I do not own Harry Potter.
"Rose!" yelled James running into the suite.
….
"Rosie!" he repeated, halfway to the stairs.
"What's wrong?" she yelled back, running out of her room.
James finished climbing the stairs, two at a time.
"Jamie?" said Kristine, wobbling into the hallway.
"What happened?" asked Rose, looking behind him towards the stairs. "Where's Lily?"
James shook his head, unable to get anything out.
"James! You're scaring me! Where's Lily?"
"Sorry… She's still at the Ministry. She just… she needs you Rose. Please." Begged James.
"What happened?" she asked again.
"She talked. This morning she sort of had some trouble and she took a break and then started again. Merlin, Rose, it was awful. The things…"
"I know," growled Rose.
"Right. She talked about the day with the trainer… the one that almost killed her. She seemed okay. I mean not really, but… you know? I don't know. It was awful. But … when she was done, she just, I think she just went into shock. Jason had to carry her out of the courtroom, and she hasn't spoken since, she's just zoned out. She took a calming draught without question, which tells you she really isn't herself. But it hasn't done anything… I mean I don't even think she's blinking. She just shut down. Please Rosie, please, she needs you," finished James, wiping tears off his face.
Rose nodded and turned around, "Let me get changed."
James followed her and pulled Kristine into his arms as he walked by her.
"Why didn't you just bring her home?" asked Rose from her closet.
"We'd have to carry her out, which would draw attention, which would just make things worse."
"I don't understand. She's been looking forward to today for months," said Rose to herself.
"What do you mean?" asked James.
"Nothing. Never mind," said Rose, changing without a care that James and Kristine were in her room.
"Christ Rose," said James, quickly turning away.
Rose rolled her eyes and pulled her jeans up, zipping them. Then she threw her top across the room and pulled a nice sweater on before moving back to her closet to grab shoes. Flats would have to do; she was in a rush. She took five seconds to gather her hair in a loose pile and secured it with a clip in the back of her head. "Okay, let's go."
"One of the Unspeakables is downstairs. He's going to escort you back. I don't want to leave Kristine alone."
Rose paused, looking back at James in a bit of a panic before she swallowed and nodded.
"James, I'll be fine, go with Rose," insisted Kristine.
"No, stay, I'll be fine," said Rose, half running down the stairs. "What's his name?"
James jogged to keep up, "Who?"
"The Unspeakable," she huffed.
"Oh, ah, Matt, I think," said James, not entirely sure.
Kristine snapped, "James, you're asking your cousin, who has been kidnapped before, to go alone with a strange man she's never met, and you don't even know his name!"
"Shit," said James, "I'm sorry Rose, I wasn't… I didn't even think. I'll go with you."
Rose just shooed him with her hand in response, "It's fine. I better go."
"Hold on, I'm coming," he said coming down the stairs.
She struggled, wanting James to come with her, but also knowing that James should stay with Kristine and Sera… "No, James. Really, stay and keep an eye on Sera for me. She should be waking up soon and it's too much to leave Kristine alone with her. She's always so cranky when she wakes up."
He was clearly torn, looking back and forth between Rose and Kristine.
"Rose, I'll be fine," said Kristine.
Rose shook her head and said, "No, I'll be fine. You two stay and take care of my baby. I'll see you soon."
"Are you sure?" asked James, clearly not convinced.
She smiled and nodded.
"Jake!" yelled Kristine.
They both looked at her in surprise and she elaborated, "Take Jake with you!"
Rose immediately looked relieved and nodded, "Good idea. I'll grab him on our way out."
…..
Rose caused quite a stir when she got to the Ministry. The reporters were shouting so many questions at her that she couldn't even decipher what they were asking. It was probably just as well, because she had a feeling, they wouldn't be anything she wanted to answer. She was grateful to have Jake with her, his presence always made her feel safer. Not as safe as Harry did, but safe enough. The Unspeakable was pretty useless, basically just standing completely silent behind her the whole time. By the time she got to the courtroom, her magic was sparking, she could feel it just under skin, waiting to let loose. Merlin help anyone that made the mistake of touching her today. It was so different than Lily's magic which exploded outward, but Rose's magic just simmered under the surface, waiting to strike. Finally, the Unspeakable motioned to a closed door and Rose looked at it warily. Getting the message, Jake opened the door for her and looked inside before moving aside to let Rose through.
Everyone started to approach her and talk at the same time, but she shook her head, held up her hands and ordered, "Leave me alone with Lily."
When they all looked at her in surprise, she lost her patience and snapped, "Now. I mean it. LEAVE!"
Getting the hint, they all slowly filed out of the room but Harry, Jason, Scorpius, and Raine paused near the doorway to see if she really wanted them to leave too.
