AN: Hi all, I was hoping I wouldn't need to address this again but here we are. I never came out and said it but in my mind, Maya didn't lose her virginity in Paris. Did she hook up with someone drunk? Yep. Was she unsure what happened at first? Yep. I got the impression that some people felt like I just threw it in there without thinking but I spend a lot of time on this story and I do think about it. I didn't anticipate how some people would react to it, and I respect everyone's opinions. I'm just letting you know my intentions. I wrote that chapter while I was in high school. It reflected an experience that someone I know had. I'd like to think that I've written growth into my characters throughout this story and I hope we are ready to move past this and grow our experience with them. So no, Maya didn't have sex in Paris. I'm not going to be addressing anything else about it in the story because I feel like I've closed that chapter. I'm sorry for all the trouble. Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy what's to come!

SS 94

Maya couldn't sleep. She was tossing and turning, unable to get comfortable. It was strange really. She was spending the night at home rather than at her dorm because it was closer to the train station, and she usually slept better in her own bed rather than in her lumpy dorm single.

Riley's appointment was at 11:30 the next morning, and Maya was going to get up early to take the train in to meet her. She'd spoken to Riley several times on the phone since she'd last been out there. Riley hadn't mentioned Lucus at all, and Maya decided it was better not to bring up that Lucus had called her. She wasn't sure if Lucus had talked to Riley, but if Riley wanted to tell her about it, she would.

Maya thought that it might be her nerves that were keeping her from sleep. Despite the fact that it wasn't her uterus in question, Maya couldn't help from being freaked out. She and Riley shared everything. Topanga used to joke that if you cut Riley, Maya would bleed. She could feel the stress that her best friend was under, she knew that she was scared out of her mind, and she knew that she was confused more than anything else.

Maya sighed and stared up at the ceiling. Riley hadn't let on about what she was thinking about her appointment tomorrow. Maya had no idea if Riley wanted to keep the baby, put the baby up for adoption, or if she wanted to terminate. Maya hadn't wanted to press the subject over the phone. Riley had told her that she wanted to figure it out on her own, and Maya was trying to respect that. Still, it was hard. She wanted to help. She knew that she was doing the best she could for her friend, but it didn't feel like enough.

Maya didn't know exactly when, but at some point, she had nodded off. A loud ringing brought her back from sleep. She was in a daze when she reached for her phone, sliding her finger across the screen to answer the call, not bothering to look who it was.

"Hello?"

"Maya?"

She sat bolt up in bed, the sound of Riley's voice waking her up completely.

"Riles?"

"Something is wrong" Riley muttered, her voice weak on the other end of the phone.

"It hurts. I'm so dizzy. I don't think I can get up"

Maya felt a rush of adrenaline surge through her. She was on her feet in a flash.

"Where are you?"

" I'm in my dorm. Maya I- I think I'm bleeding. I can't" she went quiet.

"Riley?" More silence met her for the other end of the phone.

"Fuck," Maya muttered, her heart pounded and her mind raced as she tried to figure out what to do. Riley needed an ambulance. Maya didn't know the address of Riley's dorm or even the room number off the top of her head. She couldn't think straight. What she did have was Bonnie's number.

"What the fuck?" Bonnie muttered when she answered the phone.

" Do you know what time it is?"

Maya spoke quickly.

" Bonnie. I need you to listen to me. Get your RA. Riley needs an ambulance."

"What?" Bonnie asked, sounded a little more awake this time.

"Get them to call 911, and Bonnie, tell them she's pregnant".

…..

Maya didn't even have shoes on but she was standing outside the Matthews apartment, banging her fist against the door. It had been 2 minutes since she'd gotten off the phone with Bonnie.

She had thrown the door to Shawn's room open and turned on the light,

"What's happening?" Shawn had asked in confusion, rubbing his eyes with a closed fist.

" Get up. We have to go."

"What?" Shawn asked in utter confusion.

"I'll tell you in a minute. Get dressed. I'm going to wake up everyone else." Thankfully Shawn hadn't asked any more questions, just put his feet on the floor and gotten up.

It was Cory that came to the door, looking half asleep and a mixture of angry and confused. His expression changed to concern when he saw that it was Maya at the door.

"Maya honey, what's wrong?"

Maya's voice was shaking.

"It's Riley. We need to go"

"What's going on?" Topanga had come up behind Cory, looking equally as concerned.

"I'm so sorry," Maya said before she burst into tears.

