A/N: I hope everyone has had a great holiday season! Real life got in the way of my writing again. Sorry. I've just been crazy busy lately and haven't had any time to sit down and write in a quiet house until today, I will try to get back onto a regular publishing schedule after the New Year.
Thank you so much to everyone who reads, reviews, private messages, follows, and favorites this story of mine. I'm so glad that people are continuing to read this story of one of my favorite fictional characters ever.
Enjoy?
Cat's New Boyfriend
Part One
"So why did Cat tell us to meet her by my locker again?" Beck asks me as we leave our global studies classroom.
"She didn't say. She just said that she has a surprise for us," I answer, chucking my empty Jet Brew cup into the trash can by the vending machines. "The fuck if I have any clue what that could mean. It's Cat, it could be anything really. I just hope whatever she wants to show us doesn't have anything to do with her brother. I'm not in the mood to deal with Frankie drama today."
"Oh, look, there's Tori," Beck points out. "I wonder who that is that she's talking to?"
"I don't think I have ever seen him before," I tell Beck, after narrowing my eyes to get a better look at the guy standing by Vega.
"Let's go talk to her," Beck says and I groan and follow him.
"And my sister's tongue got all big and swollen and here I am," we hear Vega say to the mystery guy. There's an awkward silence and I just can't help myself.
"So who's that?" I ask her in my nicest tone, pointing to the guy. I'm not sure who he is but the fact he is making Vega all uncomfortable is definitely sparking my interest in him. Both of their body language is just screaming unease with their situation. Now I just need to figure out why.
"Uh, this is Danny."
"Why are you talking to Tori?" I ask him, curious to find out if my initial thought as to how this random guy knows her is correct.
"He goes to my old school," she explains.
"Sherwood," he interrupts.
"He was my old boyfriend," Vega admits.
"Girlfriend," he says, confirming what I already was starting to suspect. I knew it! What can I say- I'm good at reading people. I know that most people think I'm completely oblivious to other people, and especially how they might be feeling certain situations. I'm not- I usual just don't care. This however, is one such situation that I am definitely going to try and exploit to make it as awkward as possible for Vega.
"So why'd you dump her?" I ask him.
"Jade…" Beck warns me, but I ignore him. This is such a golden opportunity, how could not pry into a past breakup of Vega's?
"Can I guess?" I ask him, walking past Beck to stand next to Vega and in front of this Danny guy earnestly. "Cause I've got a loooot of guesses."
Danny then stuns me for a moment and admits that Vega actually dumped him.
"Oh," I say, still cheerful. "And how'd you celebrate?"
"Do you ever take a day off?" Vega asks me. I just smile perkily at her. Watching her act all awkward and uncomfortable is absolute gold.
"So, what are you doing here?" Beck asks Danny.
We all listen as he explains how he's now dating a girl that goes here. He fails to mention her name, but I am praying to the gods that it is someone Vega can't stand! That would make this even better. Regardless, I can't wait to see Vega's reaction whenever his new girlfriend show's up.
"Ahhhh!" we all turn toward the stairs where Cat's high pitched squeal is coming from. "Daniel!" she flies down the last few stairs and launches herself into his arms.
"Hey Babe!" he says and he spins her around as they kiss.
I glance at Vega and see her mouth drop open, and I can't help but be in surprised shock. (I can even hear Beck chuckling quietly to himself behind me.)
This is so much better than I ever could have imagined.
"This is the guy I've been telling you about," Cat tells us happily, their arms around each other. "My boyfriend," she giggles, and then begins to introduce all of us.
"Yeah, we- we've met," Vega says.
"Really, you know Daniel?" Cat asks.
"Ooohh, she knows Daniel," I tell Cat with a huge smile.
"So..." Vega says.
"So…" Daniel repeats, looking like he'd rather be any place than right here.
"Sooo.." I say happily, loving all the tension between Vega and Daniel.
"How come everyone's being all weird?" Cat asks, looking around at all of us.
"I'll tell her!" I raise my hand slightly.
"No you won't," Beck says, nudging his foot with mine as a silent warning.
Vega begins to explain that she used to go to school with her new boyfriend.
"Oh!" Cat says happily, "so you guys were friends!"
"Yeah," I say moving myself so I am standing between Cat and Tori. "They were gooood friends," I tell her, hoping that she understands my meaning.
Cat looks from me, to Vega, and back to Daniel. "I'm confused."
"Danny and I used to date," Vega tells her. Cat gasps audibly. I just turn my head back and forth between them like I'm watching a tennis match.
"Hey, why don't we walk over to some other location," Beck says, coming up behind me and clapping his hand onto my shoulder. I ignore him. No way am I leaving this train wreck.
"Okay, wait," Cat says. "So you and Tori were like…."
"Girlfriend," Daniel points to Vega.
"Boyfriend," she points back at him.