She sighed and pulled the clip out of her hair and said, "Shut the door." When they did, she ran her hands through her hair and said, "I don't know if she'll talk with any of you here, but I'll try. If it doesn't work, then you'll all need to leave too."
They all nodded.
She slowly approached Lily and kneeled in front of her, reaching for both of Lily's hands. Lily jumped and looked down at Rose but said nothing. Rose could tell she was far, far away.
"Lily? Are you alright?"
….
"Lily, can you hear me?"
….
"I'm here, Lily. I'm not going to let anything happen to you. I promise."
….
Rose turned and asked, "How long has she been like this?"
….
"Almost 2 hours," answered Jason.
"What happened? James just said she talked about … her worst day."
"She seemed fine. She was actually angry, which I thought would be good for her, so I let them keep going."
"Angry is good. I don't understand. She's been looking forward to this day, for this to be over for so long."
"If they just asked her about the Boss, I think she would be fine… but they didn't. Merlin, the things she had to talk about …" said Scorpius, unable to continue.
"It was the day with Louie, Rose," said Raine quietly. "She saved us from him… me, you, Noelle, Esme. He would have crushed us…" she covered her mouth to keep in the sobs.
Rose motioned to Raine to come closer and they hugged in front of Lily. After several minutes of the girls whispering to each other, Rose looked at Lily, then at Harry and made up her mind. She stood and pulled Raine up with her. She brushed off her pants, put her hair back up and said, "Okay. I think you should take Lily home. She's too traumatized right now."
Everyone nodded.
"In the meantime, I'm going to take the stand. Give my testimony."
"Rose, you don't have to do that," said Harry.
Rose looked down at Lily again and said, "Yes, I do. This is too much for her. It wasn't fair of me to let her carry all of this on her own. Lily deserves justice more than any of us and I'm going to make sure she gets it. I'm done hiding. It's my turn to make the Boss pay for what he's done."
Harry sighed and asked, "Are you sure?"
"Yes. Now go. I'd recommend finding another way out because the reporters are crazy."
Harry looked between Lily and Rose, "I don't want to leave you…"
Rose smiled and said, "Take care of Lily and Sera."
Harry still looked torn, so Jason said, "I'll be here. I'll keep an eye on her for you."
"Once we get Lily home, you can come back," said Scorpius. "I'll just sit and keep her company, plus James will be home as well."
Rose perked up at that, she didn't really want Harry to leave her either.
Harry noticed and said, "Yeah, okay. I think that will work. Rose, will you wait until I get back to start?"
She smiled and said, "Sure."
Then she knelt in front of Lily again and said, "Lily, your Dad and Scorpius are going to take you home now. I want you to get some rest. Scorpius, James, Kristine and Sera will stay at the house with you and Harry's going to come back and stay with me while I testify. I won't be long, I promise."
….
Still not getting any response from Lily, she leaned forward and placed a kiss on Lily's cheek then whispered in her ear, "Rest up, tomorrow we'll make them all pay."
Lily caught her gaze as she stepped back, letting Rose know she heard her.
…
"Alright, there's a set of stairs nearby, no one ever uses them, we can take them one flight up, head to the Auror office and take the floo to Grimmauld Place, then from there we can apparate. This way we'll avoid everyone," said Harry approaching Lily. He held out his hand to her, hoping she would take it.
Rose nodded and held out her hand as well on the other side of Lily.
Lily clenched her jaw several times before reaching out and grabbing both of their hands, using them as support to stand. She squeezed tight and closed her eyes, feeling like she might pass out. She swayed for a moment but finally steadied. Rose looked to Scorpius and motioned with her head for him to come closer.
"Lily, I'm going to let go and Scorpius is going to hold your hand. Your Dad and Scorpius are going to take you home now. Alright?"
Lily nodded once, squeezed Rose's hand and then let go, pausing only a second before transferring her hand to Scorpius'.
"I'm ready when you are, Sweetheart," said Harry.
Lily looked at Rose, staring at her, trying to relay how thankful she was and how important she was to her.
Rose simply nodded and said, "I'll see you at home."
At that Lily started to slowly walk towards the door and met Raine there. She reached out and kissed both of Lily's cheeks and whispered so quietly that only she and Lily could hear what was said. Finally, she left the room with Harry leading the way, going the opposite direction of where everyone was.
"Raine?"
"Yeah?"
"Can you get Isabella and meet me in the loo?"
"Of course," she said and left.
"Jason, I just need a few minutes and then I'll be ready to start. Can you let whoever needs to know that I'll be testifying?"
