, great-aunt Mercedes!"Harriet giggled kindly.

Mercedes smirked and stroked Harriet's hair. "Your welcome."