"So…." Cat says, and shakes her head. Both Daniel and Vega rush to tell her that it's no big deal, not to feel weird, they broke up a year ago.
"It's only been eleven months!" Vega corrects him, and I can't hide a small smirk. As much as Vega is trying to act like she isn't bothered by the fact Cat is dating her ex, I can't tell that she is really fucking bothered by it.
"Well, okay then! It's all happy," Cat giggles, after Daniel and Vega assure her that they are both 'totally cool' with this awkward situation.
I roll my eyes at how stupid everyone is being. Of fucking course things are not okay. How can they be? "I'm bored now," I tell them and walk to Beck's locker. It's obviously the end of any drama for the moment. But I know Vega. There's no way in hell she isn't going to make this all weird and not get jealous. That girl loves being the center of attention- and at least right now Daniel seems to only have eyes for Cat.
"I apologize for….her," I hear Beck say before he leaves them and walks over to me.
"You didn't need to apologize for me," I tell him, poking him in the chest and backing him into the lockers.
"Yes, I really did."
"You never let me have any fun," I pout out my bottom lip, and look into his eyes.
"How about we do something else for fun instead?" he asks, wrapping his arms around my waist and pulling me closer to him, so our lips are less than a centimeter apart.
"What have you got in mind?" I ask him coyly.
"This," he says and pulls me into a deep kiss. I move one hand to stroke his face and I run the other hand through his hair.
I can vaguely hear Vega's voice in the background and I start to pull away, and Beck surprises me by tightening his arms around me and deepening our kiss further. I'm not sure what got into him. Beck's not usually too fond of overtly public displays of affection- not that I am complaining!
I can't help but let out a small moan as his lips move down my neck and he lightly bites down on the spot where my neck meets my shoulder. It's not really my fault. Beck knows that that spot drives me wild.
"Ahem!" we hear a sharp voice behind us, and we quickly let go of each other and spring apart.
"This is a school, not a nightclub!" our grumpy history teacher growls at us. "I catch you like that again Miss West, and it's detention with me for a week!" he threatens, pointing his finger in my face.
"Totally worth it," Beck mutters into my ear under his breath. I look at my history teacher, but he obviously didn't hear what my boyfriend said.
"What about Beck?" I ask, completely dumbfounded as to why he's singling me out. It's not like Beck wasn't a willing participant in our little make out session just now. If anything- he was more to blame than me!
"No more of that- from either of you!" he sputters, ignoring my question and stomping off.
"What the hell?" I ask, spinning to Beck. "How come he only threatened me with detention? " I asked him.
"I dunno," Beck shrugged his shoulders. "Maybe it's because you get one from him like every other week. It's just like second nature for him to threaten you with it now."
"Shut up," I smack his arm, before lacing my fingers with his. "It's not MY fault the man is so fucking high strung. It's not like you were feeling me up or anything."
"So what do you think of Daniel?" Beck asks me as we start walking to our next class.
"I've been hearing about this dude for over a month. He can handle hour long calls with Cat, he's taken her to some pretty cool places. He even went to the ER with her the last time they had to take Frankie there. The guy must have the patience of a saint."
"Yeah, no doubt," Beck shakes his head in amazement.
"But-"
"But what?" he asks me.
"I don't know. I'll reserve my judgement for later. After seeing how he reacted to Vega-"
"Oh come on, Jade. Anyone would have been weirded out by that situation," Beck says.
"I guess so," I say, not convinced.
"Can you imagine if we broke up and ended up running into each other, and found out we were dating the other's friend?" he asks me.
"Um, first of all- I know all your friends. So please know if I ever end up dating a friend of yours, I'm doing it knowing full well that they are your friends and that it would make you jealous on some level. Second of all, you ever date any of my friends I'll fucking kill you," I tell him with a smile. "Right after I kill them."
"That's my sweet girl," Beck laughs, kissing the top of my head.
"Seriously though, honestly I'm a little worried," I admit. "I wasn't at first, but the more I think about it, the more I really don't like how Vega had to correct Daniel and point out that they've only been broken up eleven months. Especially because she was the one who said it had been a year first."
"Like you wouldn't know how long it was, probably even down to the day," Beck says, lightly jabbing me into the side.
"Maybe," I say thoughtfully. "But it was almost like she was testing him or something," I tell him as we turn into our english classroom.
"Jade- you're reading too much into it," Beck tells me. "I think you just are wanting drama where there isn't any," he squeezes my hand before he drops it.
"You're probably right," I tell him, and we sit down in our assigned seats.
Beck's wrong though. I actually don't want there to be drama. At least not on Cat's end. But if there's one thing I've learned in these last few months, it's that when it comes to Vega, there is ALWAYS drama involved.
A/N: I hope everyone enjoyed the first installment of Cat's New Boyfriend. Please review and let me know what you think!