"Of course. But aren't you going to wait for your Uncle to get back?"
"No. I know I told him I would but I'm hoping to spare him from hearing any of it. With any luck I'll be done by the time he returns."
"Are you sure?"
"Absolutely sure."
"Okay, I'll let everyone know and wait outside the loo for you. When you're ready we'll head in."
"Great, thank you. Could you just point me to where the loo is?" she asked blushing.
He chuckled and said, "Sure, I'll walk you there, it's not far."
"Thanks."
They walked in the direction Lily went and then stopped at the end of the hall, Jason motioned to the door on the right that indicated "Witches".
"Thanks."
"No problem. I'll just let everyone know and be right back."
She nodded and saw as Isabella and Raine approached. She opened the bathroom door and held it open for them. When they got inside and shut the door Rose let out a deep breath.
"You alright?" asked Raine.
Rose shook her head and said, "No. I'm terrified and furious. How is that even possible?"
"That's me every day," said Isabella.
Rose nodded and said, "I need you to help me look better."
Isabella cackled as Raine snorted, "You're a super model Rose."
Rose shook her head and said, "I don't want to look like a victim, I want to look dangerous and strong. I went with that Bastard willingly and that's the Rose I want everyone to see. Not the broken one I am today."
Raine squeezed her hand in support.
"Well, then, let's get started," said Isabella.
15 minutes later Jason's jaw dropped when Rose exited the loo. She was stunning. He could tell that her clothes were still the same ones she arrived in, but just modified a bit. Instead of the loose light pink sweater she originally had on, she now had a fitted sweater in a royal blue. Instead of the casual light blue jeans, she now had a black, fitted pair on. And her flats were replaced with a pair of heels in the same royal blue. Her hair was now down with big curls framing her face and she had some makeup on.
She smiled at him and asked, "How do I look?"
"Beautiful," he said before he could stop himself.
"Thanks."
He nodded and said, "Ready?"
"Definitely not. But let's get this over with."
"Everyone's already in the courtroom, they were already told that Lily is done for the day and you're testifying. So as soon as we enter, I'll bring you straight to the witness stand."
Rose nodded and said, "Lead the way."
As the doors opened, she looked straight ahead, not wanting to look at her family or any of the other families, never mind the defendants. She kept her head held high and pretended like she was on a runway, not giving anyone even a glance. She had a job to do. She made her way to the witness stand and went through the motions of being introduced and swearing anything she said would be the truth before she finally sat down. And only then did she allow herself to look at the Boss. He was clearly uncomfortable, shifting in his seat. He was staring at the stand as if he was trying to see through it, trying to figure something out. She turned away when they began…
"Miss Weasley, as best you can tell us how you ended up with the defendant."
"I set myself up to get taken."
There was a fair amount of chatter that the judge quieted down after her statement.
"And how did you do that?"
"I had been modeling for years in the muggle world, but my parents didn't know. It's something I really enjoy. My Aunt Ginny knew, she was with me the whole time, but I wasn't planning on telling my parents until I was 17. This way they couldn't really do anything to stop me. Anyway, after Lily was taken, we were all desperate to do whatever we could to help. I decided that if we wanted to find Lily the best way to do it was to get taken myself and then figure out a way to get a message out or to help Lily escape. I kept trying to convince Harry, but he didn't want me to help. He didn't want me in harm's way."
"You're referring to your Uncle, Harry Potter?"
"Yes."
"That's understandable that your Uncle didn't want you involved. So, what happened next?"
"I finally decided I would have to do it without his help. Or rather go around him. I had a bunch of my photos sent to the Daily Prophet, along with details of my birthday party, in the hopes that the kidnapper wouldn't be able to pass up the opportunity to take me."
"You sent your own photos to the Daily Prophet?"
"Yes. I wasn't sure which ones they would pick to use but some of them were very private, only taken for my boyfriend..."
The prosecutor held up the prophet and said, "This must have been hard for you to see on the front page of the paper."
"Yeah, it was."
"And your family, how did they react?"
Rose grimaced and said, "Not well. I knew they would be angry, but I didn't think … they were furious."
"Forgive me, Miss Weasley, I understand how popular you are in the Muggle world, but why were you so sure that your cousin's kidnapper would come to your party and try and take you? Isn't that a bit presumptuous?"
Rose smiled and turned to the jury, "I know I must sound horrid. Like some conceited teenager. But they had tried to kidnap me before."
"Can you tell us about that?"
"I only know what my Mum and Harry told me. That a group of wizards had broken into my home in the middle of the night. The noise woke my mother and she called Harry, who was able to get there quickly with the Auror's."
"You weren't home?