….

Topanga had driven like a madwoman for New York to Philadelphia, shaving almost 25 minutes off the hour and a half drive between the two cities. The atmosphere in the car had been tense. Cory had been sitting in the front seat, his head in his hands. Maya sat in the back with Shawn to one side, and Auggie asleep on the other. Maya leaned her head against Shawn's shoulder, letting silent tears fall down her cheeks. Maya hadn't spoken since she explained what was happening to the adults.

Cory had called Amy and Alan and they had gone ahead to the hospital. They had promised to call with updates, but so far they knew nothing. Riley was in surgery, that was as much as they knew.

The car pulled up to the hospital just as the sun was beginning to rise. Their small group moved quickly through the parking lot and into the hospital, headed to the fourth floor where they knew Amy and Alan were waiting for news.

Topanga hadn't cried at all on the whole drive, but as soon as she saw Amy, she fell to pieces. It was almost as if it was the presence of another mother that had made her finally come apart.

Guilt was gnawing on Maya's edges, she couldn't shake the feeling that if she had made Riley tell her mother what was going on, none of this would have happened. Topanga would have insisted on Riley having a full check-up rather than just a blood test. What if this was something preventable. What if Riley wasn't going to be ok because of this?

Maya had called Josh when they were getting ready to leave the city, and he was going to take the express train down there to meet them. It was about an hour before Josh was meant to arrive that the Doctor finally appeared in the waiting room. They all stood up at the sight of the women in scrubs and crowded around her.

"You're Riley Matthews family?" The doctor asked. They all nodded.

"What's happening?" Topanga asked, desperation in her voice.

"Your daughter experienced an ectopic pregnancy, meaning that the pregnancy was occurring outside the uterus, in the fallopian tube. Because this wasn't detected, the tube burst. We've repaired the damage, but we had to remove her right fallopian tube."

"Is she alright?"

"She's stable. I'm confident she'll make a full recovery." The whole group seemed to let out a collective breath.

" Can we see her?" Cory asked.

" She's sleeping in post-surgery right now. You'll be able to see her in a few hours". Shawn, who seemed to have it the most together of the group shook the doctor's hand

" Thank you"

Maya shrunk back into her chair, her head falling into her hands. She was so relieved but she was still so scared. She felt like she had come so close to losing her best friend. The fear in Riley's voice when she called her had been struck a chord in her that Maya hadn't felt since her mother's cancer diagnosis. It was the purest form of fear.!

Her guilt was so immense. There was no way that Maya could have known that this was going to happen, but she felt like it was her fault that her family was going through this.

The looks on Cory and Topanagas faces when Maya choked out what was happening has been enough to break her heart. She hated doing that to the people who had helped to raise her.

Eventually their little group disbursed. The doctor had informed them that they wouldn't be allowed to see Riley until later that afternoon. Amy, always the sensible one, strong armed everyone into going back to the Matthew family home to get some rest. Amy and Alan had been there most of the night and the others had driven in from the city in the middle of the night.

They were all silent on their drive from the hospital back to the Matthews. No one knew what to say or how to break the ice. Maya knew that was a lot to process for everyone. She was the only one prior to that night to know that Riley had been pregnant. She was sure that threw everyone for a loop.

They group shuffled into the house like a group of sleep walkers everyone breaking off towards separate rooms.

Maya walked up the stairs, her feet feeling like her shoes were full of lead. She was reaching for the handle of Morgan's old bedroom, the room she usually slept in, when she reconsidered. She turned and opened the door to Josh's room.

She'd only been in there a handful of times, and never on her own, and it felt a little bit like stepping back in time to when Josh was a teenager. The room hadn't changed since Josh had moved out nearly 6 years earlier. It still smelled a little like him in the room and Maya pulled back the covers on the bed and crawled in. Maya closed her eyes and hoped that sleep would greet her but she was met instead with a wave of despair over everything that had happened and everything she had almost lost. The pillow under her head grew damp with the tears she couldn't stop from coming. She knew this was partly due to her exhaustion but sleep still wouldn't come to her.

Maya has her back to the door when Josh finally arrived at the house. She turned her head when she heard the bedroom door crack open.

" hey" Josh whispered softly, pulling back the covers and climbing in next to her. Maya twisted in bed so her head was resting against Josh's chest. He wrapped his arms around her and held her tight to him.

Maya's tears couldn't stop coming, but with Josh's arms around her, she finally fell asleep.