"No, my Dad had been adamant that Lily and I stay elsewhere, he was convinced that someone would try and target us while we were home."
"When you're ready, Miss Weasley, take us through the day the photos were released, the day of your party."
"I woke up early and left the house for school before anyone else was up. I wanted to be at school when the Prophet came. I spent some time with Al in the library."
"Albus Potter?"
"Yes. We talked about different things we were researching and then we went to breakfast. When we walked into the great hall, everyone stopped talking and stared at us. I knew why but I had to pretend I didn't. We sat down next to my brother and he showed us the paper. Within probably 10 minutes, Harry was there…"
"Take your time."
She shook herself of the memory, trying to forget his reaction. "He was obviously not happy. He insisted I go home, where he could better protect me. So, we all went home…. I argued with my parents. I argued with Harry. They wanted me to cancel my party, but I refused. I took a nap and then I got ready for the party."
"This party was to celebrate your 17th Birthday?"
"Yes."
"But it wasn't just any party. There were over 500 people scheduled to attend, correct?"
"Yes."
"You're something of a big deal in the muggle world, correct?"
She hesitated then said, "I guess."
He smiled indulgently at her, then picked up a stack of papers, "Did you know, after you were taken, you appeared in the papers in the muggle world more than in the wizarding world?"
Rose shook her head.
He handed the papers to the clerk and they distributed them to the jury to review. "In fact, Scotland Yard was even investigating your disappearance."
"…"
"What I'm getting at is that you were not just another girl. You were a prominent member of both the muggle and wizarding worlds and you used that to your advantage."
"I did."
"When you're ready tell us, what happened at your party?"
"At first everything went as planned. There were over 100 security personnel there. Half of them magical. Harry had everything planned, every entrance, every exit was covered by both magical and muggle security. He did everything he could to keep me safe."
"So, it should have worked?"
"It would have if I wasn't working against him."
"Go on."
"Harry and Justin, my boyfriend at the time, stayed by my side all night. When I finished talking to a woman from a lingerie company, she and Justin started up a conversation… it was something to do with one of his films. Anyway, they were right next to me talking and I remember looking to see my cousin James was talking to Harry and then… he was there…"
"The defendant?"
"Yes, the Boss. I didn't know who he was at first and he kind of freaked me out the way he just seemed to appear. He even apologized for startling me. I asked him his name and then he moved closer and whispered in my ear … he said, your cousin calls me Sir. I remember a chill ran through my body and I was suddenly terrified, afraid of what I had gotten myself into. But then I shook it off and asked if he was referring to Lily. He confirmed he was and then asked if I wanted to see her. I remember looking at Harry and knowing I only had seconds until he was paying attention to me again. I nodded and then we were quickly passing through the crowd. He must have used a notice me not charm or something because everyone let us pass without even a second glance. We were outside before I knew it and then I was pushed in a car and it sped away."
"You went of your own free will?"
"Yes."
"Even when you could have clearly gotten help and escaped?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Because I wanted to find Lily."
He nodded and said, "That's very brave of you."
Rose shrugged.
"When you're ready, tell us what happened next."
"It took a couple hours to get where we were going and then when we got there I was manhandled until we got to the Boss' suite. Healer Tish was there when we arrived, she was taking care of Lily. But the doors were closed to the bedroom so I couldn't see her. I was desperate to see her. She had been gone for 3 months at this point. We have always been close, like sisters only better, is what we always said. I only got a few seconds with Healer Tish, but it was enough to confirm it was in fact Lily. The Boss made her leave and I was left alone with him…"
"Take your time Miss Weasley."
"I asked him if I could see Lily. But he wouldn't let me until after I… he…"
"…"
"He told me to strip. Told me I could see her after he was done with me… I did as he asked. I was going to see Lily no matter what I had to do."
"I know this must be hard for you but did the defendant rape you that first night?"
"Yes."
"More than once?"
"Yes. Four times."
"When you're ready tell us, what happened after he raped you?"
"He showed me to the loo and told me to shower and change. I remember sliding down the door and crying into my hands, trying to be quiet. I remember I had on this really expensive necklace and I just ripped it off my neck and threw it across the bathroom. I was devastated, in pain, sick to my stomach, and terrified. But even then, I was still hopeful because I found Lily."
"Is this the necklace?" he said holding up an evidence bag with her necklace inside, blood still on it.
"Yeah."
"…"
"I washed up as quick as I could, so I could finally see Lily, even though I just wanted to curl up in a ball and cry. And then he was taking me to her, he opened the bedroom doors and I nearly cried, half in relief and half in horror. She was so bruised and broken, but at the same time she was there, finally after all this time, she was in front of me. I ran to her and when she woke up it was amazing. I cried and she cried too. We had been apart for so long, so very long."
Rose stopped talking, trying to keep from crying at the memory. She looked at her family and saw they were all crying. She cleared her throat and reached for the glass of water someone had left for her. She could do this. She could.
Just then the doors opened at the back and she made eye contact with Harry, who was clearly annoyed she had started before he got there. He clenched his jaw, nodded his head at her and then made his way to sit next to Hermione.
Rose looked back to the prosecutor, honestly forgetting where she left off.
He smiled kindly at her and said, "Miss Weasley, walk us through what happened after you were reunited with your cousin Lily?"
She cleared her throat then began again, "Um, well that first night, the Boss, he fell asleep pretty quickly. I mostly just held her while she dozed in out of consciousness. She wasn't well and she wasn't sure I was real, so I had to keep telling her I was there and squeezing her hand to reiterate that I really was there."
"…"
"In the morning the Boss left us, he told me to take care of Lily. Healer Tish came as well, several times a day to check on her. I helped her get cleaned up, made sure she ate and took her medicine. And then the Boss would come back late at night. That continued every day for a while."
"Did the Boss ever threaten you?"
"Yes."
"What kind of threats did he make?"
Rose hesitated, unsure if she wanted anyone to hear.
"Take your time Miss Weasley."
She clenched her jaw, anger taking over. She didn't want to fucking answer this question.
"Do I have to say?"
The Prosecutor was clearly surprised, so he looked to the judge. The judge looked at Rose and smiled kindly, "If you could just give us a general idea of the type of threats he gave, just one example is fine."
Rose sighed and looked to the jury, unable to look at her family when she said this, "In the beginning, he told me that if I didn't behave, didn't do exactly as he asked, he would take my punishment out on my cousin and then kill her."
She closed her eyes at the sounds, her Aunt Ginny wailing, Harry sobbing, the boys swearing and being told to sit back down. She covered her mouth but not in time, her sob escaped anyway.
"I'm so sorry Miss Weasley. Would you like to take a break?"
She shook her head; she would never willingly come back into this courtroom if she left now. She just needed to push through.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah," she cleared her throat again, "Yes, I'm sure." She wiped the tears from her face and squared her shoulders again. She was NOT a victim. Not today.
"So, you've told us you had a bit of a routine during the day at first, taking care of your cousin. What about at night?"
"The boss would come back late at night usually. Sometimes Lily and I would fall asleep, but he always slammed the door when he returned…"
"I'm sorry, but I have to ask, did he rape you again after that first night?"
"Yes. Every night."
"Your cousin Lily talked to us about her diary," he held it up and brought it to her, "She said you also used the diary."
"I did. I used the back," She flipped through to the back and stared at the pages for a minute before she held it up to the jurors and said, "that first week… the Boss… he raped me… 4, 10, 15, 21, 26, 31, 37…37 times."
She tried to pretend she couldn't hear her mother's cries in the background.
"Thank you, Miss Weasley. If you could, tell us when did your routine change?
"Um… I think it was about two weeks in. The Boss, he came back one morning, which was unusual. He never came back to the suite. He had brought someone with him."
"Who did he bring with him?" asked the Prosecutor, clearly surprised.
"Raine," said Rose, smiling sadly at her.
"You're referring to the youngest of the French Minister's daughters, Miss Raine Chatillon?"
"Yes. She had stopped him and asked about Lily… they were especially close… so he brought her to the suite so she could visit with Lily."
"When you're ready, tell us what happened?"
"During the day, we just spent time talking, Lily, Raine and I."
"And then the Boss returned."
"Yes. He was… in rare form."
"…"
"Is there anything you'd like to tell us about that night?"
"No. I'd prefer not to talk about it."
She could tell he was going to try again so she added, "If I could obliviate myself of what happened that night I would. In fact, I'd rather lose my magic, then speak of it. Do you have any other questions for me?"
He cleared his throat and said, "We've heard about the training regimens from the other victims,"
"I'm NOT a victim," she snarled.
At the same time many of the girls voiced their displeasure.
And an invisible force knocked several piles of parchment off the desk.
And the prosecutor suddenly screamed as he landed on his knees.
"Break, we need a break," said Jason, as he passed the judge and rushed to Rose's side.
She didn't realize she was standing and glaring at the Prosecutor until Jason touched her arm, which resulted in him yelping in pain and jumping back from the electrocution like shock. He looked at her surprised. He thought he found all the witches that were displaying wandless, accidental magic. Before he could try again, Harry pushed him out of the way and pulled Rose into his arms.
"We'll take a 30-minute break," said the judge loudly, dispersing everyone.
